This was my first trip solo to the Dominican Republic and to the Melia. This trip did not disappoint. Everything was amazing. The room was always immaculate. It was close to the beach and pool. The breakfast buffet was also very close and so many choices. They always had my iced coffee ready! The staff is every area was super friendly and the best!!! It was great using the cabana for the day and the service was really incredible. I was never wanting for anything. I give the Melia a high recommendation.

We just returned from our one week stay at the Melia, Wellness. Rating would be much higher but dropped when we returned home. Room was nice and clean, located down by the beach, which I recommend. Food at the beach area buffet was usually fresh, with lots of variety.Bars were well stocked and staff good. Buffet closer to the lobby is only open during supper and the three times we went, was good other than on 'Mexican' night where they ran out of some things. Beach and pool were very vice. Usually lots of chairs are available if you're down by there 7:30 which we tried. One unfortunate part of our trip, which was truly shocking and disturbing was that ALL of our checked luggage, from 2 couples, was ransacked by someone in the airport. I'm assuming it's the baggage handlers but you cannot not be sure. Zippers were opened, shaving kits and makeup kits were dumped within our bags, they were obviously looking for valuables.I had a small amount of money for tips, stolen from a zippered pouch. We have been to Punta Cana several times before and have never had this issue until now. This is truly disappointing and will make us think about returning to Punta Cana. There's many options to go where you don't have to worry about your luggage getting opened and things stolen from it. The authorities and hotels have to get a handle on this or they will be losing tourists.

Bliss
Enjoyed my stay!! Gilberto Payan & the rest of the staff made my stay magical!!! I recommend staying in the Level because it’s a better experience!! Beach was beautiful, food delicious, & everyone in the DR is so kind!! Kenny at the spa is fabulous for massage! The activities the spa holds are blast, mud therapy & yoga were the best!! Muchas gracias 🫶🏽💗

4 day girls trip Bad low quality food, had to argue to get reservations in "specialty" restaurants. Absolutely no entertainment or activities! Ran out of beach towels by 10am daily. Not enough beach or pool chairs. Zero to little staff that are English speaking. Room safes are non functioning. $60 stole from wallet while in non functioning safe. 20 min walk to beach and/or pool. Horrible experience!

A mixed bag.
We recently spent 10 nights at Meliá Punta Cana Beach, staying in The Level Garden Suite by Stay Well. We chose this resort for its advertised 5-star rating and wellness-focused, all-inclusive concept, going in with high expectations. Unfortunately, the experience fell short in multiple areas. Wellness & Facilities: For a resort marketed as wellness-centered, very little stood out. The facilities were fine but far from memorable or distinctive. Nothing about the wellness offering felt elevated or aligned with a true 5-star experience. All-Inclusive Food & Drinks Food Quality varied dramatically depending on where you ate. • Mediterranean Restaurant: Portions were extremely small. • Evening Buffet: Generally disappointing, with American Night being the only notable exception. • Beach Lunch Buffet: Excellent—simple, fresh, and easily the standout of the all-inclusive options. • Quimera Level Restaurant: - Breakfast: Very good. - Lunch: Okay, but the menu felt oddly random. It should really align with the room-service menu for consistency. - Dinner: Extremely underwhelming. Food took a long time to arrive and was not flavourful. Drinks Despite The Level including premium options, the hotel repeatedly ran out of beverages to the point where it felt like staff were “running to the supermarket” to restock. Inventory management seemed non-existent. Service & Staff Service was uneven and exactly as many reviews had warned. • Tipping made no difference. We are frequent tippers, but service remained unpredictable. • Private concierge service felt more like a marketing gimmick than a genuine benefit - they made dinner reservations but we continually had to chase for confirmation. • Staff ranged from indifferent to pleasant, with inconsistency being the most consistent part of the experience. A notable positive: The staff at the Vietnamese restaurant Moui were genuinely wonderful and made a strong positive impression. Technology & Communication The resort relies heavily on its app, which was almost entirely unhelpful, also odd considering wellness generally defines as less screen time. • Menus didn’t match what restaurants actually offered. • No clear explanation of package inclusions, making it difficult to understand the true value of “premium” items. • Wi-Fi was slow, patchy, and dated—comparable to a setup from 15 years ago. Most modern hotels offer tiered or upgraded Wi-Fi for premium rooms, but not here. Sunbed Situation Perhaps the most frustrating aspect of the entire stay. The hotel enforces no lounger rules whatsoever, creating daily chaos: • By 6 AM, in complete darkness, loungers were already “reserved” with towels. • By 7 AM, especially on The Level pool, finding two loungers was stressful. • Many loungers went unused until 4 PM despite being “claimed” since morning. • Guests routinely reserved multiple loungers per person, and staff did nothing to prevent it. • While signage mentions a 30-minute rule for unattended beds, it is not enforced. Late Check-Out Issue We requested a late check-out but were told it was not possible due to high occupancy. Because this didn’t align with our experience, we checked availability online and found multiple rooms open for booking, including our exact category and others. We even offered to pay for the late check-out, but this made no difference. The response came across as dismissive and unaccommodating, especially frustrating at the end of an already inconsistent stay. What We Did Enjoy • Perfect weather • A much-needed break from routine • The excellent team at Moui These were the highlights that made the trip enjoyable despite the resort’s shortcomings. Would We Recommend It? It depends on expectations. For the price we paid (excluding flights), we expected significantly more. • Would we return? No. • Would we recommend booking a suite? No. • Wellness rooms? Probably not. • The Level? Yes—but only the basic Level rooms. The higher categories offered no meaningful advantages for the extra cost.
