Couldn't complain if I tried

I read a lot of reviews before I stayed at this hotel and was concerned that I had spent a lot of money and it wasn't going to be great, but ignore the bad reviews I couldn't fault or complain about this hotel if I tried From the moment we pulled up in the coach the service was excellent the bellboy helped us with our luggage and the receptionist greeted us with a big smile welcome to riu palace bavaro we were checked in within 10 mins and we're given a welcome drink Then we were invited to use the coffee shop for coffee, cakes and sandwiches by the time we had finished there our luggage was already in our room which was well furnished and very clean, the air conditioning was very good in fact some nights it was too cold, the minibar was restocked as and when needed, towels were changed every day, the sheets were clean and not ripped as some reviews had mentioned I could not complain about the room at all The bars offer a large choice of drinks and the buffet was very good with a varied choice of food,we tried the other restaurants all were to a good standard including the wine Pool area very clean and well maintained as were the gardens there were plenty of sunbeds by the pool and on the beach pool bar was great you could fetch your own drink or wait for a waiter all the waiters were great the language barrier was challenging at times but with a bit of pointing at the drinks menu you always got the drink you wanted Pool entertainment team were great fun they would ask if you would like to take part if you didn't there was no pressure So overall we had an excellent holiday brilliant fun and would go back Thank you Riu Palace Bavaro

Having returned with my partner today from spending 2 weeks here I can say We never experienced any problems. The reception is an air conditioned large grand style affair. The staff are always courteous & attentive. The travel bags are taken away to your room & repatriated upon arrival. The room (ours 3117) on arrival (and most days after the maid has finished to be fair) is clean, light & scattered with flowers. Has the standard iron & board, safe, air con, mosquito net (filter on the outside door), fridge contents & optics (all replenished every 2 days & included in the price), mixer shower & separate jacuzzi bath. My only observation on the cleaning is check your bed sheets when changed as some are not coming back as clean as they should be. Food - various places from the steak house by the pool, large Buffett bar, fine dining, Japanese & Italian. It's not going to be to everybody's taste but the food was well presented, large variety (depending on which restaurant) & cooked fine. We never experienced any unpleasant meals or suffered ill effects brought on by suspicious foods. The pool side waiters can be a bit hit & miss with understanding you - personally I think the odd one tries it on if your new in the hotel expecting you to wave the odd tip his way! It is a Spanish speaking country but a lot of the staff can speak English or broken English so don't get annoyed just explain a bit more like fizzy water is soda or Diet Coke is Diet Pepsi etc. Most drinks are served from what we know in the U.K as unbranded but acceptable but you can ask for Smirnoff johnny walker etc. The weather - well you can't blame the hotel for the weather! Ours was on average 90% bright sunshine for 2 weeks averaging 31 c - so factor 30 - 50. The hotel also allows you to book through scubacarribe on the beach kayaks & catamarans for hotel guest free - both really good fun. Next year we'll try Jamaica as we fancy the Caribbean Sea.

A week in paradise

Just got back from a week at the Riu Palace Bavaro with my family, and next to my honeymoon at a sandals resort, this is the best vacation I have ever had. The resort is stunning with its chic and futuristic decor. It's also spotless and very well maintained. The rooms are amazing. Spacious and comfortable. The bath tub was perfect for giving my daughter a bath as she could play for a while and we could watch her without having to stay in a secluded washroom. The walk in shower was wonderful. There was tons of space to unpack and put things away in the drawers and closets. The balcony was huge and also spotless. The food at the resort was absolutely amazing. So much to choose from and everything was delicious. I also appreciated the presentation of the food and desserts. It looked like art everyday. The service also exceeded expectations. You don't have to wait for anything at this resort. I was amazed at the system they had during the evening shows. They were constantly watching people go see who needed a drink and if you ordered something you would get it promptly. Also, I called the front desk a couple of times asking for an extra blanket, etc. It seemed like I didn't even wait 5 minutes until someone was at my room. I also received a few courtesy calls to ensure everything was ok and that we were happy. Everyone was so friendly and nice to chat with. Pools were immaculate, beach was beautiful. I have no complaints about this resort. It is amazing and I have no doubt that I will return one day. Thank you Riu Palace Bavaro for an amazing vacation and memories to last a lifetime!

We went to Riu Palace Bavaro December 2016. This was our first time to Dominican Republic and we fell in love with this place! It is beautiful and the people fun and friendly. Riu Palace Bavaro is so beautiful, and the beach is awesome. The waves were a little rough, but not too bad. The swimming pools very nice and they always made sure the guests were active and having fun. The cleaning staff would pick flowers early in the morning and you would find fresh flowers in you room around the sinks, and tub also would find cute towel animals left by the cleaning staff. The food was great, awesome breakfast buffet, lunch and dinner. The Ala Carte restaurants do NOT require reservations and that is a big plus!!! JOHAN, at the front desk was my special friend and made sure we were happy with our VIP room. He promised an even better one on our next visit. Since you can use the facilities of the other Riu resorts adjacent to the Bavaro Palace, we enjoyed the pools and the bars and the buffets at the other RIU. The Macao was not included, as this is the adults only. I really cant think of anything to complain about, we think it was just paradise and we had a wonderful vacation. The staff was very nice and friendly and specially JOHAN made our vacation one we will not forget.

Disappointing honeymoon vacation

My husband and I just had our honeymoon at Riu Palace Bavaro this week and it was quite disappointing. We selected this resort because my sister had just recently stayed at another Riu in Cancun and had a wonderful time. Pros: •the front desk staff took us in right away, serves us drinks as we checked in and brought our bags straight to our room •the location to the beach is beautiful •the staff at Montecristo, housekeeping staff and entertainment staff are great. All are very attentive and helpful •the spa is amazing but obviously not part of the all inclusive Cons: •although beautiful the beach is full of vendors attempting to sell you everything under the sun •musty smell in the main lobby •musty smell in the hallway of our first room •I woke up to construction being down outside of my balcony. The room we had was location above the lobby so there was a an extended balcony area that is closed off to guests (as it should be for safety reasons). When I told the front desk they seemed to be unaware that it was happening. I was changed to a "VIP" room later in the day. The "VIP" room is exactly the same as a regular garden view room. The only difference is that there is no elevator in VIP and our balcony view didn't have the extended balcony. The two pools that you can go to in VIP weren't really worth going to in my opinion. We had more fun at the main pool. • the pools close at 6pm •there is not much to do, we were warned to stay away from the casino. The water park consists of four slides • the food is either mediocre or terrible depending on what restaurant you visit. My husband got food poisoning. Of course we forgot to bring alka seltzer and had to purchase some at the store on site for $15 (US). •room service food is very limited • the only 24 hour food area is the sports bar, which we were warned by other guests not to go there. The restaurants are only open for dinner starting at 6:30 pm other than the Montecristo (buffet). I am glad my husband and I planned a few excursions and went to the spa. I think this resort is more for people who want to relax the entire time on the beach. Overall, we are willing to try another Riu resorts but will definitely not return to this one.
