Excellent Resort

The Valentin Imperial was a fantastic resort! The grounds were beautiful, beaches (mother nature cannot be controlled) were kept as nice as possible and the assortment of pools let us either relax or join in the party fun. The GO Team is full of energy and were very friendly and motivating. The variety of restaurants made each night an experience and I would give the food a 9 out of 10 rating. Breakfasts and lunches were also very good. Most of the the wait staff were excellent with a few who were very slow (one morning a grumpy waiter finally made it to our table to acknowledge us after 8 minutes of waiting and it wasn't even crowded). The rooms were perfect with the views from the balcony adding to the atmosphere of being in paradise. If we return to the area, we will be back at the Valentin Imperial!

Best resort if it's class

My partner and i spent 10 days between February 11 and 21, 2017. We have travelled extensively over the last 15 years in a wide range of resorts both in Mexico and across the Caribbean. This is the best resort we have experienced. Other reviews will attest to the quality of the food, attention to detail, exceptional service and the impressive botanical feel of the finely manicured grounds. While all these points make the resort most enjoyable, the following areas made the difference for us. The first is food preparation and attention to quality. The buffets are maintained in a very clean and air temperature controlled room away from outdoor creatures and intense heat. We felt very confident in the integrity of the food preparation and handling. The restaurant servers have clearly received good table training and make you feel that every dining experience (buffet or a la carte) is a special one. We went to every restaurant and found them all very good with varied menus and great plate presentations. We never left a restaurant hungry or unimpressed by something new and unique in the experience. Most restaurant have outdoor patios with great views to the gardens. The resort is quite large with the potential of over 1000 guests at any given time. We were there at peak time with the resort fully booked. The design of the resort is such that you really feel like you are at a private retreat. Never are you in a crowd or waiting for a table. Unless you want a crowd and more excitement, you can enjoy a peaceful time hearing only the soft music piped in across the resort interspersed with sounds of many varieties of birds. Finally, the other element that stood out for us was the staff's opinion of their work experience. We are always interested in connecting with employees on the resorts we attend to understand better their work experience and satisfaction with the resort as an employer. (This is the type of work I do). We spoke to many staff in a range of functions who all attested to having a good work experience. A number of them commented on having worked on other resorts and suggested this resort was a much better experience for them. One staff in particular ( Bryan of the entertainment crew) referred to the resort owners as a family and was very clear that his experience working at the resort was valued by management and that he felt very appreciated in the work he did. He compared his experience at other resorts which had not been very positive. I have spoken to countless staff from all the resorts we visited over the years and when given the space to honest, they are always candid about their work conditions. This resort offers a positive and respectful work environment for its employees. This was the most important element for us and the one that will have us return again. We have never chosen to visit the same resort twice to allow for variety but in this case, we signed up for the loyalty program and will be returning. This is in part for the enjoyment of our experience and mostly to support an organization that cares to give for its employees a great place to work. See you next year Valentine!

We went with a group of 20 and had an absolute blast! I would go back in a heart beat. The food, grounds and hospitality were top notch! If you choose to be entertained with the foam party and interactive games, the main pool is where the party was. If you want quiet, you can have that as well. It had the best of everything, and we utilized it all. I highly recommend this resort. Can't wait to return.

Second Visit Even Better!

This was the first time we have returned to a resort we had previously visited. We had such a great time last year at Valentin Imperial Maya that we decided to return and tryout the activities we missed the previously year. Upon our arrival we truly felt like we had returned to our vacation home. We were greeted by Jesus and checked in by Karen in no time and we got the room we were hoping for (Building 4, 3rd floor, King Bed). We met Blanca and Sonia who provided with our first refreshments while we got reacquainted with VIM. We went for lunch while we waited for our room to be available and we met another special person Fabio who was our waiter. Our Junior room was perfect and we noticed the upgrades they had made since our last visit (Bluetooth speakers above the bed, updated patio furniture and an updated patio door and screen). By participating in a number of activities we met the incredible GO team staff who work tirelessly from morning until late at night. At the Tequila tasting we met Bryan the Mayan and Lucy, Leo put us thorough our paces at the newly added pool biking and Lucy and Amelia took us on an very informative Chef Garden biking tour. We also joined in the Foam Party on Sunday and it is was a hoot. We found the food was even better than last year. We tried the Hibachi for the first time and loved it! Our other favorites were L' Alsace, L'Olivo and Tamansari. The staff at every restaurant were exceptional! This resort offers everything from quiet time on a large white sandy beach to swimming in a turquoise ocean. Leisurely strolls thru the immaculate grounds, spotting numerous bird species. Endless activities engineered by the Go Entertainment team. Top notch massage and relaxing spa. Buffets with different themes daily to finer dining at night. Ever changing nightly entertainment and numerous bar/lounge choices. Most importantly of all outstanding staff that truly make ones vacation even more memorable. A big Thank you to everyone at Valentin!!! We can't wait to return to our winter vacation home with our friends.

Our second trip and already planning our third

This was our second trip to the Valentin. Our first was a year and a half ago and only a week so this time we went for 10 days. We love it there and will be going back this year. I am late in posting this. We went from jan 11th- Jan 21st. Staff: This is where the Valentin excels! The staff are amazing. The ones that were there before remember you from previous stays and make you feel like you are coming home! Gilberto and Melina from Mar y Tierra were the first to welcome us back and made us feel at home! Xoxhitl at La Marche remembered us from our previous trips and always made us feel welcome and gave us hugs on our last day and told us to hurry back! I am drawing a blank on her name right now. She was our waitress at Ginger and remembered us from last time and we pulled up pictures of all of us from our last trip and laughed and talked like old friends. The bar staff is excellente! Our old friend Alfredo was happy to see us again and gave us all our favorite drinks with his signature smile! And last but not least our Cart driver and wonderful friend Gerardo! He always made sure we had everything we need. The entertainment staff is next level. Angel, Brian, Lucy (and now I can't remember the other ladies names!), were always there to get you involved and let you know what cool things they were doing! Sorry I forgot so many names. I waited to long to post! The Food: As always the food is excellent. We hit every restaurant this time with the exception of the corner. We did the French twice(my favorite) and the Italian twice(hubby's favorite). I heard one person complain about the food. Mainly because it was smaller portions. A tip for everyone who hasn't been there but has a big appetite: this is like a cruise. You want two appetizers and two entrees just ask. They have no issues giving it to you. You have one thing you like on the menu order two. The snack shack at the golden swim up area serves some yummy sandwiches. This area has seating for everyone, not just those staying at the swim up suites. You can find a covered or exposed chair, plop on down and enjoy the peace and quiet and have a waiter bring you a cocktail or food. The buffet lunches at both buffet restaurants are good. There is a daily small lunch buffet(burgers, dogs, tacos, ribs) changes daily and is ok. Bars: Top shelf liquor is server at all the bars. Think Grey Goose, Sapphire, Don Julia, Crown Royal and more. Not a lot of beer selections. The wines I had were decent. I am from the Northern Ca wine country area and could drink these. I didn't drink a lot of wine though since they had so many other wonderful drinks to try! Tip: Get a full glass of your favorite alcohol on your way back to your room and you can mix your own cocktails. The privilege package: A lot of people want to know about this. We did not do it our first time. It is pricey. What we found out our second time is that you don't have to do it for the whole trip, so we opted to do it for the minimum which is 3 days. I would probably do it again for the minimum. I would not do it for the entire stay unless you plan on not moving from the beach or pool area the entire stay, love having reservations for the restaurants(which I never felt necessary) or plan on eating lobster every night! What you do get is a few full sized bottles of premium booze off their list, (which you can take home with you), a reserved bed in the privileged area by the pool or on the beach(which is nice but we were able to find a couple of the covered loungers across from the bar and pool every day we didn't have the package), a beach bag, petite fours, a bottle of sparkling wine in your room, access to privileged lounge and private concierge, and if you have it the first or last 3 days you have early check in or late check out( they do have courtesy rooms which you can use to change and shower with hair dryers). Overall it was fun to have for a few days. Rooms: We have only stayed in the Emerald suites so we can't speak to the others but we love this suite. We have stayed in building 13 and 14. Both are excellent location as they are on the beach and close to the pool and Mar Y Tierra. Once you learn the area and short cuts it is a slow 7 min walk to the lobby and main restaurant area. The rooms have a large spa tub, stand alone shower and EXTRA large beds(bigger than a standard king). Also has a couch and table and chairs. Every room has mini fridge and a safe. The mini fridge is stocked daily and you can write a note to request what you want in it. The beach: The first trip it was September and the beach was nice. It is not the flat calm of the Caribbean sea. It has waves but totally swim-able. This time it was red flagged the whole time and the undertow was an issue. The week after we left was not as bad. I would say pick your dates carefully if the beach is a real important factor for you. They keep the area clean and the vendors are few and not pushy at all. Take advantage of the photo staff that comes around to offer a photo session. They do a great job. The pool: One of the best pools around. Not deep and not heated but we were there in the winter and could get in and enjoy it. There is not hot tub. Only thing I think they should add. There is two swim up bars and it is fun! The "lazy river" in the golden area is calm and peaceful little river where you can just float around and chill. Security: This place feels very safe but I will caution you to use your safe for all valuables and be sure that is locked before you leave your room. Check to be sure all the doors are closed and locked. We have decided we will opt out of turndown service on our next trips. We did have an issue while there. I will not go into details as the management did make it right which is why we are returning. I have heard some complaints about the management staff, but we had a good experience with them and found them to be responsive and understanding. They do want you to return and try to make any issue right as a large part of their business is return customers. If you read the reviews you will find many that have been there more than twice! We look forward to our next trip back home to the Valentin!
