Getaway with our college kids
Laurarhodes74, Huffman, Texas
Wed Aug 24 18:12:30 EDT 2016
We just arrived home from beautiful Cozumel. The reason I rated this a very good is because of the majority of the staff. They work hard and deserve to be recognized. We have been to Mexico many times and this was our 3rd year in a row to coz. We love it there and we go for the beauty and the people of the island. Well this year we went on a tighter budget as we have 2 kids in college, one of which is at A&M so we have a lot of expenses. I picked sunscape for the value and location. We have stayed at iberostar (which we live but wanted to try something different) the last two years. I like the remote smaller resorts so sunscape seemed to fit. So with that all being said here is my review. The things people normally complain about air conditioning, food and beds! It's Mexico people it's all the same for the most part at all the resorts. Especially if you are looking for value. My feelings on that. Air conditioners work differs there, the beds are not as comfortable as yours at home and you can normally find something you like to eat. No reason to even go there again it's Mexico enjoy the beauty and eat a slice of pizza!! My only real complaint about sunscape was the front desk!! Yep HORRIBLE!! Check in went pretty normal. We went to our tropical view room which was basically a view of grass that needed to be mowed (it was mowed by the time we left btw) I went back up and told them I really was not happy there and could I possibly get an upgrade. Sandra (she was actually very nice and deserves a good review) obliged but I did pay for the upgrade and we couldn't move to the next day at 3. Which was fine (again I'm in Mexico and trying to be happy!)) so on to why the front desk made me unhappy. We rented a car from offsite. The guy wanted to be paid in pesos. I went to the desk to exchange and was told I would have to wait behind everyone that was checking in to be helped!! Ok I'm already a guest and needed a service but was told to wait in line (which could've been an hour). I looked at everyone in desperation and NO ONE would help. A lady from the timeshare Vip services actually pulled her pockets out and said "what do you want me to do" in a way that felt belittling. I really feel as if they need a concierge service for guest. But they only want to help you if you are buying timeshare or spa services etc. when we checked out today they had us do a survey. I told them about how I feel the front desk needed to be more helpful and the guy pretty much stopped talking to me. Why have me fill out a survey of you don't want to know how I feel!! Ok so with that here are the amazing things!! Did I mention it's Mexico and beautiful!! The housekeeping, maintenance waitstaff bartenders work so hard. They make you feel so special and they are the reason I can never completely hate a resort. They work HARD!!! I wish I could list them all but here is a very long list of those that went over and beyond for our family:) Angel (Tortuga) Chelsea (housekeeping) Ishmael (portifina) Carlos & Juan Carlos (bell boys) Mari, Brandon, noe (entertainment) Chelsea (housekeeper) Alejandro Raul Brisa Azaid Veronica Wilbreth (starlight lounge) Jesus Santos Mario pedilla I'm sure there are many many others. Please remember that these people work very hard and they depend on us to feed their families. So with all of that our trip was amazing and worth even the pain of the front desk. It was a little hurdle but something that should be took into consideration. Till we meet again Cozumel!!:))) More>

Juan Carlos is THE BEST!

My husband and I recently traveled to Cozumel and stayed at the Sunscape Sabor. This was a last minute trip for us and we were meeting a group of other people who had their rooms reserved already. Juan Carlos was instrumental in obtaining us very nice rooms all together. He had our bags in our room, waiting for us, which was very much appreciated. We were very happy with the room and especially its location. Everything was clean, and well taken care of. The area was beautiful. I loved the beach and all it had to offer. We took advantage of the fun water aerobics with April and enjoyed the Caribbean night show and buffet. The drinks were very good with top shelf brands. I would definitely go back. More>

Enjoyed our trip.

We had a wonderful vacation. The service and food were outstanding. I would recommend this to anyone traveling to Cozumel. We had two special waiters there Max and Luis. Will definitely stay there again soon. The poolside and beach bars offered great drinks. The entertainment and music was nice. More>

Right Price for a Family Vacation
Jill K, Superior, WI
Mon Aug 22 17:22:52 EDT 2016
We visited Sunscape in August 2016. The price was right for a family of 4 (we even got two rooms because my oldest son is 18 and he and his brother could have their own room - this was a GREAT decision!) ;). This is the third time we have stayed at an AM Resort because we love the no towel card, no reservation, and no wrist band policies (We've stayed at Dreams-Tulum and Secrets-Huatulco). This is the first time we took the kids. Here is the good and the not so good: Good: Food was acceptable for an all-inclusive. We especially liked the seaside grill where the kids could order al a carte burgers, quesadillas, etc. all day long. The breakfast buffet was delicious and probably the best food on the resort. I have found that this is typical of many all-inclusive resorts. Rooms have shower gel, soap, shampoo, and separate conditioner which I always find important when swimming in pools and oceans all day long. The containers are 4 oz size which is very big for hotel toiletries. And, the conditioner is a good quality for getting the tangles out! The AC worked great! It was very hot and humid when we were there, so having good quality AC was important. The beds were very comfortable. Good pillows, good sheets, breathable comforter. They have high quality toilet paper. You may laugh, but this is important for a week long trip. I think it may even be Cottonelle! haha! The employees were exceptionally friendly and helpful. We could use snorkeling equipment every day for two hours per day free of charge. We could snorkel right off of the shore - which was perfect for my kids who were first time snorkelers. The water was very calm. If the resort was out of equipment, then you could walk next door to Secrets resort and use their equipment. We did a fishing excursion - the boys caught two barracuda and two mahi-mahi. It is rough water out there - so if you get sea sick - pick a different activity! But we had fun and the price was reasonable ($375 for 5 hours - private boat). We could book right at the Secrets resort and probably right at Sunscape as well (in the water sports area). Beach area was great - lots of chairs, lots of shade options, lots of bar options. You could go for longs walks along the beach if you chose to. However, it was very rocky going into the water from all of the coral. The resort cleared a couple of pathways so you could walk in without stubbing your toes, but otherwise - I highly recommend water shoes. The positive is that this makes for very nice snorkeling if you like to stay shallow and are giving your kids a first time snorkeling experience. TONS of fish to see (even rays, sea urchins, lobster, and starfish)! We say all of those right from shore - for "free!" The Not so good: The rooms were older and not in the best condition, but the beds were comfortable and the AC worked. Still, I expected better from the AM Resort chain. Housekeeping did not refill the mini-fridges which was frustrating. And we never received the daily schedule under our door. We could easily walk to the pool to find out what was happening that day, but I miss not getting the daily report in the morning. The coffee in the rooms was BAD. The coffee in the restaurants, however, was good. I love having coffee on the balcony in the morning, but couldn't do it here because it was poor and they only had the powdered creamer in the room. Overall, this is a great value for a family resort. There is lots of kids programming and pool activities. There is a quiet pool up top and a louder, larger pool with the activities down below. So you can escape the craziness if you'd like. Everything is very walkable and everyone is very friendly. The drinks are fine. They have many choices of liquor - you just have to ask for the higher end varieties - they are all right there for you. Thank you AM Resorts. Even thought this was my least favorite of the ones I've visited, I'll still definitely be checking out some of your other resorts in other locations! Keep up the no towel card, no reservation, no wrist band policies. That's what keeps us coming back! More>

Not impressed, that side was an ok beach area which is beautiful but bring water shoes. Food was not good, hot dogs, hamburgers and blah nachos. Drinks not strong but we decided to just make the most of it since we were there and it was still nice because Cozumel is beautiful but the resort came short of its promises. More>
