Amazing week!

My husband stayed here the week of MLK Day and loved it! Adults only was wonderful. FOOD: The breakfast and lunch buffets are solid. We loved the fresh omelet and crepe stations in the morning and the fajita station at lunch. Lots of choices. I only wish the wait service was a little faster with drinks in the morning because I usually got it when I was almost done eating, but to be fair I ordered cappuccinos. Dinner was fancier than we expected. Overall, we found the seafood dishes to be excellent but the steaks just okay. Our favorite was the seafood restaurant near the beach. We also went to the French and Mexican restaurants twice. Indonesian and Japanese were also good but not our favorites of the choices. Didn't try the Italian or lobster. ROOM SERVICE: We ordered breakfast the day before for one morning because we had an early excursion. It came exactly on time. It's a great option to have but we preferred the choices of the buffet. HIBACHI: The process for making a reservation is ridiculous. You have line up at one of the building concierge desks, and wait while all the buildings are trying to call the restaurant at the same time. We got in line at exactly 9am and still didn't get a spot because our guy wasn't able to get through. We only tried one day because it felt like such a waste of time. BARS: Don Miguel was the best! It's the only bar with a menu (love the espresso martini and wish more bars offered suggestions), and they offered a traditional tea service with finger sandwiches and desserts. Later, they had live piano. The pool and beach bars were great for during the day, offering mimosas, mojitos, frozen drinks, and pretty much anything you could think of. Mid-Top shelf alcohol. POOL: Huge and clean. Two bars that are swim up on one side and walk up on the other. The water was a little cold in January so we didn't swim that much. They have music and games throughout the day, so if you want a quieter area head to the end closest to the beach or just go to the beach. BEACH: Beautiful. No seaweed. Plenty of chairs. Drink waiters-though it's much faster to go to the beach bar yourself. The wifi doesn't reach out there. SMOKING- Smoking is allowed outside, including in outside seating at the restaurants and by the pool, which bothered us sometimes. I really wish the whole property was non smoking! OVERALL- Loved our stay and would return. There seemed to be lots of groups of friends there, maybe for the several weddings we saw, so it wasn't a "co More>

Honeymoon

This was our honeymoon and we were here for two weeks. Would we come back? yes, why? its 18+ and it is luxury. Food --> The french restaurant was our favorite the meat and soups here were incredible. You get unlmtd a la cartes so I would order all of the soups instead of an appetizer and soup. The italian it was good, the pizza was terrible OD on cheese, and cheese is my middle name. The thai the food was good but it was beyond the slowest service I had ever eperienced 2 hours to eat dinner for two. The mexican we didnt try. The steak house was Meh, I ordered the lobster here it was meh, better than the lobster at the french (was terrible there). Best part about the food UNLIMITED ROOM SERVICE!!!! we would order breakfast or late night almost everyday, the burgers were good, the nachos were good, the chicken wings were awesome!!!!! Alcohol - No complaints. top notch and quick service The room - We were in building 9 we had a beach front luxury suite. Here lies our biggest and pretty major complaint. Our Jacuzzi took over 2 hours to fill, by the time its full the water is cold. We called maintenance who said it was just like that, it didnt go any quicker. this was a huge let down because we paid an extra 500 USD to have this suite and that was 800 canadian dollars. huge bummer, despite this the view we had from out balcony was INCREDIBLE, waking up to that sunrise and hearing the ocean as you fall asleep was amazing, that was worth every penny, there was a side path by our building to a very private part of the beach we loved, the downsize was teh bar was such a walk away that by the time you got there you were finished your drink. Beach - Beautiful but not very swimmable, the coral was right to the shore. The chairs at the beach are comfy as are the umbrellas. Pool - The main pool is big but I wish there were other options, there were a lot of body builder like people there which made myself and my husband feel quite out of place as we are not uber fit people so we kind of hid in the corners. Entertainment - the band the imperial maya band was good the girl was awesome, the man just read lyrics off the ipad all night, the live shows were lack lustre, we loved the little coziness of the market square live band area between all the restaurants, it really was a beautiful area. Eduardo was a bellman and drove the cart often, he was honest and proud and kind, by far the best employee we encountered at VIM, be sure to tell him he was fantastic to us to our many drives to drop us off at the highway to catch the collectivo. he was just a good person and it was so refreshing. Would we return? You bet. More>

This was our third visit, and our very first 2 weeks vacation. So I can answer this question, is 2 weeks too long at the VIM? Not at all. This was an amazing romantic trip and at the same time got to meet fantastic people. Check in: flawless, we didn't get the room we requested but changed the next day no problem. Room: we stayed in 5 for the second time, we had a view on the pool, we love the layout. Room was cleaned and turndown every single day/evening. Many evenings as we would get ready we would have little sweets delivered to us, we appreciated it so much. Restaurants: for breakfast and lunch we favoured Le Marché, firsts reasons, Alfonso, Xolchitl, Lorena and of course Norma that made my husbands pancake every morning. The service there was outstanding every single time. I say this because we went 4 times for lunch at Tar and Mare, I love VIM so much that it pains me to say that the service was bad, all 4 times, not even sure why, but even to get acknowledged with water would take forever. But that is the only complaint for my 14 days. We ate at the French, Mexican, Italian and Ginger. I think that people overlook the Mexican restaurant and that is too bad, because every dish is excellent! Jesus is outstanding! At the French: every time we went was exquisite but the last time we went someone knocked it out of the park, Jesus (another Jesus) seriously, attention to details and client satisfaction means everything to this gentleman. We also exchanged some loyalty points for a beautiful private romantic dinner, we will cherish this forever, thank you Erendira the lovely concierge that made it happen. Beach; well I am a beach girl, this was my favourite year ever, we saw dolphins a few times thanks to our friend Atoxtli who explained to us the best time to see them. Beached was cleaned every day. It was simply perfect. The best service at the beach was by far this year and that was thanks to Ezequiel, I mean I could hardly keep up!! All the bars were great, Don Miguel and its drink menu! Valentine Tonic and Imperial Martinis are a must. Go Team! Victor is a gem! What a great ambassador for the resort and Mexico. Thank you so much Valentin for taking such good care of us. We will be back. More>

My wife introduced me to Mexico 4 years ago. We stayed at the Hotel Catalonia, we were married at Ocean Coral and Turquesa and now I feel like we've found our home away from home. This place is hands down the best of the best. From the food to the service, all expectations were blown out of the water! Will be returning April 2017 after we settle into life with 2 children! Can't wait! Did I mention it's the best ever!?!? Ok. More>

We traveled to the Valentin with three other couples from Jan 29th to Feb 5th. We had a great experience from the start. The service was outstanding. The food went beyond our expectations, which were quite high after reading the reviews here. Antonio at the Martini bar is the BEST! Brenda at the lazy pool; amazing. Gilberto, our server at Mar y Tierra at breakfast; fantastic. Mary at Tamansari was a hoot! We ate at every a la carte restaurant except the Corner (extra $ for that one) and we did not have one meal that wasn't great. Our favorites were L'Olivo and L'Alsace. Try the mushroom risotto, you won't be disappointed! Our room was clean, comfortable and well stocked. My one complaint is they didn't replace the soap when we ran out in the shower but I'm sure if we'd asked it would not have been an issue. (We had brought one of our own with us just in case.) We are already saving for our return trip next year and hoping to see some familiar faces. The beach was beautiful but there was a red flag the entire time we were there. So we enjoyed the pools instead and it was fine. The Imperial Band was fantastic. We danced and sang along for all 5 nights that they played while we were there. The shows were ok but the band was where the entertainment stood out for us. **Note: If you're single and looking to mingle, this is not the resort for you.** More>
