Riu Vallarta

The hotel was lovely and the service was good. The food was abundant; however, we found it pretty so-so. There were plenty of local specialties, which was fun, and there was plenty of variety; however, nothing was startling or innovative. We did feel that the food at the buffet (if carefully chosen) rivaled or surpassed that of the "specialty" restaurants. We also stood in line (about the 6th couple) for the Sir George restaurant, and, as it happened, there were two different couples from Quebec who were "saving" places in the line (which started 1/2 hour before opening). We discovered that there were 27 people in their group!!! Many of the folks behind us in line did not get in for the first seating when, clearly, they had been in line in plenty of time. I think perhaps you could devise a better system for seating, especially with only 50 some seats per sitting. That being said, the grounds were lovely, and activities were varied and interesting. The reception workers and the bell boys were always very helpful. We had a great getaway from the cold. Thank you.

Another great week

This is our third year in a row staying at RIU Vallarta. Again they did not disappoint! Everything was wonderful as usual including the weather. I believe they will be closing sometime this year to do remodeling. I only hope that they keep the art deco look instead of making it all modern looking. We are looking forward to next year and the RIU Vallarta again.

Fun and Friendly

We had no idea what to expect of the hotel when we left. When we got there the staff was amazing and very accommodating. My kids went to the RiuLand and they didn't want to leave Gaby & Aby. The hotel was dated but in a good way. We would definitely go back and use Ronda to book our next adventure.

Dirty hotel with bad staff
Jan 18 2019
Hotel was overbooked and they didnt care about the condition of the room they put us in. The bathroom shower curtain and the balcony curtains were moldy and hadnt been clean in a long time. There was a big crack on the wall and when I complained about it they place blame on guest. I have never experienced such bad service .

It was good

The place is very nice and the staff are excellent. I believe that it will undergo some remodeling in the spring or summer. One thing I would suggest is key cards for the rooms instead of a metal key with a huge piece of hard plastic, reminds me of a restroom key at a roadside gas station that has a tire rim attached so as to not lose the key. It is bulky. Everything and everybody else is excellent. The beds are hard but they will give you a mattress topper if you request it. There is not any complementary toiletries, just a bar of soap for hand washing and liquid soap in the shower.

Hotel check in personnel couldn't understand English that well and were not personable. Restraurants were not up to expectation. Not enough variety, staff were not friendly. Buffet food was really good and had 1 waitress that was friendly. Steak house was a great disappointment on both food and service. Waiter tried to pick up plate before we were finished eating. Bars didn't open until after 6 PM and bartenders never had a smile or a kind word to us. There were two evening bar waiters in the commons area that were excellent on service and attitude toward all. The instructor for the wind sailing lessons was great, friendly and helpful. Will never recommend this hotel to anyone.

Honeymoon in Vallarta
May 01 2018
My wife and I went on our honeymoon after 26 years of marriage. We had a good time in Vallarta and enjoyed the nice weather, beach, pools , food and the hotel staff. I would recommend this for anyone who needs to get away from the winter blah and enjoy some all around good times.

Hotel Overbooked
Mar 27 2018
We had some issues, we booked ocean view rooms, but had to have a standard rooms the first night, then be switched to the ocean view we booked. At first the hotel wanted to switch us to the Pacifico, which is not what we wanted, so wasted time the first day and part of the second day dealing with the changes.

Just back from a two week trip here, the service in this hotel is second to none. I have worked in hospitality for 10 years and to see everyone working so hard and being so friendly is a real credit to your hotel. It was my birthday while we were away and we got an upgraded room which was a lovely touch, the room was stunning. The pool was great and the all the staff during the day were especially friendly. Massive shout out to all the entertainment team they were extremely hard working and very very professional. Also a beautiful beautiful place.

Brilliant holiday.

We couldn’t fault our stay at the Riu Vallarta, from the wonderfully quick check-in, never an easy task with 3 coach loads off our Manchester flight alone, to the marvellous junior suite on the 8th floor. We were thrilled with our room, with the jacuzzi bath, to the view, the optics and the fact that there was plenty of places to put your clothes etc away, out of view. The food is fabulous, we loved the different nights in the buffet restaurant, and we went to all 3 specialty restaurants and loved them all, especially the Steak restaurant. The staff in all of the restaurants are brilliant, as they are all over the hotel, they seriously can not do enough for you, wherever you are in the hotel, it feels like there is a member of staff asking you if you’d like a drink. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff in the whole complex. A quick tip, if you find the mixed cocktails a bit too full of crushed ice, just ask for your cocktails ‘on the rocks’ and they will be happy to oblige. The margaritas are particularly good. Also forget the reviews that say the drinks are watered down or you can only get cheap brands, after a couple of days, we were drinking ‘Captain Morgan’ rum and ‘Tanqueray’ or ‘Beefeater’ gin, you just have to ask and if they’ve got it, you can have it, they don’t hide it from you, if you can see it, you can have it. We very rarely return to any hotel, anywhere in the world but we would definitely return the the Riu Vallarta, in a heartbeat. We also met some amazing people there, who we hope to meet there again, some day. Thank you to staff of the hotel for a wonderful stay in Nuevo Vallarta.

This hotel is in the perfect spot for a bit of paradise. Lush beaches beautiful pool. Amazing rainbow shots! Had a few of those! And there was always great entertainment. Decor a bit dated in lobby but I like the art deco vibe! Decent cappuccino too which you can't always get on hols! Will be back!

We stayed at the Riu for 10 days earlier this month. We have stayed at the Pacifico our last two trips to PV however we stayed at the Vallarta this trip to join 5 other couples that have stayed there previously. We arrived a little before check-in time but our room was ready so we got changed and headed down to the pool about 2:15. Check-in was quick and easy by the way. When we got to the pool I have never seen so many people at a resort. There were virtually no chairs anywhere which was disappointing to us as well as the next morning going down to the pool at 7:30. We found that people would put their towels out the night before🤬 Rude and the Riu did nothing to halt this practice. After our friends arrived we decided to spend our time on the beach and always found plenty of chairs after breakfast around 9. We really did enjoy the beach and the young men that served the beverages on the beach did an excellent job and are to be commended as well as the rest of the staff. The help in the buffets couldn’t do enough for you and were so friendly and helpful. Riu, your staff compliments your resort... I thought for the most part the food in the buffets was very good. Would be nice if you fried the bacon crisp though. Everyone was always digging around for the crisp pieces... otherwise there was always a great selection and a very good fruit selection. I wasn’t very enamored with the specialty restaurants, my medium well steaks would come out rare(my table kitty’s made out well those nites:) the ribs were tough and the Asian good but not as I’m used to. One other thing, I have never been around so many rude people in all of my travels. Don’t cut in front of others in the buffet line, get in line and wait your turn and if you walk up to the bar and someone has been standing there and the bartender asks if he can help you.... point to the person standing there and say I believe they were next. The big gripe I had with the resort was that we could not sit outside and enjoy the nightly entertainment as you allow smoking throughout the whole area. I would think you could section off smoking and non smoking areas. I hope you folks take good care of your bartenders as those folks work their tails off. They are going 90 miles an hour all day long. Hats off to those young people... to anyone who thinks there is no alcohol in the drinks I had a little too much fun many days and was a little slow some mornings.. your front entrance bellmen were also very good and represented the resort well👍Thumbs down to your attempt at a Super Bowl party although your outdoor buffet was good.. one more and I’m out of here, when you remodel and reopen would be nice if the bracelets have a chip in them so that your door opens with a wave of your wrist. Some resorts we have stayed at have this feature and is convenient..
