Great vacation

I had a great this was a great resort! Friendly customer service easy check in and check out. Clean spacious rooms. Fast room service. They are doing construction but that did not bother me at all. I was in the adult only side and my room was on the end so I had a clear view of the costruction. The noise did not bother me. I was on the seventh floor so I was kind of high up so maybe that is why it was not bad. The only real complaints that I had was the food in the buffet was not that good. I was actually disappointed. I expected to have great Jamaican food :-( Another complaint is the beach was really rocky at the nude beach(the other beaches was great!!). Also the resort is not in a good location so we had to spend a lot of money on a taxi. It would be nice if they offered more free shuttles or even shuttles at a discounted rate. But in all everything was good. I hope this review helps! :-) More>

Disappointed in the maintenance of the property

This is the second Luxury Grand Bahia I've stayed at. They're more a 3.5-4 star than the 5 star they advertise to be. We had lots of maintenance issues over and over again. The room never even got truly cool so I did not have a single good night's sleep the whole week. We had them look at the AC a few times. They finally got it working okay after the 3rd or 4th time. We also had to call 4x to get the fan oiled. The shower drain didn't work either and had to be unclogged our 2nd day. They always ran out of room towels every day so you had to call housekeeping every day. The property itself is very pretty. The service was okay. I've had better service in Mexico and in Punta Cana at the other Grand Bahia property. The food was good for breakfast and at the specialty restaurants. We had jerk chicken and pork every day for lunch so we could sit by the water. The spa pools weren't working correctly and were cold so that was not worth the extra fee. Because we paid extra for the Don Pablo Collection we got our own lounge (so did all the other groups) which had a bar, an extra section of the pool which was nice as we always could find a lounger, and an ex portion of the beach. I don't think it was worth the extra money considering how much they charged. More>

This is my third stay at the Luxury Bahia Principe chain, and my first time in Jamaica. I was at the resort between August 24 through the 29th, and all the "negative" reviews regarding construction did not seem warranted. Yes, I was worried having read reviews saying the construction was an annoyance. I did not have that experience. My room was on the 7th floor and the construction was on my side of the hotel as they are building a brand new building for the Don Pablo Collection. Yes, I could see the construction if I tuned my head, but the noise did not carry over. Even at the pool, the noise was not a concern. So if you have any reservations, I can honestly say it was a non-factor. Now for the actual stay...the grounds were amazing. The pool and restaurants were amazing. You can see the great care the resort staff does in making your stay amazing. The beach was so beautiful. The water was crystal clear, the sand was so soft. True, it was a walk to get there, but totally worth it. It is right next to the snack bar, so you are that much closer to Jerk Chicken!!!! Everything about this place was great. The only reason I do not give it 5 stars is that I know they are constructing a brand new building for the Luxury Don Pablo Collection, so that should be more luxurious. More>

My wife and I just got back from Bahia Principe Don Pablo and it was fabulous. We don't travel as much as we would like and totally stumbled on this property and it did not disappoint. The good: Check in easy on their couch- a special section; butler service - my wife had them do some ironing, pillows service, turn down service, bubble bath; all food fantastic- not just good but fantastic; All staff went out of your way to be friendly. The not so good to be fair: Pool towel service is a little quirky-you need to return them to get new for the next day. And then the construction. The construction was there and they are working almost non stop. I think they put a floor on the property in the five days we were there. Its annoying and loud if you are at the adult pool area, other than around there you don't notice it at all. My suggestion is go to the other pools or the beach. The beach is a long stroll (1/4 mile probably) but the water is nice and Don Pablo people have an area with waitress service. Also, the wifi was only at a very small area and not around the hotel, a little annoying, but for Don Pablo people there are drinks and appetizers in the private wifi area. Lastly, you don't really know all that's going on entertainment-wise so you just have to ask. All negatives were minor but wanted to be fair. We went on two excursions - Dunn's River Falls and The Horse Swim. Both run exceptional and worth the money. I am hooked on this property chain and hope to visit another one on our next trip. More>

We stayed as a family of 5 in two junior suites from 6th-20th August. Upon check in the staff appeared miserable, we explained that we would like to alter the sleeping arrangements and put 4 in one room and one in the other. They said we could do what we wanted, but insisted that the room be put under my 15 year old daughters name. It took the hotel 4 days to provide us with another bed in the room, until such time our 11 year old son had to share a bed with us, not ideal. When we eventually got the spare bed we only got 2 towels a day between four of us, we also asked for extra pillows, which were delivered by housekeeping at 22.30 hours. We regularly got to breakfast at 07.00am only to find half of the food stone cold, pancakes and eggs cold, cakes somehow always hot. We booked this holiday in January this year and according to other British guests we should have been offered an upgrade, which we were not, the hotel can obviously upgrade people but choose not to offer unless we paid extra. The hotel has a privilege side and they wear orange wristbands, if you try to stray into their area you are asked to leave, this makes you feel like second class citizens if you were never offered the opportunity to upgrade. There is also massive building works going on onsite, they are almost building another hotel alongside the existing, which First Choice are not notifying customers about. If you have paid extra for Don Pablo or privilege beware as this could affect your stay. We were also hounded by staff around the resort offering timeshare to the new hotel that is being built. Beware gifts being given bracelets etc in return for a tour and a meeting they are looking for about £8000 to join. We refused the meeting but got continually asked every day if we had been invited to the anniversary celebration [Timeshare]. The reception staff all look like they don't want to be there and didn't ask us upon checking out if everything was ok or if we enjoyed our stay. Our son got an ear infection from the pool, it's $30.00 to go and see the nurse, she takes blood pressure and temperature, then $180.00 for the doctor to come out, $27.00 for Calpol [oral suspension] $73.00 for ear drops. intotal $310.00 for an ear infection. Good points: The weather and the first choice rep Godfrey. More>
