Wonderful Carribean experience!

From the moment we walked in the door, the staff at Iberostar Hacienda Dominicus treated us wonderfully. We had requested a king room and had to change rooms after one night because they were full and we wanted to be in the same building as our friends. The food was generous and our Apple contact gave us practical advice and recommended 2 really fun excursions based on our interests.

We've stayed in numerous Iberostar's. This resort is older, maintained well except for the pool area. Pool was clean just old and need of updates. Maid/room service was poor at best. Upon arrival we had a dirty sheet on our bed and used water bottle in our room, hard to feel comfortable after that experience. Restaurant service was wonderful, food good!

I like the colonial feeling of this hotel. When I go to the Caribbean, I want to see the warm colors and fabrics this hotel does so well. Very friendly and hard working staff-one of the beast things here. Beautiful beach/pool. Specialty restaurants were very good-enjoyed El Colonial and La Geisha the most. The food selection and quality at the buffets was only fair. Pasta sauces all need a new recipe! That should be easy to fix. The food should be presented more attractively, especially the salads and hot food. The concierge idea didn't work well for us. The man was very pleasant but he continually hounded us to attend a "presentation" for a timeshare/discount plan that would give him points to make more money. Please! Just pay him more money to leave us alone!

I booked this stay in the DR after a positive experience at another Iberostar in Riviera Maya, Mexico. Some positives: gorgeous beach, great housekeeping, friendly reception and concierge, and comfortable accomodations. Some negatives: Kid's program did not appear to have a set schedule of operations the week we were there, to the point where we had to complain to reception; lack of variety of food at the dinner buffet service: thank goodness for reservations at the restaurants on premise; and lack of bar and pool service especially since at the Iberostar in Riviera Maya-wait staff at pool/beach was very attentive.

Nice Hotel but no plan to return

The room definitely did not feel like the rating it was given on the website. Our room was fairly small and the air conditioner leaked every day. We had to lay down towels on the floor to keep from falling on the slippery floor. Our room service though was wonderful and we looked forward to the customized "animal" towels. The hotel staff was nice but we did experience some bad moments where we were made fun of at the beach bar for not speaking their language and a general haughty attitude towards Americans. The other foreigners vacationing there were also exceptionally rude. They have no concept of taking turns or how to say "Excuse me". I thought the food in the restaurants was much better than the buffet. The best part of the trip was Dressel Divers. They were wonderful people, friendly and we had an excellent time on the excursions they provided. Overall, the hotel grounds are very pretty, nice pool, great beach, and good location. I just have no desire to return here.

Overall we enjoyed this hotel a great deal. The grounds and pool and Beach for beautiful and very clean and well-maintained. We were surprised by the fact that the majority of the guests were from Europe or South America but we all enjoyed the cultural experience we had because of that. We were a little disappointed in the buffet Foods but overall it was okay. We especially enjoyed the food at the Japanese restaurant and Mexican restaurant. The activities were fun and we had a nice mixture of relaxing and doing fun things. Are children parasail with a partner company on the beach and there were equipment issues that led to dangerous situations resulted in us getting our kids out of the boat and our money back. Overall it was a great experience and we would not hesitate in recommending it to our friends.

Loved this resort. Staff was wonderful, room was perfectly located. We requested rooms close to the pool and beach because one of my fellow travelers has a prosthetic leg. We were given rooms close to everything. The gardens and all the birds were fantastic. No complaints at all. The only negative for me was that there were a lot of very young children in strollers and crying. Not the resorts fault.

We loved the hotel, the staff overall were not friendly or helpful at all. We had to get our own drinks at the lunch facility and flag down staff for anything we needed. The specialty restaurants were 2 hour minimum and the food was mediocre at best. Our apple rep was non existent and never where he was supposed to be. We finally got him two days before we left. The hotel itself is fine, just need to update the attitude of the staff and increase the food quality.

The resort is completely run down. Showerhead falls down, toilet does not flush. It took us two days to get showerhead changed, and toilet was not fixed. Restaurant staff does not speak or understand English, so it is very hard to order or ask for something. As a result you get red wine instead of white, etc. The same with cleaning staff - they are very friendly but do not understand when you ask for a bar of soap. My German speaking friends experienced the same thing. Very few people who can understand what you need - mostly front desk staff. Concierges are also not helpful, they keep sending you from one to another.

This was my tenth visit with Apple Vacations to the Dominican Republic (6 Punta Cana, 4 La Romana) and, as always, it was fantastic. The people, food, resort/beach, atmosphere, and available activities were top-notch. Needless to say, I'll be returning again through Apple Vacations! Thank you.

Great place over the Christmas holiday

My husband and I stayed at the resort from December 22 - December 29 and had a great time. We got there on a Friday night and heard they had a seafood buffet my husband was very skeptical however we walked in and it was truly seafood with nice lobster tails. This was a great start to our vacation. Staying on the food aspect of the resort their Christmas buffet was absolutely outstanding. You had to make reservations if you had a large group, and all of the restaurants were closed on Christmas. We were one of the first parties in the restaurant for dinner and when you walked in there was so much food!! The entire back wall was cold seafood, the interior had many different dishes many with seafood as well, one dish that sticks out to me was the lobster lasagna, it was fantastic. In our search for resorts for this time we saw they would make paella on the beach on Wednesday’s we had paella on the beach three times while we were there for lunch, the second time I even was able to help make it. The bars at the pool and the lobby were always happening and the staff would make you anything you would like. My husband is a diver so he spent a good amount of time diving with Dressel Divers. There was a day he went out with the divers and I went on a snorkel boat. We met in Saona Island for lunch and we went back together on the snorkel boat. It was a great day on the water. Entertainment and entertainment crew “star friends” were great! We met Emilio there and he spoke English very well, as he had lived in the US for awhile. He was sure to get us into the action. Nights of dancing and fun in the pool. The rooms were not exciting but we are not at the resort to spend time in the room. We didn’t have a problem with or air conditioner as some reviews had stated, and the entire time we were there we did not see one mosquito. We have already said if we go back to the Dominican Republic we will go back to this resort.

Stay Away!!!

This resort is in desperate need of a renovation. All 3 of our rooms had peeling paint, leaks, broken plumbing and had to be fumigated during our stay yet they were the least of the issues. As a group of 8, 3 people got food poisoning on day 4 which the hotel claimed we “brought” with us. Will never return!

they rob you of your money, and do NOT deliver good service anywhere

Front desk personnel, and staff in the café ( especially those servicing breakfast) are NOT friendly, they do not give you a feeling of vacation. You ask for coffee, they make a face. You ask to set up a table for 3, they make a face. Not a pleasant experience. The room is average, but NO hot water in the room, Toilet does not work. We have reported it to them a few times, and nothing has been done still. No hot water in the room, and toilet does not work. The transfer company is rude ( Blue), no regards that you are on vacation: they would call your room at 8 am in the morning to request you to report to the front desk by 9 am to confirm your airport transfer which is not until 5 days from now. No consideration for the guests, and would speak with you with an attitude. Average hotel with overpriced services. They DO NOT deliver according to their promissed accomodattions. Not going back here again! The failed to make me feel I am on vacation.

Wonderful Holiday

Holiday booked last minute without much researching done, as regrettably due to hurricane Irma, had to cancel a long awaited holiday in Cuba. We were anxious in case this hotel was not to the same standard as our Cuban one. Thankfully we had a wonderful 2 weeks stay. We enjoyed every aspect of it & can I say when you are reading reviews....cling to all the positive ones. On saying that I will mention 2 minor points. Firstly, on arrival & during our stay, staff on reception were not friendly or welcoming. On arrival we didn't receive a welcome cocktail as we saw others receiving during the 2 weeks. It was nighttime & a map was given to us ....X marks your room ...find it ! Secondly .... in the library we trebled the amount of 'English' books in it.....so take plenty with you if you like reading. Would recommend this hotel & would return.
