Upon check in we were greeted with a yummy cocktail. But after 10+ hours of travel we were starving, we didn't arrive until 3:15pm and all food options were closed but one by the pool/beach. It was a ransacked buffet with nothing new coming out... We thought our whole trip was going to be like this... However to our surprise after getting to our room with a view of our VIP pool and unpacked we were determined to have a good time. Dinner buffet was at 6:30 and it was amazing all the choices and cleanliness made up for a disappointing check in. The food, drinks, beaches and shows were delicious and fun. VIP pool was a great way to start our day since they made the best drinks, short walking distance to beaches the VIP beach has more shade but ocean floor was rough, main beach was great, ocean floor was smooth and not much seaweed. Buffets were good but the specialty restaurants were really good, everyone said portions are small so don't be disappointed but here at RIU nothing was small... This was a relaxing vacation for us just drinking and sunbathing. Families could get bored if you don't book a excursion daily but us girls had a fun trip overall! Trying to get hubby to take me back! Ps grounds were immaculate and we didn't see one mosquito! Thanks RIU Bavaro More>

A week in paradise!

I just got back from a week in paradise! I sat here before I went on vacation and read a lot of other people's reviews and wondered how could so many people have complaints when you are in paradise! The VIP area is definitely worth the upgrade. It is not just for adults though and no sign in the hotel says its adults only. (Just to clarify) It's simply the VIP area which includes 2 private pools separate from the main pool (more quiet). All of the staff was nice and welcoming the entire time I was there. If you do any excursions I definitely recommend the dune buggies! The beach is beautiful! I recommend this hotel. Don't let the complainers scare you away! More>

Great time

We just got back from Riu Palace Bavaro. It was a great vacation and we had a realy great time. The hotel is clean. Rooms are huge with everything in the room including alcohol. Too bad I'm not a drinker :). The houskeeping staff was doing their job pretty good. No complains at all. Pool was fine but we spent most of the time on the beach. There is no single umbrella on the beach but you can hide under the palms Restaurants where great as well, with a lot of different food which was very delicious. If you tip the waiter he/she will be yours forever. Evening shows could've be better. Animators were great, they have been working very hard to entertain guests all day and night long. We would like to go there again and now looking good deals for NewYear. More>

This is our 4th year in a row taking a family vacation to RIU Palace Bavaro. It is the one thing I truly look forward to every year. Our group is always about 15 people. The staff always greets you with a smile and is very attentive. Johnathan and Stefanie our waiter and waitress have almost become part of our family. They even remember our names which is amazing with the amount of people they see a year. My only problem is the wifi is only reliable in the lobby. So if you have to login for business as I do bringing a mobile Hotspot let's you be able to sit on your balcony with your cigar while checking emails. I'm smiling as I'm thinking about it. More>

Amazing vacation

We arrived at the hotel earlier than expected (around 2pm). The front desk attendant, Rafael, did his best to find a room that was ready for us, unfortunately there wasn't one ready. He suggested that we go to the buffet to eat a little bit and come back around 2:30. We ate and the food was delicious. We went back to him after and he upgraded our room to one that had a jacuzzi in the middle of the room. Someone showed us to our room and brought in our bags. We tried using the wifi in the room but apparently it do sent reach up to the rooms. You need to go to the lobby for wifi which isn't that bad because you shouldn't be needing your phone on vacation. In short, I highly recommend this hotel. It is all-inclusive so there's no need to leave the hotel unless you want to do excursions (your travel agent will show you different things that you could do). The food is great and the customer service is incredible. Everyone is very nice and helpful. More>
