just spent two fantastic weeks (april 14 - 28th) at Don Pablo Collection, Bahia Principe, Runaway Bay. Unbelievable experience right from the word go. Really made to feel welcome from all the staff. All staff greeted us with warmth & sincerity from the life guards around the pool to the managers. Special mention has to go to Kevon (poolside attendant) who sang and kept everyone amused during his morning work routine. Couldn't fault this resort for anything. Excellent service and variety of food. Spotlessly clean and grounds maintained to perfection. The nearby beach personified the white sand, pale blue water image we all have of carribean beaches. The resort was wonderful. All the staff was awesome. The pool staff is amazing. Everyone was very friendly. We enjoyed our stay very much. The only issue we had is that the restaurants weren't very convenient. Needed reservations for every one of them and there isn't enough available snack bars for a quick snack throughout the day. That is the only complaint we have. We loved the resort and do plan on returning for another vacation. We loved the resort and all the staff. Amazing people working there. More>

Not even close to 5 star

Im going to try my best to give an accurate, honest opinion of the Luxury bahia principe don pablo in runaway bay. Although this resort is considered a 5 star resort i would give it no more thab a 3.5 out of 5 with the way the resort is currently running. First off, i am in a same sex relationship to which i know is not considered favorable to jamaicans, however, we dont flaunt our relationship so decided to go ahead with the booking. When we arrived it was quite late due to our flight delay. The people on the bus in the non luxury section were given there bracelets and rooms so they didnt have to sit around and wait for their room at something past midnight on arrival. However, everyone in the luxury section had to check in on arrival and wait around for their rooms. You would think this would be the other way around or at least done for everyone. We arrived to our rooms tired and hungry and were told we could order room service was this was 24 hours. The phones did not work in our room . We requested a king size ocean view room on a high floor and we ended up getting two seperare beds facing a construction zone and highway. We voiced our concerns to the bell boy and he said he would go to the desk and get back to us on a new room. He never came back.    We decided at 1:30 am to head to the lobby to figure out how we could get some food since we didnt have a phone and he said the phones should work later in the day but were being worked on this particular night. He then allowed me to order from the desk phone..the person taking my order was none to friendly. I also asked about changing our room and the worker at the front desk said nothing could be done that night and to check back at 9 am.      Upon waking on day 1, we went to the lobby to book our a la carte restaurants since on the app they recommend said no availability for anything we chose. We ended up eating every night at 9 or 9:30 which is super late. Luckily for us, my partners parents agreed to give uo their king bed to us because they didnt want to see our room moved too far from theirs. I also requested our room to be decorated on april 12th for a birthday and also ordered a cake. They said the cake had a charge but the room decorating was complimentary. I made sure the day before and the day of the birthday my request was in and they assured me it was. We received the cake that evening at the restaurant which was lovely. Probaby the best cake id ever had at a resort. The room never got decorated. This was upsetting. Every morning at 7:45 I was woken by the jackhammers outside. I was told contruction wouldnt have an effect on our vacation, however, this was not the case at all. We went without cold water one day, hot water the next day. We had no phone our entire vacation. Lost power once. The bars frequently ran out of top shelf liquor and some staff at the lobby bar were not friendly. Our mini fridge was stocked maybe three times in 7 days. Butler service was non existent. No pillows available,no scents available. We had turn down service twice. No beach towels half of the time. Now it wasnt all bad. Staff on the back were great. Staff at the pool were great. We dont tend to stay at the pool but nonetheless the staff were welcoming. We did make the most out of our vacation but until our lifestyle is more acceptable in jamaica i wont be returning. More>

We love this place! The staff is amazing and the scenery is fantastic! It was our second visit and we will definitely be back! I would recommend travelling on the luxury side of the hotel. The entertainers were AMAZING! Red stripe was hilarious and so much fun! Michael in the buffet was the best server we'd ever had! Thank you for making our trip so memorable More>

Make it "Jamaican Luxury"

First off I must say that this was the best vacation I've had ever! I was there to experience the great culture of the Jamaica, amazing food, music and people. With that being said there were some things of course that I did not like. Let's start with the best part first, the staffing, they were amazing, incredible, wonderful (I can go on and on). The warmest staff you'll ever meet, and it's not forced they genuinely care about giving you a luxury Jamaican welcome. To name a few: Gayon Robinson (public relations) will see to all your needs and assure that your vacation is amazing. There were three cooks that gave me authentic tasting Jamaican food, Omar Brown, Gavin and Kevaughn. They can be found in the Jasmine restaurant and snack bar (which is the best other than going out into town). My waiters Cruse and Latoya were also excellent and helpful. The bartenders in the lobby are all wonderful, I must mention: Kevon, Jermaine and Tevin super entertaining and experienced, they really appreciate the art of bartending and it shows. The rooms are clean but make sure you're not booked for the lower level, it has a slight smell of the sewer system. They didn't grant us a room change until two days after, which in my opinion wasn't great customer service. *** Most importantly this hotel should pay their employees according to the service they are providing. The staff is who make this experience most enjoyable, but in my heart I felt as if this needed to be said, providing job opportunities in a third world country is remarkable but not when the employees are hired into slave labor. No union, no benefits and low wages at a 4+ star "Luxury" hotel. It's most luxurious because of its staff. Lastly the food and entertainment wasn't not what I expected, Jamaica is so rich in culture and I didn't experience this here. There are no Jamaican head chefs, which was surprising to see. Instead I was Latin chefs, which would be perfect if I wanted Latin food. They don't know how to make authentic Jamaican food. The jerk chicken was never jerked, they need to learn more native dishes and hire more knowledgable/local chefs. Foreign chefs just killed the entire excitement that was built up prior to the trip about the food. Lastly entertainment is lacking rather boring to be frank. Jamaica is the most cultured island known, the motherland of reggae and I barely heard any. No culture music or dancehall, but someone decided to hire a Jamaican cowboy to play country music... Horrible, he played with not one person in the audience. I spoke to a number of other guests and we all agreed that authentic local reggae entertainers should have been hired instead. "If we wanted country music we would've went to Texas" is what someone sent to me and we all agreed. The owners may have thought it would be smart to cater to American culture but Americans came to Jamaica for Jamaican culture. I hope they read the reviews, especially this one. This hotel has the potential to be a great hotel if they would show more appreciate to their wonderful staff, they hired great employees but their pay is disheartening to their guest. They need to hire real Jamaican chefs, and local entertainment. Still and all, I loved Jamaica; the people the food (prepared by the locals) I want to actually feel like I'm contributing and giving back to the people there and not just putting more money in the rich man's pocket.
