Beautiful location
Apr 05 2019
The hotel was very nice. Staff was excellent. The entertainment staff is top notch. Food at the restaurants was average, the buffets were always above average. Housekeeping staff was also excellent. My only complaint is the mattress was horribly uncomfortable. They put an egg crate topper on it, which makes me think the mattress is really old. The chairs at the pool fill up very early, but we always found chairs on the beach.

Overall hotel was clean and food was good. The service in restaurants was subpar, at best, and the cleanliness of our room varied from day to day.

This is an older hotel. The service was excellent however the food was poor tasting, the beds are rock hard and the pullout sofa wreaked of urine. The swimming pool and beach were clean. But the hotel rooms are old with a mildew smell. They didn't have my double beds available so I had to share a bed with my daughter. They did bring up an mobile bed for my son to sleep in but they put it right next to the stinky sofa. I would not recommend this hotel.

Vacation 2019
Mar 14 2019
This was our second stay at the Riu Vallarta and the resort was better than I remembered. We traveled in a group of six, ages 22 to 68 and everyone had a fantastic time. Every aspect of our trip was amazing and we will definitely be returning. The staff were all very friendly and attentive to our needs. We cannot wait for next year's trip!

The hotel was lovely and the service was good. The food was abundant; however, we found it pretty so-so. There were plenty of local specialties, which was fun, and there was plenty of variety; however, nothing was startling or innovative. We did feel that the food at the buffet (if carefully chosen) rivaled or surpassed that of the "specialty" restaurants. We also stood in line (about the 6th couple) for the Sir George restaurant, and, as it happened, there were two different couples from Quebec who were "saving" places in the line (which started 1/2 hour before opening). We discovered that there were 27 people in their group!!! Many of the folks behind us in line did not get in for the first seating when, clearly, they had been in line in plenty of time. I think perhaps you could devise a better system for seating, especially with only 50 some seats per sitting. That being said, the grounds were lovely, and activities were varied and interesting. The reception workers and the bell boys were always very helpful. We had a great getaway from the cold. Thank you.

Another great week

This is our third year in a row staying at RIU Vallarta. Again they did not disappoint! Everything was wonderful as usual including the weather. I believe they will be closing sometime this year to do remodeling. I only hope that they keep the art deco look instead of making it all modern looking. We are looking forward to next year and the RIU Vallarta again.

We had no idea what to expect of the hotel when we left. When we got there the staff was amazing and very accommodating. My kids went to the RiuLand and they didn't want to leave Gaby & Aby. The hotel was dated but in a good way. We would definitely go back and use Ronda to book our next adventure.

Dirty hotel with bad staff
Jan 18 2019
Hotel was overbooked and they didn’t care about the condition of the room they put us in. The bathroom shower curtain and the balcony curtains were moldy and hadn’t been clean in a long time. There was a big crack on the wall and when I complained about it they place blame on guest. I have never experienced such bad service .

Nice resort but in need of some updating. Beds are HORRIBLE to say the least but the rooms are quaint and well kept by staff. There is a mini bar in the room that is kept stocked and a nice addition. Getting into the restaurants is a confusing mess and management needs to find a better way to handle seating guests. All in all it’s not a bad place and nice for a getaway.

Great place!

We really enjoyed our time at this resort! Beautiful beach. Hard to get lounge chairs. Close to the beach & not so spread out. Staff was great! I wish you could make reservations at the restaurants because you have to stand in line when they open and hope you get in. Guys shouldn’t have to wear long pants at the one (any) restaurant in my opinion. Buffet was great! Overall a fabulous holiday.

Great service all around this resort

My husband and I stayed at the Riu Vallarta March 17 to 24 2019. This was our first stay in the Puerto Vallarta/ Nuevo Vallarta area. As well, first time guests at a Riu Resort. We would stay here again. The friendly staff offered excellent service from the quick and organized bellmen, to the front desk, to the buffet and a la carte restraunts. Also, Veronica, who cleaned our room was so friendly yet efficient. She took the time to introduce herself to us. Thank-you that was so nice. That small gesture meant so much. We have never had maid service do that at any other resort we have stayed. As it was our first time in the area, we needed some ideas as to what we could do for excursions. Thankfully, the resort provided Sunwing reps to help us plan our week. A special shout out to Rapheal from Sunwing. His plesant demeanor and willing to go that extra mile were certainly appreciated. He made a phone call and ensured we would be able to go on an excursion after misplacing a receipt. Thank you Rapheal for the warm and caring service you give. The only disappointment from this resort was the over crowding of the Adult pool. I understand this can't be helped being at a larger resort. Overall,Thank you Riu Vallarta for a wonderful week at your resort.

We got this at a bargain price through TUI. I always write an honest review and this will be no exception. At check in even though 4 coaches arrived from our flight alone, it was quick and painless. The rooms, although reported as dated was absolutely fine, big enough, clean and with more bath towels than anyone could ever use. Our room was cleaned to a good standard every day with towel figures etc. The pool areas were clean with plenty of beds, however if you want a bed by the pool set your alarm for 5am (not for me or should I say me hubby). The beach had plenty of beds with shade from the palm trees or a parasol if you prefer. Beach sellers throughout the day but not pushy or intrusive. Waiters bringing trays of drinks or you could ask for anything you wanted. The restaurants were lovely and St George was our favourite although the buffet was plentiful, lots of choice and excellent service. There was always early evening entertainment, usually a singer or group and then entertainment on the stage later. If you have kids then they have a mini disco too. All the bars served premium drinks and nice to see they are helping the environment by stopping providing straws. Do I have one small complaint...... not enough communal toilets. Although I can’t speak for the gents, there are only 12 communal ladies toilets throughout a large hotel, which really is not enough for the amount of people staying here. This one niggle stopped me giving 5 stars. Did it spoil our holiday.... absolutely not at all.

Wonderful Staff

What can you say about the Vallarta which hasn't been said before? Probably nothing. The staff and management at this location are exceptional. The workrate of the staff is phenomenal and an obvious genuine desire to please shows continually in the cheerful and courteous manner in which their duties are performed. A friendly smile goes such a long wayin making a holiday special. The hotel has been described as run-down and in need of a face-lift in other reviews. Admittedly there is some need for renovation but the whole site is kept immaculately clean and there is work being done later in the summer. Hopefully the renovations will not spoil the great atmosphere which presently exists. We had a junior suite on the eighth floor with a spectacular sea view. Everything was spotlessly clean on arrival and was kept that way throughout. There was always plenty of hot water at all times and clean towels etc daily. The beds were fairly hard but mattress toppers are available on request. The entertainment and bars in the plaza below do generate quite a bit of noise but we found that after 11pm it was down to an acceptable level and caused us no problems. The food in the main buffet restaurant is plentiful and of a very high standard with lots of choice from the buffet which was continually restocked. The hot food was hot and the cold dishes cold, not walways the case in some hotels. We tried the steak house a couple of times and were quite pleased. The waiting staff in the restaurants are beyond good and deserve all the tips they get! The quality of drinks available in the bars is very good and the barmen are really great, serving ten people at the same time and keeping track of the orders unfailingly. We travelled with TUI and the reps did an exceptionally good job and provided all the help needed to ensure smooth operation of excursions and transfers. We went on the Rhythms of the Night, which was an excellent show if maybe a bit over-priced, the meal included was very poor and the terrain was not suitable for anyone with walking difficulties. Being a football fan it was great to be able to watch my favourite treams in the Sports Bar, again very well run and snacks are always available, the only slight snag was the distance from this bar to the toilets, but not a big worry. For me the only disappointment was the sea, a constant ebb and floe of the sea making swimming a virtual impossibility. Overall we had a really good holiday, made very enjoyable by the fantastic staff of the Riu Vallarta, who are a credit to the place.
