We stayed here from Nov 18-Nov 25 2018. We were a bit skeptical at first as I literally read the reviews every single day and they ranged from absolutely awful to outstanding. Check-in was smooth, we got there around 12:45pm I believe and checked in, our room wasn't ready which was fine and typical ( I have never stayed at a hotel where check-in wasn't until 3:00pm so when I saw people complaining about that I just laughed ). We got changed, kept our bags with the concierge, went to the buffet and then toured the grounds. We walked past concierge around 2:30 and one of the staff members offered to check if our room was ready, it was so he grabbed our bags and walked us over. We stayed in 4026 which is very close to the main lobby. We had a swim up room and it was just lovely. It was extremely quiet - we never even heard our neighbours which was great and just what we wanted. The rooms do smell musty but in any tropical destination that happens so I wasn't too concerned. We did have to dry any of our stuff that got wet outside because things just kind of stayed damp in the room. Also the floors get pretty slippery when coming in from the pool so just be careful! Housekeeping was okay - didn't do anything above and beyond but that doesn't bother me. Actually... none of the staff really went above and beyond (Except Gilbert at the main bar). But things like that don't bother me. I have been to other resorts where the staff bother you constantly and it was nice to be left alone. I saw a lot of people complaining about the people from the spa going around trying to book massages - this does happen but not as often as the complainers in the other reviews will have you think and once you say no, they pretty much leave you alone. No harm done. Food was good - didn't have a bad meal or get sick. The duck at aroma was awesome. Also hilarious in these reviews are the people complaining about small portions. Aroma is not supposed to have massive portions - the whole point of a tasting menu is to TASTE. Eat the food slow and not like an animal and you'll get full like you're supposed to. Myself and my husband are both big eaters and we were both absolutely stuffed by the end of that meal. The only thing we utilized at the other resorts was the ice cream place and walking their grounds which at night was really nice. The beach - oh the horrible reviews we read about the beach. First of all, it's not that bad, you can lay on the chair and listen to the ocean, it doesn't stink like people say. If you want to swim in ocean, bring water shoes cause it is a bit rocky or don't be lazy and walk a few hundred feet to the left or right. If you walk left on the beach you will hit a beautiful, huge patch of white sand. We were the only ones laying on it one day - it was so quiet and so nice. A lot of the staff that don't typically deal a lot with visitors don't speak much english (tried asking for directions etc) but no big deal - you're in their country so really, it's our fault for not speaking Spanish. Keep moving and ask someone else, you'll find what you need eventually. The bikes on the resort are definitely old but we used them one day and had a great time. We definitely ended up somewhere we weren't supposed to and I almost killed an iguana but we had a great time. Overall, I'm not going to say this resort is "luxury" but if you want a relaxing, quiet vacation without a ton of party animals it's a great place for that. The resort does a good job at asking people not to use straws which is nice. One of my bartenders even thanked me when I declined one. Oh also - I know you're at an all inclusive but you should be tipping. It was insane to watch how many people didn't tip. Don't pay attention to the awful reviews but don't expect perfection and you'll be fine.

Standard Resort But Not Four Stars Worthy

Our visit to Platinum Yucatan Princess All Suites & Spa Resort was a last minute weekend getaway booked for some sun and relaxation. The resort isn't quite four stars nor five stars as they advertise on their website. If I could, I would have given it 3.5 stars because people at the resort attempt to help you but it's a hit or miss. Overall, the experience was standard but nothing crazy to rave about nor somewhere to refer to your friends, network, or family. PROS; The hotel room is pretty big. Double shower is great Tub in the room was a nice touch. Concierge service was helpful Luna, Gabriela, and Jonathan at the spa reception are very nice and helpful CONS: Limited pool space. For a hotel that has 472 rooms...there's very limited space by the pool. (I would say like 4 narrow pools that surround the hotel and then 1 'big' pool sums it up) Customer service at reception - no welcome drink, very brief and quick to just request your money for a daily charge at check-in, and they can be rude at times with comments in Spanish as you wait or even walk away There was an issue with the a/c and Karina at reception 'tried' helping me by moving my room to another room that was facing the restaurant's vs. the current with a bare minimal beach view (note: this is not very much a beach resort as the beach has very limited space and it's best to not get in the water due to the seaweed problem) . However, the room wasn't ready yet and as I wanted to view the room to make sure the a/c didn't have the same issue. I ended up opting out of moving rooms because she requested I come back after the room was cleaned in the afternoon so at that point it just didn't make any sense especially if the new room had the same issue. Cleanliness isn't superb as I would give the room cleanliness 7/10. (i.e The room had a dead bug on the night table, tub wasn't cleaned much) Room smell: It's definitely not a smell of vacation. It's more like a musty or moldy smell that they tell you is normal for all the rooms. You can hear the noise outside your bedroom door very easily. Bath products seemed like they were refilled with their own line of products and not replaced, (Did not use) A/C: The air conditioning makes a lot of noise. With even 2 calls and one visit to concierge...the a/c was still loud. (video attached) Food: The proportions at some of the a la carte restaurants are very small like one ravioli for an appetizer. Aroma is good. Small proportions. If it's not busy, just note it will be a quiet setting for your evening dinner. Yucatan is the typical buffet style restaurant with basic food covering off on the standard meals for the day. Drinks are extra sweet; Premium liquors - didn't see any ( I requested malibu and pineapple juice and watched the bartender pour 'Coconut Rum' - not Malibu Coconut Rum SPA: They have spa representatives walking around all day asking you if you want a massage or facial. Even if you have one booked....you will still get harassed throughout the day getting asked to schedule a service. Just note, the pressure of your massage is based on the amount of money you spend. In other words, if you like pressure then you need to purchase a deep tissue massage which makes sense but all the other massages excluding the Yucatan massage is just like someone rubbing you gently. This is also a spa that doesn't have lavender essential oil. I had to learn the hard way that the aromatherapy massage was just with a range of orange essential oils. This is resort is good if you're seeking the bare minimum and only if you're getting a swim out room. Not sure I had the best experience as I'd sum up my experience as just 'okay' and doubt I'd return being that the 3 nights wasn't a 4 nor 5-star experience.

USED TO BE 5STAR ON 2014 BUT NOW SHOULD BE 3.5STAR ON 2018

i can list all night long why this is not the resort you want to go i will make it short 1. they do not refresh rooms everyday 2. they do not refill mini bar cooler and hard liquors everyday when the refresh your room (they say its only onetime per stay.) 3. everytime i go into my room i see garbages all over the place on the hallway everytime. 4. Buffet (3.5/5) La Bruchetta (3/5) Tao Restaurant (-5/5) i can cook better than any of cook in Tao Restaurant. 5.Interiors of this resort are falling apart everywhere. building has cracks, wall design falling off, swimming pool tiles are gone. 6. they cut WIFI for my laptop after 3 days. my phone worked fine but not my laptop??!! 7. I had to call front desk 3 times to replace mini fridges 3 times for first 2 days 8. My jacuzzi tub was filthy and disgusting did not even used it but no one would want to use it (plug was broken anyways so i could not even fill up the water.) 9. Room services are horrible especially food was very disgusting i got sick from it. 10. when i was here on 2014 sauna and hottub was free for all but now they charge $25/person 11. had massage with my wife and basically they tickled us for 80min and kicked us out ($163 total) 12. every employees except front desk do not know any english at all. they keep asked me with spanish even though i told them i do not understand. 13. Pool bar bartenders have stupide attitude very rude and look down on me 14. beach bed war happens every 8am to 9am and people will stare if i got their spot next day. (need more space for beach bed) 15. gift shop employees will follow you to make sure you do not steal anything. very disrespectful i would not expect anything if it said 3.5 stars resort. i wish i can explain every single things i have had with them but i think this is enough to make you think again if you trying to book it here.

More like Yuck-A- Tan Princess .

We booked this resort based on the ratings we read here. Not sure why or how this 3 star resort got so many good reviews. We have been to this area many times over the past 20 years. I have aways been blown away by the entrance, grounds, pool, everything by these Mexican Palaces, until now. From the lobby to the pool, rooms and buffet this place is ok at best. But even the less than good grounds didn't throw me off, it was all the little things. Housekeeping in the room was terrible. we were there 10 days and had to call every day because they gave forgot to replace our towels, i mean one day they took all the wet towels and didn't leave a single towel. one day a fresh pillow case looked like it was evidence from a crime scene. Unless you have a swim out room the pools are a joke, small and shallow with maybe 60 chairs to fight over, better be there by 6 am to get a seat, Food was great at Tao and ok at the steak house. we were sick most of the trip from the food, never have i taken so much pepto and gravol, upside is i didn't gain a pound. And we weren't the only ones to get sick, pretty much everyone we spoke to had stomach issues from the food. Oh and the 24 hour buffet, only open from like 7:00 am - 10:00 pm Thank goodness there are two adjoining resorts we had access to. more lively with great pools, should have booked there and saved a few hundred bucks. Oh and the fleet of 20 or so bikes they have for guest use, don't think more than a few worked

Swim up suite. King bed. What a holiday. Sunwing killed it on this one. Best holiday so far. Food was ok at the buffet. The a la carte restaurants were awesome. Bring dress clothes to hit the restaurants. Party central. The entertainment crew were amazing bring aqua shoes as the pool has tiles coming off. We watched a guy slice his foot badly on a tile. 8 stitches later on his first day. Staff were awesome helping with anything. I’ll definitely come back.
