My partner & I stayed at Riu Palace Bavaro for two weeks (8.04.18-22.04.18), it was our 40th Birthday celebration. We absolutely loved it from the minute we landed in Punta Cana. The hotel was fabulous, including its location, atmosphere, rooms designs in VIP area, cleanliness, vast variety of food and the whole experience of water sports. The hotel personnel was very professional, friendly, helpful, accommodating and respectful. They made our stay very relaxed and enjoyable. The only negative remark I would make is for the smokers that leave the buds in a beautiful sand, there were plenty of bins to disposal of the rubbish and buds. Over all, would highly recommend the hotel to all our friends and family, as well as anybody who is thinking of going. We found the hotel even better than the reviews were stating. My friend and I traveled to the Riu Palace Bavaro in Punta Can a. For 2 women traveling alone we always felt safe. When we landed in Punta Can a we showed them our Delta itinerary which showed which Riu that we were supposed to go to. They seemed confused about which bus we should be on. We finally did get on a bus that dropped us off at a Riu. After standing in line for quite some time and getting their bracelets put on we were told we were at the wrong Riu and would have to pay a cab $15.00 to take us to the correct Riu. Probably a 5 minute cab ride. There are 5 Riu properties next to each other so it can get confusing but I showed them our itinerary so this should not have happened. The cab driver wasn't even sure where to go. He stopped at another Riu to check and that was the wrong Riu. We wasted time on this. Delta did reimburse us . After finally getting to the Riu Palace Bavaro check in was quick. We missed our meeting time with our Delta representative because we were late getting there. No big deal. We were supposed to have a garden view room but it was facing an alley where the trucks come in and out. A big air conditioning unit was just outside our room. It was very loud so we couldn't sit on our balconey. No big deal because we weren't in our room much. Our air conditioner wasn't working. I heard they were having problems with the electricity earlier. We told them about it and they finally did get it fixed the next day. We were told that there was free transportation to the "mall." So a van took us to the so called "mall." Don't waste your time. It was a 1 room building. Not what we were expecting. We booked an excursion, swimming with the dolphins, in the morning and were told by our Delta rep that we could go that day and to be in the lobby by 12:45 which we were. We were even early. We waited and nobody showed up. We were told to wait a little longer. Still nobody showed up. Then they tried to tell us that the van had been there but we weren't in the lobby. Absolutely not true. Then the Delta rep finally admitted he forgot to confirm it and we could go the next day. More time wasted. The rep told us he would send a souvenir to our room for our trouble. He never did so I reminded him on our last day and he did give us something. The beach is beautiful and you can walk for miles. There is shade and a nice breeze by the pool bar. There were plenty of pool chairs. I never had to get up early to save them. The pool was nice. The entertainment staff was great. They always had something going on. They would dance with people in between the shows. They were a lot of fun. The food was great. There is so much to chose from. I liked that you didn't need reservations for the specialty restaurants. The Riu Palace Bavaro is a beautiful resort. It's too bad we had a few problems. I have learned a few things though.

Mass tourism, does it work?

We travelled on a TUI package flying on a 787 Dreamliner in Premium Club, an excellent start to the holiday. The RIU Palace Bávaro is on a complex of five RIU hotels located next door to other complexes of comparable size on a narrowish white sand beach - which can obviously get quite crowded, and is busy with watersports activities. But back to the hotel itself, it is large (but not the largest RIU at 622 rooms) and with a choice of five restaurants in addition to the cavernous cacophony of the main eating place. The hotel layout and facilities are very well designed, and the attention to detail in the decor and the grounds excellent, as is their maintenance. A feature of the hotel is its VIP area, and if you're on the 'right side of the tracks' that's good. We were, thank goodness, as the VIP area provides some peace and tranquillity which is lacking in the main areas, and includes two small swimming pool facilities. All catering is common to all guests; with the numbers involved, this aspect was sometimes stretched and this was compounded by guests acting selfishly with no consideration for their hosts. The food wastage was distressing, and must be demotivational to the staff involved in its preparation and delivery. The quality of the food was somewhat variable, even in the specialist restaurants. However, the friendly welcome and the service provided by the staff to us was excellent throughout and everything ran smoothly. So, in this instance, mass tourism can just about work, but the consequences of the sheer number of people can be daunting.

Gorgeous!

Went to Rui Palace Bavaro with my family from April 20-27. Enjoyed our stay very much. Food was great, except for the one Italian LaCarte. The steakhouse is a must, it was delicious. The rooms were beautiful, spacious and cleaned on a daily! The beach was stunning. The pool was nice and big. There were nice shady area's. Everything's very modern. The anime staff was very playful and entertaining. The lobby is gorgeous. Did the scuba diving excursion, it was awesome! Highly recommend. Would definitely come back!

The fairly good , The Not so good and The Ugly....

First... the Ugly....After a a long long day of flight delays (not the RIU's fault) myself and 20 pax of my booked group of 35 pax arrived around 11pm, on 14 April 18 instead of 2pm. Already tired and stressed myself and over half of the group was met with MORE problems. Not only were the rooms the WRONG category booked, they had not been cleaned. So who cleans the rooms that late when the Housekeeping service has gone home, AND there is NO manager to assist ?? Answer: No One. After half hour of "negotiations" rooms were given that were clean but still not in the correct category. The resort guaranteed to straighten it out in the morning. The Not so Good: Next morning I sent my group to enjoy the beach and all inclusive benefits while I took care of the challenges we faced the night before. So, let me say here that while.. yes all the rooms have same bedding and amenities and decor, the RIU Bavaro charged my group for something they did not receive, and the overage was quite extensive. So everyone settled in because they did not want to move rooms again for a third time, . Additionally in most of the rooms, (my room included) although cleaned, there were still traces of the last guests in the jacuzzi, no hot water until reported several times and the mini-fridges never kept anything cold, and most of the phones did not work. When a room was cleaned, none of the coffee creamers nor coffees were replaced. The Fairly Good: The Restaurants and the buffet had very good food and a huge selection, each night something different and a few staples like pizza and hamburgers just in case you couldn't handle the Caribbean cuisine. The shows were lively and very entertaining both by the pools in the day and at the theatre in the evening. Between the Riu Bavaro and the Riu Palace there was a street where the locals had souvenir's shops set up and a chocolate store and cigar store. Some very unique finds and also your basic t=shirt and coffee cup available. The Splash Park located at the RIU Palace resort next door to the RIU Bavaro was utilized by several of the group that brought their children and it was reported to me that it was great fun. The Casino between the resorts apparently paled in comparison to what the USA had.. but that's ok right ?? At the end of it all .. two weeks after my group was home a solution was reached for the incorrect categories of rooms. Although the group had a reasonably good time.. all voted to never stay at this RIU Palace resort nor ANY RIU Palace resort again.
