Good resort , good for families and small gatherings . Out of the bustle of Puerto Vallarta.
We were impressed by the quick check in. We weren't impressed by the premium price of $150 per couple per day. All that gets you is a room higher up and access to the premium lounge which was dismal. The premium liquors weren't any different as the bars, all you had to do is ask. Not sure if the wine choices were better either. Also you get to reserve multiple days of the to lacarte restaurants. The lineups started right at 9:00 and most were booked up in a few hours. As you could only reserve on the day of. We weren't very impressed by any of the food in the Al LA cartes, although the steak I had was fabulous in the steak restaurant. The Japanese was not teppan style and was just salads and rolls. My husband and many other guests I had spoke to had what we thought was probably food posioning. Projectile vomiting throughout the night. He ate some questionable dried up appies in the lounge that I refused to eat. Many other people were quite ill as well. Spending days in bed and feeling very sick. I was fine. One guest stayed he ate a prawn cocktail that was served warm, he thought it must of been that. I commented to the food manager that the staff should stop serving beverages while holding the rim of the glasses, he was very receptive and hopefully changed this practice. I question the holding temperatures of the buffets? Never saw anyone taking temperatures. I avoided seafoods and ate only fruits and prepared items. The resort and pools are fabulous, lots of families. Only one lounge and they really catered to families, no where to dance or party at night really. The beach is not ideal for snorkeling, big waves and too many boats. While we were there they were building a pier for bigger boats, the quaintness of missmaloya beach will be a thing of the past. We went for a walk thru town and took the city bus into pv which stopped right outside the resort. They had lots of things to do in the evening kareoke, they had an auction and other events daily. The concierge was fantastic wish I got her name. Our favourite part was the Vallarta tour to yelapa and majarita beach. ( Not sure if spelling) This is a great place for a quieter chill vacation. Hopefully they will work on the food quality and health standards.

Sicilian coffee & food at Capri resturant at Barcelo'
Rene Licola & Luis Alvarez made a coffee with smoked cinnamon that was out of this world delicious. Creamy, fragrant with coffee beans on top. The antipasti with aged authentic Parmesan cheese can not be equalled. Thank Capri resturant!!

Our Favorite Place (6th time and more to come)
It's so strange to read reviews from the same time we were there and see that they are negative. We had an AMAZING experience, yet AGAIN! The staff are amazing - Oscar, Moises, Mayara, Yarely, Apolonia - all are GREAT! For American Thanksgiving they truly served one of the best turkey dinners we have ever had. THANK YOU! The entertainment (both the shows and Cantina) was fabulous. The entertainment has gone through a serious upgrade this year and we were super impressed. Yes, the resort is older. Yes - a lot of the buffet food can feel repetitive. But here's the deal, as an older resort, it is still cared for, and the grounds are beautiful. And the buffet mixes it up a bit each day. There is something for everyone. Over the years we have brought 18 other peeps with us and have always been proud to do so. Thank you to Barcelo PV for always feeling like home away from home for us.

Disappointing
Management must review food handling procedures and food safety. Food poisoning is very common as reported by other guests and within our group. We witnessed staff preparing the food wearing ripped gloves, working with food not wearing gloves, cross contamination of food by using their hands instead of using utensils. Food being left on the counter for hours without refrigeration. The concierge was very attentive but the from desk representative was rude and dismissive. The resort is beautiful, nice location, staff was great, other than the front desk staff. I have stayed another Barcelo locations and never experienced this. I do not want the “canned” response from management, how they cannot control eternal influences because this happened on the resort. Address the issue and fix it. Your guests deserve better.
