Great for the Pool, Ok for the Beach

Pro's: The resort is great with everything being grown up around it. The rooms are very nice. The pool is pry the best resort pool we have ever been to. The service around the pool and at the beach are great. Cons: We love the beach being from the north. The beach seaweed cleanup is poor, I believe due to the equipment being very old to the point their tractor is 1/2 rusted apart. A lot of the seaweed is just covered up by the sand because the machine wont pick it up. The seaweed that is collected is just taken down the beach and dumped at the waters edge. Along with all the trash that was collected as well. The restaurants are hit and miss. We enjoyed the Mar, la Hacienda, and l'Olovio. The french was not good. My fillet mignon at the french tasted like a roast. There is also no buffet for dinner. Beware of the gift shop. We got a magnet for 90 pesos, which should have been $5, but were charged almost $11 due to their own exchange rate. I tried to upgrade my room for the 2nd half of my stay, to a swim out room for 6 nights. I was told that while it was available, the manager said no. I also talked to a couple who said they were paying about $350 a night for an upgraded golden room, which was $100 less per night than I was paying for a basic room. The worst part was after the storm came though. the main beach had about 10 palapa's blown over. The hotel shut the beach down for 4 days to fix them. I heard form a couple that went just off property to be on a beach that the hotel only had 3 employees working to fix the entire beach, and they spent most of the days sitting on chairs not working. I also attempted to walk on the beach 3 days after to storm and was yelled at for daring to walk on the public beach. Also after the storm, when we were told we would be advised on when it would be safe to leave the room, I finally found out it was safe when I walked to the pool at 3pm and found people in the pool with the bar open. No one had told us anything. 90% of the time at the beach, they will have the red flags out to not let you swim. It seems most lifeguards would rather you just not go in the water than have to watch people. We had one that decided to sit at the back of the beach on his phone and would only come out to yell at people for daring to go into the water. This is with 2ft-4ft waves, which anyone who has ever been to FL will tell you, that is calm. in 2 weeks of being there, the only time the yellow flags came out were when there were 0 waves. Checking out was a nightmare. There were about 10 couples looking to check out, but the reps all had people checking in at each station which takes about 30 mins each. We ended up waiting about 20 mins to finally have a concierge come over to start checking us all out. We then also sat at the exit gate trying to leave for 10 mins while the only guard checked in 7 vehicles of people. Only to have her finally come over and just open the gate to let us leave without even asking who was leaving the property. Overall this hotel has some really good things going for it. But there are many areas that need a lot of improvement. This is one hotel that we would not come back to due to all the issues they have, specifically surrounding the beach.

    Beach disappointed

BEACH: As soon as the clock hits 5pm, they harass and yell at people to get out of the water and say it's because of the red flag, when they were ok with people swimming from early morning and until at 16:59, but not after 5pm when the red flag was present the whole day. There are people who come from the landlocked areas and pay a lot of money just to swim in the ocean, so it is so terrible of them to harass people like that because they wanna go home early. You also will need to walk quite a bit to get to the not-rocky area if you want to swim. Also, as soon as there is a crowd at the beach, around 10-12pm, the tractor comes along and cleans the seaweed -- so enjoy inhaling the exhaust along with some ocean breeze, because of course there is no better time to clean the seaweed. FOOD: Lunch selection is absolutely terrible. You cannot chew the meat, it's like rubber---any kind. Ladies that fry fish/meat -- cannot fry them properly. We waited for at least AN HOUR to be seated at 8pm--they have not buffet for dinner. The Italian is the best one to visit. The French and Indonesian are second best, but the food there is pretty mediocre. The Japanese one (just normal menu, not sushi bar and not hibachi) is the worst! Do not recommend. Le Marche (lunch buffet) closes the area where the AC is at 3 pm, and then everybody is forced to eat in a hot area until 4 pm. A lot of mosquitos everywhere and the hotel does not spray or provide complimentary repellants anymore like they used to do, unless you are near the restaurant. FITNESS: they clean/sweep the room during lunch when the majority of people work out there so you will breath in all this dust. Also, the weight room is outside--good luck working out in a heat! The tiny room with a couple of cardio machines and all upper-body cable machines cannot be called a fitness center--it's a joke! ENTERTAINMENT: Horrible shows! They can't even hire a normal Michael Jackson impersonator, let alone the rest of the less-known acts. Ppl would literally stand up and leave after each song as the MJ show progressed and the MJ show is always the highlight of any resort!!!! Do not waste your time going to the 9pm shows. The IMPERIAL BAND was superb!!!!--you can request them to play your fav songs and can even dance there. The DJ afterwards and dancing were fun too if you have the crowd. You can also request Dj to play songs because he's not really good by himself. Otherwise, the entertainment crew are not doing their jobs to attract more people, so you are on your own.

    A Sure Value

We stayed at the Valentin Imperial ten years ago and were extremely satisfied. We repeated the experience in 2024 and were delighted to find that the Valentin had remained much the same, with beautiful rooms, excellent cuisine and excellent service. However, one thing had changed... and in our opinion would need to be corrected. In its desire to be a cutting-edge hotel, the establishment seems to have forgotten that one of the main reasons why we take vacations is to “disconnect”, particularly from our cell phones. We therefore strongly recommend that the hotel reintroduce a traditional paper menu in all its restaurants, so that guests do not have to carry their cell phones everywhere in the hotel.

    Impressive, Fun, and Amazing Resort!

Just got home from our first visit at the VIM and we had so much fun with our family! We have been to several all-inclusive resorts over the years and the service and care of this resort is like one we've never seen. Our first day we only got to explore a little due to Hurricane Beryl and had to remain in our room starting at 6pm but once the storm was over the next morning, the resort did not waste any time getting the restaurants, pools, and paths cleaned and back open! The food was excellent at all the restaurants, the foam party on Sunday was fun, and we also enjoyed all the evening entertainment. Don Miguel's had fun drinks to select from and we loved the Churro cart! While we met so many amazing staff, the two who stood out to us was Francisco at the pool, he always had our families Bali beds together each day and was always so friendly! And the other is DORA!! It was so much fun meeting and connecting with her! She truly makes everyone feel welcomed. If you haven't found her yet, ask around! She's basically the VIM celebrity (haha!) Thank you all of VIM for a wonderful time, we cannot wait to be back! Do yourself a favor and book this resort!
