Honeymoon in Vallarta
GORDON N.
May 01 2018
My wife and I went on our honeymoon after 26 years of marriage. We had a good time in Vallarta and enjoyed the nice weather, beach, pools , food and the hotel staff. I would recommend this for anyone who needs to get away from the winter blah and enjoy some all around good times.

Hotel Overbooked

We had some issues, we booked ocean view rooms, but had to have a standard rooms the first night, then be switched to the ocean view we booked. At first the hotel wanted to switch us to the Pacifico, which is not what we wanted, so wasted time the first day and part of the second day dealing with the changes.

Nice hotel. All inclusive. Food was fair in the buffet restaurant, as most buffet restaurants are, so we weren't surprised. Food was better in the sit down restaurants. Our room had a musty smell when we walked in, but got better after we opened up the patio door. Bar service was excellent. As a matter of fact, ALL service people were friendly, and accommodating. Hotel was very clean, and it was easy to see that much energy was spent on cleaning, and appearances. Beach area could have been policed a little better. Cigarette butts all over the place. Nighttime music was good, but would have like some more easier listening, or softer music, as it went later in to the night. Overall, good thoughout the resort, however.

Pool and beach bar tenders were sometimes happy and sometime not. We were told reservations were not needed for specialty restaurants but were turned away from one that had plenty of open tables. However we really do like this hotel and will go back.

In need of a remodel
DUSTIN M.
Feb 22 2018
The hotel is in need of a remodel. The rooms are musty smelling and the beds are not comfortable at all. The pillows are so tiny, almost travel size type pillows. A large chunk of concrete fell off the edge of the pool deck while we were there and maintenance quickly put on a temporary patch. Poolside and beach are very crowded and literally impossible to find open chairs unless you reserve them by 6 am. Food was average and dinner restaurants fill quickly if you arent in line 1/2 hour before they open.

Another fabulous week at the RIU Vallarta

Feb 10 2018
This was our second visit to the RIU Vallarta. We chose to go back because we had such a great time last year. Again this year was wonderful, we upgraded to a suite this year and it was well worth it. The room was beautiful and the location was perfect for us. From the time we arrived until we left the staff could not do enough for us. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. Yes it is a little older but that is what makes it so charming. I love the old world look instead of all the modern stuff out there. I have heard that a refurb is planned for 2019 I can only hope they keep some of the charm. We are already planning on going back next year! Thank you for a great week!!!

the food at the buffets often continues to be cold to tepid. The linens in our room were old and threadbare. The pillows were so lumpy they felt like bags of rags. I also thought the overall quality of the food was below our previous visits

What a beautiful facility. The building is in timeless art deco and so tastefully done. So many great places to eat and drink. Two seperate pools and the kids pool never got noisy. The beach and seating on the beach might be the best I've ever seen. perfect combination of palm tree shade and sun. Beach volleyball all the time. Flamingo bar and restaurant right on the beach open all day. I've been to Puerto Vallarta multiple times and this has been the best hotel we've seen. You will not be disappointed!

The overall rating is very good. Just a few small items: the beds are VERY HARD, the food it just so so, and the resort DOES NOT exchange currency. I would have known that if I would have read better. Regardless, the staff was super, very nice and most could speak English with the rest trying hard. I heard the other RIU down the beach had better food, but Lunch was the only meal we could partake in with our gray wristbands.

Ignore the bad reviews - swear people just love to moan!

Back from a fortnight at this resort. Easy check in, TUI staff available 9am-3pm daily. The staff work incredibly hard. Wherever you are sat poolside/beach (which is beautiful)/bar area there are waiters bringing drinks to you. Mixture of entertainment every night. Optics in the bedrooms - not needed due to the amount of alcohol availability constantly, but nice touch. Maids change linen every day. The adult pool could be a bit wild, but we mainly stayed in the family pool. No issues with noise or sleeping. Cheap enough to get to downtown or the near village. Kids club available 3 times a day. Morning/lunch/evening. Nice break for parents if needed, they do some lovely things and meet friends. Both my 4yr old and 12yr old wanted to go back daily. People moaning about birds and cats. It's nature! What do you want them to do? Kill the animals so you have a perfect holiday? The staff are constantly cleaning. 3 Al a carte restaurants, no need to book and can go as many times as you want. We preferred the steakhouse (okay, they aren't premium U.K standard, but still nice food with good service). There is always food available, if you can't find anything you like at the buffet then you are hard work...potato options, Mexican options, fresh fruit/salad, meat, breads, ice cream, desserts, grill chefs, veg - I can't even name them all. Internet free for 2 in reception area and all the way down to the last restaurant, can pay weekly for 4 devices, better than I've had at other resorts. I wouldn't say the decor is tired, it looks authentic. Real Mexican feel. All in all, I am missing being here, it was a great holiday and I would definitely return.

A Family Review - Good Value

Just stayed for 7 nights. Traveled with my wife and 3 girls (8,6,3). Less amenities than I am used to but overall good value. ROOM- We had two separate rooms, but were connected in that the small hall to the rooms had a door that we could close and lock at night (see pic). Kids in separate room = better vacation! Rooms were fairly spartan, but clean. We had room facing interior and there is nightly noise from shows & live music until 11. Request outside room for quieter experience. Room notes: *You get 1 old school metal key for each room. *No clock or radio in the room. Consider bringing a small speaker. *Beds are fairly firm as noted in other reviews. Not insufferably so, but was grateful for my bed on return. *Mini fridge restocked every 2 days (soda, water,Tecate beer) and alcohol dispensers (tequila, rum, gin, and vodka). *No pen/paper *No Room Service *Water tap was warm even turned to cold. Only a big deal if you like cold showers. *Bar Soap and single bodywash/shampoo dispenser were the only provided toiletries. Consider bringing your own shampoo. *Balcony had a drying rack for swimsuits which was nice. POOL - We spent almost all our time at the kid pool. Main bar at adult pool & small bar at Flamingo restaurant. *Stair entry (no zero entry) *Pool is 4.27' deep. Small kids can play on shallow lounger areas. *Towel policy is 1 per day. *Someone from our group generally grabbed loungers between 8-8:30. BEACH *Sandy, no rocks. *Plenty of loungers *Can rent an umbrella from local vendor for $10/day RIU Land - It was small looking and we did not use. FOOD- Food was decent. Yes Hotel was older and shows some wear in places. It is kept fairly tidy though. Overall I thought it was a good value for what I paid as I was able to take 5 people for 7 nights with 2 rooms. Good way to introduce kids to Mexico and I didn't feel that any of the missing amenties overly impacted the trip.

Not for kids

Worse experience ever!!! Massive lack of communications between staff working here has ruined our holiday.Every single day we had to ask the alcohol to be removed from our room. Had issues with really noisy neighbour and the reception couldn’t help.Customer service absolutely disgusting. There is not enough security around the hotel during the night. This it’s not a family hotel,it’s an hotel for people who likes to get drunk all day long and be noisy 24 hrs a day. The kids swimming pool is not for kids but for teenagers as it’s 1.30m deep. There is not any type of entertainment for kids but just for adult. There is only a kids club where to take the little ones for a few hours a day but you don’t get to play and spend time with them. I will not recommend this hotel to any of my friends who looks into booking a family holiday or a relaxing holiday.

The staff make this place!

The staff here are awesome and the hotel itself beautiful. We discovered Nirvana about a week in and we were set (all you can eat Chinese buffet ). Special thanks to The Entertainment Staff! We love you guys. We must Mention Aurora (our housekeeper) Lupita (for always bringing us coffee) Paola (our favourite pool side staff member) David (for the dance lessons) and Ishmel who is just the most awesome guy ever (I think my girlfriend has a secret crush). We would absolutely come back!

Just came back from RIU Vallarta. Overall the experience was great, travelled with my wife and three teenage daughters. Lot's to do on the resort, clean, great service, great food, awesome beach and pool areas, and the nightly entertainment was also great. The only thing I would like to see change is the comfort of the beds (very uncomfortable).
