Wonderful Resort.

Booked a last minute trip with husband. After reading reviews, we were expecting an "ok" resort. Room was huge and modern. Very clean. Not sure why people complain about musty smell. This is Mexico. It's extremely humid. Ate all all restaurants. Only had dinner in buffet on lobster night. All meals were very good, which was a pleasant surprise. The drinks were also very good. Spent most of our time at the "quiet" pool. Bar service was excellent there, at the "party" pool and the big bar by the buffet restaurant. Service in restaurants were also excellent. One word of advice would be to make sure you get the room you want when you are checking in. I assumed we would get a king bed, and when we got to our room it was two doubles. Changed rooms the next day, which was a bit painful having to keep going back to the front-desk to be told to come back in an hour. This happened several times throughout the day so it took several hours. My fault.....I should have confirmed upon check-in. Due to this being a last minute booking, we weren't asked what bed we wanted. Anyway........would go back to this resort in a heartbeat.

Best resort ever!

Just got back from a week stay at this wonderful resort. I can’t begin to describe how the staff go out they’re way to make you feel welcome here. We had a swim out room that swam out in to the main pool which was amazing. The entertainment and shows at this resort are top shelf, our favourite was the grease musical at the main theatre. The beach is gorgeous with no shortage of drinks and places to sit. There is also a bbq attached to the beach bar with awesome burgers, dogs, chicken... etc. We tried the Japanese place which was great. The buffet was very very good. There is a 24 hour bar that also has a very tasty cappuccino. The adjoining properties offer many more shops, beaches and restaurants as well. Thank you so much for making our vacation so wonderful. We can’t wait to get back next year.

Great location but food was average at best

Room was beautiful and location was great. Food was average at best. Very little quality for lunch and breakfast buffet. Mostly fried or greasy options. Dinner options were average but customer service was poor. Was turned away several times for dinner saying it was a 30 to 45 min wait with open tables everywhere. 2 main reasons for going all inclusive are food quality and service and both need improvement.

Pleasant Stay. Only 4-Star Resort.

This is the 7th trip to Mexico for my wife and me at various all-inclusive resorts. Most recently, we stayed at the 5* Excellence Riviera Cancun and the 5* Riu Palace Cancun ... the Platinum Yucatan Princess is in reality only 4* and does not compare well to the other resorts. The Platinum Yucatan Princess grounds and architecture quite beautiful and well-maintained, but not so much elegant. We were in a blandly-decorated Junior Deluxe Swim-out suite, which was quite spacious, with a king bed, sitting area, small table/chairs, ~40" cable TV, minibar, coffee maker, double sinks, double rain-head shower stall and separate bathtub. The room led out to a patio area directly into a longish, narrow pool, with 2 chairs and 2 fixed-shaped loungers that were hard and not comfortable ... we actually requested/received standard adjustable sunbeds instead (so did other people). The room only came with 3 small bottles of cheap, non-branded liquor (250ml rum, 200ml tequila, 150ml vodka) and the minibar is sparsely stocked (2 cans beer, 2 cans club soda, 2 bottles water, few bottles of soft drink). Breakfast was buffet the same every day. Lunch was buffet with a few daily variations. Dinner choices were buffet, Aroma (a la carte international), Tao (teppanaki by reservation or a la carte japanese), Bruschetta (a la carte Italian), Rodeo Grill (a la carte steak/meat), Skylights (extra $$$$ that we did not try). A few times, they had BBQ outdoors or food by the main pool, which we did not try. In general, food in the a la carte was excellent and the buffet food was good, but not as lavish as other resorts. Only on Thursday was there lobster in the buffet, which were actually lagostinas. There are bars (makes frozen drinks, espresso/capucinno) always nearby, a theatre, a few shops and both indoor and outdoor lounge/sitting areas. There is a spa and a well-equipped gym. To be a 5* resort, the Platinum Yucatan Princess has to improve in a number of areas: more welcoming staff everywhere (i.e., ola and smiles from everyone), more elegant decor in general (especially in rooms), fully stocked minibar with full-size liquor dispensers, turn down the excessively loud music from the main pool, not ask people all the time to go to the spa, better house wines (wine menu too expensive), more lobster included (they charge 600 MXN), add a coffee/tea bar with cake and sandwiches. Overall, we had a pleasant 1-week stay, although not quite up to our expectations. This is not a party resort and has an older clientele (like us, which was okay). Guests may visit the lesser Grand Riviera Princess next door, which has a family/kids club with ice cream parlour. If you are really looking for a 5* resort, this is not the place.

Great Week in Mexico

I highly recommend this resort. The food was excellent. Service staff were friendly. The beach was small, but I liked that chairs weren’t six rows deep. We never had an issue finding a seat on the beach. A few drawbacks. The bed was rock hard, even for me—I like hard mattresses. The deluxe swim up suite was nice, but the main pool was noisy. I asked for an upgrade to the platinum section, but was told it was unavailable. Another couple that checked in the same day as us said they got a “complimentary” upgrade when they waved a hundred dollar bill in front of the staff. The hotel management should know that their employees are taking bribes. It’s a bummer for those of us who have higher ethics. All said, it was a great week. We’ll be back!
