Great Hotel!
LYNDA B.
Dec 01 2017
I stayed at the Renaissance Hotel with my family over Thanksgiving. It was a great place to stay. It was clean, quiet and overall a nice hotel. It is located near a lot of shops and you can walk to everything. The staff at the hotel were nice and friendly. There was an employee of the hotel, Herbert (may have been management) that kept checking in with us when we saw him. He asked how we liked the hotel, did we like the Island, could he do anything for us. It was nice to have that connection. The pool is a man made beach (there is a regular pool as well)I thought it was fine, my husband would have liked a real beach as he loves to snorkel. My kids (teens) had a great time as well. We felt comfortable and safe. We had a nice vacation.

Great hotel but would never reserve through Apple Vacations again

The hotel was absolutely lovely and the hotel staff were so helpful when Apple Vacations butchered our hotel reservation. According to the hotel, they received our reservation through Apple, told Apple they did not have availability for our entire stay and Apple NEVRR notified us. It took a ridiculous amount of time to check in, I didn't know if we would have to move hotels mid-trip. It just put an overall damper on the week. The roundtrip airport transport was pretty much a joke.

Very disappointed in Apple's arrangements

To start - we waited over 40 mins for transfer to hotel. After 3 calls to Apple pre-departure confirming our reservation is all-inclusive and having paper work from apple confirming all inclusive... Check-in at hotel was long and they could not tell me if it was EP or AI so we ate dinner and breakfast assuming the information from Apple was correct on AI, until hotel rep called us and said no, it was EP and that they will be charging us for meals so far. No Apple reps at resort or on the island to call to speak to about this issue or to book activities on the island Food that we had to pay premium for was BAD and service was poor As a manger at a Travel Agency that regularly recommends Apple to our clients and as a frequent traveler that has had a positive experience with Apple in the past, I cannot completely express my utter disappointment.

Our best december. We did visit this hotel during the christmas and the new year. At both times were served by Wereline. She gave her all to satisfied us. Our compliment to the chefs of Renaissance. The buffet was in one word wonderful.

I travel a lot and this hotel is my favorite. As a Marriott gold, I was upgraded to a wonderful suite. The welcome was amazing (greeted as guest of the day). The food in the various restaurants/bars was good and not too overpriced like most hotels. The location is perfect. The infinity salt-water pool is very nice. This whole island is so relaxing. I wasn't here long enough to spend time in the gym (I ran outside) or play in the casino, but they both looked very nice. The Aveda amenities are wonderful. I will return whenever I am in Curacao! Thank you!

Surprised by how much we liked it

I spent four nights with my family in this hotel — I honestly didn’t expect to enjoy a large chain property as much as we did. Service was excellent, from the doormen to reception staff to restaurant staff. Our room was in a busy location near the pool and Starbucks, but when we were in the room you had no idea there was anyone outside. We couldn’t even hear the AC running yet the room stayed so cool, quiet, and dark that we had to set an alarm to get kids out of bed by 9 AM (kids who are normally up at 6:30 AM). We loved the fake beach (on the 2nd floor!) - the pools were not crowded, there was always chairs and towels available, and the view is gorgeous. We appreciated the free parking so we could explore the island, and location near the historic part of Willemstaad. I regretted booking a rate that did not include breakfast because the buffet was excellent but very expensive - get a room with breakfast included if possible. Also, the mosquitos are fierce at the pool around dusk. Aside from those minor issues, no complaints and we would go back without hesitation.

Traveled half of the world to find out in Curacao where we live we have one of the best hotels, centrally located, nice rooms, a lovely fresh sea water infinity pool with sandy beach, the best view at sea and cruise terminal and last but definitely not least the fabulous service. Pabien Renaissance you make travelers come to dushi Korsou. Great wifi by the way.

Treated Like Royalty at the Renaissance

Before travelling to Curacao, I had a number of questions regarding this hotel specifically and the island in general. I am very grateful for the information I received from Chanteau Ogilvie who is the Guest Experience Manager. Chanteau's emails were extremely helpful and her attention to detail went well beyond any response I have ever received from any hotel. We stayed at the Renaissance in late November / early December and had an amazing time. We were treated like royalty as we received an incredibly warm welcome from Angelique. She was extremely kind and her thoughtfulness continued throughout our entire stay. Alexis was such a joyful person providing us with cold water bottles and transferring our luggage to the room. He carefully went over all the amenities of the hotel which was very much appreciated. Our room was located on the second floor looking out onto the ocean, shops and cruise ships. It was conveniently located as we had easy access to the pool, gym and Starbucks. There is also another Starbucks right outside of the hotel. Our room was nicely supplied with Aveda products, water bottles, blow dryer, bathrobes, coffee maker, mini fridge, and safe. The numbers on the safe illuminated when you touched them which was very helpful, especially in the evening when the room was darker. The staff at the Renaissance are vey kind and want to ensure that you are enjoying yourselves. We received weather update cards and chocolates in our room on a regular basis and on several occasions we were contacted to see if we needed more towels. We were even called on the eve of our departure to see if we required a wake up call or ride arranged to the airport. Our room was very quiet and we could not hear anyone else in the hotel at night. The beds were very comfortable and we slept well, particularly with black out curtains. Wifi worked well and was free. The hotel is centrally in Willemstad on the ocean which is ideal if you plan to explore the island. This is a unique hotel in that a sandy beach has been constructed complete with bar, palapas, salt water infinity pool/beach and fresh water pool. We were located on the second floor so we could literally walk down the hall, turn the corner and be at the beach area in a minute. Please note it is not like a resort beach where you can walk along the beach for a long way or snorkel off the beach. However, it is perfect if you want to swim, relax and have a drink while looking out onto the ocean. Because we rented a car, we spent our days exploring the island and snorkelling at different beaches. We would then come back in the late afternoon to sit on the beach at the hotel, have a swim and watch the sun come down. Each day there were plenty of beach towels at the entrance to the beach area. This hotel also has a gym which we used several times. The gym is a good size and very clean. Thank you to Arlone and Roland who welcomed us "home" each day - such warm greetings each time and the mini Starbucks drinks one day was a great surprise! There is a large lounge area in the main foyer with game tables available. On some evenings there is also entertainment to enjoy. There is a restaurant at the hotel, but we did not eat there. There is also a casino; we went one evening for a brief time to play a few of the slot machines. There is a great variety of shops, restaurants, pubs and movie theatre right outside of the doors of this hotel. Fort Rif has great entertainment and you can easily walk around in the evening and enjoy the nightlife. A very short walk away you can cross the Queen Emma Bridge to Punda. We went here almost every night for dinner. We tried a different restaurant each evening and usually enjoyed an outdoor patio area and listened to local music or watched the illuminated bridge move as the ships passed through. On Thursday nights the whole area really comes alive with everyone coming to Punda for dinner, entertainment and fireworks. On Saturday mornings there is a market to shop at with local foods and products being sold along the water front and in the circular market. We rented a car with Alamo. We booked online ahead of time and the process was seamless. The employees were very polite and helpful. There were 3 of us travelling and we rented a Picanto. We were a little crowded getting all our luggage in and out of the car on the way from and back to the airport, but other than that it was perfect for driving around the island and very easy to park. The bonus of the Renaissance hotel is that the parking is free and there was always a parking spot available. Our little hint was we brought a collapsable cooler bag and a large ziplock bag with us. Each day we filled the ziplock bag with ice and shopped at the local grocery store. We went to a Centrum grocery store and it was amazing. It had everything you could ever hope for ... meats, cheeses, baked goods, fruit, snacks, drinks, personal items ... We packed a lunch each day for the beach and off we went. Also, you may want to bring a little cash to the beach as you can rent chairs and umbrellas very easily at most of them. The Renaissance is perfectly located to explore the island of Curacao. You can enjoy the beach right at the hotel if you don't feel like travelling, you are equadistance to the west and east side of the island if you are taking excursions. Punda is an incredibly short walk in the evening for dinner and entertainment and if you don't feel like walking or it's raining, Fort Rif is right at your doorstep.
