Not worth the money

The suites are nothing to get excited about, couldn’t upgrade to villa as had children but this is a family friendly resort. Arrive in first suite and the air conditioning was leaking, had this fixed daily for 3 days. Moved on 4th day apparently an upgrade yet the beds were smaller and an awful smell in the room. Unfortunately we still have 10 days to go! Kids club have no toys, tiny room and the kids pool area is something to be desired. Broken swings, bugs in the pool daily. Don’t waste your money people

Not bad but will probably go smewhere else next time

We just returned from the Dominican Republin last Tuesday. He is my honest review since we travel to the Islands every year. Rooms: the rooms are state of the art and clean. Tons of room although they only allow max three to a regular room. Bathrooms are spacious and very clean. We had to hve ajoining rooms for the two kids but that was fine because we had a deadicated conjoined hallway and just left the doors open. Grounds. Pristine and well manicured. super clean. Food: okay this was not so great. We ate at most of the resurants. First it is awesome to not have to make reservations but on the other hand you must gt there early or you will wait up to an hour for seatig. The steak house was a family favorite but the service was horrible. Food fantatic but took forever. we love japanese but the resturant left much to be desired. Luigis ( Italian) was very good) Buffet (both Lunch by the pool and breakfast and dinner in the main resturant) amazingly they kept running out of stuff. One morning they actually ran out of bread. how is that possible!!! ran out of tuna at te lunch buffet as well and a few other items. They never ran out ( not that I saw) of the crap food... hot dogs french fries and hamburgers but some of the healthier fare was always gone. Entertainment: I found the staff to not be as inclusive as oher resorts (like Iberostar next door) the 4:00 pool game were almost none exsistant other than salsa dancing. Friday they had a foam party which was awesome and the kids really enjoyed it. To be honest we are very use to 4:00 crazy pool games. The MC host at the shows only spoke spanish so if you did not understand and had no idea what was happening. I would say that is where this resort could use the most help. The entertainment staff and activities. The activities board if located in the main lobby so you really had no idea what was happening when. Spa: I treated my daughtr to a massage for us and although I get regular massages at home it seemed they poured the oil on and just rubbed it in. no real massage to speak of. but Still better than no massage at all Front Deask/reception was outstanding!! very accomidating to your needs The beach is packed with seaweed which is nature I know but they should purchase rakers to drive the beach a few times a day and clean it up. Sports and lobby bar: sports br was great for a late night snack but should keep in mind not everyone eats hamburgers and hot dogs. maybe little more variety for food and younneed to pay to use the pool table or foosball tables per game. That my honest experience. I hope someone finds it helpful I thnk we will return to Iberostar of another resort next time. As I said the place was

Pretty property, great service, good food...but may consider other options next time..

This is a really pretty property but the lobby is a little gaudy. The service is amazing with lots of staff. Very entertaining night shows. The beach seems to be in two levels but is very nice with lots of shade trees. The beds have no comforter or duvet, just sheets ...I found that odd and did not care for it. I would have preferred to have a comforter or duvet. In addition, many resorts where I have stayed have some sort of eatery on or near the beach with extended hours. While the buffet restaurant ends at the beach line it is far from the shoreline and closes at 10:00 PM. The room service menu has limited options. The VIP section is closer to the beach and has its own pool. It would be nice if the VIP section had its own restaurant or lounge. With so many other resorts offering much more at a similar price point, I am not sure I would stay here again,

Japanese restaurant has the most arrogant servers! The food itself was 👎😝appetizers, wasabi, ginger were all old! We went there twice: first time we walked out after waiting for the dessert for 33 min, not to mention that food itself was just bad, we basically returned everything untouched, even tho we left a $10 tip. Second time we decided to go and try to order something different, but had to walked out after calling the waiter twice to take our order, and got a nod both times with a face like it’s not your turn yet. We walked out without touching their once again old looking appetizers! This hotel says Palace, however it’s lower standards than the actual Riu Palaces around the world. We are loyal travelers and always stay in Riu chain hotels, and know the difference between just Riu hotel and Riu Palace. Another observation that Riu Palaces have yellow-pinkish towels for pool, and just Riu hotels have blue towels and this Bavaro has blue towels. Anyways, kind of disappointed here. Oh and make sure to ask the ladies on the beach how much they want for braiding your kids hair. I asked and she didn’t answer and started to braid my daughters hair, then told me it’s $5 per braid, I was shocked because usually they want for half head $20-25 in most beaches in Mexico (Cabo, Cancun, puerto Vallarta, Rosarito, etc), Jamaica, cayman island, etc... here she said $125. Not coming back here!

Nice but not so nice

We have one more night here. We arrived on 28/7/18 for our 14 night family holiday stay. The pros *Good variety of food and drink at all restaurants. Taino do a fabulous steak and the patisserie make great milkshakes. *Calm setting promoting blissful rest *Comfortable beds promoting good nights of quality sleep. *regular floral tributes in your room *Free access to the water park which is in close proximity Swimming pool has good access to sun loungers in and out of shaded areas *Air conditioning in some areas is great *Hotel gardens are well maintained *There are some very friendly staff. We had a friendly house keeper called Lydia who did her utmost to keep our room clean. *Nightly entertainment *Plenty of outdoor seating areas Cons There were however several things that leave a bad taste in your mouth * Cleanliness /quality of linen requires improvement *Staff often take long to take/ bring drink orders *Staff are often selective about who receives table service in the lobby bar and in general staff were inconsistent with the services offered such as we ate at La Bambola a few times but they did not always offer you the desert wine and a mojito was never made the same at the different bars. *Towel hut staff can be rude one tried to decline a towel card that he had given me the previous day, implying that I had obtained it elsewhere?? *Excursions are very expensive *Free trip downtown allows you 2 hours and in that time you are told you can not shop in the neighbouring shopping mall and sent on a scavenger hunt each person collecting 3 stamps. If you forfeit either of these you have to pay to return to the hotel. *No designated area for smokers so they can smoke in the spots bar and at the nightly entertainment. *Poor follow from customer complaints- We had a iPhone charger stolen from our room I reported it on 2/8/18 to Christian at customer services and was informed that that I would receive a response the following day, well I did not. I contacted them again on 8/8/18 to follow up my complaint. At that time I had proof that a member of staff had entered our room as on the day the item went missing they left a key card in our room. I spoke with Yoryi about this this and she said that they had checked and no one had entered our room!! Or if they had it may have been to complete a customer survey. I have never heard such utter nonsense in my life! *The lifts were completely out of service for 2 days and when they do work they they are not sympathetic to humans as they do not have sensors to recognise when someone is walking in. The doors hit my daughter in her shoulder as she was walking in. *The soap dispenser in the shower has a small amount of soap but lots of water and the toiletries are not always replenished. *The mini bar is not always restocked *The television volume goes up and down automatically dependant on what channel you are watching sometimes this can be exceptionally loud *There is no music throughout the hotel. Music is only heard if you are at the pool or during night time entertainment *we stayed in room 3016 and the plug points are inadequate. They were unable to stay in place with the travel adapter unless you wedged it in with a coke bottle *Seaweed city if you go to the beech Overall we had a good holiday as we feel well rested however based upon our experience we feel that the hotel requires some improvements. Having stayed in many hotels around the world we would rate it as 3.5/5 and we certainly would not return to Riu Palace Bavaro.
