Wonderful Carribean experience!

From the moment we walked in the door, the staff at Iberostar Hacienda Dominicus treated us wonderfully. We had requested a king room and had to change rooms after one night because they were full and we wanted to be in the same building as our friends. The food was generous and our Apple contact gave us practical advice and recommended 2 really fun excursions based on our interests.

We've stayed in numerous Iberostar's. This resort is older, maintained well except for the pool area. Pool was clean just old and need of updates. Maid/room service was poor at best. Upon arrival we had a dirty sheet on our bed and used water bottle in our room, hard to feel comfortable after that experience. Restaurant service was wonderful, food good!

I like the colonial feeling of this hotel. When I go to the Caribbean, I want to see the warm colors and fabrics this hotel does so well. Very friendly and hard working staff-one of the beast things here. Beautiful beach/pool. Specialty restaurants were very good-enjoyed El Colonial and La Geisha the most. The food selection and quality at the buffets was only fair. Pasta sauces all need a new recipe! That should be easy to fix. The food should be presented more attractively, especially the salads and hot food. The concierge idea didn't work well for us. The man was very pleasant but he continually hounded us to attend a "presentation" for a timeshare/discount plan that would give him points to make more money. Please! Just pay him more money to leave us alone!

Not what I expected from Iberostar

I booked this stay in the DR after a positive experience at another Iberostar in Riviera Maya, Mexico. Some positives: gorgeous beach, great housekeeping, friendly reception and concierge, and comfortable accomodations. Some negatives: Kid's program did not appear to have a set schedule of operations the week we were there, to the point where we had to complain to reception; lack of variety of food at the dinner buffet service: thank goodness for reservations at the restaurants on premise; and lack of bar and pool service especially since at the Iberostar in Riviera Maya-wait staff at pool/beach was very attentive.

Nice Hotel but no plan to return

The room definitely did not feel like the rating it was given on the website. Our room was fairly small and the air conditioner leaked every day. We had to lay down towels on the floor to keep from falling on the slippery floor. Our room service though was wonderful and we looked forward to the customized "animal" towels. The hotel staff was nice but we did experience some bad moments where we were made fun of at the beach bar for not speaking their language and a general haughty attitude towards Americans. The other foreigners vacationing there were also exceptionally rude. They have no concept of taking turns or how to say "Excuse me". I thought the food in the restaurants was much better than the buffet. The best part of the trip was Dressel Divers. They were wonderful people, friendly and we had an excellent time on the excursions they provided. Overall, the hotel grounds are very pretty, nice pool, great beach, and good location. I just have no desire to return here.

Overall we enjoyed this hotel a great deal. The grounds and pool and Beach for beautiful and very clean and well-maintained. We were surprised by the fact that the majority of the guests were from Europe or South America but we all enjoyed the cultural experience we had because of that. We were a little disappointed in the buffet Foods but overall it was okay. We especially enjoyed the food at the Japanese restaurant and Mexican restaurant. The activities were fun and we had a nice mixture of relaxing and doing fun things. Are children parasail with a partner company on the beach and there were equipment issues that led to dangerous situations resulted in us getting our kids out of the boat and our money back. Overall it was a great experience and we would not hesitate in recommending it to our friends.

Loved this resort. Staff was wonderful, room was perfectly located. We requested rooms close to the pool and beach because one of my fellow travelers has a prosthetic leg. We were given rooms close to everything. The gardens and all the birds were fantastic. No complaints at all. The only negative for me was that there were a lot of very young children in strollers and crying. Not the resorts fault.

We loved the hotel, the staff overall were not friendly or helpful at all. We had to get our own drinks at the lunch facility and flag down staff for anything we needed. The specialty restaurants were 2 hour minimum and the food was mediocre at best. Our apple rep was non existent and never where he was supposed to be. We finally got him two days before we left. The hotel itself is fine, just need to update the attitude of the staff and increase the food quality.

The resort is completely run down. Showerhead falls down, toilet does not flush. It took us two days to get showerhead changed, and toilet was not fixed. Restaurant staff does not speak or understand English, so it is very hard to order or ask for something. As a result you get red wine instead of white, etc. The same with cleaning staff - they are very friendly but do not understand when you ask for a bar of soap. My German speaking friends experienced the same thing. Very few people who can understand what you need - mostly front desk staff. Concierges are also not helpful, they keep sending you from one to another.

This was my tenth visit with Apple Vacations to the Dominican Republic (6 Punta Cana, 4 La Romana) and, as always, it was fantastic. The people, food, resort/beach, atmosphere, and available activities were top-notch. Needless to say, I'll be returning again through Apple Vacations! Thank you.

We visited this wonderful hotel the first two weeks of April, myself my partner and our daughter. I have to say it's the best hotel I've ever stayed in. The pool is lovely large and perfect temperature, lots of sunbeds and plenty of space so you are not sitting on top of each other. Shout out to the poolbar staff Randy and Ricardo who were always happy to have a chat and a laugh. We always had our base at the pool but every so often would pop on the beach for a snorkel or a swim as it's beautiful down there, calm water in the mornings and lots of fish especially a little further out near the rope on the man made coral. The sunset is a must and we went down there a few evenings to watch it and get lots of photos. The food is very tasty and lots of variety. Visited all the restaurant's our favourite was the steak. The tenderloin was to die for. Not many English here but it didn't matter, most people were friendly and it's nice to have a mix of nationalities. Grounds were stunning, lots of peacocks, flamingos woodpeckers(We even saw a hummingbird near the lake... lovely) A stunning hotel and would definitely come back. Just one thing though it would be nice to open the beach bar on an evening as I love to sit outside near the ocean and have a drink and we found that only having the lobby bar open wasn't really enough for a hotel of this size 1 more bar open would have made the hotel perfect.

This is a beautiful resort, presently run by Mr. David Lopez. The food was excellent and it has a wonderful beach bar. The workers are very friendly and happy. There are beautiful birds on the property which include flamingos, peacocks, and ducks. I highly recommend that you go there, you won't be disappointed.

We just returned from our 1 week vacation in Hacienda Dominicus. This resort was recommended to us by our friends, and have to tell you that we were not disappointed. Located close to La Romana airport (about 20 minutes) most beautiful resort we been to. Grounds: Everything is impeccably clean from the floors (you can actually see your reflection) to the sand on the beach. You can see personal working nonstop to make sure that everything sparkle. Gardens are beautifully maintained all day long. Rooms: Any building you stay is conveniently located with easy access to the restaurants, pools, beach and entertainment areas. Suites are always clean, beds changed daily and minibar is refilled constantly, you can always ask for something and your chamber maid will get it for you. Entertainment: Most fun we had, animation crew is amazing. Always making sure that we participate in games, but never pushy. Evening shows are great, every night there is something different. Beach: The most beautiful beach we have seen. Shallow, blue, crystal clear water, not wavy at all. There are plenty to lounge chairs to relax and chill. Faro bar is outstanding especially at sunset. Food: Great variety, there is always something to eat. Quality and taste is outstanding. Thanks to Frank! We ate only at main buffet, because we loved the atmosphere and service. We especially like to thank our waiter Esteban. On the first evening that we arrived he took care of us, and from that moment we always sat in his section. He provided us with the best service we ever experienced. He was very attentive, always remembered what we like. He always had table ready for us with drink that we preferred. We would like to thank every single person who works at the hotel for their fantastic job. We felt very welcomed and will definitely return again.

My wife and I spent nine nights at the Hacienda Dominicus (weather delay robbed us of our tenth). As my wife has mobility issues, we booked a Spa Junior Suite in building 4 and opted for the Star Prestige upgrade. This was the perfect combination. Beinvenido (Benny) had our chairs ready for us each morning without my having to run to the beach before 6am to reserve a palapas. Our room was steps from the beach and a very short walk to the pool. It had been recently renovated with fresh paint and a newer flat screen tv. The selection of english speaking stations was limited to news and educational stations, Housekeeping was great. The room was clean and the floors mopped daily, not just swept. We were able to book the a la carte restaurants with the concierge upon arrival. We went to the Japanese twice, the steak house and the French. We both had a filet at the steak house and found it very good. We also opted for the filet at the French restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed the meal. We enjoyed the buffet the rest of the nights. Lobster, turkey, crab legs ,shrimp, ribs and leg of lamb were some of the featured selections along with pasta to order and a variety of salads. We utilised the shuttles to and from our room and the lobby, bars and restaurants. I have to give a special thanks to Albento, Elli, and Omar for their service with transportation. Their smiles and prompt service helped to make our stay memorable. This was our third stay at this resort and fourteenth in the Dominican Republic. We have already begun making plans for next year.

Fantastic Holiday

My wife and I have just returned from a fantastic 2 week holiday in a superb resort. We chose this hotel based on previous experiences with Iberostar in Cuba and Mexico, as well as the fact Dressel Divers were also on site, we were not disappointed, in fact we were very impressed. The staff are great, they can't do enough for you, every single one of them always had a smile on their face and greeted you wherever you went. The rooms were spotless and the maid worked her socks off, even finding the bed turned down on an evening when we returned to the room. We had a problem on arrival with the patio door not locking properly, we reported it and the next morning 2 new locks were fitted. The beach and pool area were fabulous, well kept and attended to and plenty of sunbeds, no early morning outings to bag a bed. The Wi-Fi had great reception all over the hotel, even on the beach. The grounds and gardens were beautiful and very well maintained, with swans, flamingos, peacocks, ducks and turkeys freely roaming around, the ground staff worked very hard every day maintaining the high standard. The only negative for us was the evening entertainment, it was a little bit repetitive and amateurish, but that is just our opinion and there were plenty of people in the theatre each evening and it in no way spoilt our stay. We spent a lot of time diving and the guys at Dressel Divers were brilliant, a great partnership. The hotel location is a little remote so if you like walking out in an evening then be aware, it is a bit of a walk to the closest village. If you are thinking of choosing this hotel, go for it, you will not be disappointed.
