Great place to stay

I’ve not long returned from a two week stay at the Riu Palace Bavaro and really enjoyed my stay. I’ll quickly get the negatives out the way - the room we stayed in was a little tired and could of done with a bit of attention. We had a particularly bad experience waiting and being ignored in the Italian restaurant. Other than that I can’t say a bad word. The hotel is situated on a gorgeous beach, all staff (bar one night in the italian) were attentive, friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed the food, the drinks and the atmosphere. Our room our spotless and cleaned well everyday. I’d love to go back and would recommend to anyone. The only thing that stopped this hotel from getting 5 stars from me was the tired room, and two of the ala carte restaurants had the same menu which is a little cheeky.

OVERCROWDED AND A LOT OF WALKING

The Pool at this resort is overly crowded and small for the amount of guests. We had access to the pool from a different RIU resort which was closer to our room, but the access to it was inconvenient. The VIP guests had a smaller capacity but more pools. The one pool that everyone had to share, was loud and overcrowded. For anything we wanted to do, we had to walk FAR! Beach, pool, shopping, food, entertainment, bar, front desk, excursion desk, and coffee bar was a long walk! Our room had BUGS (cockroaches). We complained and they sent us a can of spray to spray our own room. Entertainment was LOUD late at night, so forget a peaceful evening on your patio or an early bedtime. The people and staff are very friendly and helpful. The Italian Restaurant on campus, included in our vacation, was full of seafood which we aren't fans of. It was close to local shops on Caribbean Street which we thoroughly enjoyed. Their prices were worth the short walk from the resort to save a significant amount of $$ compared to the resort gift shops overly priced items. The pool table charged $3 for a game of pool in the smelly sports bar. There was an excessive amount of seaweed on the beach front. Very disappointing for the money.

Our family holiday at the Hotel Riu Palace Bavaro

My wife Annie, daughter Jennifer, son-in-law Pablo, Yolanda and I stayed at the Hotel Riu Palace Bavaro celebrating the wedding of my daughter Jennifer to Pablo. We had one of the best holidays staying there for 14 nights All Inclusive. The Hotel was very close to Punta Cana airport and is of a very high standard. The restaurants cater to a wide choice of dishes to everyone's taste apart from having three other restaurants serving A-la-carte menus. All the waiters and waitresses were very courteous and friendly. The rooms were exceptionally clean and well looked after with a well- equipped minibar and a safety locker. The view from the balcony was exceptional. The swimming pools were very clean and we had plenty of daytime activities. Food was available all the time and drinks were flowing around the clock. The Reception staff were all very courteous and helpful. The night entertainment was exceptional. I must thank the Management for upgrading our rooms. We will definitely come back there again and hope to see everyone soon. The bar staff were very helpful too. I definitely recommend this hotel to anyone planning a trip to the Dominican Republic. Nice, Mid Size Resort- well maintained and good quality

OK, so this was like the 8th resort vacation that my family has been on. Mostly to Cancun area, but once to Jamaica, and one other time to Punta Cana. As you read these reviews, you really need to take what people say here with a grain of sale. Vacationers need to understand that at what you are paying for a 1 week all inclusive, you are not going to be able to expect to be the same as a 5 star resort in the US... which would be 3-4 times the price. What you get at these resorts is a great value for what you pay. Sure, the waiters may screw up your order because they dont understand english real well... maybe the coffee isn't strong enough for you... maybe the rooms smell a little musty...but lets be real, for what you are paying here, you woudl be staying at a Red Roof Inn and eating at Denny's back home in the US. Anyways... great trip, fantastic smaller resort, never seemed crowded, always had chairs availabe at the Beach and Pool. If you wanted to reserve a spot, go a little early on day one... tell one of the pool guys that you need X chairs, and in what area, and for a couple dollars a day you will have towells sitting on your chairs reserving your spot for the rest of the trip- awesome!!! Everyone is happy. Weather: Perfect... nice warm days, reasonable humidity. Evenings were cooler and could easily eat at outdoor restaurants. Bugs: Expected to have bad bugs, brought lots of bug spray. Family did not get one mosquito bite, nor did I see any. Either resort must bomb the place with bug killer, or something weird was happening, but we got more bug bites the first nite we were home in CLE than on the trip. Beach: The beach was really nice. Very wide and sandy, Lots of palms for shade, no huts at this specific resort, so you needed to move around to find consistent shade, but it was a very nice visual feel with just palm trees and the water. Within the water, the floor was also very sandy, so it was in general really nice. Seeweed seemed to wash in around 11 and hold the rest of the day. Only really the first 10 feet in or so. Once again, only nitpicking.. it was beautiful. Lotsa chairs and open spots. Looked like Corona commercial. Pool: Pretty nice. Lots chairs. smaller pool than some of the other resorts around, but just the right size for us. Service: Really good. Food: We ate at the A La Cartes every nite. No reservations here... seemed to be able to get a table easily if you showed up from 6:30-7:00 time frame. We would also check out the buffet nightly. All the stuff looked pretty good and food at A la Cartes seemed pretty typical. Some service issues to complain about if I wanted to, but nothing significant. Lot of the workers only have rudimentary English, which causes some communications issues, but I think everything was as I would expect. Typical American may complain about it, but its hard to complain from where i sit. Rooms: Same here... rooms were nice... AC worked. There was no wall between the BR and Bathroom, which was fine for wife and I, but a bit awkward for the kids sharing the other room. We thought this may happen, so we brought push pins and asked for a sheet when we got there- hung sheet between BR and Bath in kids room and it worked great. Entertainment: We didnt go to much... same old resort entertainment. Was more to our liking when kids were younger... this trip, we basically played cards with the family to occupy the evenings. One interesting downside on the trip. My family like to use the little Hobby Cat sail boats and we did so here daily- no charge. Second to last day, when we were pretty far out at sea, we hit a wave and the main mast on the sail boat fell over, right at my son and I on the boat... luckily we didnt get hit by the mast, as it really could have done some damage to us. We literally were stuck at sea for an hour or so with no-one out there to help us. Luckily some windsurfer came by that we were able to flag down and send into shore to get us some help. A boat came out, picked us up and towed the catamaran into shore. When we landed, no questions, no sorry no nothing. Some head guy showed us that one of the cables had snapped, but that was it. We walked away with a great story to tell about our "three hour cruise" and being stranded at sea.

Palace - No way - average run of the mill resort

This resort is in need of a overall from the people at check in to the rooms. I enjoyed having the sister properties to visit and the semi street market out side of the properties. The path to walk to the sister properties was easy to navigate and a beautiful walk along the ocean. The rooms were in need of a serious make-over: chipping paint all over the room, mold in the bathroom, blankets that needed to be changed out. Still I was glad I was in that room rather than my cousin who really would have made a stink of out the situation and ruined our vacation. I prefer the RIU Palace brand, but this resort left a lot to be desired. The adjourning rooms were nice to have, but I was disappointed there was no heated whirlpool. The pasta buffet was the best thing going along with the omelet station. Fun games at the pool. On our very last night the spring break crowd came in and turned this hotel upside down. I was surprised as heck to find out many of them were under 18. Understand that the RIU brand in Punta Cana have very few rooms with ocean front views. I was the one who suggested this resort based off all the other RIU Palace where I have vacationed, but this one was truly a let down.
