    Great Dining Experience

I had miss Joanne as my waitress and she was amazing and a great person to keep a conversation with. She also didn’t seem to judge any sort of option you chose and gave good feedback if you asked her anything.

Be ready for lots of construction, noise, renovation, no spa/casino; very expensive

Unfortunately, the number of renovations occurring at the resort really disrupted the experience. When booking earlier this year (and still listed on their website/ads/emails!) the spa and casino were expected to re-open this summer. June became November, November became December, December now saying next year. When paying ~$450+ per night including all fees/taxes, you should get the full offerings. Not only were the spa and casino still closed, the entire building id under construction. Some of the hot tubs are ripped up and closed off. On every single floor, from 7am through 6pm there are dozens of constructions workers. We were hoping to sleep-in on vacation, but not a single day - every day woken up at 7am to the voices of dozens of constructions workers setting up for the day, humming of drills and hammers. They were told to not start until after 8am, but often started hearing the loud construction by 730am start daily, even weekends. Not only the noise - but the mess - the hallways were full of chipped wood and paint 24/7 despite their efforts. They could have better planned this by doing 1 floor at a time to minimize impact to customers. In addition, it was overly expensive. We easily spent (2 people) $600/day on meals, alcohol, and sunscreen. Everything was 2-3x what it costs in the US - $30 bottles of sunscreen, expensive meals, $60 bottles of win in the store, etc. Many drinks are $20-30 each at the bar. Perhaps we were lazy, but would have been much smarter to stop at a market on the way in to stock up on sunscreen, drinks, snacks - we opted to buy everything from store and stay at resort full vacation. Despite all these issues with construction, closures, and high costs - the resort was beautiful. Plenty of restaurants, pools and things to do. Beautiful campus, multiple weddings every day across their property. Super friendly staff. Good food. It could have been a great vacation, but the renovations and costs were an issue. I understand renovations are difficult to coordinate and never a good time, at a minimum they should have significantly reduced their rates or comp'd food knowing you're not getting access to all the offerings while paying in full.

    Paradise in Puerto Rico!

Wyndham Rio Mar (and Puerto Rico in general!) is our taste of paradise usually at least twice a year. This morning we had breakfast in Roots and Joanne was incredibly kind, efficient and welcoming! In fact every associate we encountered was kind and offered to get us anything we may have needed. We will be back!

    Upset

The hotel was clean and pretty, the staff were nice and helpful however the hidden fees were ridiculous. We were hit with unexpected fees throughout. $70 a day for “amenity fees” However nothing was included. The casino and spa were closed, the parking fee was hidden and tagged on at checkout, and we didn’t even get our waters that were “included” everyday we were told me had to go buy from the store. At checkout they hit us with a $72 fee for parking separate even though told included. So essentially nothing was included on this amenity fee because we received nothing with it aside from the WiFi.
