Been in Punta Cana several times, allow me to evaluate this hotel like the best so far. Checking for our group was incredible faster, not all rooms were ready, understandable considering the size of our family and friends group (75). Rooms are all junior suite, five star hotel, my room was for 3 person, the maximum they allow, unless you come with a small child. Food excellent, you can choose a different restaurant every night. Service outstanding, You will never be bore here, the personnel in charge of the entertainment will keep you busy during day and they will perform a different Las Vegas style Show every night. Checking in in the Palace Bavaro, grant you access to the other Riu located next to each other along the beautiful Arena Gorda beach in Punta Cana More>

This was my first trip to DR so my excitement was through the roof. The resort was beautiful. I stayed in an ocean front view room. Unfortunately, there was no elevator in the building to get me to the 4th floor with luggage. Not cool. Room was nice but no double beds. These rooms are for couples. Luckily, there was a king size bed for me and my bestie. Now for the issues, wi-fi only worked in the lobby, not in the sleeping rooms or public areas such as pool and restaurants. Secondly, the food was not that good. I was expecting more DR cuisine at the buffet. And lastly, the customer service needs some serious work. There is clearly some prejudice with the staff (natives) and people of color. On several occasions, the service was slow for our group versus other (caucasians) guests. Coffee and tea was poured for them and not for us. All our money is green. Three nights we attended the restaurants for dinner we were the last to leave because the service was bad, food orders was incorrect. I can go on and on. More>

We gave Riu a try... Next time going back to Iberostar

Party of 8 people.. Family trip. I will not going into the details of highlights because mostly are said in Tripadvisor, I will just enumerate some: Good food, incredible rooms for the price, really great infrastructure... So basically good value for your money if you look at that "picture" alone... But I am already really picky since this is my 6th time in Punta Cana... Several ones in Cancun, Cuba and so on.... But only just my second review in Tripadvisor since I am lazy writing... But this is my story and my comparison. I have tried from the cheapest Iberostar (Bayahibe, Punta cana, Cancun) to the most expensives ones (Grand Iberostar Cancun and Punta Cana) even though the price can go from 150us a night till 600 us depending on the level... All of them have something in common and is call great SERVICE. In Iberostar everything just work as you can expect... They know their business... Simple but effective. Of course depending on the price tag you know that the hotel will have different levels of food/drinks/rooms/pool/vips/etc and that is what you called in business the good/better&best value proposition... Example: I paid for the "good" I will just expect a good experience and I can give a 5 stars review, even after being in the "best"... I selected Riu this time to try for a change... And Riu Palace Bavaro in price tag is between good/better if I compare with iberostar... Bit more expensive than the lowest level of Iberostar. But these few days I learnt that Riu doesn't have a good service. Period... Looks like they are just learning how to run a hotel... Why? Because Small details matters... To give you just some... Small details. They started throwing water with buckets to the floor in the swimming pool (Vip One only adults) at 18.15 sharp to tell you - please leave the pool- even though your bags are still on the floor getting wet... RIU I know you need to clean in some moment... but be POLITE.. ask people to leave and start cleaning but no while you are still there.. We are on vacation guys give us some time! They dimmed the lights at 10.00 pm at the restaurant to politely say... please finish your conversation and go somewhere else... The Internet just simple doesn't work in almost all of the hotel.. Common! new hotel 3 years old and you cannot figure out to make it work? ... I am writing this review from the spa in another network that worked... I don't like to be connected in vacation but at least I want to send a whatsapp to my parents to get together on the beach... Or to be ready for the dinner.. Year 2016 and... 70% of the refrigerators from the rooms are not working... They are generating mostly heat... And it has been a problem all week... And one guy from front desk recognized to me, is not going to be fix anytime soon... So basically had to change my room to one in which the refrigerator was ok (30% of the rooms) And I can go on and on... Please Riu please listen to your customers... You have a really great hotel in infrastructure with great potential... but there are some small details that matters.... Learn from others, hire some management from your competition and improve your business.... And I may go back and give you 5 stars... So far prefer to stick to Iberostar chain. BTW my girlfriend stayed on the cheapest Iberostar last week (dominicana) before coming to Riu with me... and now she is comparing first hand... And she came to the same conclusion... Service, service and service... I did write this review in English although my native language is Spanish... So forgive my grammar mistakes. More>

Would definitely go back

Staff was wonderful, room was in good condition and clean. The only thing we found lacking was the food. Certainly had lots of variety but all just so-so. Surprisingly preferred buffet to specialty restaurants. Two poolside lunches, pulled pork with tortillas and barbeque were fantastic! Drinks were good quality, especially at the bar in the lobby (espresso martini - yum!) and always served quickly and with a smile! The beach was lovely, plenty of lounges in either Sun or shade, white sand, kept clean. Overall a wonderful vacation that I would gladly repeat! More>

Stayed here for a week and I was very happy with the resort.. It had its flaws as well but nothing big enough to stop me from going there again Pros: the grounds are beautiful and were worked on daily to keep it beautiful. The staff were very friendly and did a great job bringing drinks or food or cleaning up and thankfully almost all spoke English. The room was good: I loved the huge walk in showers and the AC was strong and also had a ceiling fan above the bed.. It was so good I ended up turning it down because it was too cold in room which was great problem to have. The pools and bars were good and we never had trouble getting beach or pool loungers which is always a big issue for me. Dinners were good not spectacular and the buffet was the same. Not gourmet but I still liked it a lot never left hungry. Planning excursions were easy from the lobby and our transports to excursion was always on time Cons: wished there were more food options open late night for after partying. Wifi only works in the lobby but I actually liked it because no one was on their phones the whole time. My room was on 3rd floor and they don't have elevators which I didn't mind but my wife hated.
