We stayed here 7th September for 2 weeks after changing from be live collective Punta Cana, due to bad hotel reviews and seaweed problems on the Atlantic side of the island. The hotel is lovely and check in was quick with a much needed welcome drink. The staff work so hard and are always so polite and friendly. The rooms were nice and air con was much needed. Food was fantastic at all restaurants and the buffet had a varied mixed choice which we never got fed up with. The french restaurant the men have to wear long trousers. The evening entertainment is ok although everything is in Spanish mainly and I felt they don’t really cater much for the English clientele. The night club again only play a couple of English songs then Spanish all night. The grounds are lovely and very well kept. The pool is lovely with a welcoming pool bar. The beach is lovely, crystal sea no seaweed but the reason I have rated this 4 stars is because you simply cannot get a sun lounger by the sea, it is ridiculous people put towels on sun beds and do not return to them lunchtime. I went down at 7am a few mornings and all beds reserved with no-one on them. This should not Be allowed. But other than this the hotel is awesome.

We spent the last 2 weeks of August here and have booked to go back next year, so that shows we enjoyed our holiday! On arrival we were welcomed with a drink, and check in was quick and easy, although we were unaware we needed to provide a printed copy of our booking so had not brought one. They were happy for us to forward the email so no great problems there. We were then shown to our room by our concierge, Yefri, who was friendly and helpful throughout the holiday, booking our a la carte restaurants and assisting with a couple of minor issues we had during our stay. As always with somewhere new it takes a day or 2 to get to know your way around and figure out where everything is and what times things are open, etc. The resort is very pleasant, with well maintained gardens, well looked after pool areas and a lovely beach. There are turkeys, flamingos, peacocks and a swan around the grounds which delighted our 10 year old, especially when the peacocks turned up at the pool late in the afternoon for a drink! The food was varied and good quality, with availability at different areas throughout the day. As with most all-inclusive buffets after 2 weeks the food seems a bit samey, though with a good variety to start with there is only so much you can do to provide variety so we have no complaints on this front. We never had a problem finding something to eat for 5 of us. On the subject of food we just wanted to mention Wilkin who cooks fried eggs and omelettes at breakfast in the main buffet - he does a fine job non-stop throughout breakfast. On the subject of staff we found every single member of staff we came across during our holiday to be friendly and helpful, even down to a simple "Ola" from maids and gardeners, and although there was a language barrier to various degrees we were always able to communicate without any trouble. We even had Miguel teaching us a little Spanish while bringing us drinks by the pool. Final staff mention goes to Morla at the pool bar for some highly enjoyable Margaritas! The staff genuinely give the impression that they enjoy their jobs and want to make the guests feel welcome. We also made use of the dive centre during our stay, with myself and our 10 year old daughter going on dives at sea twice. It was her 1st time diving and she felt very comfortable and well looked after and is keen to do it again. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and are already looking forward to going back in 2019!

A bit disappointed

We stayed at the resort for 12 days in August. We were a family of four, two adults and two kids, ages 9.5 and 2.5 years old. We traveled with Vacation Express, direct flight from JFK to La Romana, round trip. Transfer to hotel was included. CHECK IN: it was pretty smooth, no issues there. ROOM: We were upgraded for free to a Jr. suite in building 7, but had to give it up as it was right in front of the pool and was very noisy during the day, as our youngest was napping. We still got an upgraded room in the same block but it was smaller. Please not that I emailed ahead of time and kindly requested for a bigger room. RESTAURANTS: we tried all 4 restaurants. We liked the Mexican the best. The food was delicious and the service was very good. The worst one was, surprisingly, the Japanese restaurant. The food was very salty and raw. We left hungry. Also, the waiter spoke zero English, he mixed our order of drinks a few times and had to cal for another waiter to translate. The La Colonial was good as well. Steak House was not good either. The steak was raw, and that’s after I explained to my best ability that we do not eat raw meat, especially the kids, and it has to be well done. The service was non existent. The buffet- It’s on the smaller side, with the same exact selection of food every day. Most of the time you will be paying a guessing game since there very few labels for the food that is being presented and if there is any, it’s usualky wrong. Please note, there is no air conditioner in the buffet and it’s VERY hot since they do cooking right there. As a result of the buffet being open, there are birds freely flying in and out, sitting on the tables and a verity of different insects that feeds of the food. Not the most hygienic thing I have seen, I must say. But do try their oatmeal, it was delicious and probably the only thing we found that was actually in a closed container. We didn’t use the buffet for lunch but We did use it for dinner for about half of our stay. Each night has speciality cuisine like Italian, Mexican, Dominican nights. We loved the Dominican evening buffet, it had a nice selection of food. Please note that the chefs and about 90% of the buffet and restaurants staff do not speak any English. I mean, I couldn’t even order a regular omelette without assistance. A tip- when dining in the buffet, try to sit at a table that is right under a fan that is above it. It gives some air and relief from the heat and humidity. THE POOL: the pool is nice and is constantly cleaned. We had no issues finding chairs under the shed, and that’s around 8:30-9am. The pool bar is nice, the drinks are not water downed and pretty strong. The bartenders also go around the pool and provide drinks to those that are just chilling. THE BEACH: the best part about this resort is definitely the beach. It’s amazing. The water is so calm and clear, the shore is shallow, warm water. My kids loved it. ENTERTAINMENT: I must say that the Star team is trying very hard to entertain and involved the resort guests in different activities. There is bingo every day by the pool at 3:30 and at the theater at 8pm, water polo, aerobics at the pool and beach. Foam party was awesome, my oldest loved it. With that being said, we were very dissatisfied with the night entertainment. It’s non existent for kids. The mini disco is just dancing to Latin music on stage for 30 min. No show, nothing. Then there is an over an hour break between the mini disco and the adult show, which makes no sense. People just sit around, listen to Latin music and the Star team members go around ask people to dance. We saw a few shows, and comparing to other resorts and shows, we were not entertained. The shows are outdated, the music is louder then the singing and to be honest you can’t really make up the words because of the heavy accents of the singers. The entertainment at the lobby is very good. The pianist played nice music and that’s were we usually went to after dinner. My kids had a blast there dancing with other kids. Overall, we had a nice vacation but the little things kept compiling and it was kinda annoying. I don’t think we will be back to this resort anytime soon.

Allways amazing
