WORST VACATION EVER!
This was my absolute worst experience in a hotel ever, and i travel like twelve times per year or more. From the chaotic front desk, where everyone appears to be upset about something, to them putting me in a room for three people with one bed. Looks like we were downgraded so that we could have two beds. The curtain to the sliding door could not close. It was good that I didn't take a partner. The phone has multiple cross lines and when someone answers, the attitude is on high. For a whole day we did not have one towel, not a fee cloth, not a drying off call..NOTHING!! Finally after numerous calls, I went to the front desk and after waiting about an hour, was given a few face towels to bathe and dry of with. The shower door could not close and when someone came to fix it, when you showered, the bathroom floods out. Bugs were in the room. The Pressure is TALLL in there. Very few people smile or are willing to assist. When you try to get help, they argue with you, then dismiss you and speak to someoneelse, leaving you furher infuriated. The Kids Club and the landscaping are amazing! It's really sad to see that as beautiful as the hotel is on the outside, the service and maintenance on the inside does not match!

Beautiful Property (the kind title)
I had the pleasure of staying at the Bahia Principe Grand in Jamaica (Runaway Bay) recently, and the short version of this review is that I won’t return. I will start with the positive. I was assigned (and paid extra for) a renovated room. And the room was good. There’s a spacious dressing area, a balcony that overlooks the pool and offers an ocean view, and this section (17) is conveniently located near the restaurants and various activities. The property itself is also good. It’s well-maintained, and despite overhearing some staff complaining about how cheap the owners are for not providing quality tools for them to do their jobs, they do a good job with the maintenance. But that’s where the positive part of this review ends. When I was younger, growing up in Jamaica, there were some people we used to call “pretty dunces,” meaning they looked good but they had no brains. This is equivalent to a pretty dunce because the property is lovely, but the service is much to be desired. I was there with a large group for a family function, but this review focuses only on my travel companion and me, and not on the rest of the group, who had their own complaints. As is normal at most hotels these days, our room wasn’t ready when we arrived (at about 13:30 local time). I was told the room would be ready at 15:00 (the check-in time), but we could go have lunch at one of the restaurants. It is an all-inclusive property. We walked over to the “Jerk Station,” and there was no food left. The staff suggested we go to the buffet by the pool (the long line should have been a clue that there was food there). We stood patiently in line, and when the people about three ahead of us got their food, the cook proclaimed, “Chicken done,” and just walked away. That’s it. There was no more chicken, no more pork, and no more fish (which some family members who had arrived earlier said they had gotten). You’d think that for an all-inclusive property, they’d know how many people are there and would gauge the food accordingly. But that might require some advance planning. My room was finally ready (at about 15:40), but again, I won’t complain *too much* about that because it seems to be the industry standard at this point. And would it have been difficult to have elevators that are not confusing (see photo) I will comment, however, about the service in general. While people respect the laid-back approach that is common across the island, being laid-back does not negate the need to be professional and courteous (like not saying “chicken done!”). Some simple things can be done to enhance the guest experience. At the buffet, once you are seated, there is no way to prevent other people from sitting where you were seated. So, unless you leave an intentional, visible object at the table, someone else could simply take your seat, and the staff is OK with that. This could easily be resolved with “occupied” and “available” reversible signs at the tables. My room was serviced by housekeeping, but no fresh linens were left in the room. When I asked the housekeeper (who was still on the floor), her response was “We didn’t get clean linens yet.” This is unacceptable. And maybe bring your own blanket, because if you ask the staff to bring one, you may not receive it until the next day. There are a few restaurants that require reservations, but be sure to book days in advance because it seems there is never any availability (even though when I finally got a reservation, there were empty tables for the entire time I was seated (about 2 hours). A lot of last-minute cancellations? They will charge you USD$20 if you don’t show up and haven’t canceled. So I wonder how much money they collected that evening? Finally, there’s the app. They say you can do a lot of things on the app. But I certainly hope others had better luck than I. The only thing I was able to do-or so I thought-was to check out on the app. Except when I was leaving and told the bellman (who stopped me) that I checked out on the app, he told me I had to go to the desk to get a “checkout verification.” Getting me the verification of checkout was the best thing they could have given me.

Great resort, will return!
Just wanted to come on here to say what an amazing time we had at the Grand Bahia principe, please don’t let the bad reviews put you off. We travelled as a family of 3 plus my sister in law and family, so 6 in total. I emailed before and requested rooms in block 18 and next to each other. Our rooms were in block 18 and ground floor, newly renovated. AC was great, toilet blocked a few times but seems to happen throughout hotel! Also had a leak one eve but reported and maintenence sorted very quickly! Used app for concierge to report or phone. Also replaced mini bar daily and extra using app. Overall food and drinks were good, it becomes abit samey (but that’s the same with every all inclusive). Booked 3 a La carte restaurants, nice to have table service and food good, but long wait on one...seemed under staffed! Poolside entertainment is on everyday, they play music from 10am, bars open, then they start doing games etc getting guests involved dancing , was really fun to watch. Evening Entertainment is minimal, finishes at 11pm every night and then there a karaoke inside (but that’s not for us) There wasnt many shows, we saw a magic show & there was one other show but you had to pay for it & we weren't that interested so we didn’t go. Beach was beautiful & all grounds are kept really well , always looked clean and tidy through out the hotel & grounds. Staff- so we found alot of the staff are quite rude, you do come across the off few that are very accommodating but not the majority, unfortunately don’t even give you a smile or warm welcome. Which is such a shame. We always tip & don’t mind doing so but some just expect it even when rude & not providing a good service. This is the only downfall of the holiday. But overall it was an amazing trip, loved the hotel, didn’t see any of the renovating going on, pools were lovely, we also went swimming in sea. Plenty of bars on beach and poolside! Visited Dunns Rover and Ochio and enjoyed eve meal at Sharkies nearby. Would definitely return.

Lovely Vacation
My family, a party of eight, recently visited the Bahia Principe Grand Jamaica from July 8-12, 2025, and we had a fantastic stay. Melissa, Antonio, and Johnis were amazing. Antonio and Johnis were particularly helpful in securing our family reservations at Dolce Vita, where the food was absolutely delicious. The buffets were also surprisingly delightful, and I was pleased with the daily rotation of offerings. This was a welcome change, as resort food can often become bland with the same options every day. Our children thoroughly enjoyed the kids' club. DeeDee, in particular, was like a mother to them, and we didn't worry about them for a single second. The Xaymaca production was both informational and inspiring, and well worth the price, even though resorts I've visited in the past typically didn't charge for shows. Our room, located on the fourth floor in building 14, was a bit dated but exceptionally clean. Our housekeeper was incredibly helpful and a very sweet young lady. I also had a massage at the spa that was truly rejuvenating; I left my appointment feeling super relaxed. The price was quite reasonable. Ghandi, our dive instructor, was superb. He is an excellent teacher, and I highly recommend asking for him if you plan on going on a diving excursion. All of the pool and bar staff felt like family, demonstrating their attentiveness to guests. They truly deserve a bonus for working in the heat with smiles on their faces. Areas for Improvement The only downside at Bahia Principe Grand Jamaica was the limited availability for dinner reservations. Most guests had booked their reservations pre-arrival using the app, which we were unfortunately unaware of. I believe the hotel should allocate a certain number of reservations for guests who do not book online. Thankfully, we voiced our concerns and received accommodations. Another issue was the extremely slow check-in process, exacerbated by slow internet during both check-in and check-out. However, the pleasantness of the reservationists certainly made up for the internet inconvenience. Overall Experience Overall, we had a great stay! I truly appreciate that the Bahia Principe Grand Jamaica met our expectations.
- AdvisoryWe are going to renovate completely the Bahia Principe Grand Jamaica. To do this project, we will need to close the hotel completely from January 10th, 2026, until December 1st, 2026. When reopening the hotel, it will be completely new and up to date with today's clients’ needs and expectations.
