    No enough sunbeds and umbrellas

Just arrived back from this lovely hotel It’s a laid back small resort with many pluses. Restaurants are easy to book on the app and tables are always available. Food is a bit hit and miss but plenty of choice. Our favourite was Sorrento the Italian. Lasagne and carbonara were delicious. You can also book any of the restaurants next door. We went to Steakville which was ok. Buffet breakfast at the Thalassa was very good. There was also a burger van on the beach. Only went once as the burger was pink in the middle Rooms very big with plenty of wardrobe space and kept very clean. Turndown service was sporadic Big issue was sunbeds and umbrellas. Nowhere near enough. We had to get up at 6.30 to reserve them which you don’t want to do on holiday. We complained to one of the staff but were told they had to come from Spain so were difficult to procure. We wouldn’t return again for this reason. Beds always available on the beach but it was always very windy

    Catalonia Royal Bavaro

The beach and beach bar are outstanding. The staff are great especially Flor in the piano bar, Marcos on the beach and our Housekeeper Evelyn. The room was comfortable and clean, the showerhead needed some work, though. The food was good but service was a little slow in some of the restaurants (Sorento for supper and BLoved for breakfast and supper). We booked an excursion, that we had to cancel, through Juan Hernandez on the beach. He's a great, stand up guy, we had no problem getting a refund. He also arranged a shopping trip for us that was great. I highly recommend booking excursions from him.

    So so resort

We reserved a pool suite which we received . The room had a very bad smell, and the ac stopped working. We addressed these issues and someone was sent very quickly to take care of the issues. Sadly they were not fixed. That evening we went to the desk and they nicely offered to change our room the next day. Upon arrival of the new room it seemed much better. The a c was function nicely however same smell was still noticeable. We choose not to address the issue as we did not want to move rooms again. The pool has not been the cleanest. We are constantly scopping dead frogs and geckos out the pool along with other debris. There doesn't seem to be much filtration happening, so we have stopped using it. On a happier note the overall staff have been very nice. Would we come back? Not likely.

    Traveler's Take Caution

Beware of this hotel. We stayed in a Privileged Deluxe Junior Suite in Building 36, and not once did we feel privileged while at this resort. There was no TV Service the whole stay, not one mention of a credit for the inconvenience. Front Desk hung up on us twice and put us on hold only to be hung up on again after waiting on hold. We like to have the TV for an afternoon nap, and prior to going to bed. We woke up one morning with a puddle on the floor (ceiling was leaking as a constant drip). It took them a couple hours to get someone to the room where they temporarily fixed the problem. We found the ceiling leaking again that night, and had to call maintenance again to fix. This time they were quicker, and seemed to have solved the problem. Beach: The beach was ok, unfortunately the hotel does not police who goes into the privileged area, as there were many people from the Family Resort, and then some from the adult only resort who weren't part of the "Privileged" package in the roped off area. This limited the chair selection, and made it difficult to find a spot that we had upgraded for. The beach is full of seaweed, and the water is brown, not the beautiful Caribbean Blue that you are looking/hoping for. The food on the beach was decent, and the drink service was pretty good. Vendors weren't nearly as bad as I had read about earlier. Food: There is no buffet on the adult only side, which is fine if you like sit down restaurants for all of your meals. Unfortunately, we went to the family side to the buffet for lunch on our last day, and came home with some sort of virus that we have no clue what it is. Maybe stay away from the salad. Still trying to recover, and that was on the 25th. Overall, the food was decent with good selections. Tao Cat was our favorite with Bloved coming in a close 2nd. Construction: Beware of the construction on the back side of Building 36. We were not made aware of this construction, and the jack hammering (we have video evidence) during the middle of the day was miserable. I felt sorry for the families staying on the family side right next to the construction, as I am sure their building was shaking while their children were trying to take a nap. Not a single mention of the construction before we arrived or when we checked in. We would have expected maybe a credit for all of the inconveniences, as well as not receiving the "privileged" package we paid for. They produced a product that did not equal their advertising for the resort. We are very disappointed, and will not be back to this resort for our next trip to the Dominican Republic.

The Best Resort We Have Been To Yet

Our first time at this resort and overall we were very pleased with our experiences there. The staff was very friendly and helpful, especially Hector in the El Palmera Bar who was super friendly and was working very hard each time we were there. We were impressed at the cleanliness overall and really liked their approach to being a "green" resort. The food was good, the beach well kept and laid out well and the beach vendors were not pushy. The room we had, a Deluxe Romance Jr Suite was very nice although a bit dated. There were renovations going on it other buildings so I assume they will eventually get to the building we were in. There were a few minor issues but nothing that would keep us from going back.
