PAMPERING/RELAXATION

If you're tired of the hustle and bustle when you take a vacation--then this is the place to go. From the moment you arrive in the airport-they seek you out and absolutely take full care of you. They usher you to the correct bus take you to the hotel, handle your luggage and you don't have to do anything but give your room #to them. Champagne and drinks are ready for consumption. Smiles are abundant friendly faces everywhere and people waiting to pamper you. With six restaurants and many bars with music and cool breezes you can't go wrong. we found the Atlantis Buffet food exceptionally cooked to perfection (rib-eye and kc strip steaks--crab meat already taken from the shells) displayed fruits and vegetables in abundance as well as Italian pasta made to your request and the Beef Wellington was absolutely delicious. if you get there early enough the banana pancakes are really to die for. Every where you turn they have very original mixed drinks including the swim up pool bar. lots of music and fun things to do in the afternoons and evenings. This is the first time we weren't ready to come home. Looking forward to next year!!!!

The location and food at this hotel is excellent. Rooms are very well appointed but not 5 star. The staff were very very helpful and friendly. It is a very large hotel and depending where your room is it can be noisy. We had an amazing holiday and the sea view was exceptional.

Second visit

Just returned from our second visit at the Riu Palace in Aruba. The hotel has gone through a renovation since we were there last. The lobby, buffet restaurant, fitness centre and restaurant near the beach were all updated. Everything looks much more modern. The lobby's decor is a little odd (pink paint with zebra print in various spots) but everything else looked great. Food at the Riu Palace is good for an all inclusive. They buffet always had something for everyone, i would suggest eating lunch at the main buffet as opposed to the Nautilus restaurant near the pool/beach as there is more variety. We ate at the Krystal, Japanese and Steakhouse a la carte restaurants. The steakhouse wasn't just ok, the other two were good with the Japanese being my favorite. We spent most days at the beach as opposed to the pool. You can get up early to get a palapa, (I did this for three mornings). On nights when I stayed up later we were able to get chairs on the beach the next day, just positioned them under a palm tree for some shade. Aruba is windy so the heat from the sun can be deceiving. Make sure to wear your sunblock! I would also recommend bringing towel clips for your beach chairs so that your towel doesn't blow away. They can be purchased at one of the shops at the Riu Antillas next door, or one of the beach stores along the boardwalk to joins the hotels along the beach. We had a partial oceanview room on the tenth floor that faced the Antillas. It was a gorgeous view! Again it is windy in Aruba so be careful what you leave on the balcony. I lost a bathing suit because it blew away! Our room was very clean and the fridge was replenished every day with bottled water and canned beverages (beer and pop.) The location of the Riu is perfect! it is only 20 minutes from the airport, and a short 10 minute walk to local shops, bars and restaurants which is nice if you want a change of scenery. It is very safe in Aruba so you can go off the resort and explore and not have to worry. I would definitely recommend this staying at this hotel. For an inclusive it is quite good. Aruba is expensive, however if you consider the benefits (close to the airport, good food and water, safety) it is worth the extra investment. You are guaranteed to have a wonderful holiday!

Nice treat to celebrate my 40th Birthday.........

My husband booked a week as a surprise for my 40th Birthday. We absolutely love the Caribbean so he thought it would be a lovely treat to try anther island. The island itself is nice but definitely not the prettiest. Sadly its quite build up so the skyline is in my opinion ruined. Some of the hotels are a real eyesore, including the Riu Palace. Its just too big and loud! If you are looking for a secluded, tranquil get away, this isn't it. My husband booked a sea view room, we were in the main building and it was so loud in the eveings and throughout the night. The view was spectacular, its just a shame that some of the guests think its ok to slam doors and talk in their loudest voices at 4am! The food was nice, breakfast was my absolute favourite. Some os the staff were very friendly and helpful, whilst others looked bored and really couldn't be bothered to serve drinks etc let aone smile! Other islands are more friendly and welcoming. We had optics in our room but the drinks were not any that we would useually drink so we asked reception to change one to dark rum. They said no, as its not their policy. This was very disappointing as other Riu hotels we have stayed in were more than happy to accommodate. Reception staff were not helpful or friendly. We got chatting to another English couple who said that they had changed their optics for them, very disappointing. The sea and beach by far was the best and main attraction, absolutely stunning. I am glad we tried Aruba but we wouldn't go back.

Not comparable to other Riu experiences...

I have routinely stayed at Riu Resorts and wanted my honeymoon in Aruba to be no different. I was promised various Honeymoon inclusions for my stay; none of which were provided. The service was mediocre and the change to open seating at the restaurants made it nearly impossible to eat at one of the specialty restaurants if you didn't arrive at exactly 6pm. The food, however, was top notch and the hotel itself was clean. If you didn't have another Riu experience to compare it to, you probably wouldn't notice the difference. I, however, was let down with this resort. I had expectations from other resort stays that were not consistent with my Aruban experience.
