Soulless and dysfunctional
The setting is beautiful. What's done with it is something else. Food is bad, many things (e.g., in room) don't work, private beach is noisy, tours and functions run by affiliate (Coming2) are so so at best. I won't be recommending it.
This is my second time to the resort and I believe it was better than the first which I was worried about after recent reviews but I can assure you that I will be going back again. First let me acknowledge the beach, yes it is much different than before, yes it is under repair but I can not fault the resort for that as they do not control nature. Saying that I knew that you do not go to this resort for the beach, you go for peace and quiet, excellent food and above all else..exceptional service. We had a Junior Suite deluxe with a view out to Samana Bay and were even able to see the whales with binoculars, the room was large, well kept and we had no issue with getting our mini bar stocked and lots of water (hint: tipping helps) As for the complaints about the restaurants booking, we arrived on a Saturday and were able to book 6 al a cartes and were even able to change bookings during our stay. The food at all including the Buffet was excellent with Don Pablo exceeding our expectations both times. We are discriminating in our food and again, no complaints with quantity and quality. Yes, people reserve chairs on the beach and at the pool but we still, along with others we met there, had no issue moving between locations during the day and finding spots. Mornings were the beach and afternoons were one of the two pools. Now the service, we have travelled 3 times in the last few months and the service here was exceptional, the staff are all friendly and happy to help and I believe that starts at the top with a thank you to the Assistant GM, Phillipe for taking time to talk with us and checking in each time he saw us during the week. Our butler, Manuel, provided a great experience for us looking after us all week from the ice arriving at our room each day at the right time so we could make drinks while we changed for dinner to the amazing decorations in our room to celebrate an anniversary he went above and beyond all week. If you get him you will be lucky and happy. Erickson the beach bartender, Luis in the buffet along with our new friedn "Roberto" at Rodizio and the song we sang together, thank you. I can mention many more but I did not list all the names. I will next time to be sure. If you are thinking of this resort and you want great food and service at reasonable prices and a long beach is not at the top of your list then this is your place. The few issues we had were handled quickly and well, no vacation is perfect but this one came close. Thank you to all of you and we will see you again soon
Such a beautiful vacation
I’m posting from my room after having been here for nine days. We are in a villa overlooking the sea which is so beautiful. I originally booked a beachfront villa and paid a cheaper price at a “non-refundable” rate. When I found that they were doing work on the beach, I got nervous that there would be work around us and I called and asked to be moved to a deluxe oceanfront suite. They complied and refunded me the difference in money ($1300). I thought that was very generous. They could’ve offered me nothing or a resort credit but they were more concerned about my frame of mind. In any event, the construction would not have affected the beach front villa at all. The villas on the beach that are open are away from the construction. I’m still glad that we moved because it is so peaceful on our terrace, while the beachfront villas have a lot of activity around them. I think people are making way too much of the construction on the beach in the reviews. We were here seven years ago and the natural landscape has changed dramatically as it pertains to the ocean. The “windy” side needs work and is closed. When we were here last, there were always very few people on that side anyway. The “calm” side is open and beautiful. It is rougher on the calm side then I remember it being years ago. On Friday “Valentine’s Day“ they opened another hundred feet of the beach on the calm side. The construction is really a non-factor in my opinion. You can always get chairs at the beach in the shade or sun at any time of day. There are no issues with towels. The pool near the beach also always has open seats and enjoys the most delicious breezes. There is a beautiful pool in the middle of the resort which does seem to fill up early. I am a drinker and the quality of alcohol is good enough for me. I drink gin and tonics and they have Tanqueray and Bombay Sapphire. If you like whiskey, as I do, they have Johnny Walker Black, Jamison’s, and Jack Daniels. They have a huge selection of good rums. We didn’t have any issues with dinner reservations. The one night we couldn’t reserve was the day we arrived. All other nine days we got reservations. We do eat late, so maybe that had something to do with it. The reservation system opens on Friday for the following week through Sunday. Since we arrived on a Saturday, we were able to book the entire next week through Sunday. I can see where if you arrive on a Monday or Tuesday and are only staying a brief time, it might be an issue. It also might be an issue if you like to eat at 7 o’clock or so. We needed to recharge our batteries, and we certainly did at a very reasonable price. We would definitely return.
Beautiful! We'll be going again!!
My husband and I spent last week at this resort and we would definitely recommend it! The staff are extremely hospitable, friendly and welcoming. Food was great, resort and pools are very clean. Entertainment staff are the best 👍😊. The only thing we thought could be improved on is the fact that the main bar closed at 11pm.
Exceeded our expectations!
Simply put, it was a perfect week of rest and relaxation in paradise. We were exceptionally impressed with the hospitality and kindness of all of the resort's staff. Food and drink were on par for an all-inclusive resort. We enjoyed meeting fellow guests from many countries, making the week even more fulfilling. Our villa was comfortable, housekeeping and butler service excellent Security is obviously important to Bahia and we felt safe. The island is a tropical paradise, with a symphony of birds greeting you every morning. I can't imagine complaining about the beach situation. Although obviously more limited than in the past, it was still beautiful. Truly, we will recommend this destination to many others and quite likely return in the future.
