we were a party of 4 who paid for two separate rooms. We arrived pretty early so we knew we had to wait to get in our rooms. We arrived about 1030/11 am. We check in but couldn't get the keys until 3, which was fine. We came back at a little after 3 only to be told it was going to be a wait because the rooms weren't ready, unacceptable because you had us in the system and knew we were waiting to go to our rooms when we were checked in at 11am. Then after the wait, we were given keys to one room and told that our room changed because the original room given still was not cleaned. My family for the other room was told she still had to wait and maybe she should put her stuff in the other room until hers was ready. we were very, very disappointed with this service

Great (and not so common) combination of beach & snorkeling

Setting is superb with hotel rooms very close to pools and sandy beach that is very swimable and some really good snorkeling right from the beach. Big waves break a few hundred feet off shore and smaller more friendly waves come to the beach. Both pools have swim-up bars that are a stones throw from the beach plus there is a beach level bar in between the two pool areas that both have swim-up bars. Staff is very friendly and helpful. We observed some people giving tips but generally it was not expected for good service. The entertainment staff was highly talented and very personable interacting in fun ways every day and night. Location is 1.5 hrs from airport but it allows you to see some of the country beyond the resort. While some might prefer reservations for resort restaurants, we prefer the flexibility of making it up as we go. Considering it IS a vacation, we really liked being schedule free!

We have stayed at a Riu before and liked the resort, we were very disappointed when we arrived at the Ocho Rios Riu Resort. No room service, cannot take food back to your room, no waitress staff at pool or beach and hotel ran down and old. We found out while staying there they are closing end of April for five months of renovations. That explains everything. We would not have stayed here had we known.

I am a exclusive RIU traveler and this is the worst place I have ever stayed. I was a travel agent for 12 years so keep in mind I have traveled a lot. Hotel was run down and had construction going on right outside our room. Staff was beyond rude and inappropriate not only to my group but to many others. I can not overlook rude. They purposely tried to make the hotel sound mismanaged. Food was very good and about the only thing positive I can say. Our room was continually not cleaned or re-supplied with towels. When I asked for clean towels they were not provided. Asked many times with no response. Mini-frig in room was not replenished and when I asked it was met with no response. Finally replenished the evening before we left the next morning. Two days no hot water throughout the facility. Two days no beer anywhere at the resort. Three days none of the bars had tomato juice for bloody marys, two days no bananas at the bars for drinks but tons of bananas at the morning buffet. You'd think they could figure that out. We were told on more than one occasion there was no ice and that all the ice machines were broke and ice had to be obtained from another resort. Didn't matter if you tipped or not staff was rude (and I tip well) Power went out several times.

The rooms are a bit dated but you can't beat the view at the resort! There were good food options and the nightly entertainment was good.

We have been to this resort a few times now, and we have always been pleased. We actually got married at this resort 9 years ago, and spent our anniversary there this year. We are excited to see what the future renovations bring to the resort.

We loved the beach, and your entertainment crew were wonderful. Upon check-in, however, the female clerk didn't even make eye contact with us. Some staff, mostly in the sports bar, were downright rude. Loved the food, rooms need a little updating but overall a great trip. Lots of pot smoke was distracting, not sure that is fixable. Thank you!

Overall the trip was great. The beds were hard, all other resorts we have stayed at give you the shampoo, conditioner and lotion in the bathrooms we did not get that. Also, no coffee pot in the room, which I thought was kind of different. We were told the resort would be shutting down temporarily soon for remodel and addition of a water park.

We were disappointed to see that the pools closed at 6:00. The same drink was made differently by each bartender...they never tasted the same. Mammee Bay Restaurant - Steak was really good two nights, with a flavored rub. Last night, they did not have the rub on the steak. Why??? Mr. Bryan, our waiter at this restaurant was excellent. Found that wait staff was either very friendly and attentive or would not smile and non-attentive...no in between. Cups left out early evening were still in the same place in the morning, no one had picked them up. Venue for performances was small for the number of people at the resort. First night we had nowhere to sit. The Apple Representative we had at the resort was very helpful and pleasant. All Apple Reps., at the airport, etc. were great! Overall an enjoyable vacation.

Had a wonderful time at RIU. The entertainment crew was definitely the best!! Beds were very hard. Need to update mattresses. Also, the women at front desk are not so nice to Americans, but found the men a lot more friendly. Met Bird Man the first day and was very nice and helpful. The shows were wonderful!

I shan't bother saying much in my review as the hotel will be closing for refurbishment/extension at the end of April so all previous postings will be void. I will say however that our room 1275 on the deluxe side-as mentioned previously- absolutely stank of mould. It did get better the more we left our patio doors open but....not good. There is ample storage, a mini bar and fridge, iron/board. The furniture is chunky and brown but that goes with the colonial style of the building. Our friends had a few issues with their first room before finally being moved to another only to find the TV didn't work. This took several days to remedy. The hotel is massive with well kept areas and the staff do make an effort to keep it so. The beach is lovely tho not somewhere to walk in an evening unless you want to be moithered to buy weed. We had no problem with food in any of the restaurants tho we mostly ate in St. Ann's with a special mention for lovely Seyon our waiter, a rare breed who knew exactly what to do and where to be for his guests. Sorry, we thought the entertainment was rubbish in the evening, far too loud and not much variety apart from the crew mostly dancing and lip-syncing to music. The all-white beach party was no better with 30 seconds of a song shouted over before it began again with 30 secs of another. The resort is very popular for weddings, up to 4 a day and also very loud Americans! It took over 2hrs for our transfer back to the airport, waiting for unready guests in other resorts...aah!

Must Read if you only drink sugar free drinks! Overall good, but not the best RIU hotel, Stunning location, Service was

I went with my mum for a relaxing holiday, this was our first time in Jamaica and we both fell in love with the country. We were on the deluxe side, there is very minimal difference to be honest between deluxe and standard. The deluxe side is quieter than the standard side and you can apparently visit more restaurants as a deluxe member. The Good: •The location was excellent. The resort is actually in St Ann just outside of Ochos Rios & is roughly a 20 min drive to all of the attractions in Ochos Rios & 30 min drive to the nearest shopping centre if needed. •The beach was stunning (always a main priority for me when booking a holiday). There is some coral reef near and past the line of buoys, with a decent variety of fish to see snorkeling. If your a confident swimmer and make sure you pay attention to your surroundings (boats and water-sports equipment are back and forth) you can get away with swimming quite far out from the buoys to see more of the reef with no hassle from the lifeguards, but obviously be careful and sensible! •They made an effort to keep the beach shore clear from seaweed thorough the day as quite a lot did wash up. •The jerk chicken hut on the beach should not be missed! •The buffet offers a decent variety of food in my opinion. The desserts looked stunning but did not taste of much in my opinion (however that was probably for the best in my case lol) I thought the food in the Chinese restaurant was really nice. There was a Japanese restaurant and a gourmet restaurant but neither appealed to us so can't provide feedback for them. •The hotel had 2 large pools, however we love the beach so did not go in the pools once, on appearance they looked really nice. •Resort entertainment has never been our thing either, but they offered a lot of options for day and evening entertainment that did appeal to other guests. We did find it too loud if we tried to have a drink near the lobby bar (but we are both hard of hearing to be fair) Thankfully we didn't find it too loud if we went back to our rooms early but that could be the benefit of the deluxe side! •The maintenance of the gardens was excellent and well kept. •The majority of the staff was helpful, friendly and polite. The Bad: •The issue I found most frustrating was the lack of effort to accommodate my diabetes (Type 1) I can only drink sugar free drinks which was water or diet coke. As default everywhere, the mini fridge is normally filled with normal coke, and I do get sick of drinking water all of the time. I asked reception our first day to change the coke in our fridge to diet, their response being they would do it immediately. It took 3 days before they changed it (this includes me asking every day) Then half way through the holiday they restocked the fridge with normal coke again! They said they made a note on the computer system as well so the other staff probably didn’t bother checking. It may sound petty though I did pay a lot of money to stay here and I don’t even drink alcohol so it’s not like I was eating and drinking all day getting my absolute moneys worth from staying all inclusive. •Other than the bars, the drink machines in every single dinning area (buffet and restaurants) ran out of diet coke on our 2nd day and was empty the majority of our stay (10 days)! Not good enough! Ultimately it does not matter if your diabetic or not, people should be able to access diet drinks if they want. That issue was a real let down for me. •The TV in our room did not work from the start, on arrival we did not care, as we would be out all day however the staff insisted on asking if everything was ok in our rooms. We mentioned the TV and they were adamant it would be fixed by the end of day. It was not. It became a bad joke in the end, a member of staff would ask if everything is ok, we would mention the TV again (and lack od diet coke), they would always say they would sort it and that we could rely on them, then nothing changed! That’s what annoyed us, insisting to help if needed, promising they would sort it out and then not doing anything. Towards the end of the holiday, if we were asked if everything was ok with our rooms, we just said yes. It was never fixed. On leaving, we did let them know again for the sake of the next guests and the staff apolagised, but again, I don’t think it will be resolved. •The shower was not the nicest, with lumps of plaster in it to cover previous cracks and messes I guess. I found that to be off putting, however we were aware before choosing the hotel it needed refurbishing, so that can sort of be forgiven. •One day we thought it was someone smoking above us, actually I think there was something burning in the electrics near the bathroom, as later that day we had no electricity. It was sorted thankfully before the end of day however only the dim light in the bathroom worked from there on (rubbish light) They left loads of plaster mix on the floor in the bathroom as well which was not appreciated and the cleaners kept ignoring it the following days. •The majority of staff were polite and friendly, those that were not I did try not take to heart as it could be like any day we are in having a bad day at work, and the hotel will be closing for refurbishment and extending, leaving most staff without a job for a few months. Like most of the Caribbean, it is stunning but poverty is widespread with a lack of employment opportunities.

Our first deluxe sea room had some issues but we were allocated another room the next day that was very satisfactory. On the whole this hotel is very nice and we would go back again. The food was excellent and the jerk hut on the beach is great for a snack at lunch. The hotel is situated right on a lovely beach and you could always get a lounger up until about 11am. The pools are great but the loungers fill up a bit sooner than the beach. The evening entertainment was fantastic and the shows were very professional, a credit to the hotel are the ladies and gents in the entertainment team.

Please don't book at this resort!!!!!!

Was there on Wednesday 4/4/19 to Sunday 4/9/19 for a family wedding. 52 plus people reserve at the resort. The rooms are not healthy. Dirty mattress, bed linings, roaches, and mold everywhere in the room. I spent four days trying to change rooms but only got the runaround. The PR Manager Carlington Pryce was NOT supportive and just BS me and the other members of the wedding party that experience the same issues. The front desk "customer service" ladies were also nasty like the issues we were experiencing were our fault. This resort is also under construction so all through the night they continue to work, past 8pm.

Visited with my 12 year daughter , we stayed in a deluxe sea view room, this was lovely and spacious with a beautiful view of the pool and sea , the hotel grounds were kept immaculate, all the staff were excellent and couldn’t do enough for you, we never struggled to get a sun lounger and there was plenty of them, the food was good although I found never red hot!!! At the bars you could get any drink you wanted and it was great to try all the different cocktails, The hotel is in a great location for all the activities we wanted to do, I would definitely recommend this hotel and will definitely be returning
