The hotel was very clean and the staff very friendly and helpful. The room furniture was very uncomfortable, although the bed was good. There was a problem getting a a chair by the pool or beach. Small beach area, but large pool area, though both were crowded. The beach was nice for walking. Restaurant food was good, but we preferred to go to the Malecon for dinner and entertainment.

The Hotel was fine but their number one goal was time share sales!

They were relentless. We arrived late in the day and they would not let us go to our room until they had badgered us to sign up for a time share pitch. We didn't and our room was at the front of the hotel with a noisy street view. Every time one left the hotel the time share sales person would chase you down! Also, the hotel implemented a 12.5% gratuity for all food and drink a few days into our stay. There was coffee in our room the first night but after that we had to purchase coffee for our little coffee maker. Now that I know the ropes I could handle another stay. The transfers from and to airport were difficult to set up since we had the Apple package. On departure we almost had to just pay our own way back to airport as the concierge woman was confused about our Apple transfer.

We just returned from our trip to Mexico and I can't say enough great things about this hotel. Aside from the fact that they tried to push a timeshare meeting on us (but we found this to be typical of Puerto Vallarta in general...the airport, hotel and even the shops), everything exceeded our expectations. We tried, for days, to find a way to book tours, but everything seemed to be tied to doing a timeshare meeting. It wasn't until the end of our trip that we found a desk, in the center of the lobby, where we could book tours not tied into a timeshare. The tours we booked (Rythym of the Night and Outdoor Adventures) were incredible and I cannot recommend enough how Vallarta Adventures runs their tours. They were some of the best we have ever done. Check in and check out, at the hotel, were extremely fast and efficient (but we did arrive and leave on a Thursday so those are not big travel days in general, our room was very clean and comfortable, the food was really good and service was impeccable. Even though we have done all-inclusives in the past, my husband is not a fan of buffets so we were both pleasantly surprised to find that we could order off menus at the restaurants, which we did every day. We did do the breakfast buffet, which had a nice assortment of American and Mexican food. The grounds were kept up very well as was the beach. Unfortunately, local vendors were on the beach all day and we were approached frequently to buy their goods. Again, this was typical of the area and not just the hotel. If bothered by this, there were 3 pools to sit at to avoid this as they were not allowed on the hotel's grounds. Because we love to travel, we try to never go back to the same place twice, but I definitely would like to return to Puerto Vallarta and stay at this same hotel. If you are the type who likes extreme luxury and not being engulfed in the culture of the country, I would recommend staying in Nuevo Vallarta as this part of Puerto Vallarta is where the locals vacation, but everyone was extremely friendly and nice and we were not treated any differently. El Centro was a quick bus ride away or about a 20-30 minute walk. We took the bus into town several times, but walked home in the evenings. We felt extremely safe everywhere we went and we never had a problem anywhere. My only suggestion is, if asked "how long are you here for", be sure to say "We are leaving tomorrow". Otherwise, you will be pulled into another timeshare push.

Hotel was one of the worst places I have ever stayed. The room was adequate and paid for an upgrade. Even when you turned on the tv and it showed a beautiful hotel, but in reality was not what it was. It was a selling for timeshares hotel. The food was the worst part of all and so glad we didn't do all inclusive because I would have asked for my money back.

check in took forever! we had to wait 2 hrs cause our room wasn't ready. This is Apples issue cause of their flight times chosen. we should have been told check in wasn't till 4pm. upon arrival at the airport we were accosted by a timeshare seller for half an hour or so, appeared to be an Apple employee, not appreciated.

Origianlly we were scheduled in a studio room which was very good except we requested a king size bed but didn't get one. In addition, we were next to the road which was very noisy. We only stayed in that room for one night. For an additional $20 per night we received an upgrade to a one bedroom suite far from the road and more central in the complex which was great!

No free internet and very expensive if purchased, and not good at all. There is no ice machine at all. It lacks of music around the pools and even they give you a list of activities that are supposed to happen around the pool in the 5 days we never saw them happen at all. We really think there needs to be a bit more of organization that could make it more pleasing. Internet is what made it the worst.

Best place and excellent service

My family and I have been staying at Villa Del Palmar ever since I was little, and regardless of the time of year and number of people staying, the staff always seems to be very attentive and courteous. The rooms are beautiful and the food is delicious; we couldn’t ask for more. Having friends that live in the nearby suburb, we tend to venture out from the resort and seldom find ourselves spending full days there. However when we do, there is never a feeling of “antsyness” or boredom as if the day was unfulfilling. The staff that runs the pool / beachside activities always seems to have engaging games for guests of all ages to participate in. Monse in particular was always extremely friendly and energetic, to the point where her cheerful attitude would reflect onto mine, making my stay all the more enjoyable. You couldn’t ask for a better employee. To conclude, and put it into perspective for someone more familiar with the Villa group, my family and I technically own a room and timeshare at Flamingos in Nueva Vallarta; a resort that receives higher rating and is perspectively much more elegant than this one. Yet there is a magic around Villa Del Palmar that draws us into wanting to stay here regardless of our options. I have high praise for this hotel and would recommend it to anyone looking to visit Puerto Vallarta, be it first timers or returning travelers.

Just returned home from our visit in Puerti Vallarta and thanks to the villa del palmar we fell in love with Mexico. It is a smaller scale resort but the staff are so friendly and go out of there way to make sure you are enjoying yourself. You are a short walk away from a small little mall and a short taxi ride away from downtown and lost of excursions. The food was delicious everywhere we ate. The beach was so close, and you could walk down further to even smoother sand. I got a massage (outside) and facial at the spa and they both were amazing. I'd say our only complaint was that everything closed kind of early (10pm pools)and 1030 bar and restaurants (with the exception of the sports bar on the weekend which was 1am I believe) of all the restaurants the sports bar was our least favorite, however, still had yummy food and drinks. These "cons" in no way impacted the time we had here. Our room had a beautiful view of the mountains and was the perfect size for my boyfriend and I with a decent sized bathroom and little kitchenette. Especially since we were barely in the room at all! You will be pestered on the beach with people selling stuff.. but it becomes very easy to say no. All in all we had an amazing time here and the staff were soo wonderful!

Unpleasant Experience

Villa Del Palmer does have potential to be great but they are not there yet. This reviewed is based on the experience from the front desk associates and management. The rest of the staff ( housekeepers, waiters/ waitress, event staff ) were awesome. When we arrived we were not allowed to go to our room until one of the front desk associates tried to get us involved in their time share. This dreadful experience took almost 45 mins. Included in this was aggressive interrogation of if we talked to anyone at the airport about time shares ( which we did ). The next morning we arise early to go visit the time share from the airport and as soon as we entered the lobby and exit the facility we were being chased and harassed by Villa Del Palmer with aggressive questioning about where we were going, who we were meeting, stay here and let us show you ours.. they followed us to the street. This was a very uncomfortable feeling and to make this short, this lasted our entire vacation so we checked out a day early. If this wasn’t occurring this place would be great.
