All Inclusive

A spectacular resort, set on a dazzling beach, the all-inclusive Occidental Caribe boasts 798 rooms with red Spanish-styled rooftops. The lobby, in warm tangerine hues, invites you to linger, with comfy seating under a chandelier, which amusingly also happens to house a birds nest! Sprawled parallel with the beach, this spacious hotel curves around gardens and features two large pools that are perfect for a refreshing dip.

Boredom is not an option at this adventurer's paradise! Fly through the air on a trapeze at the circus school, or test your strength and endurance on the rock-climbing wall. Then, gaze down at the spectacular ocean-view from the top. Children's programs are also available and include a playground, game room, pool, and more.

Entice your palate at one of seven specialty restaurants and after supper, don't forget to try your luck at the casino or take in one of the dynamic live shows in the forum-style theater. Before topping the evening off at the nightclub, stop by one of the late night bars for a nightcap. Finally, head off to your luxurious room to rest up for the next day's adventure.

Once you've had a good night's rest, why not start your day off in the gorgeous, fully-equipped spa? Enjoy relaxing in the hot tub, pampering yourself in the beauty salon, or melting away stress in one of many massage rooms.

Great trip with room for improvement

When we first arrived to our room (late in the evening), we immediately noticed a leak from the bathroom ceiling. We reported it right away and about an hour later they sent in maintenance. Maintenance really didn't do anything for about 15 minutes and then told us a maid would be by in 10 minutes to clean up the leak. We waited for 2 hours before giving up and going to bed. A maid never came - which means the floors remained wet and so did half the towels. The next morning we showered and there was NO hot water and very little pressure. Again we called the front desk. We waited an hour, and maintenance showed up. They turned on the water and said it was fine and left. Ok fine, maybe my expectations for pressure and water temperature were too high for the Dominican?? The leak continued for the rest of the week. I called a few days into the trip, no one ever came. I called again a few days after that, and FINALLY someone came and decided this was a real problem and they asked us to switch to a new room so they could fix the issue. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE ON THE VERY FIRST DAY. So - in a rush we pack all of our things and head to the other side of the resort for our new room. THIS room has been remodeled and this room was AMAZING!! So clean, HOT WATER and lots of pressure!! My whole attitude about the trip changed in this new room. It went from a 2.5 star to a 4 star trip. Rant over about the room - let's talk about the rest of the resort. It's BEAUTIFUL. The entire lobby area is open air and you can see the pools and beach anywhere you look. The pools are kept sparkling clean and so are the grounds in general. There is live music most evenings in the lobby, and I would go back just to hear that saxophone player again. He was SO good and really drew in a crowd. There were live shows each night, some better than others. There were a game room with about 6 pool tables. They were in a rough shape, but I still appreciated them being there. During the day there were lots of activities at the pool and on the beach. We walked pretty far in either direction of the hotel on the beach, and Occidental Caribe had the best and biggest beach space by far. The restaurants are so/so. I won't crave any of that food, but I found something I liked at each meal and can't really complain. I personally don't expect 5 star meals at an all inclusive, so I would say they met my expectations. The bar tenders were ALL great! Most of our servers were really friendly. The front desk workers were hit and miss. The workers in the casino WERE THE WORST! They were SO rude and lazy it was seriously unbelievable. We tried going in there multiple evenings and quickly left because of how terrible those women were. It was better for my wallet to spend less time in there, but it seems like a huge miss on the casino/resort's part to hire such off-putting people. All in all, I think I would return to this resort, but I will probably give them time to finish remodeling their rooms first. It made such a big difference.

Needs a LOT of LOVE in their guestrooms!

This resort is already very outdated in everything from their check-in process to their check-out process. The rooms are extremely outdated and has a very strong "old smell" in them. Over-all this hotel/resort needs a LOT of LOVE and really needs a massive upgrading/renovations on all their guestrooms to remain competitive especially to the "resort next door" which is fairly new and very modern.

Another excellent stay the Occidental Caribe no complaints . The food, drinks and friendliness of the staff is why I keep returning .The views from the oceanfront rooms are picturesque and the resort is spread out so you are not cramped with all the other guests.

What a bummer.....

I wish I could tell you that all the bad reviews were wrong or exaggerated, but they really aren't. We booked 2 suites with our children for our big family vacation. The pools & the beach were amazing!! However, there were a lot of things that weren't... 1) I paid for the premium suites and regret it. The descriptions are not an accurate picture of these "suites." Do not spend the extra money. I had to change rooms 3 times. 5201 is the worst of them all, rivalling 5401. 5201 made me physically ill with the elevator fumes. The smell was awful, my clothes smelled for days from the odor. The kids room next door was fine. I begged to be moved to the smaller room (non-suite) next to them and they wouldn't let us. It was awful. The bathrooms were beyond dated and disgusting - mold, mildew, broken parts & pieces and rusty. The bed was lumpy and lopsided. The dressers and items inside the rooms were awful, a mishmash of pieces from multiple collections. No fan, no bathrobe & slippers, (1) tv, mini-bar was a joke and the balcony was non-existent...basically just a very small opening that looks in to another room. Also, many of the outlets did not work so we had to move furniture and things around to make lamps work. Don't get the premium level suites - the rooms are awful & not even close to being worth the cost. 2) The food is awful - just awful...we brought jackets and purses with us to snag rolls from dinner to sustain us. We lived off of the rolls and the fries for most of the week. 2 out of the 4 were sick within 24hrs. The only thing kinda edible was the pasta, too. 3) The drinks...watered down and kinda awful. With the premium package, we were to receive premium drinks - not even close. They were awful. 4) The casino - biggest rip-off ever. They are the shadiest people and I suggest you stay very clear and not even consider it. It was really awful, truly scam artists. 5) Staff - they were fine, mostly. From the bars to the restaurants, they were nice and pretty ok. The front desk manager was not accommodating when I tried (begged) to switch rooms. He acting like he could help me and made me wait at the desk for an hour, and did nothing. It was awful the way they treated me. 6) Entertainment was ok. They were very engaging at the pools and it was pretty fun. The trapeze is tough to get to because they have very limited hours. Regarding the water sports, they are not terribly forthcoming that some are included with your stay. Make sure you ask and then they will let you use some of them. I read all the reviews and was prepared for a few challenges, but I was pretty floored when it came to the rooms & the food. Lower your expectations a lot and you should be fine. I was pretty bummed that we had so many challenges.

We r here now Jan 14- 21st

So far everything doesn't add up to a 4 star rating they say they are. Services is shorthanded as if the staff isn't willing to work. Rooms are outdated had to go see 6 different rooms before we agree to stay in one. Wanted to upgrade to family room or a suit and both smelt terrible and had dead roaches in them. Receptionist would talk over to other guests in Spanish while helping me which was not up to standards. So far buffet is below average, with buffet staff not even acknowledging our existence with even a"good morning" coffee? We had to ask for it 3 times. Have not been to beach yet will rate that when we get there.
