Beautiful
Staff was friendly and more than willing to accommodate. Hotel is absolutely beautiful. During the day - especially in low season - the many ornate bars were empty. But come the weekend, it explodes!

Stay elsewhere. Come for the vibes.
I’ll cut to the chase: stay next door at Royal Sonesta or airbnb and only come to ESJ for the entertainment. NOT the Fairmont standard on the mainland. I visited the Fairmont El San Juan in 2012 and had a wonderful time. While I did not stay at the hotel then, I made a mental note to stay next time in PR. Fast forward to my 50th birthday, myself and 40 friends and family traveled to PR for a BACARDÍ Birthday at Casa Bacardi, which was FANTASTIC! Anyways, 6 of my guests booked rooms at Fairmont, one of my guests was moved to Courtyard although he booked 8 months in advance. Already disappointing service. I booked a Banyan Bungalow and online they look AMAZING. In person, shabby shack. The amount of insects, geckos (dead and alive), and creepy crawlys I could not get any sound sleep without thinking something was crawling on me. Not to mention the sand fleas. It looked like I had chicken pox by the time I got home. By day 3 biggest cockroach I had ever seen. I went to the front desk with a picture of it and they laughed at me with a “welcome to Puerto Rico” nonchalant approach. The staff was warm and cold. Some were very accommodating and nice, some seemed cold and gave me the sense that they didn’t want to serve me. My uncle’s room in the tower was better, he and my aunt loved it. I should’ve stayed in the tower because the bungalows are weathered, dingy, and critters. Definitely not worth the money I spent.

Top notch service!
Many thanks to Jose Padin and team for all my last minute assistance. Team went above and beyond. I could have not asked for more! Big shout to Yvonne Ramos for staying close and always checking in. Pool cabaña service was top notch and not over powering. Thank you Jose. Nathan L

Beautiful historic hotel
Before I begin, I would like to note I travel monthly to tropical island destinations, however in all my years of travel this was my first time ever to Puerto Rico- it didn't disappoint and I'm already looking forward to going back. I frequently stay in luxury 5 star resorts all throughout the Caribbean and after weeks of research I finally settled on the Fairmont El San Juan, not knowing what to expect. I have never stayed at a Fairmont property and based my decision solely off all of the TikTok videos, Instagram reels and recent reviews I read. I have very high expectations when traveling and I was very satisfied as a whole. It was beautiful inside and I loved the overall vibe throughout, from the Chandelier bar, Foxwoods casino, restaurants to the Ocean villas. I truly stay in stunning rooms and suites when I travel and when I walked into my Ocean Villa I was immediately impressed with the room itself. It was bright, very clean and nicely furnished, had great amenities, loved the tub and the Fairmont Beach Bag and black hat was great quality and a really nice touch which I especially loved. Onto the pool- this is where I spent majority of my days. For this time of year the weather in Puerto Rico during my stay was beautiful and sunny with the expected periodic afternoon rainshower. Isla Verde Beach was paradise. The water was amazing- you wouldn't even know you were in Puerto Rico. They had all the typical Parasail, Jetski rentals and banana boat rentals right on site. I wasn't impressed with the beach staff at first but by the end of my stay everyone I encountered was top notch. I want to give a huge shout out to a real professional, Carlos Q- the pool and beach manager who ultimately made my stay what it was. He checked on me daily, was always very professional in all his interactions and just went above and beyond with the little gestures that meant more than I could express. The pool hut guys and girls were top notch every morning and throughout the day and having Alejandra as my poolside server was a real treat and Joseph at the El San Juan Beach Club made unreal delicious Guava cocktails that I kept going back for more of. In the hotel, Francisco L. at the Concierge desk is the absolute best. Meeting him was more than a pleasure and not only did he give excellent recommendations on what to do in Puerto Rico, we had such genuine conversation and he was very personable. As someone who works in luxury resorts, his level of professional was unmatched. A great asset to the Fairmont El San Juan hotel. The bartenders at Chandelier bar were one of the highlights of my stay. Both the tall black gentleman- Joe and I forgot the other, made perfect cocktails and I truly looked forward to seeing them nightly. Loved listening to their stories of the Fairmont over the course of their employment, some 25+ years and were so insightful on the island especially for a first time visitor to Puerto Rico. Loved Vivian at the Banyan Tree grill! I met her on my day of departure and her energy was something else!! She was amazing. She was full of life and extremely friendly. Meat Market was incredible- my filet dinner was excellent and the food all throughout the resort was delicious- the pool food was fresh and nicely prepared and very good as was it at Banyan Tree Grill. Highly recommend the El San Juan hotel. While it has top notch amenities, beautiful facilities and a top notch pool and beach area with the perfect vibe, the staff ultimately made my vacation what it was and I'll be returning especially for the people mentioned above. Thank you for a great stay -Nick G
