Downhill!

We went to the Riu in Ochos Rios in 2005 when it opened and it was amazing. Everything is pretty much exactly the same except the hotel shows it's age due to poor upkeep. The food is also not nearly as good as it used to be. The main pool area was in a state of disrepair with the area around the pool perimeter literally in crumbles. Both pools has the water levels lowered to make repairs and none of the jets on the hot tubs worked....

I stayed at the RIU Ocho Rios and it was a good trip for my golden 22nd birthday. There were 9 of us 3 to a room the stay was good but the only issue is that we all paid full price and they only gave WIFI Access too two people in the room which really was the down fall of the entire trip as we depend on the wifi. We had to pay an additional $30 which should have been outlined by Apple Vacations when we booked the reservation. Overall the trip was good. There are drivers present 24 hours a day which was good. There was lots of night life and plenty of food/drinks.

I have nothing but positive things to say about my overall experience. From the time we arrived until the time we left everyone was so friendly and accommodating. The resort was clean and the view was absolutely beautiful! The food at every restaurant was delicious, especially the Chinese place where we ate 3 different times.

The hotel premises were not clean enough. Pool was cleaned once during our stay. The main buffet was not open during lunch, and other restaurants didn't have enough space and food variety.

As an older couple, we planned on being live-in vacationers most of the time. Service and overall food quality were excellent, but the echos in hallways on into the early a.m. hours meant that the comfort level was not what if might have been. We had a great field trip with Sebert, our guide, to a working plantation, and for a younger, more noise tolerant clientele, this trip to Ocho Rios might indeed be just what these folks are looking for.

Really good place. Walk right out your room to 2 nice pools and a huge beach front. Water is very clear. We thought it was well worth the price.

We paid for a upgrade which included more options for dinner which were great, however, the jacuzzi tub that we paid for did not work. We didn't want to bother the hotel staff about the problem, but the room itself was beautiful.

When traveling it's the "little" details that can make or break a nice vacation. To start with, there is a secret about the in-room safe. They don't tell you at check-in that you have to ask for the lock and the key. The room door key is a big metal key that didn't work half the time and the safe key didn't work half the time. No help with luggage when arriving or leaving. They need 4 times more employees to help all the people wandering around trying to figure things out. Standing in line for restrauants isn't fun either. No reservations and there is only one sit-down restrauant we could use. Found out we had the wrong color wrist band to qualify us to eat anywhere else. No pool side service for drinks. The glasses, and in some cases dishes just piled up all day. People were taking pictures of overflowing garbage cans around the pool and on the beach. Which attracted big birds. BUT, the sunshine was great. We discovered the "waiting list game" for restrauants by accident. There is no shampoo or lotion in the rooms and out king bed was 2 double beds made up separately and pushed together. The only restrooms pool side was inside a restrauant and when in an evening restrauant you had to go all the way to the bar and entertainment area. No security guards or management watching staff congregate and talk for hours. On our last morning, witnessed a young family with 3 kids struggling to clean up after a cereal bowl crashed to the floor. A lady from another table handed them some napkins and one server handed that some napkins. The mother went to change and the dad while holding the baby was trying to clean up shards of bowl and oatmeal while the other 2 kids stayed seated. Really? That's unacceptable. My spa treatments were the hi-lite of my 7 days thanks to Diana. We put our towels out and went for breakfast and they were taken. Yet the apple representative told us we didn't need to carry our "keys" around with us. Just leave your stuff on a chair and go do what you want. Never going back to Jamaica.

PLEASE IGNORE ALL THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS!

PLEASE IGNORE ALL THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS! Firstly people get paid to write negative and positive reviews on trip advisor. It is a job so that people stay at different hotels etc to keep up with competition. I viewed trip advisor a week before I came and I was worried after reading all the negative reviews. However I reminded myself of all the bad reviews I have read of other hotels I have visited and they were fine so I decided I would be the judge myself. I have travelled all over the world and have stayed at a variety of different places so I would say my review will be honest and fair. I went with TUI. The hotel is about an hour & 45 mins from the airport. The check in was slow but lots of people had arrived. We were given a map and towel cards and the receptionist was informative. We were upgraded for free to the delux room. The room was really nice and did not smell of mould as others had written. The beds were huge. I suffer from a bad back and I had one of the best sleeps. There is a mini bar which is stocked daily. Balcony and view overlooking the beach and pool. I cannot complain about the room everything was fine. Air conditioning worked very well. There are toiletries in the bathroom which are also 're stocked daily. The tv is flat screen, another comment people made. The balcony has chairs and table. The wardrobe has a lot of hangers. The food was really nice. I am a fussy eater and lactose intolerant and I found there was plenty to eat. The buffet would cater to everyone as there is a large variety. There are also different restaurants that you can eat at. The drinks are great and the alcohol is decent. Not watered down like some hotels. The entertainment was fantastic. One of the best I have seen. Only bad thing I will say is there isn't enough seating so you have to arrive early if you want a seat. The TUI rep was informative. We paid to get a trip to the markets which worked out cheaper than a taxi. The hotel shop is also cheaper than what we paid for things outside of the hotel. All in all the hotel is lovely. I am glad I didn't pay attention to the other reviews. People love to moan. The hotel is decently priced so what exactly do you want?? Enjoy your holiday if you decide to listen to my review and book it is a must!

Like others, I don’t understand all of the negative reviews. We’ve visited most Caribbean islands and have stayed at many AI resorts. This is our fourth stay at a RIU. Food choices were excellent. I hate buffets but this one was great; actually better than the a la cartes. Staff were 95% friendly and helpful. We were in the deluxe section and rooms were spotless and large. Who cares if the colour scheme is dated! The beach was spectacular and kept very clean. Pools were cold but that was more about the weather. I did feel they lacked on entertainment and communicating what was running. The RIUs in Mexico and the DR had better programming. Shows were far too loud. New Years Eve celebration was fun and the food was amazing! Drinks at Resort were ok but the really crappy cups just don’t appeal. Four of us had a great holiday and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this hotel to friends who are looking for a relaxing vacation. Thanks RIU.

A Wonderful Stay at this Resort

My wife and I enjoyed six nights at this resort in November,2017. It was our first visit and we definitely want to go back. For an all inclusive resort we found that the food selection, freshness, and preparation at the buffet restaurant was a cut above other all inclusive resorts we have stayed at. The staff were very accommodating and helpful with local information. There is a lot of space at this resort and we were always able to find a quiet spot on the beach or by the pool. We used the resorts snorkeling equipment on their beach, and the equipment was top notch. We were assigned a fourth floor room in the deluxe wing which gave us access to the specialty restaurants, which were great. Our wing of the resort also had its own concierge desk which was very convenient when we had questions or needed assistance. Our vacation went by too fast at this resort and we highly recommend the resort.

I will not go back here again!

So my wife and daughter and I plus 9 other of our family members had our first family vacation for the New Years!! (YAY) we all landed different dates but, we landed dec 31 and left Jan 8. I have to say that I been to Jamaica a few times and this resort is by far the worst!! Don’t get me wrong it has some pros to it but hands down waaaay more cons! Night one (new years eve) we asked the server for champagne and glasses, he brought them and we tipped him and my brother and I heard him totally put us down cause he wanted more than what we tipped him! I tell my 8 year old this all the time you get what you get don’t get upset! Most of the staff there seem like they don’t want too be there nor really care to help you.. now I know we have no control for Mother Nature but come on 2.5 days of rain and they had nothing set up for entertainment or games or something?? The hallways were slippery and flooded with all the rain we got.. The slots and arcade was flooded and cold and stink like nastiest! They say this is a 5 star resort lol now way!!! They have no room service I was told you can’t even bring food to your rooms!!??? They have no coffee machine in your room for me that’s kind of something every room should have is a coffee machine! So every morning I had to walk downstairs to get coffee for my room! Now I had a issue with my transfer to the airport and it took 3 days to figure it out and not once did the GM come out at all to explain what was going on. even though I requested to speak to the GM. 3 days never saw the GM once!!! I stayed at the jewel runaway bay and Scott the GM came to meet me and my in laws personally just because we spoke on trip advisor!! I seen Scott talk to as much guests as he could everyday!! Not here at the Riu!! The food was ok certain days was better than others. Don’t get me wrong some staff were amazing!! And I mean amazing!! Shanika made check quick easy and welcoming and Selina at the front you put up with me through those 3 days, people like you make the resort better!! Sabrina the chef that was at the omelette station thanks for your wicked omelettes!! She was sooo nice always extra polite! right mi lady?? Lol Is it wasn’t for these guys our kids would have for sure went nuts!! The entertainment crew!! Crazy jerry, Brains, Kelly, Birdman, and DJ squidward (sorry if it’s not your name the kids call you it) thanks to you guys hands down you guys went over and beyond to make our kids smile and laugh and just have a good time!! Keep up the hard work!! It’s workers like you that give the resort high ratings! I won’t be back and I do not recommend this place
