    The bones are there

As a first time visitor I was so excited to go as it is my sister’s favorite place to go. She and her family have been going for over a dozen years with her family. I was looking for a quiet, resort experience to celebrate our birthdays. Not quiet. Loud aggressive music at the pools led by a loud aggressive MC. We aren’t pool people (thankfully) so we took the tram to the beach which is great. The buffet is well stocked. Anything you want, they have and in abundance. The restaurants are really good (if you can get a rez). Property is well kept. Rooms are clean but basic and no frills. Overall the place needs a makeover. Looks old. Paint peeling off buildings and railings in most places. The most quiet and interesting part of the property (zen) is really run down. Such a shame because you can see what it used to be. Right on the PGA golf course which if you’re there for that you will not be disappointed. Close to other beach towns like Akumal which I recommend. Worth the price point if you aren’t wanting 4-5 star experience. Tulum on a budget. The staff is always kind and welcoming but the communication on line or on the phone isn’t great at all. Three stars for me. Four on a good day.

Good but not a great as in the past

We just left November 14 th after a week long stay, I believe this was our eleventh visit, the staff are simply amazing and so accommodating, the rooms are good , we always stay in a ground floor superior suite with hot tub and we have no complaints, the housekeeping is very good , the mini bat was restocked with most items each day aside from the mini liquor bottles, The things we noticed that have changed over the past few years, activity pool not as fun as in the past and example is that volleyball is only about a half hour, followed by some different little short games that are entertaining but just not as fun as in the past , no more foam party , if you have been before you will know what I mean The nightly entertainment is not as good as previous years, the shows that are still advertised on the app do not exist anymore example is Black Bird, can no longer get a Spanish coffee anywhere Would I go back , yes as we have booked with friends for end of January, would I be afraid to book this hotel as a new guest not at all , I just noticed changes and so have other some other guest Staff like Daniel in the main buffet , Roque at the Alux, Alina was at buffet but now at the snack bar by the pool are outstanding people ( they really all are)

    Good bang for your buck

My husband and I stayed here for 5 nights. We got an amazing price for the stay and it was definitely worth it. I’ll break my review up into categories: 1. FOOD = the food I would give 3.5/5. The buffet selections were decent and had good variety. We tried Tequila (great!), Mikaido (good), and Portofino (great). One major setback for me was the Alux restaurant - I was so disappointed in my meal there. I am surprised by the reviews I’ve read saying it was good. The meat for my main course was a terrible cut and had an awful taste. The dessert was even worse - crumbles of Roquefort cheese in a pudding cake. Usually, I have great meals at the reservation restaurants in Mexico, so this one surprised me. 2. DRINKS = 3.5/5. They made a great chocolate martini and Bloody Mary. Most of the fruity cocktails, however, were sweetened with Splenda or had artificially sweetened syrups, which I did not enjoy. 3. SERVICE AND ENTERTAINMENT = 4/5. While service was sometimes a bit slow, overall it was very good. The lady who served drinks at the Cenote pool was great and very attentive. The entertainment team was great and the evening events were enjoyable. I only wish the team did more to encourage the people at the pools to join the day’s events, like going around and reminding people about them. 4. DECOR AND ROOMS = 3.5/5. The rooms are definitely dated and could use a refresh. Other than a wonky shower (which would randomly get quite hot), we had everything we needed. The main lobby isn’t as grand and beautiful as the other Bahía hotels, but the pathway to the shuttles is lit up with string lights at night and is quite pretty. 5. POOLS AND OVERALL VIBES = 5/5. if you’re looking for a quiet, jungle sanctuary, this is the place for you. We liked all the shaded walkways as my husband is prone to burning. We enjoyed the Cenote pool as there was always a lot of shade to hide from the sun as well. The crowd here is adults-only and ranged from 30s and up, but mostly was an older 50s+ crowd. If you decide you want to have a more lively environment, you can easily take a quick shuttle over to the Akumal, Tulum or Coba resorts.

    Disappointed

Just returned after a 10 night stay- our first time in Mexico- and feel the need to write an honest review. I'll start with the positives; Check in was smooth, welcome drink and cold towel much needed and appreciated. The hotel setting is beautiful, loved the variety of wildlife in particularly the cheeky coaties and colourful birds. The staff are friendly, welcoming and hardworking, nothing was ever too much trouble. Unfortunately thats where the positives end! Advertised as luxury, it is most definitely not! The hotel looks tired and in need of renovation. Looking for tranquility? Don't visit here unless you want endless nights of sports playing alongside the nightly entertainment! How the entertainment team have to compete against the noise from the lobby bar is really not fair or acceptable, there's a sports bar in Coba that people can easily access. Rowdy adults floating around the pools, not just the party pool, getting louder the more they drink and the later it gets and patrons playing their own music on speakers or phones! This behaviour does not give 5 star relaxing vibes. I have to agree with previous reviews about the restaurants and food, both are far below the standards we were expecting, The Buffet..Food was consistently cold and not freshly prepared. How can a lasagne brought out ( fresh) from the kitchen still be cold! (We visited the buffet in both Tulum and Akumel and it was clear that it wasnt an issue there, the food was fresh, warm and plentiful with far more choice) Most of the food is wrongly labelled but the biggest issue is the gluten free section! I witnessed on several occasions people taking bread -from the stand- and putting it in the gluten free toaster! This filled me with horror, its so dangerous. Despite informing the staff, the issue was not promptly or adequately addressed. The A La Carte restaurants - the booking system is a joke! We checked in on the app 10 days before we arrived only to be able to secure 5 restaurants! Again, advertising is wrong it clearly states that you have the choice of all of the restaurants- you don't! They are either full or shut! Cenote Snack Bar- Food was often cold and the service very slow, although it was still better than the buffet. Over an hour for lunch one day only to be sent back as it was cold! I could add more but I want my review to be based on facts and not opinion. Overall, I can honestly say we have arrived home feeling disappointed and decieved.
