Not what we were looking forward to....

Staff was very friendly, facilities were fair, the food was horrible. Buffet looked like recreations of the previous nights leftovers.

Few amenities, poor service for non-inclusive guests
Mar 09 2017
We like the Krystal because it's one of the few Ixtapa hotels that offer a non-inclusive option. There have been many changes, though, that cater to inclusive customers and affect the enjoyment of everyone else -- no pool bar, no waiters on the beach, poor service at the poolside grill and bar, lower quality of food and drinks. The hotel and its staff have no incentive to offer good food or good service because so many guests aren't paying separately for it.

Updating needed
Mar 13 2014
The hotel is very clean but needs some updating. While sitting with Elias, your rep on Sunday morning in the lounge area near the elevators, a shower of pebble sized pieces of plaster fell on my head. It did not hurt me in any way, just a weird surprise. But why was it falling?? The tile top of a table in our room was all stained and should have something to clean the "marble" or possibly replace it. You had to ask constantly to obtain a face cloth. Jose, one of the servers for the bar area, was outstanding. He is outgoing, friendly, good English and a very hard worker. He deserves an A+ for service. Overall, it was a great stay. Thank you so much.

Krystal slipping

We have stayed at the Ixpapa Krystal many times over the past 30 years. The pool and beach are wonderful. Furniture in the palapa area is old and not enough of it . Management has reduced the number of English channels to save money. No ESPN in the rooms, only in the bar. They do take advantage of the great ambience. of being able to dine along the beach. This is now available only some night and is a buffet. We go for the pool and beach and it is first class.

Loved my Week

This is the third time I have stayed at the Krystal. The employees were very accommodating, friendly, and helpful! The rooms are very nice and the view from the rooms are all wonderful! I can't wait to come back next year!

We have been going to Ixtapa for 30 years. We go because of the spectacular beach. What Ixtapa is lacking is a luxury hotel on the beach. The Krystal has fallen into disrepair over the years.

Solid 3 1/2 star!

Stayed Feb 24- March 5 After hearing and reading all reviews before we left, our expectations were not very high. A lot of what you read is true. Check in- quick and painless, had an oceanview deluxe room, and I highly recommend these rooms. Rooms- very clean, no fridge, safe, coffee (make sure you ask you maid for a new package daily! Resort- this resort is not a 5 star, so for those of you that have 5 star expectations, just don't! We had breakfast at the buffet daily and the choices were more than sufficient and actually pretty good!! We got bacon every day from our waiter, Martin. We made sure to tip him 50 pesos every morning and never had to ask again for bacon, he just brought it to us every morning! We stayed at the beach every day and had beach waiter service from Jose. He is an amazing waiter and we never had to wait long for a drink, we made sure to tip him also! The beach lounge chairs are few and far between and they mostly have the wooden adirondack type chairs which you cannot lay out on, so we made sure to get up by 6 am and reserve our chairs and had no issues! Restaurants- Bogarts alacarte was good and the Italian alacarte was great! Pizza shack by the pool was very good, however they do not speak english very well and seem to serve the Mexican tourists first as they speak the language. Oh well, not the end of the world! The snack bar by the beach/pool was great, the burgers and fries were always good and of course the chips and salsa! Evening entertainment- never really went as we walked across the street every night for either supper or drinks and had a great time! It is so safe that you literally walk across the street, walk through back alleys and find the most amazing places....Alex's!!, General's, Deborah's, and Franks to name a few! There is shopping there also as well as a Merza store, which is like a small grocery store and they sell Bud Lite beer!!Yay!!! You can buy Bud Lite for 8 pesos so we purchased 48 beer and some Barefoot wine and brought that back to the hotel to drink at the beach as there is no bud lite at the resort. We just brought a small soft sided cooler and had the bartenders fill it with ice and we would put our beer in it to drink at the beach/pool! Resort is full of locals, about 80%, but honestly, they never seem to bother anyone but they do butt in line at the restaurants, but is that going to ruin my vacation? Not likely! This is truly a 31/2 star resort, it is clean, service is extremely friendly! I heard from others that you can chose to not go all inclusive at this resort and you wouldn't have to as there are so many places to eat across the street that are so incredibly delicious! There is also a Starbucks in the lobby which you have to pay for. Christine disco-only went for a few minutes and it was just opening for that evening so it was not busy yet, it looks nice in there as well, but can't give an opinion. Beaches- are absolutely beautiful and you can walk either direction which would probably equal 2 km each way, and we walked it most mornings as a lot of others are doing the same thing! Massage along the beach to the right about half a km are 200 pesos for an hour! Did not have time to do this, but next time!

Just got home from 2 wonderful weeks in Ixtapa. We have been to many all inclusive resorts but this one was for sure on the low end. I will start with the good stuff. Check in went fast and we had no issues. The pool is great, it's big and it's warm (Not like some places so cold to go in). The location is perfect. Walking distance to a lot of great restaurants, shops and golf. The beach is absolutely beautiful. The hotel is kept clean and the rooms are a good size with an awesome view. Now for the bad. The hotel guests were at least 80 percent Mexican families. So many children. This hotel caters more to the Spanish speaking guests everywhere from the food they serve to the way they serve it. The food is not good here. We ate omelets every morning but had to ask for bacon or sausage. The Italian restaurant has a pasta station which was good. They give you a certificate to eat at the only al a carte called bogarts. We were given 3 choices of what to order. But other people at this restaurant who were paying and didn't get a certificate got a big menu and special food cooked by flame in front of them. The snack food areas are so run down the chairs are half broken and covered in bird poop. The pizza stand is very slow and the cook ignores you till he feels like helping you. The sports bar is so hot and stinky. All in all we had a good vacation. We ate outside the resort ALOT.

Noisy but not too bad

We had room only, not all-inclusive. The rate was excellent. We requested a mini-frig and were on the 8th floor with a great view of the beach and pool. The mini-frig didn't work. We called to request another and were told NONE of them worked. They were for storage of food items like chips and candy for sale only. We called for ice once or twice a day and it was promptly delivered, without expectation of a tip (although tips were appreciated when given). The A/C kept the room cool enough but we kept the drapes drawn to help. Water pressure/temp in the shower was excellent. Room and hotel were very clean. Personnel was very friendly and helpful. Elevators were prompt but I don't think the hotel was full. We did not use the pool and only ate breakfast once so really can't comment there. The room was just too noisy. We could watch the nightly shows from our balcony but could not sleep. The shows did not really impress me. Walls are paper thin and everything said during the shows or even from the next room could be heard like they were right there. The lack of mini frig and the noise were deal breakers for us, we will not return to Krystal.

It would seem that a some people who sign up to go to this hotel have very high expectations yet are paying a very reasonable price! I’ve been to lots of all-inclusive‘s, and , yes, I would’ve been more happy had there been a bar fridge in my room! Did I suffer for not having one,no! The hotel has done a lot to keep up-to-date! The bathroom was stellar and the water pressure and heat were always great! Every all-inclusive has issues with towels and chairs ! Having said that my sister and I always found a chair somehow! The beach was lovely and the staff incredibly happy and helpful! And I had bacon most mornings perhaps because I tip the waiter’s in the all-inclusive and they appreciate that! I also smile a lot and don’t complain a lot! That really gets you a long way! Jesus is a gem of a waiter! We flew with Sunwing and our tour guide was very instrumental in helping us and you have to do the turtle excursion as it was awesome! Don’t expect fancy-schmancy as you are in Mexico but everyone on the excursion from high-class hotels to whatever absolutely enjoyed the turtles. The food was sometimes boring, and seem to cater more to the Mexican crowd, but since it was a week and I was in Mexico I tried some new things and I never went hungry! The wine if you’re wine lover goes from passable to terrible most of the time! Save your wine drinking for home and enjoy a local drink ! All in all the weather was great the hotel was clean and the week was enjoyable! Loved Ixtapa and boardwalk at Zihautinajo!

We stayed for one week the weather was beautiful. The room was ok but had little ants running around which most places would spray to get rid of them. The curtains are black from non washing and the balcony glass was filthy. The water pressure was good and the bed was comfortable but more cleaning on windows is required. The food lacked choices and breakfast was ok. We are used to bigger buffet choices. The al la carts were very good service was as well. I didn't like the no straw with my drinks so I never had a drink only wine with dinner. The view was fantastic as was the location. Would I return probably not. Sunwing staff was very friendly as were the staff in the restaurants.
