Riu Palace Aruba - Amazing

Riu Palace Aruba was an amazing place. When we travel, we always travel Riu. The all inclusive experience is amazing. The beach in particular at this Riu was the most beautiful place we have ever seen!

My daughters and I stayed at this hotel on our recent trip to Aruba. This hotel met and exceeded all my expectations. We were fortunate to be upgraded to an ocean view junior suite and boy, did the view wow us every day of our visit. This is a great hotel to stay at with kids. They have activities every day by the pool and at night, the entertainment is terrific. We always were able to get a lounge chair by the pool, but if you wanted a palapa on the beach, you needed to get their early and stake your claim. They offer free water activities - kayaking, paddle boarding, snorkeling, and floats with ID. The food at the hotel was really good. From the buffet to the 4 on-site restaurants. We tried them all. The only issue with the on-site restaurants was that the food was not kid-friendly. So, I would recommend just doing the buffet. The staff on-site at the hotel were super friendly and spoke English very well. I had been at another Riu hotel in Cancun, but this one was far superior. Highly recommend, especially if you have children.

No negative review from me!

Prior to my trip,I encountered some really negative reviews regarding rooms smelling musty, fish being bad,and not to eat it. All I can say is this vacation was one of the best I've been on. I was impressed with the food. Everything was delicious, including the seafood, and I had no stomach issues eating at any of the restaurants. Either did my husband. Our room was gorgeous, and very large and comfortable. There was no musty odor in our room,as stated in a review on Trip Advisor. The bathroom was quite spacious, and clean. Only negative there was the need for a better hair dryer. The one on the wall had no power to it. I also would like to commend the person who thought to include magnifying mirrors for those of us who need one to put makeup on. I would like to suggest that a clock be put in the room,on the nightstand, so you could see what time of the day it is. Outside at pools and beach, there was reserving of chairs and tiki huts with towels, obviously done early in am, making it difficult to secure something shaded on beach or at the pool. Other than that, you'd be crazy not to try the RIU!

We've stayed at Riu's in Punta Cana, Mexico and now Aruba - they are all great, but the island of Aruba makes the difference in choosing it as our favorite.

Amazing is the word to describe this hotel. The staff always greeted you with a smile and made you feEl like you are the most important guest there. I am not a fan of buffets but let me say this the buffet was at least 10 stations and the food was served in small batches which meant it was always fresh. The buffet was better than the restaurants this does not mean that the restaurants were sub part because they were wonderful. The grounds were immaculate and the pool was enormous and clean. The beach was great and when you walked onto the beach there was a young man who would find you a spot and bring you a lounge chair. THEY say not to tip but these people were so fantastic I left many tips and they were extremely grateful. Bottom line don't miss out on going to the RIU Aruba. We will absolutely be going back and looking for a Riu in other travels

Riu Palace Arube and Apple Vacations

We have stayed at Riu Palaces many times in Playa del Carmen and know the chain's standards. We were disappointed in our stay at Riu Palace Aruba as the hotel didn't meet the expectations noted on Apple's website and based upon our experiences at other Riu Palace due to a fire that had occurred just prior to our arrival. The hotel was not fully operational when we arrived and we were disappointed that Apple had been informed and knew about the fire yet chose not to tell us in advance of our departure. We experienced power outages on an evening, not elevators were not operational for several days, some restaurants were closed. Apple should have thoroughly researched how the hotel had been impacted and discussed potential issues with us in advance to give us the option to go to another resort. We also found the on-site contact uninformed which we found hard to believe (Palma Tours). We've requested a partial reimbursement from Apple as we booked through Apple.

NOT Riu/Occidental

We arrived in Aruba only to be told that our resort (Riu) had a fire that am, and that we were being placed at the Occidental, we are very grateful that we had a place to stay, however the Occidental is not the Riu in our opinion it was a major down grade. There was NO communication with us, we asked lots of questions but got no answers, we had a wonderful vacation in spite of the Riu and apple vacations lack of communications and are very happy that we were able to spend our vacation in Aruba, not as planned however, we do not feel we got what we paid for and have a this point still not heard any explanations from either the Riu or Apple Vacations, very disappointing considering the amout of money we paid.

Beautiful beach, great pool, but...

Enjoyed our 6 day all inclusive stay. Weather was 85 degrees every day, hotel room was large ) actually got upgraded to a suite). The food was very good for an all inclusive, lobster tails twice and beef Wellington, perfectly done. My only complaint was you needed to reserve beach chairs at 7 am by placing your towel on them, even though the welcome brochure specifically said that practice was not allowed. Many chairs sat empty for most of the day. Why don’t these resorts have a policy that is enforced...if chair is unoccupied for one hour, staff can reclaim for another guest to use.

Not a 5 Star Property

We spent a week at the Riu Palace Aruba from 01/05/18 through 01/22/18 and had a very pleasant stay. Some folks rate this as a five star. We believe it’s more of a four star resort, and barely that. PROS: Excellent room with a view of the ocean and on tenth floor in main building. Resort was very clean, and there were many folks cleaning and sweeping. The pool was very large and again very clean. Same goes for the beach, lovely smooth sand and almost no debris. The buffets offered a good selection of food, but see comments below. There were four specialty restaurants, and we ate all dinners but one at these specialty restaurants, twice at Crystal (very good) and Japanese (one step below Crystal) CONS: They seemed to economize on quality food. For example, we saw no shrimp or roast beef. Lobster was available at the steak house, but the piece was small and overcooked. They have a UNIQUE AND UNACCEPTABLE DEFINITION OF “ALL INCLUSIVE.” We stayed at an all inclusive a number of years ago, and alcoholic beverages were available with meals. AT THE RIU PALACE, WE WERE ONLY OFFERED WINE AND BEER (NOT HIGH QUALITY) AND NO OPTION OF AN ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE. A GREAT WAY FOR THE RIU TO SAVE SOME $S!! Communications documents for guests were poor. We’ve stayed at many timeshare resorts, and these items are always provided in the room, but at the Riu we had to ask each time to obtain the information: listing of nightly special buffets, bus schedule, church availability, nightly entertainment, television channel listing (after receiving the listing we were given, it did not match what was on the TV! ). These are all examples of poor customer service. There were VERY POOR facilities for printing of boarding passes. Computers were provided, but there was NO PRINTER. The guest was instructed to email the boarding pass file to the reception desk for printing, but there was no email program on the desktop of the computers. Fortunately I remembered the user name and password of my personal email. A process that should have taken five minutes took almost a half hour. The Riu employee nearby informed me that many guests experienced the same frustrations that I did. This is an example of VERY POOR customer service. In summary, our rating is barely a four star due to service issues and lack of alcoholic drinks with dinner at a so called all inclusive resort.

A comfortable place

They have a beautiful beach front and pool. The service is great. I loved the cafe by the bar in particular, with all the variety of coffees to choose from. The drinks definitely were not diluted with water. They weren't cheap at all hehe.

Does not Deserve a Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence

We thought about staying here for a vacation and thought we would take it for a test drive by getting a day pass. We booked this resort through resortforaday.com. Wifi was clearly stated as included but when I arrived at the front desk they had a conflicting policy that said it was not included. Not a great first impression for a "luxury resort" with a "certificate of excellence". The resort itself was generally pretty but other things surprised me. The pool was freezing cold, there were very limited restroom options and the women's often had a line to use it, and the beverage options were very limited. Again, not what I would expect for a resort of this caliber. Have low expectations. All things considered, if the cost had been around $75 per person it might have been a better experience. In the end the $130 per person cost just isn't justified and kind of felt like a rip-off. In the end I am thankful though because I would not want to stay here overnight.

Hotel could not care less about customer service and said so according to Alfredo! When my comment to him was “then I guess we won’t come back to a Riu.” He responded, “. Well that’s your choice”. SERIOUSLY! This was all for a request for surf and turf at their steakhouse, which by the way, is not on any menu at any Riu property.
