Nice rooms

The rooms were nice and all of the staff was great. Food does get old, but over all the resort was good. The beach was rocky and l was expecting it but there are parts that are almost unusable! It was shallow and rocky for 25 feet on the north end of the beach, the southern end is much better, however still not a great beach. I would not call this a good wading beach. North of the beach area there are man made reefs that have lots of fish to look at and was nice for snorkeling. Had a good time but probably will go somewhere with a better beach when we return. My wife and I were a little leary at first having spent vacations at large 5 star reorts, but after our first day in this small personable and very tropical resort we fell in love with the excellent staff, the service and the abundance of good food and drinks. The villas of rooms are reminscent of upscale carribbean locations. We weren't required to wear bracelets, no pool towel card restrictions and no reservations for any restaurants. But I have to say the entertainment staff and service personnel were top-notch! My hat goes of to Oascar, Abril,Nue and Alexis for an amazing job of not only remembering everyone's names but enticing us to participate in all the fantastic poolside activities and nightly shows and the best resort rock concert We have ever seen. We will most definitely return. Keep up the great work! More>

My husband and I were so impressed with this resort. The staff goes above and beyond- from the manager down to the maids. We stayed in room 3524- a large suite with an outdoor hot-tub over looking a pool with ocean view. The maids always had our room looking impeccable, restocking our mini bar every day. True, the room could use some updating, but it was VERY clean. The one single thing that would possibly stop us from returning was simply the bed was very hard on my husbands back. (Could be solved by even a thicker pillow top mattress cover- easy fix) That being said, staff was working almost 24/7 repainting the exterior, the boulevard, on their hands and knees making sure everything was as perfect as could be. They were not disruptive, and unless you saw them you wouldn't have know they were there. Carlos was a wonderfully patient bell boy, Apole Vacation reps Salvador and Ricardo were so helpful booking tours for us, and every person from the maids to the servers were attentive. We are breakfast at The Market Place buffet (adults only) every morning- great omlets, excellent service. El Patio has the best Mexican food I've had (almost ever) and you have to try their Mexican coffee with a shot of tequila:) I wasn't fond of the pizza at the pizza place (I heard other ppl who loved it, though) and Portofino was decent dinner buffet- although I preferred the Market place even for dinner. Beach was great- there was always open chairs, hammocks and beds. Overall, I would recommend this to anyone. For half the price of Sandals, it is hands down a winner! More>

Worth It!

I've never been on an all-inclusive vacation before. Hell, I've never even been to Mexico. So if you're like me, then read on. Forget all the other reviews on here that seem to be overly critical of the place, I really loved it and I'd go back. First, when we arrived the bellmen helped us out of the car and even provided us with a welcome drink. It was a little windy the day we checked in but it was still beautiful. There isn't anything about this place that I would really change. The grounds were kept up decently and the rooms were decent. Sure, were they in the most pristine of conditions? No. You're not paying for first-class accommodations PLUS you're in an environment of nothing but humidity, which does wreck havoc on somethings. But the bed was clean, the shower was AMAZING (except that it didn't have a door which meant a little excess water getting into the bathroom area), they had a fridge with several cokes, beers, and bottles of water, and an air-conditioner if you so desired. As far as the food goes, I was there for 7 days and I wondered if I would get tired of it - as the options seemed limited. This wasn't the case at all. The food was always plentiful, always available, and differed. Plus when you got tired of one thing you could go to a different area. But you could literally have food and drinks, an unlimited amount, 24/7. Is it again first-class top-of-the-line food? No. But, it was still very good and the staff took care of you (We think Market Cafe has the best lunches, although if you're in the mood for pizza and want the best view check out their pizza place)! The resort also had activities going on all the time. From Bingo games, to dancing, to a fire show, they seemed to try to make an environment of fun. At night, they would allow usually two local vendors to come in and setup shop so you could buy things, if you wanted. Never did I feel pressured nor was I offered any sales presentations. One thing worth noting is that there wasn't really any wifi. They did have wifi in their lobby but it wasn't the greatest/most reliable. Now, I didn't care because I didn't go on vacation to stay in touch with the rest of the world. You can also buy wifi, which is what one of my friends did, and that seemed to work out decently enough but if that's a deal breaker than that might be worth considering. But if wifi is a deal breaker for you, you should reconsider going on vacation in the first place. Anyways, in the end this place was a great first experience to all inclusives. It was worth the price and I'd go again! More>

Just can't have enough of this place! Nice snorkeling spot and beach, awesome ocean views, beautifully renovated rooms, delicious food, loved the Italian restaurant and it's gorgeous romantic dinner spot, we specifically enjoyed the fire show at the beach and our favorite ever: the Prehispanic show! Entertainment was good my boyfriend had lots of fun doing their dance moves and playing their games. Liked the assortment of tours offered by Salvador Balam (Apple's rep.) who recommended us an awesome tour and we want to do it again! He was very helpful also when we needed a better room etc. Alejandra and most of the restaurant staff are nice and friendly, we were Rolando's guests for a special dinner and we just can't thank him enough muchas gracias Rolando you're the best! We also want to thank the maintenance crew as they do a good job keeping the restrooms, pools and grounds nice and clean for all of us. Awesome service at the spa and everywhere in the resort, love relaxing and being in this beautiful place that is waiting for all of us to visit and enjoy! Hope to be there once again...! More>
