Second time and TREMENDOUS

We are so glad we went back to the VIM. I've read about many people enjoying their return visits. I expected it to be as good as the first time but it truly was better. Much thanks to the entire staff working so hard to please the guests. New Years Eve party was controlled and organized. All restaurants had the same menu so I didn't expect much. The food for that evening was a pleasant surprise and very exquisite. Our issues were well taken care of by Fernando Can who did everything to make our second time fabulous. We miss the resort so much especially when we tell our friends about our stay. Can't wait to get back again.

Great experience!

My husband surprised me with a trip to this hotel with several of our friends. Although check-in was a bit timely, the service was top notch! Once we received our room, the door was not working. The staff eventually got us in and apologized for the inconvenience. Without asking, they upgraded us to an incredible room the next day. They treated us like royalty the entire time we were there! We paid for the "Privileged" package, which was worth the money. We enjoyed lobster at several of the terrific restaurants. The restaurants don't feel as though they are all-inclusive. It's a big hotel, so you we did some walking, but with the beautiful grounds, we didn't mind. We were sad to leave. I would definitely recommend!

Outstanding with one bad flaw

This resort has so much going for it: beautifully manicured ambience of lush tropical beauty, friendly staff that aim to make your stay utterly perfect in every way, first class food and drink especially at the two buffets for breakfast and lunch. Dinner, however has some problems. First, no casual options exist for dinner. Sometimes you feel like chilling and grabbing a sandwich at a buffet would be just fine, but that is too bad. You must dress up (3 different dress codes depending on the restaurant you choose) and go to a formal multi-course meal. Since they will not take reservations, if you don't go early (between 6:00 and 7:00) you will wait possibly an hour or more for the more popular restaurants like Italian and French and Mexican. (We had no wait time at Japanese or Indonesian restaurants) This means if you stay at the beach to enjoy all the daylight, then get cleaned up for dinner, you might arrive at a restaurant at 7:45, put your name on the list and wait around till 9:00 to finally be seated in a restaurant only to see that half its tables are empty (!) (more about this later), then by the time you finish your meal it is after 10:00 and all of the waiters are scurrying around putting things up for the night and your dining experience is less than optimal. To make matters worse, the evening entrees are, well, about a B-minus to C-minus. Appetizers, soups, salads are quite satisfactory, many are creative and outstanding, but main courses, meh. Mushy or overcooked, little innovation in flavoring and often bland. But here is the part that got to me: those long waits for tables for those dining after 7:00 were not necessary! Early diners are seated and the restaurants are mostly full, but when those people leave, the tables are not reset immediately and many remain unset for the rest of the evening while late diners are left to wait and wait and wait, when they could've been seated within 20-30 minutes. We saw this at each restaurant we went to, when we went late and when we went early, and when we spoke to the maitre d' (you have a very long wait list yet half of your tables are empty) we were told, no they were not empty, they were "not ready." This could so easily be fixed by hiring perhaps an additional person to reset tables, rather than punish late diners. In a further effort to coax guests to make it an early evening, all of the bars near the lodging buildings (and pools and beach) close at 5:00, with the sun high in the sky, long before sunset. You can still get a drink of course in the lobby/restaurant area, but you have to walk a very long distance to a bar that is open. And most of them are smack in the middle of those dressed for dinner so in a swimsuit and coverup you feel a bit underdressed. Not to mention that who wants to leave a pool or beach to walk 5-10 minutes to get a drink? In summary, the resort is outstanding and exemplary in so many ways - truly exceptional in the staff's desire to please - except the one area of evening meals. But that is kind of a biggie. It is a problem that should be pretty easy to fix, I wish the management would address it.

Girls trip in March

What a beautiful place! Pros: DORA the explorer, and Lucy were awesome! Such welcoming, fun loving spirits! Great drinks, good food, nice beach. Attentive, warm, friendly almost everywhere we went. French was our fave restaurant. Loved the wildlife! So fun to looks at all the critters everywhere! Pool was great! Cons: I was on a girls trip and very little privacy from rooms to bathrooms, hated that. Also, good luck getting double beds, very few here. It really was really a couples resort. LONG waits to dine, often times an hour? We missed all the shows because dining took an hour wait and two hours to eat, that got old. A buffet would have been well appreciated. Snorkeling in front of the hotel was a definite no go, rough and no where good to enter and they don't have any gear you can use. No karoyke! That was one of the reasons we chose this resort. I guess it's only Mondays and we were gone already.. The chair hoarding and saving is terrible, I was shocked. Could never get a seat though most chairs sat empty for hours and hours during the hottest time of the day. They need to put a stop to this! Long walks to everything, so easy to get lost! They needed more signage around the whole hotel. Will most definitely go back with my husband some day. What an amazing hotel!

I would highly recommend spending a vacation here - the longer the better. :) My husband and I have never been to an all-inclusive resort before, so we had no idea what to expect. The grounds were absolutely beautiful and extremely well-maintained. Our room was wonderful (we had a Jr. Swim Up Suite) and is well-worth updating to if you have a chance. It has a "lazy river" pool that you overlook. This is a very quiet area of the resort. There are rooms by the main pool, but the pool area is very busy and loud (yet totally fun!) If you are looking more more seclusion, the rooms by the lazy river pool are you best bet. The food was pretty good at all the restaurants, but be aware that they do adhere to the dress code pretty closely and turned men away that did not have shirts with a collar. I had a spa treatment and was treated like royalty. Everyone that worked in the resort were extremely nice and helpful. Our only snafu was that the first room they put us in was a handicapped room and did not have all the amenities that we would based our booking on. We asked to be moved and they accommodated us the very next morning. We cannot wait to go back!
