Sandos Finesterra - Thanksgiving
llafave, arizona
Wed Jun 20 11:25:31 EDT 2018
My husband and I went here for our anniversary around Thanksgiving. We have been to Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta, and Aruba to compare. The resort was very well maintained, friendly workers, and good food. We stayed in the Finesterra Suites that look over the marina and had a hot tub in the room. That also allowed us to use the private pool. The private pool was nice and quiet, bartender awesome (food selection was exactly the same as room service) but pool temp extemely cold! Nice place to hang out though and good view. The room was very clean, the view was awesome. With our room selection it was nice because we were a very short walk to the buffet and the private pool. We chose this room because 1. it had a hot tub in the room and 2. since the other rooms are set back from the ocean this would give us a better view. As great as the employees, views, cleanliness, food/drinks and location were, we will not be returning to Sandos. 1. the hot tub in the room, 1/2 the time would run Brown water. Kind of a waste for us, never knowing what would be coming out of the faucet - and trust me, you're going to need a hot tub because..... 2. OMG what a work out! I work out at home 4x a week on a treadmill among other things and I am not out of shape by any means. There is so much walking, so many stairs, just to get to your room, which probably would have been totally fine,,,until you walk down to the main street to get to the marina/town. This is a VERY steep hill down & back to walk up. No problem the first day, but the 2nd day hurt, and the third day, well, glad we were on a booze cruz to make it back up that hill. Seriously, it became so bad that after dinner every night we would stick our legs in the hot tub by the pool just to work those muscles out! (Couldn't trust the water in our hot tub in the room). Someone said they use to have shuttles to up and down to the bottom of the property, if they did that again,,,I would consider going back! Funny thing is our room overlooked the marina and the walk down to it, and we could tell who's making the trip down on their first day, compared to being here several,,,the walk seemed to catch up with everyone's lower legs! 3.The beach. I live in AZ and have a pool at home so i normally go on vaca for the beach. I knew you couldn't swim at this location but was ok with that since i could still sit and listen to the waves. What they don't tell you is that there is a huge sand hill to go down to actually touch the water, or be near it. (At least when we were there) After all the other walking and leg pain, i didn't even attempt to go down there. We did however sit on the beach (before the hill) for a few hours and not once did anyone ask us if they could bring us a drink. So, more walking to get a drink or two, that was enough, we went back to the pool area. The middle pool - awesome, warm and fun. They keep you entertained, and i can not compare to other resorts i have gone to because as I said, I prefer the beach. Maybe this is normal, or maybe they keep you busy because they know it's your only option. (There are 2 other large pools you can go sit around if you want it quieter though). A young lady named America was Awesome in the entertainment team. She should get a raise! - so personal & friendly!! Also, the pizza hut right below the second pool did a good job as well, I was really wanting shrimp so they made me a shrimp pizza lol! And of course the band of employees that come around with shots was an awesome idea. All this being said, it's a great place, clean, good food, fun pool area, and conveniently located to the town/marina. But I prefer the beach and shuttle service! Keeping the beach and walking in mind - You will still have an awesome vacation here if you choose to stay at Sandos Finisterra. I wouldn't spend extra for the hot tub in the room though.

Beautiful view from every single room!!

This place is the bomb! We had the best time and made some pretty awesome memories here. The staff was super friendly and the food was delicious. You can't swim in the ocean on this side because of the under toe - but what a beauty!!! Well worth a visit!!! Look for a special as the rates are super high!!

This was another girls trip that I took with my Bestie by using a timeshare that I had. The hotel was gorgeous first off and being built of the side of a mountain gave it that wonderful traditional look. Security was great! The food was awesome. I had never had refried beans and eggs but they are delicious together. We sat in on a presentation and received $200 cash and two tickets for a boatride which was very nice. This trip was great and I can't wait to return.

We had a fantastic time! Our initial room had a horrible view but we were moved to one with an amazing view of the.marina. The two most helpful people were Jesus Garcia our bartender and Jesus Medrano! Kudos to them! We will definitely be coming back!

We went there for a week as part of a family spring trip, we enjoyed everything that this resort had to offer, but we do have our personal opinion about 2-3 things. We were bumped out when they told us we could not get into the sea to swim, I mean nice view but can´t swim?.... anyways the service in general is great, from the room, to the restaurants and on. Our favorite restaurant was the Italian, every dish is so yummy!, our least favorite was agave, like it´s very slippery because people can just go inside wet and all. We don´t drink much, but we surelly enjoyed the dirty monkeys. The areas looked pretty clean while we stayed there, people were always cleaning and helpfull. We are those kind of families that like to sit and enjoy, instead of doing the activities, but we always try the kids club at the resorts, it was sad to know that there was a girl named Alexia that was great with the kids, wanted to meet her, we have friends that took their kids with her, they gave us good refferences about her work, beside her being tall and slim and wears glasses. Then we found out that the hotel was being run by a Begium woman named Nicky, and congrats to her, most of them are men and spanish,,, but she has done a great job as a lider. The only thing I would improve more is the food at the buffet and the night shows.
