So close to 5....but 4 is still really good

My wife and I spent the week (9/26-10/3). PRO'S: Property location ( close to town), property grounds, very friendly staff, views from property, cleanliness, and value. CON'S: Beach (no swimming) , beds (sheets of plywood are softer), air conditioner was super noisy, Room service (Cold and half cooked), and food (good, not great) Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and may stay here again. It is truly just a few things way from a 5 rating. I would send friends or family to stay here, so there's that. Side note...Cold bottled water at the entrance gate and lobby would be a nice thing for walks into town and back up to property. It was really hot and that would have been a great thing to have. Small gestures leave big impressions. More>

Honeymoon at the Sandos Finisterra Los Cabos

What a pleasure it was to spend part of our honeymoon at the Sandos Finisterra Los Cabos. We stayed for a week in May 2015 - Wow, that was 5 months ago! Can't believe it's taken so long to write this but here we go I'd let them know it was our honeymoon before we left home and I thought they might do something nice for us but we were blown away with our arrival - Behind reception was a beautiful single red rose stem, in the room there were chocolate covered strawberries and champagne chilling, but most importantly we'd been upgraded from the Pacific facing main block of the hotel to the Marina facing block above the excellent cupcake cafe. The views in both directions were great but the Marina / Lands End Rock views made it extra special and different to the normal pool / restaurant / beach views you get at most hotels. The room was well appointed and clean, with good (but not whisper quiet) air con and a nice sized balcony. Bed was comfy and the shower was powerful with endless hot water. Some reviews have complained that there is a water cooler in the room rather than bottles in the mini-bar. I found this to be no problem whatsoever, all you do it save 2 empty water bottles from the plane / transfer etc and fill the bottles from the cooler and keep them in the fridge, this is much more environmentally friendly and as it's probably cheaper for the hotel it allows them to spend the savings somewhere else. All the staff were all really friendly to us so it seems bad to highlight one or two people but Ish the VIP Pool Butler and Carmen the breakfast hostess were especially lovely and welcoming. I got a splinter from a sea creature on the beach one day and as my wife and the duty first aider could not get it out with our tweezers I visited the doctors service that it available in the hotel, she was very friendly and dealt with it very quickly and professionally, being from the UK (so have access to free healthcare) I suppose I was slightly gutted that I had to spend $100 on getting a splinter out but in the grand scheme of things it wasn't a lot of money and it was sorted out very quickly allowing us to get on with enjoying our holiday. As the hotel is located right on the Marina it's easy to go get a Water Taxi to see the Arch or take a wander past the bars and restaurants of the Marina but to be honest the food and bars in the hotel are so nice that there really isn't much need to go out unless you want to party beyond 2am. There are at least 3 "classes" of guests at the hotel so some things can be a little confusing. There are all the standard guests that wear one colour of wristbands who seem to be all staying in the main building facing the sea. As we got the upgrade, we were in the middle group that allowed us to use the VIP Pool and the bar that goes with it, it has Marina views and is lovely and quiet, the loungers are a definite upgrade from the standard ones and were really really comfy. Finally you have the "Elite" guests who can use the VIP Pool on the marina side but who also have loads of reserved cabanas around all the other pools and a dedicated lunch restaurant and area on the beach. This restaurant was so quiet throughout our stay it seemed a shame that it wasn't available to the rest of us during the day but I guess that is the point, personally I don't really enjoy being the only people eating in a restaurant or drinking in a bar. The pools were nice and as there were 4 it was pretty easy to get what you want; a kids pool, a warmer kid-free party pool with the swim up bar, and the quiet VIP Pool. There was quite a bit of renovation work going on while we were there so some mornings at the VIP Pool weren't quite as peaceful as they might have been but I'm sure the new amenities above the stones club & Whale watching bar will be awesome when they are finished, there is quite a lot of work going on all over Cabo so I would recommend checking with any hotel if any work is scheduled before you book. It's impossible to get to Cabo from the UK without a change in an American city so it's more complicated than booking a regular UK to Cancun package tour but it was definitely worth it. We had booked return flights to San Francisco from the UK and then used Apple Vacations to book the Flight, Transfers, and Hotel. We've been to the Yucatan side of Mexico on many occasions so it was great to try out somewhere new, it's impossible to say which I like more as they are quite different but I can definitely say that we will return to Cabo and the Sandos at some point, maybe an anniversary! Well lets start with booking. We are Royal Elite and when we arrived they did not have our booking. Apparently we were supposed to arrive 3 days earlier...so our room was not ready. We totally blame Royal Elite lucky for us we had a hard copy of the reservation so they scrambled to get a room ready. Not really sure why, if the hotel was only at 30% I think there should have been a room available . Rodrigo did everything he could to help us but we were hot and tired from travelling and did not want to sit in a restaurant and eat while they made up our room. Bad start. Rodrigo did however promise us also a treat in our room for our 35th Wedding Aniversary which never did come after 3 times he had left it up to staff to bring it to us. Then before we left he said he would get us a bottle of tequila which again never showed up. He was very kind and could not have asked for anyone nicer. Food in the Don Diego was just ok most of the time. Breakfast was cold other than the eggs. Dinner a few times was really good...hit and miss. The Italian was Great, the steak house was also very good. Really not happy the the Royal Elite which is what we paid for restaurant was not open. I realize it was the down season but they should have told us that when we booked. So that left only two and the buffet. The pools were awesome, enjoyed them very much until the elite pool had many kids in it and they was more than one accident. We told one of the staff but nothing was done, so then we told Iszmal he was going to handle it. We ran into another staff and showed him that night. They closed the pool, but did not get it all. We never returned to the pool. Iszmal was fantastic and it ruined our stay not being able to enjoy his company. We met alot of very nice people at the resort . The shows at night were also very good, the entertainers had to work on a very small stag and they pulled it off night after night. The beach dinner was the highlight of the trip. Very good food and entertainment...they should always have one of those at every Sandos. So we just want to put the word out that Alan, Gabby, Iszmal...sorry forgot the gals name at the Don Diego she was also very good. I think this Hotel is still a great place in spite of our problems...the locations was the best. 10 minute walk to the Marina where there was lots going on. We will vist Cabo again. More>

We just returned from a week stay (Sept 23rd-30th) and had a wonderful time. We are already planning a return trip here next year. 1st off couple not so bright spots: 1. Breakfast and dinner buffet and Don Diego was only ok. (We both had weight loss surgery so are already very picky) You can find stuff to choose from but the quality is so so. 2. The DJ at the Stones nightclub was not very nice to my wife on one of the karaoke nights. We were setting the tone of the night with and limited amount of people and was kind of rude. OK with the not so good out of the way on to the great: 1. Service on arrival was amazing. The bellhop was incredible and always had good tips on places to go and see. 2. All the staff were some of the best we have experienced and we made sure they were tipped well. There was even Ramon who was at the Riu Santa Fe the last time we were in Cabo and remembered us. 3. Room was nice and roomy. Great king size bed, great view of the pools and the ocean. Great view of the lunar eclipse. 4. Pools were fun. 5. Location was wonderful. Easy walking distance to anything around the marina. 6. The Ala carte restaurants were extremely good, more than made up for the buffets. The lunch at the pool had amazing fish and shrimp tacos. Steak house and Italian were great. 7. Great 24 room swrvice. Bottom line great place, amazing service and location, food can go both ways, and super comfy rooms view great views. Will be back in a year for sure. More>
