The vision and dream of respected hotelier Laurance S. Rockefeller. More than 37 years ago, he chose a patch of black lava in an inaccessible area, with two beautiful beaches, to create a work of art that changed the Big Island of Hawaii. Rockefeller envisioned a resort of world-class standards - complete with the hotels, golf courses and homes.

The first step was Mauna Kea Beach Hotel in 1965. In 1994, the second half of the dream was fulfilled with the opening of Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel. Steeped in Aloha, the classic elegance perpetuates the true Hawaiian traditions of the islands. And in June 2018, the hotel officially became The Westin Hapuna Beach Resort. The contemporary feel of Westin Hapuna Beach Hotel is manifested in its bold nature. Working together, these two distinct hotels comprise Mauna Kea Resort and create an outstanding experience.

All guestrooms are ocean-facing revealing the long inviting expanse of Hapuna Beach, each with spacious private balcony and double doors allowing for the trade winds to breeze through. Luxurious interiors are highlighted by a selection of natural materials, including rich woods and fine fabrics. The palette of chosen colors reinforces the sand, sea, and sunset environment afforded by the hotel's pre-eminent location.

The Westin Hapuna Beach Resort is situated on 32 oceanfront acres, nestled in natural bluffs overlooking the silky white sands of Hapuna Beach. Hapuna Golf Course features 18-holes of Scottish links-style championship golf designed by Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay. Taking advantage of the dramatic natural contours of the land from the shoreline to 700 feet above sea level, it offers spectacular views of the Kohala Coast and Pacific Ocean while majestic Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa and the Kohala Mountains form the backdrop.

In ancient times on the resort site, freshwater springs bubbled to the surface during heavy rainfall. These artesian fountains provided respite and renewal for travelers along the Kohala Coast. Thus the area was named "Hapuna" or "Spring of Life" in the Hawaiian language. This depiction of water became the symbol for the The Westin Hapuna Beach Resort.

Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel--a wonderful get-away
GLENDA S.

If you want to stay at a beautiful beach resort on the Big Island of Hawaii, this is the place. The resort is off the beaten path, so it is away from the main attractions. That can be both a plus and a minus. We found it to be a plus.

We came to the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel for our honeymoon, first time Hawaii visitors. This was the perfect choice. The hotel is wonderful along with its staff. The beach is amazing, and the general feel of everything at this hotel is just perfect. The pictures of this place do not do it justice. I would HIGHLY recommend this hotel, and pretty much just Hawaii to everyone.

What a slice of heaven, staying a week will not be enough the beach is the best and all so close to the pools and our room We enjoy listening to the surf at night We have a high room with a patio and a view looking back toward Kona which oh would recommend. We went to the grocery store for some refreshments and light snack for the room, just so we weren't dependent on the on property restaurants

Fabulous Staff

Hubby & I stayed Nov of 18. Two employees had a huge impact on our great experience . Ginger from the restaurant & Luana from the front desk. These woman went above & beyond to make our stay memorable. They always greeted us with huge smiles, exceptional personalities, professionalism & a willingness to make us happy. Kudos to Westin for employing these gems!! People like them are part of our great memories from our trip to Kona, Hawaii. XXOO Ladies

We normal stay in condo's or any place with a kitchen, and washer and dryer. This time we decided to treat ourselves to a resort stay. This place has a dramatic wow factor as soon as you walk through the entrance. The lobby is wide open, and overlooks the sea. We arrived at 11:00AM to see if there was any possibility of checking in before 3:00. The genuinely friendly woman at the desk, said we were in luck and that our room was available. We were not offered bell service for our bags, and directed to the south side for parking. The resort parking is in a multi-level garage, with elevators. From the parking garage we took an elevator to the 8th floor, and then walked from the South side to the North side through the main lobby, and to elevators on that side. We were initially on the 9th floor, as far North as you can be placed. This was a good long walk from both the car, and the main section of the resort. The room was very nice with an extra large bathroom with two sinks. The lanai had both a bar height table and chairs, as well as a super comfy wide enough for two daybed lounger. There were Plantation style shutters on the sliding doors, and the room also had a small seating area, and a coffee area with small fridge. This room was purchased as an oceanfront king. It was oceanfront, as I believe most of the rooms are regardless if you are in the South or North side rooms. Depending on your room location you will have a varying view of the ocean, beach, restaurants and pool. However on the North side there is construction in progress that apparently is not part of the Westin. This construction project is right in front of the rooms on the North side, and looks like it was once part of the resort. The construction noise was an issue immediately. Sounds of workers shouting to each other, backhoe beeping, and jack hammering from 9:00 to 5:00 Monday though Saturday. It looks like they have a long way to go before this is ever completed so I wouldn’t recommend the Westin to anyone at this time. I spoke to a manager the next morning after we checked in and she informed us that this work was being done by a private contractor, and they had no control over the noise. She offered to move us closer to the main portion of the resort if we could wait a few days, and gave us vouchers for breakfast for our entire length of stay. She had also offered to reimburse us for beach fees at the Mauna Kea if we wanted to spend our days there. We were moved to the 8th floor, and closer in (not so far to walk), but it didn’t lesson the noise at all. In fact the noise can be heard at the pool, and at the beach. That was a big negative, along with some pretty strong wind we got for most of our stay. However, every staff person we came in contact with was amazing. We were greeted by name in a lot of cases, and we liked that there didn’t seem to be a crowd of people at the pool, restaurants, lobby, hallways, or the beach. Not sure if this was due to the construction noise, or if it was the design of the resort. There wasn’t enough dining options, and what existed was pricey. There didn’t seem to be any stated pool hours, which we have never seen before. Depending on your rooms location to the pool this might be an issue, but we can appreciate the resort allowing midnight swims if you’re so inclined. You’re on vacation after all!

As everyone has said, the grounds and rooms are awesome. Every room has partial ocean view. If using a car i suggest south tower, much closer to garage. Also, i would confirm but as of Jan 1-8 I didn't hear any construction noise and spent a lot of time at the pool. I heard that they might have started doing construction inside and therefore cannot be heard.

Stunning hotel, sadly ruined by noise

didn’t realise my review hadn’t been submitted, Hope the construction has eased..... doubtful. This is one of the most beautiful hotels we have stayed in. It would have 5 plus stars easily if we weren’t so disappointed by the noise. If you are out all day 8-5 it will not bother you. The hotel itself is stunning, staff superb, beach glorious and pools glorious, views from some rooms breathtaking, it north tower as they over look the building site. The construction is not just the on going jackhammers, concrete trucks and incessant beeping from revering trucks. The site is massive and is partitioned off and adjoins the main hotel, you can tell this as there are signs to keep out etc., on hotel temporary walls. From the lower pool it is impossible to hold a conversation, that said the beach and sea are stunning. Disappointed BUT when it’s all DEFINITELY finishes (12 months) we will retirn
