Riu Vallarta

Nice hotel. All inclusive. Food was fair in the buffet restaurant, as most buffet restaurants are, so we weren't surprised. Food was better in the sit down restaurants. Our room had a musty smell when we walked in, but got better after we opened up the patio door. Bar service was excellent. As a matter of fact, ALL service people were friendly, and accommodating. Hotel was very clean, and it was easy to see that much energy was spent on cleaning, and appearances. Beach area could have been policed a little better. Cigarette butts all over the place. Nighttime music was good, but would have like some more easier listening, or softer music, as it went later in to the night. Overall, good thoughout the resort, however.

Pool and beach bar tenders were sometimes happy and sometime not. We were told reservations were not needed for specialty restaurants but were turned away from one that had plenty of open tables. However we really do like this hotel and will go back.

We have stayed at this Hotel previously. We loved it then and were pleasantly surprised that many things stayed the same if not improved. Love this hotel.

In need of a remodel
Feb 22 2018
The hotel is in need of a remodel. The rooms are musty smelling and the beds are not comfortable at all. The pillows are so tiny, almost travel size type pillows. A large chunk of concrete fell off the edge of the pool deck while we were there and maintenance quickly put on a temporary patch. Poolside and beach are very crowded and literally impossible to find open chairs unless you reserve them by 6 am. Food was average and dinner restaurants fill quickly if you arent in line 1/2 hour before they open.

Another fabulous week at the RIU Vallarta
Feb 10 2018
This was our second visit to the RIU Vallarta. We chose to go back because we had such a great time last year. Again this year was wonderful, we upgraded to a suite this year and it was well worth it. The room was beautiful and the location was perfect for us. From the time we arrived until we left the staff could not do enough for us. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. Yes it is a little older but that is what makes it so charming. I love the old world look instead of all the modern stuff out there. I have heard that a refurb is planned for 2019 I can only hope they keep some of the charm. We are already planning on going back next year! Thank you for a great week!!!

the food at the buffets often continues to be cold to tepid. The linens in our room were old and threadbare. The pillows were so lumpy they felt like bags of rags. I also thought the overall quality of the food was below our previous visits

Beautiful destination

What a beautiful facility. The building is in timeless art deco and so tastefully done. So many great places to eat and drink. Two seperate pools and the kids pool never got noisy. The beach and seating on the beach might be the best I've ever seen. perfect combination of palm tree shade and sun. Beach volleyball all the time. Flamingo bar and restaurant right on the beach open all day. I've been to Puerto Vallarta multiple times and this has been the best hotel we've seen. You will not be disappointed!

The overall rating is very good. Just a few small items: the beds are VERY HARD, the food it just so so, and the resort DOES NOT exchange currency. I would have known that if I would have read better. Regardless, the staff was super, very nice and most could speak English with the rest trying hard. I heard the other RIU down the beach had better food, but Lunch was the only meal we could partake in with our gray wristbands.

This is a great resort in an awesome location. Everything was fantastic except for the quality of the bedding. The bedding was worn and could stand to be replaced. The beach was awesome!

I write this review as I sit in the reception having just checked out of my room. My wife and I have just spent 2 weeks at Riu Vallarta from 8th-22nd March. The holiday was booked as my 50th birthday present from my wife. Mexico was 3rd choice. I wanted to visit Iceland but my wife wanted somewhere warmer. We initially booked Cuba but this was cancelled by Tui after flights from Manchester we’re stopped. So she opted for Mexico and Riu Vallarta....... What an inspired choice!! I was somewhat apprehensive after reading some of the reviews on Trip Adviser, however, those fears and concerns have been eliminated. On arrival the hotel is a large building with an Art Deco style. Check in was quick and easy. Our room (5062), was large and airy with plenty of wardrobe and drawer space. An iron and ironing board and a large bed with a balcony which overlooked the plaza and had a sea view. The bathroom had a shower over the bath, his and her sinks, a hairdryer& toilet. The decor was dated but as we only use our room to shower, change and sleep didn’t bother us. The rooms were cleaned and towels were changed daily. There was also a fully stocked refrigerator as part of the all inclusive. The hotel is situated about an hours walk down the long sandy beach to Bucherias and a 45 minute taxi drive to Puerto Vallarta. Taxis are cheap and can be booked from reception. We didn’t try any of the specialist restaurants the hotel had to offer but used the buffet restaurant. There was plenty of choice and variety at every meal time. I’m a vegetarian and always found something new and different to try. There was a special section every meal time which had a voice of vegetarian and vegan options. The entertainment in an evening was also of a good standard. I usually hate this sort of thing but the circus night and Mexican evening were very good. We spent most of our days on the beach and there were always plenty of sun beds and no need to reserve at the crack of dawn. Having read reviews prior to leaving I was a bit concerned about rowdy groups but this was not a problem. There were a number of American and Canadian groups on Spring Break during our stay but they were good humoured and no different to any other large groups of English/British families. The staff at the hotel work extremely hard and deserve their tips. Especially Alex in the downstairs theatre bar. One tip I would leave is for anyone who feels the cold is to take some leggings, knitwear or light sports jacket for the evenings or any early morning boat trips you may do. My wife feels the cold and didn’t pack any. We did buy some from the local town. All in all this was a very enjoyable trip and I would have no hesitation in recommending or revisiting Hotel Riu Vallarta in the future.

Don't ever go here!!!! They serve tainted booze. They lie to your face about it when asked!! They blame the guest for drinking too much! Wow Riu.... that's how little you care about your guests???? Save yourself the risk of injury or death.. don't ever go here... ( I was there for 7 days, never again)

Great Week in Puerto Vallarta

My family and I, along with a group of friends, stayed at the Riu Vallarta from March 9- March 16. We enjoyed every minute of it! Our flight was delayed on the Friday night so we arrived late. We were quickly checked in, and directed to the Sports Bar where we enjoyed sandwiches and salad along with some beverages. The next day, we eagerly looked around the resort. The pools were large and clean, and the swim-up bar was open at 10:00 am to enjoy 'Red Eyes'. The beach seemed to go on forever with beautiful white sand. Some of our group even walked to a nearby village, Bucerias. It took them about 45 minutes. The rest of us took a 10 minute cab ride to this quaint village. We enjoyed shopping in the market, and snacks at Miguel Angel's. I recommend the mango margaritas and guacamole (they made it right at our table). Yummy! We dined at the a la carte restaurants but I have to say that the buffet offered great selections too. We loved the pasta bar, salad bar, and daily fish options. After dinner, try the Flaming coffee or Mexican coffee. The staff were friendly and helpful. Even though the rooms are a bit tired, the staff keep them very clean. There are always clean towels, and the water pressure in our shower was awesome! The staff kept the grounds very clean too. Sit and enjoy the view near the front desk area as there was always a lovely breeze coming through the open mezzanine at the front of the hotel. Another 'day trip' that we did included a cab ride to the Malecon. We went on the Sunday night and enjoyed $1 margaritas and buskers along the street. Stores were open for shopping too. Another outing was called 'Rhythm of the Night'. We took a bus to the marina, then a boat to an island. Once there, we enjoyed an acrobatic show, and then a delicious dinner. Their buffet offered some of the best shrimp I've ever eaten. I would recommend this trip! Our group of 25 people had a great week in Puerto Vallarta! We hope to return soon.

Very relaxing break but staff need to learn to smile

Enjoyed our stay overall. The food was very good but did get repetitive but really enjoyed all the restaurants. The Flamingo's steak house was understaffed when we went one evening which meant we didn't get the table we wanted but we still enjoyed it. We stayed primarily at the kid's pool and it was clean and well kept. There did seem to be some confusion about kid's activities but they were fun when organised and the 'Riu Land' Lola in particular were very nice. The room was always clean and the housekeeping staff were really nice and attentive. We had a room on the 8th floor and the view was excellent. One big issue we had was with the wine, on many occasions the wine was the wrong one ordered and excuses for not having it made, or it was very very bad so if waiters could work around that it would help. Overall we really enjoyed our stay.

We had a fantastic 2 week stay here . Food was good , yes the menu was a little repetitive but that's always the case with All Inclusive in my experience. The room was comfortable with lots of storage , the bed was also comfortable which was a bonus ! The staff are wonderful and so friendly , a real credit to the business. The entertainment was a bit hit & miss , and honestly more miss than hit. The main stage acts were sometimes a bit 1970's game show and sometimes just dreadful ( The Abba Night !!) The bands that play in the square after the main show had very similar set lists , so it became a bit of a joke when we could all predict what they were going to play. Fortunately it was easy to find sun loungers on the beach as if you haven't deployed your towel and belongings on a sunbed by the pool prior to 7 AM then you ain't gonna get one ! The beach is splendid , and much quieter than the pool anyway.
