We cannot say enough wonderful things about the Iberostar. The beach was wonderful, the grounds are beautiful, food was great. We couldn't have asked for anything more.

This was not what I would consider a 5-Star hotel experience. The service was poor, the food was good but my children got sick, and they could not accommodate us properly. On the Apple Vacations website it listed the junior suite as able to room up to 5 people but this was incorrect. When we got to the hotel they told us the room only holds up to 4 people and they brought in a cot which made the room very small and was very uncomfortable. While we were there we were not able to go to our room for a day because they had to fumigate the building because of pests. I would not recommend this resort to anyone and will not be using Apple Vacations to book anymore of my vacations. I plan on calling Iberostar because I feel as if they need to know what is going on.

Went to the beach. When came back found the bathroom door locked. We could not open it. Took 3 calls and 2 hours to have technician come in and unlock the door. The majority of the staff does not understand English. Contacted concierge 3 times to bring a piece of hand soap. First request was ignored. After second request we were brought hangers. After the third one, shower gel. Luckily, we were in the room when the maid brought shower gel and I showed to her what we were looking for.

The bed and pillows are like racks-we woke up everyday with neck/back pain. The buffet food was above average. The sprinkled the lawns around 8:30-9 am with stinky water. The beach was excellent. The drinks at the bars were not drinkable, we just drank beer and house wine.

From the moment we walked in the door, the staff at Iberostar Hacienda Dominicus treated us wonderfully. We had requested a king room and had to change rooms after one night because they were full and we wanted to be in the same building as our friends. The food was generous and our Apple contact gave us practical advice and recommended 2 really fun excursions based on our interests.

We've stayed in numerous Iberostar's. This resort is older, maintained well except for the pool area. Pool was clean just old and need of updates. Maid/room service was poor at best. Upon arrival we had a dirty sheet on our bed and used water bottle in our room, hard to feel comfortable after that experience. Restaurant service was wonderful, food good!

I like the colonial feeling of this hotel. When I go to the Caribbean, I want to see the warm colors and fabrics this hotel does so well. Very friendly and hard working staff-one of the beast things here. Beautiful beach/pool. Specialty restaurants were very good-enjoyed El Colonial and La Geisha the most. The food selection and quality at the buffets was only fair. Pasta sauces all need a new recipe! That should be easy to fix. The food should be presented more attractively, especially the salads and hot food. The concierge idea didn't work well for us. The man was very pleasant but he continually hounded us to attend a "presentation" for a timeshare/discount plan that would give him points to make more money. Please! Just pay him more money to leave us alone!

I booked this stay in the DR after a positive experience at another Iberostar in Riviera Maya, Mexico. Some positives: gorgeous beach, great housekeeping, friendly reception and concierge, and comfortable accomodations. Some negatives: Kid's program did not appear to have a set schedule of operations the week we were there, to the point where we had to complain to reception; lack of variety of food at the dinner buffet service: thank goodness for reservations at the restaurants on premise; and lack of bar and pool service especially since at the Iberostar in Riviera Maya-wait staff at pool/beach was very attentive.

We spent a week in this resort and I will try to list the things we liked and disliked about it. I would rate them as 3.5 starts, but definitely not 4 starts. What we didn't like: - Probably the MOST annoying thing to us was that people were going early in the morning and leaving their towels on the sunbeds at the beach to reserved them, at some point you could see pretty much all the sunbeds being used but not many people around. At the same time, large area was exclusive for the 'premium'/'club members' of the hotel and didn't look very utilised while we were there. - The second thing we didn't like was the reaction of the people in the main restaurant, when something that sound like a gas leak started and few people start running, we got scared and got our kids and quickly left; turns out one of the machines was releasing hot air, which sound exactly like a gas leak and the staff was laughing instead of calming down the people and explained what was going on. - the beach is great, but a lot of the tourists smoke and drop the leftovers from the cigarettes on the sand, it's not that bad on the sunbeds close to the sea, but you can spot quite a few cigarettes near the back of the beach, close to the hotel buildings. - being with two 23 months old kids, safety is priority for us. We found our kids easily open the door from inside even when we were using the door bolt, which are very different from the ones which are used in Europe. This is something I would change in the rooms. What we liked about it: - the grounds are beautiful, nothing too shiny but it met our expectations. - people are really polite and helpful, not everyone did speak English but we end-up with funny situations using Google Translate :) - food is great, even being a bit 'raw' for our taste but the the staff was happy to cook it for a bit longer for us. There was a lot of choice of what to eat. Going with little kids the food was one of the concerns but that was not a problem at all. - the main restaurant opens at 1 PM , however, there are snacks place at the beach.. also there are some snacks in the coffee shop close to the main reception. - First time going to all-inclusive, but it's great how everything is included, for example, everything from the coffee shop, from the fridge in the room .. the beach bar, everywhere. - You can book going for Japanese, Stake house or gourmet restaurant - we found the food there really good (part of the all-inclusive package) - Great beach, especially if you are lucky enough to get a sunbed close to the sea. :) - the rooms are getting cleaned twice a day, and it's great, especially after all the sand that we were leaving behind us after being at the beach. - The rooms are nothing special, however, I would say - they are decent size. We managed to adapt it a bit for our needs and the staff helped us a lot, even left us a cot beds that we didn't used in the end. - We had an issue with the shower head, it was fixed extremely quickly! - When we were leaving the hotel, the guys on the reception called the company we hired a private transport from and helped us a lot, felt really good! - There are 4 or 5 stores within the resort (we didn't leave it, as we didn't want to risk going out with kids), in one of them you can buy baby pampers (I was told they have all the sizes, but we already got quite a lot with us) , water wipes, swimming pampers, sun cream (inc. baby sun cream), a local brand of baby food (9+ months) and all kind of other stuff. I guess its worth mentioning that it's not unreasonably expensive. - The kids area is not bad at all, we spent some time there. Our kids loved it. - Internet connectivity is really good. - TV have enough of channels. I personally would recommend the hotel to get a TVs with chromecast support, but not a big deal. - our laundry was done by end of the day, which was great! What to be careful about: - There are number of small stores on the beach, they can be quite costly. We found some of the kids toys about 40 times more cheaper in the hotel. - Early in the morning the ground floor around the hotels can be slippery. I was wearing none slippery shoes and even with them it was very slippery. Just be careful early in the morning. - We got eaten by mosquitoes, maybe its worth trying some of the local brands. The repellent we used for the kids seem to work better than ours, they didn't get even get bitten even once (as far we could see). This is the mystery section: - I am still not sure why the rooms in build four were called 'Spa' rooms ;-)

Great Chilled break at our happy place.

We had a great trip, to give context this will be our 4th Trip to the resort, we have been to many other resorts across the dom rep too but never back to any of them. We come back for a reason, it's consistently good and the staff are so friendly here even though a lot have changed over the years. Resort Not too big, compared to some of the monster resorts out there but still not cramped. Pool is a great layout and Pool bar is great. Rooms are a little tired but we can overlook this for some of the other aspects. Food has improved over the years and is consistently good and "safe". Signature restaurants are good too, especially the steakhouse and the Japanese Restaurant. First thing you will notice is how established and amazing the landscaping and planting is, it is truly stunning. Guest type - a good mix a lot of nationalities - not many English or English speakers but we did meet 3 couples and had fun chatting with them. Room A bit basic, we got landed with a family room and two separate small doubles, we were travelling as a couple. Wasn't much of a problem though but the guest services struggled to find a change of room so we stuck with it. Again could do with an update but we literally just sleep and get changed in the room so not an issue for us. Pool Great layout, easy to get a bed in the morning, the only issue is greedy guests, we saw some towel 4 beds under the shades and then disappear to the beach for the day and come back at 4pm denying people access to the beds in the shade all day. I don't know what the hotel can do about this, just some selfish people around I guess. Drinks from the bar from the team were good branded drinks shout out to Miguel thanks for all the Jim B's and Coke. Good for kids too, zero entry - foam party every Friday was good. Beach This is the key selling point the beach is stunning, right out of a painting of what you think the carribean should be. Lots of beds, great beach bar lighthouse. Only issue to get on the front 2 rows we were up to get towels out at 6:00 am. We did this a couple of times then settled for beds slightly further back as this is crazy. Sea is fine without wearing beach shoes and lovely and clear. Bar / Entertainment at night. A little slow and not much going on, but hey your on holiday so chill and people watch, but the bar staff again were great. Shout out to Florimon and Carlos - brilliant fun. Madeline has been a server for as long as we have been there and is always smiling, make sure you tip they work so hard. Gripes? - only a few but I am nitpicking here. It was our 4th trip and we mentioned this on arrival, no fuss was made of this - they have recognised this previously, even a small upgrade or pool view room would have been nice. I got bitten a lot, make sure you take fly spray for your room, and bug repellent. On the flip side the wife didn't get bit at all. Some of the guests were very rude to staff and other guests and very self-entitled but that's not the hotel's fault and you get that everywhere. Will we go back. Yes already planning a break for next year with the whole family and friends. Recommended you'll have a great time.

Fun week in paradise!

Writing this review from our comfy air conditioned room. First time in DR. Beautiful resort, grounds are meticulously landscaped, and the layout is easy to navigate. Food is good - I am a vegetarian and I always had lots of buffet options. Amazing pool and beach. The staff are awesome - friendly, accommodating, everyone says "Hola!" Bartenders and wait staff are excellent. Entertainment staff work really hard - they seem to be there all day and night. Spanish lessons, water aerobics, dance class, bingo, pool activities. My one criticism would be that you have to work to get the activities schedule. It is not online or on tv. You have to get it from a screen by the buffet and snap a photo of it with your phone. No printed copies. Weird. Also, although I am not a world traveler, I was surprised by how rude some other visitors are. Bumping at the buffet, people who don't watch their kids, a group of adults sitting near the front of the theater playing cards during a live show, people talking nasty to staff. Perhaps this is the nature of an all inclusive - people think they're entitled. Overall, the accommodations are good and the staff are great. I would recommend IHD to anyone planning a trip to the DR.

Not a 5 star hotel

We were there at the end of Feb 2019, thought we would have 2 beds and were surprised that it was only one bed. But no big deal. Luckily I love my wife. I did get some type of food poisoning and usually nothing really bothers my stomach. We love the grounds, the lounge at night and the beach and ocean. But the shows were weak. We stayed at Dreams Domincus the previous year and their shows were simple yet way more entertaining. Another nice thing about Dreams was that there were meals and shows outside at night. Water is beautiful. There are even waves to play in. No problems with getting beach chairs during day. Love the beach bar. Staff very pleasant. The main disappointment with this hotel are the toilets. Don't like the button flush mechanism and the flush is very week. Had to flush several times. I had to use the toilet in the building where the lunch grill is near the beach and that toilet was weak as well. It is no fun to be at luxury resort and worrying about toilet flushing. Final complaint is that they take you back to the airport very early where you end up sitting in the airport for at least a couple of hours.

We booked directly with Iberostar as we couldn’t find this hotel with any UK operators at the time we booked it. The process was simple and painless. We specifically wanted to go to this hotel as we loved the Iberostar in Puerto Plata last year and as flights from the UK no longer go into Puerto Plata we fancied a return to the Caribbean side of the island. We were not disappointed. The hotel is beautiful. It is big and spacious and has a relaxed feel. The gardens are beautiful and meticulously looked after by the gardeners who work every day. The wildlife is lovely, woodpeckers everywhere, humming birds, huge butterflies, peacocks, flamingoes, ducks etc. The alpha peacock was in great spirits, very busy showing off his plumage! The steakhouse is definitely the best a la carte restaurant and the fillet steak wonderful. We take it rare and it was absolutely delicious. The buffet offering was fine - not spectacular but some nights were amazing, for example the Dominican night with so much shellfish I was in heaven. No one had any problems with sickness at all and good was all well cooked. If I had one criticism (or let’s call it an observation) it would be that due to the size of the place, the entertainment is really spread out and easy to miss. You have to actually go to the concert room to see the show whereas in Puerto Plata, you were there anyway, either outside or inside so you never missed the show. Or, you could sit outside and chat but still have the show in the background. Also, there were not many activities for older kids. Kids club is for the diddies and the rest of the activities were aimed at adults. My 12 year old was told he wasn’t allowed to play water polo which was disappointing. It doesn’t matter too much though because I enjoy doing stuff with my kids so we sailed, snorkelled, kayaked, swam etc together. The beach is beautiful as is the pool area. I did see a lot of people falling over due to the slippy floor so if it was my hotel, I’d look at fixing that. A couple of people really went over with a bang. The rooms were large and clean with towel change every day. The staff are courteous and there is waiter service everywhere. In a nutshell, we loved it. I don’t really see what else you could want. We’ll definitely return. Oh, one surprising thing was the lack of English language skills by many staff. This is in no way a complaint but strange and for next time I will improve my Spanish! Thankyou to Isobel at the dive centre. My daughter absolutely loved you.
