Great Family Vacation
TIMOTHY W.
Jun 27 2018
The RIU Palace resort was just as beautiful as it looked on-line. Check-in went very smoothly and we were directed quickly to our room. Our Junior Suite with ocean view did not disappoint! It was on the top floor with a big walk-out balcony that had stunning views of the beach and ocean. The sunset each night was breathtaking! Our room was fine for the three of us, our son slept on the foldout coach. The bathroom was spacious enough to easily change in, and the double sinks were a nice touch. The restaurants and bars were easy to find. The food was typical of all-inclusive resorts, but we felt it was the best of the other resorts we have visited. The lobby bar served the best drinks, the pool bar the worst. They seemed too busy to really pay attention to what they were making. I swear my dirty monkey cocktail was just chocolate milk, you couldn't taste any alcohol. The strawberry margaritas were awful too, just sugar water and tequila. Our son really liked the coffee shop and pastries. The beach was clean and great to spend the afternoon. We always found a lounger and never felt crowded. The night entertainment needed some work, lots of bad acting and singing. The poolside entertainment was much better and fun to watch. Overall a great family vacation!

Arriving at the Aruba Airport (transportation)
TIMOTHY B.

So upon arrival we were told as always, "look for the Apple representative in the floral shirts". We've had excellent service with Apple vacations before. In the Aruba airport there are not "apple representatives". We asked "funjet" where the Apple Reps were and they responded "outside - yellow shirts" but....it's called DePalm Tours Aruba. We were leary to go on this bus thinking it was something else but they said "yes apple, youre good", so we and others got on the bus. A little confusing but yes they did get us to our hotel. In the hotel instead of an "Apple vacations desk", it was DePalm Tours. We did book an excursion thru them and also they did give us our transportation back to the airport. No problems at all, just confusion as to why there were no "apple floral shirts", yellow banana shirts.

Riu Palace was an excellent choice. Close to restaurants and shopping. Everyone was so kind. Food was delicious! Only complaint beds are very hard and not enough restrooms close to beach and pool.

I understand that shit happens and this time it was the weather conditions. No biggie. We can not control the weather so its understandable. What my issue was this time was the Riu Palace Aruba Resort and De Palms Tours. First the agent Geordina Vrolijk who was the lady sitting at the De Palms desk at the Rui, was completely rude to us. She was arguing with someone on the phone and made us wait at least 5 minutes and also miss our first bus because of the issues we were having. But the way things turned out then its a good thing we missed the bus. Second when we did speak with her, she was demanding that we get on the next bus cause her butt would be on the line. Even though our flight was delayed like 8 hours. Then when we tried to ask her what we should do all she said was to figure it out and then get on the bus with our ticket. She acted like we were an inconvenience to her and she didn't want to bother with us at all. Thirdly i went to go talk to her after our flight had been canceled She was again on the phone arguing with someone and had put her sign up on the desk that said "closed". this was around 3:20 PM. I then said screw it and walked away. After i walked away form her desk i then went over to the check in desk at the Riu to see if they had a room for one night that we could have and was pretty much dismissed. The guy told me "No, We are completely booked. You will have to go else where. " He then said maybe the Riu next door has some availability to go see them" and I was dismissed. Now, We are stuck in Aruba with no room and our flight was still unknown at that time. I was angry, stressed and just worn out. We have went to the Riu Twice now and should have been three times but the first time was the fire. and we had planned on coming back next year"2019" and I was amazed on how they weren't even trying to help us out. I was so pissed off I then told Patric go to next hotel over "Divi Resorts" to see what they can do for us. They tried earlier in the week to get us to stay with them next time but at that time we told them "no, we like the Riu". Well, I was not happy with the Riu so he walked over to Divi Resorts and explained our situation. They gave us a room for just the cost of the taxes. $40 And was going to have it ready for us in 1 hour. Divi helped us and the Riu didn't want to bother with us. Another thing I want to mention is the the Riu needs to improve on the beds. They are hard as a rock and the pillows are flat.

We had made our reservation in the adult only but when we arrived we were put in family (which was fine) I did wonder if there was a price difference. The coupons are a joke may be in your letter don't stress so much that you give a credit for $600.00-$700.00 credit to use at resort. We wanted to have a couples spa day and the coupon was $50.00 for the most expensive couples spa. Talking to other guests no one really used the coupons and were not impressed with the coupons. For the music at the pool maybe so english music every once in a while. All in all we loves the Rui and was very pleased with the staff.

We were 10 people (7 Kids, 4 Adults) and let me tell you, the best place you can ever go to is this resort. Of corse we would be open to try a new one but, the Riu Palace is my personal favourite. This is our friends 5th year and my 2nd year. Food- amazing!!! Especially for an all- inclusive hotel. The steak house is amazing, the Japanese is amazing but personally, the gourmet and Italian are a waste of time and are both definatly not my favourite! Overall for good, I’d give it a 8.5/10 Location: beautiful! In the middle of everything! The second you walk off the resort, which is compleatly safe, you enter the shops, restaurants and booths. Which is a 10/10! Beach: beautiful! Crystal clear waters and clear sky’s. of course they will have their occasional rain but it lasts no longer than 2 minutes maybe even less. The only thing that was a con to the beach was the chairs and palapas. You’d have to get up around 6:00am. for a guaranteed spot. Overall, 9/10 Some restaurants off the resort... - flying fish bone - Hostsria Da’ Vittorio - Smokey Joe’s - Gianni’s - Amore Mio - Gelatissimo (gelato place) We would definatly come back to this resort and Aruba in general.

Bad start.........But overall Good

The Good: Restaurants were excellent- Crystal: Nice lobster risotto, nice filet of beef, good fish, excellent ceviche Asian: Great steak over ramen, wonderful tuna tartar, nice tempura Italian: nice appy buffet, delicious osso bucco, excellent cod Steak: Huge lobster tails, nice cold appy Buffet: all the breakfast food and more A+ Seafood night at buffet (king crab, clams, lobster, lobster bisque) A++ Yolanda: waitress at the buffet (A+++++) The Beach: windy, water cool, clean good fishing mullet, bonefish, croakers, pompano (bring a rod) The Bad: C block room was sub par (to be kind). This was not the Junior Suite I had last year in B block. The conditions were beneath what I expect of a RIU hotel. We switched rooms the next day with the help of Sandra but, the unpleasant experience was not what I wanted after a long flight. The Bars: still putting the better liquor under the bar. When a bartender at the pool bar pours your drink under the bar so that you cannot see the bottle, this is not right. Bartenders were courteous but, not at all friendly not engaging as they are in RIU Palace Negril. Music: loud, unchanging, Spanish rap of some sort. Jesus change it up once in a while. Entertainment Staff: Could learn something from the staff in RIU Palace Negri Pool: could use fixing, Cracked tiles are dangerous, Not fixed even after tearing up my toe last year. Empty cups were not picked up enough and often ended up in the pool. Overall: 3 out of 5. Walked to the RIU next door. These problems mentioned above largely do not exist.

About average.

We stayed from August 3rd to the 10th. The hotel staff is incredible, very friendly, and helpful. The only things I would say that needs improvement are the beds, they are incredibly uncomfortable, extremely firm. We didn’t sleep well on them. Alcoholic drinks were okay they used low end liquor in them. If you have been to a couple of Riu all inclusive resorts before you have then been to them all. The food at the a la cart restaurant were not that good, the buffets at breakfast and dinner were better . The breakfast at the Antillas adults only hotel was slightly better. I recommend going there as long as you don’t have kids for breakfast and dinner . If I had to go to Aruba again I would do a European package hotel instead of all inclusive.

...Days of leisure and nights of nonstop entertainment. Dining in both the buffet (don't miss the frog legs served on Mondays) and in the specialty restaurants (beef tenderloin served daily) are well above the standard you would find on a mainstream cruise line. Drinks served pool side tend to be of the frozen variety ; those at the indoor bars are made to order (try the b52...layered of course !). At least one bar (the sports bar) is open all night, The customer base would best be described as "international". And the cost...well it ain't cheap (about $300 per person daily after taxes). But as they say, you only go around once in life !

Paradise holiday

I have just returned from a 2 week holiday at the Riu Palace Aruba. We travelled from 26th July 2018 to 9th August 2018. We was greeted with a glass of champagne upon arrival to the hotel, the very friendly gentleman on the door to the hotel took our luggage and placed it with everybody's else as our room was still being cleaned. They took us immediately down to the Buffett to grab something to eat and after we had finished eating the wide variety of foods we were able to get into our room. The room was very spacious, very clean and the AC was a treat as it was so hot when we arrived. The view from our room was breath taking specially of am evening when the sun was setting over the sea. We had a pool view with a view of the beach also. Gorgeous! We had fresh towels twice a day, and our mini fridge was stocked up daily too. The maids were also very friendly. The pool area is perfect for all ages. There was hardly any children in our first week but the second week alot more children arrived which was no issue as they all had respect not to splash people or get on people's nerves. The bartenders at the swim up pool are great, they remember your drinks order, they have waitresses and waiters that come to your sunlounger so you don't need to move if you don't want to. The entertainment team are also great with everyone, they interact with the kids as well as the Adults. I would like to say a special about out to Jessica, Andrea & Wesley who had us in fits of laughter daily! Wesley and my other half " Dan from England" got on like a house on fire and the staff were always accommodating towards us. The room service is great after a heavy drunken night out and the staff do mind bringing you food at 3am which is what we done a few times. The alcohol is all local unless you ask for branded which again is not an issue. We ate at all the restaurants on the complex apart from Kystral as my other half did not like the menu. You cannot fault the food at any of the places! Their is so much to choose from at the Buffett and the restaurants all have such amazing and delicious choices also. The steakhouse is perfect and steaks are massive!! The only downside I would say to this holiday was our TUI travel agent who we booked the holiday with explained to us that the flamingos roamed freely on the beaches... This is NOT true! In order too see them you have to pay $125 per person as they are located at a private island owned by the renaissance hotel in the capital Orjanestad. We was informed by another family at the RIU to look at booking.com and stay over at the renaissance. I booked to stay for 1 night in our last week. We paid $278 including taxes and this gave us the opportunity to check in, take the 8 minute water taxi to the flamingo island, we spent a few hours there, went back on the water taxi, showered, took a walk into the town which is disappointing as all the shops shut at 7pm. But the next day even though you have chceked out they still allow you access to the flamingo island. So it is worth staying over as you get longer and more for your money. They do say you can't take food or drink on the island as they want you to buy from the bar on the beach. But we took the contents of our mini bar from the Riu in a beach bag and they didn't say anything. Honestly this holiday was a 15 out of 10! Stunning views, friendly staff, clean rooms, loads of food & drink! I cannot fault anything... apart from the disgusting $47 exit fee to leave the country... We paid £6300 for 2 weeks and then had to pay that on top which again TUI never informed us about!! Other than that it's paradise!
