Riu Palace Aruba - Amazing

Riu Palace Aruba was an amazing place. When we travel, we always travel Riu. The all inclusive experience is amazing. The beach in particular at this Riu was the most beautiful place we have ever seen!

Beautiful View, Friendly Workers, Great Food

My daughters and I stayed at this hotel on our recent trip to Aruba. This hotel met and exceeded all my expectations. We were fortunate to be upgraded to an ocean view junior suite and boy, did the view wow us every day of our visit. This is a great hotel to stay at with kids. They have activities every day by the pool and at night, the entertainment is terrific. We always were able to get a lounge chair by the pool, but if you wanted a palapa on the beach, you needed to get their early and stake your claim. They offer free water activities - kayaking, paddle boarding, snorkeling, and floats with ID. The food at the hotel was really good. From the buffet to the 4 on-site restaurants. We tried them all. The only issue with the on-site restaurants was that the food was not kid-friendly. So, I would recommend just doing the buffet. The staff on-site at the hotel were super friendly and spoke English very well. I had been at another Riu hotel in Cancun, but this one was far superior. Highly recommend, especially if you have children.

No negative review from me!
MARILYN M.

Prior to my trip,I encountered some really negative reviews regarding rooms smelling musty, fish being bad,and not to eat it. All I can say is this vacation was one of the best I've been on. I was impressed with the food. Everything was delicious, including the seafood, and I had no stomach issues eating at any of the restaurants. Either did my husband. Our room was gorgeous, and very large and comfortable. There was no musty odor in our room,as stated in a review on Trip Advisor. The bathroom was quite spacious, and clean. Only negative there was the need for a better hair dryer. The one on the wall had no power to it. I also would like to commend the person who thought to include magnifying mirrors for those of us who need one to put makeup on. I would like to suggest that a clock be put in the room,on the nightstand, so you could see what time of the day it is. Outside at pools and beach, there was reserving of chairs and tiki huts with towels, obviously done early in am, making it difficult to secure something shaded on beach or at the pool. Other than that, you'd be crazy not to try the RIU!

We've stayed at Riu's in Punta Cana, Mexico and now Aruba - they are all great, but the island of Aruba makes the difference in choosing it as our favorite.

Amazing is the word to describe this hotel. The staff always greeted you with a smile and made you feEl like you are the most important guest there. I am not a fan of buffets but let me say this the buffet was at least 10 stations and the food was served in small batches which meant it was always fresh. The buffet was better than the restaurants this does not mean that the restaurants were sub part because they were wonderful. The grounds were immaculate and the pool was enormous and clean. The beach was great and when you walked onto the beach there was a young man who would find you a spot and bring you a lounge chair. THEY say not to tip but these people were so fantastic I left many tips and they were extremely grateful. Bottom line don't miss out on going to the RIU Aruba. We will absolutely be going back and looking for a Riu in other travels

Riu Palace Arube and Apple Vacations

We have stayed at Riu Palaces many times in Playa del Carmen and know the chain's standards. We were disappointed in our stay at Riu Palace Aruba as the hotel didn't meet the expectations noted on Apple's website and based upon our experiences at other Riu Palace due to a fire that had occurred just prior to our arrival. The hotel was not fully operational when we arrived and we were disappointed that Apple had been informed and knew about the fire yet chose not to tell us in advance of our departure. We experienced power outages on an evening, not elevators were not operational for several days, some restaurants were closed. Apple should have thoroughly researched how the hotel had been impacted and discussed potential issues with us in advance to give us the option to go to another resort. We also found the on-site contact uninformed which we found hard to believe (Palma Tours). We've requested a partial reimbursement from Apple as we booked through Apple.

NOT Riu/Occidental
JAMES K.
Mar 16 2016
We arrived in Aruba only to be told that our resort (Riu) had a fire that am, and that we were being placed at the Occidental, we are very grateful that we had a place to stay, however the Occidental is not the Riu in our opinion it was a major down grade. There was NO communication with us, we asked lots of questions but got no answers, we had a wonderful vacation in spite of the Riu and apple vacations lack of communications and are very happy that we were able to spend our vacation in Aruba, not as planned however, we do not feel we got what we paid for and have a this point still not heard any explanations from either the Riu or Apple Vacations, very disappointing considering the amout of money we paid.

Amazing beach
Christine Tracy C,

Stayed in a junior suite which I would highly recommend, spacious room overlooking pool and beach. All the staff are extremely pleasent and are happy to help, plenty of food for even the most fussiest of eaters. Nothing negative to say about this hotel and would happily return tomorrow.

Clean, friendly with an amazing view.

This place takes pride in its appearance and how they treat the guests. Floors were immaculate, heck the staff was even polishing the trash can lids. Food was ok, variety was good. I actually thought the buffet was the best bet. The only thing I️ would change is how early most bars closed. Especially the ones by the pool. However, they have the adult Rui right next store for extended night life. My wife and I️ would definitely come back.

Nice resort, terrible service

The condition of the hotel is very good. The rooms are a good size, clean, and well maintained. The bed is not the most comfortable but not terrible. Showers are great. They maintain the common areas and the rooms nicely. The food is good for an all inclusive. Nothing amazing but overall very good. Same with the drinks. The pool is one of the best we saw in Aruba. Big so you are not overcrowded and plenty of chairs. Good spots for shade too. WiFi was ok, spotty at times but worked. They gym is decent, nothing special but was enough to get a daily workout in. The staff is terrible. Very rude and not helpful. Jonathan at the front desk has to be the worst. Not sure why they keep him employed. But all staff is slow and not friendly. We book an ocean view room and received the attached photo for a view. The hotel would not refund the extra charge for ocean view booking or accommodate a different room. Poor customer service. Would not return because of the service but cannot provide a poor review because the property is nice.

One happy Island

Together with a friend we Stayed here for almost two weeks. Before arriving here we checked some of the reviews to see what to expect. First of all about the staff working here: they are all so nice and friendly. Even though I have read some comments about the staff expecting tip, it is really not the case. Especially some employees worth mentioning (for us at least) Javier and Billy from the sports bar. Every morning and during lunch we had our coffee here and a nice chat with the staff. Next, some nice ladies (two of them Carmen and Shahafra? [can be wrong :)]) who worked during breakfast and lunch. They always knew what we wanted to drink and where we were usually sitting. Always smiling and asking how we like it etc. Food: I can’t say that there is no variation in the meals(like some of the people who mentioned this), because everyday you had something else at the buffet. Yes of course the same ingredients usually but always some other dishes/meals and theme buffets. The beach is awesome, beautiful and clean. We have been to baby beach and it is not comparable to ours. We have a really beautiful sunset over here. Another plus are the beach and pool attendants. They will always bring you the beach chairs. Sometimes it is crowded and we took our chairs ourselves. But one day he saw us and one of them said: “no, you don’t have to work, You are on vacation.” Unfortunately when you wish to lay on the beach and have a spot under the umbrellas, you will have to wake up early. This is something that the management or employees can’t change. This is the way it goes. I love the animation team. There are a lot of options during the day but in the evening there are some professional dancers and their shows are superb. Some of them we have seen twice and they were still wonderful. Rooms: we had an upgrade to a junior suite when we arrived at the hotel. Probably someone wasn’t happy about the location because in the night it can be loud due to the live shows. It was the second floor in the adjacent building (so not the main building). The room is big, nice and clean. You also have a mini bar with Bacardi, rum, vodka, beer, coke, soda etc etc.. Vanessa from the cappuccino bar is also really sweet and kind. Every evening she already knew what we would like to have. That’s why we never had to wait for our coffee. The waiters from all other bars for example the pool bar or Barry’s bar, where the evening show starts are friendly and we never had to wait for the drinks. They always ask what you would like to have. On the day of our departure we had the possibility to take a shower in a private room so that after we finished swimming and going to the gym we were fresh to go. There is also a gym which we used daily and it is clean, the AC is on which is nice. For guests who want more action or want to explore the island, there are enough options to visit spots. For example a bus stops at the hotel. Jeep tours, atv or renting a car. Our last comment about the security guards at the exit, when you wish to walk along the beach. They really look at you and check if you wear a Riu bracelet so no unwanted “guests” enter the complex, Which made us feel safe. Thank you all who made our stay worthwhile. You were all great and attentive, with a smile on every employee’s face. Every possible wish we had, they fulfilled it.. I will definitely recommend Riu palace to my friends. The quote “one happy island” is definitely true..

The friendly and accommodating staff made all of the difference!

I don't have anything really negative to say. Yes, they're undergoing some room renovations, but the finished product is just fine. It's a standard room -- nothing too luxurious, but do you care? You're in Aruba, you have a GREAT view, and everything you need! So don't allow that to scare you. My only complaint about the actual room was that the a/c was too cold, and the shower temps too hot, both without an easy way to fix it. But again, I was in Aruba and didn't allow it to bother me much. Now for the good.... From the front desk, to the bartenders and waitstaff, to the entertainment folks at the pool, etc. (all paid to make sure you have a good time), do just that. If you need anything, ask! The buffet food was good! Breakfast was steady. No complaints. I recommend at least one visit to the steakhouse restaurant. The name escapes me. When at the pool bar or the one across the way, do yourself a favor and ask for Elsa and her special drink. It's made with white rum, club soda, and an assortment of fruit juices (all without being too sweet, which is something I cannot really tolerate). She'll serve it with a smile, as will all of the bar staff. Do yourself another favor and either pack a tall Tervis-type cup or buy one at the giftshop so that you don't get your drinks in the small plastic standard cups, and you'll thank me. You can sip slowly by the pool or on the beach, or even in the sea, without frequently running back for more. The last favor/s you should treat yourselves to are the day excursions (snorkeling, etc.) -- see the guys under the white cabana with the brown roof (Peterson, Alex, and Daniel) and they'll hook you up. The sunset cruise is also wonderful -- but we went thru De Palm for that. The boat leaves out of the cute pier bar (Bugaloe's -- super fun place, btw -- eat and drink there at least once when there's a band) that's not a part of the resort (you'll have to pay for your meals, but it's worth it). Also, please go to the front desk, ask for Orlando, and have him arrange for you to eat dinner at the Flying Fishbone -- it's on the other side of the island, but it's worth the trip! Also ask him to arrange a taxi through Timothy -- he's a sweetheart of a kid and will tell you all about Aruba that you care to know. Tell him Kelley and Kim sent ya! In closing, know that you're safe "off-campus" from the resort....something you can't say about Jamaica, Mexico, etc. Walk into town with a friend, pony up to the Sopranos bar (for the entertainment alone), then walk across to South Beach (an outdoor dance bar), take a salsa lesson, then dance with the locals. Have fun in paradise! You're going to love it!
