Honeymoon in Vallarta
May 01 2018
My wife and I went on our honeymoon after 26 years of marriage. We had a good time in Vallarta and enjoyed the nice weather, beach, pools , food and the hotel staff. I would recommend this for anyone who needs to get away from the winter blah and enjoy some all around good times.

Hotel Overbooked
Mar 27 2018
We had some issues, we booked ocean view rooms, but had to have a standard rooms the first night, then be switched to the ocean view we booked. At first the hotel wanted to switch us to the Pacifico, which is not what we wanted, so wasted time the first day and part of the second day dealing with the changes.

Nice hotel. All inclusive. Food was fair in the buffet restaurant, as most buffet restaurants are, so we weren't surprised. Food was better in the sit down restaurants. Our room had a musty smell when we walked in, but got better after we opened up the patio door. Bar service was excellent. As a matter of fact, ALL service people were friendly, and accommodating. Hotel was very clean, and it was easy to see that much energy was spent on cleaning, and appearances. Beach area could have been policed a little better. Cigarette butts all over the place. Nighttime music was good, but would have like some more easier listening, or softer music, as it went later in to the night. Overall, good thoughout the resort, however.

Pool and beach bar tenders were sometimes happy and sometime not. We were told reservations were not needed for specialty restaurants but were turned away from one that had plenty of open tables. However we really do like this hotel and will go back.

Very Welcoming

We have stayed at this Hotel previously. We loved it then and were pleasantly surprised that many things stayed the same if not improved. Love this hotel.

In need of a remodel
Feb 22 2018
The hotel is in need of a remodel. The rooms are musty smelling and the beds are not comfortable at all. The pillows are so tiny, almost travel size type pillows. A large chunk of concrete fell off the edge of the pool deck while we were there and maintenance quickly put on a temporary patch. Poolside and beach are very crowded and literally impossible to find open chairs unless you reserve them by 6 am. Food was average and dinner restaurants fill quickly if you aren’t in line 1/2 hour before they open.

Another fabulous week at the RIU Vallarta
Feb 10 2018
This was our second visit to the RIU Vallarta. We chose to go back because we had such a great time last year. Again this year was wonderful, we upgraded to a suite this year and it was well worth it. The room was beautiful and the location was perfect for us. From the time we arrived until we left the staff could not do enough for us. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. Yes it is a little older but that is what makes it so charming. I love the old world look instead of all the modern stuff out there. I have heard that a refurb is planned for 2019 I can only hope they keep some of the charm. We are already planning on going back next year! Thank you for a great week!!!

the food at the buffets often continues to be cold to tepid. The linens in our room were old and threadbare. The pillows were so lumpy they felt like bags of rags. I also thought the overall quality of the food was below our previous visits

Beautiful destination
Jan 24 2018
What a beautiful facility. The building is in timeless art deco and so tastefully done. So many great places to eat and drink. Two seperate pools and the kids pool never got noisy. The beach and seating on the beach might be the best I've ever seen. perfect combination of palm tree shade and sun. Beach volleyball all the time. Flamingo bar and restaurant right on the beach open all day. I've been to Puerto Vallarta multiple times and this has been the best hotel we've seen. You will not be disappointed!

The overall rating is very good. Just a few small items: the beds are VERY HARD, the food it just so so, and the resort DOES NOT exchange currency. I would have known that if I would have read better. Regardless, the staff was super, very nice and most could speak English with the rest trying hard. I heard the other RIU down the beach had better food, but Lunch was the only meal we could partake in with our gray wristbands.

2 star Hotel

I give 2 stars to this hotel for 2 main reasons: * 1 star for the staff who is doing all their best to make your stay enjoyable as much as they can, in the restaurants, the activities team. * 1 star i give to the amenities, and the food. Other than this, this can't be a 5 star hotel as advertised, the Hotel is old and need a lot of maintenance, our booking was for 2 adjoining rooms as advertised, one room for 2 and the other for 3, we found out that our rooms are 10 rooms apart, one room has ceiling leak, when I spoke to the front desk they were able to move us to a different floor with 2 rooms adjacent to each other but not joined, the 2 rooms were with 1 king size bed each which doesn't fit 3 persons, when I told them they said they will send us an additional bed, we accepted since this was the only option, the bed never came and i had to sleep on the sofa couch which is not sofa set which was terrible, the second day I went to the reception desk multiple times until they brought the extra bed. Then the air condition stopped working, they send a technician who figured out the problem is not in the AC but in the balcony door sensor, a sensor that when disconnected - by opening the balcony door, the AC stop working (I'm an architect and have never seen this before anywhere in the world), anyway problem was solved, the next day the Jaccuzi that was in the room terrace, had a faucet that started leaking (this is supposed to be the best room in the hotel as per the front desk say), they sent a maintenance guy to fix it but we were never able to use it again. Long story short, we managed to enjoy out time there but this hotel is not worth the money. Find somewhere else.

This Hotel was amazing and had everything on site. Multiple bars ( including a swim up bar in the pool) and restaurants. There was also different themes and events every night to add to the place. The staff where really fun and friendly too.

I want to start my review by telling you that most of the staff members of this resort are hard working people and very courteous to the guest. Some staff members need to be re educate on service expectations. The lack of people skills and courteous is very notorious among some of the staff members such as the staff at the bars/ lifeguards and the front desk. Jaime is the person who check us in ... The experience with this individual was very poor. He seemed bother because I was asking questions. I’m not sure if he was having a bad day but the welcoming was extremely poor. The hotel is huge, it looks like an asylum for people with mental problems and it’s very dirty. As you approach the hotel you can see the paint of the hotel is falling apart and super outdated. Need a remodel ASAP. The room smelled like humid and the curtains where ripped and the sun will hit my face every single day. I didn’t eat at the restaurants because it requieres a tuxedo to eat here and pretty stupid policy when the temperature it’s over 100F everyday in my opinion.... The buffet was exceptional in my opinion from the quality of the food to the service. The staff the works in the buffet have my respect. Impecable service from them. They made my stay here a little more enjoyable. The pool are so crowded and dirty . People leave the towels on the chairs and don’t come back for hours making it impossible for anyone to get any chairs. (Most of the people that do this are local tourist) I noticed it the entire week. The beach was phenomenal this is the place I enjoyed the most to be honest. This hotel is very cheap and you get what you pay for . The key for room looks like a public restroom key lol...They lack Of technology in here as well. The entertainment is very good and the people that provide it are very outgoing thumbs up for that. Overall if your not in to a lot of kids running wild and total disarray stayed somewhere else. We visit some friends at the Riu Palace and I completely regret booking this nasty hotel I should’ve payed a little More and probably have a more enjoyable experience. People stayed somewhere else or if your in a tied budget and don’t mind the mediocre service stay here. The check out line is ridiculously long make sure to be 3 hours before or they’ll try to charge you for Checking out late be careful with this scam and also try to stay in the first and second floor Since the elevator was down the entire week and your going to be waking up And down the stairs ...maximum capacity 5 people and 9 floors so Imagine that ...

We visited this hotel in June Arriving on 21 until 5th July we have visited many Rui hotels before hence our booking,oh how we wished we had checked the Mexican school holidays before booking.we arrived on Thursday and were shown to our beautiful room a junior suite over looking the sea ,fabulous first day , we thought we were for another wonderful holiday but that wasn’t to be ,the Mexico people arrived amongst others on Friday and all hell let loose, they saved sunbeds by the dozen , with anytime from a broken rubber ring a pair of kids pants to a child, it was impossible to sit near the adult pool or use any of the Sun beds that are built in the water which was another thing we liked when looking to booked. It was also the World Cup whilst we were there which was no problem for us ,we don’t follow football but the hotel catered well for those who do. That made another problem because we knew that the group of people we encountered had seats reserved for the football with towels as well as at least two lots of ten sunbeds which a lot of were not used until about 4pm. The staff we’re good but were not really interested we felt in there UK visitors,I even had my hotel towel taken from my sunbed,we had walked down to the beach and it was gone Fifteen minutes later, this really upset me as I have holidayed for the last twenty years ,and have never had a problem, the only upside of this hotel for me was The Sir George Restaurant, we booked to go and it was the most delicious fillet steak we have ever eaten,so thank you to The Captain(won) he was great as were Oliver and Rosa in the buffet,if it hadn’t been for those people I don’t know how we would of survived the rest our our two weeks in Rio Vallarta.just check school holidays before you book this hotel, we would never go back, ps we have six children and eight grandchildren so we have no problem with the children just the parents who let their children urinate in the bushes in front of us although there are toilets both side of the pools.
