Decent, beautiful beach, but with extremely rude front-desk, construction noise.

This trip was my family's second time to an all-inclusive resort in Cancun, but our first time to Iberostar Cancun. First Impressions Our first impression of iberostar was good- the lobby was large and beautifully decorated with high ceilings. Unfortunately, the positive impression only lasted about 10 minutes. Once we checked in and got to our room, we looked outside and saw that we were close to the construction, and worse, we could hear it loud and clear, even with the balcony doors completely closed (there was an open gap between the glass doors). Dismayed, we went back to the front desk to politely ask if we could get a room that wasn't so noisy. Unfortunately, here, we met EMMANUEL VIVANCO, an extremely rude front-desk employee. I don't know if he had a horrible day or just got dumped or what, but he was unfriendly from the beginning. My family was very polite and asked him if we could possibly switch to a less loud room. He switched us to another room, but when we got there, it was even closer to the construction (RIGHT in front of it!). Again, my parents and I were dismayed and went BACK to the front desk to ask Emmanuel if we could just go back to the original room. Again, we politely expressed that we were sorry for the hassle, but that it was even louder in the second room. Emmanuel then told us that we could not go back to the original room, because he had already switched us. He also told us in a rude, cold tone that we shouldn't have gotten the original room with the balcony in the first place- that we had not paid for a balcony room. We were very confused, and asked why we couldn't just go back to it since it had been given to us in the first place. He said that the front-desk girl that had given us the original room had made a mistake doing so, and that we would have to pay more to go back to the original room. We said we were confused and did not want to pay more- then he started insulting us, repeatedly saying things like, "Why do you want free things you did not pay for? You are asking for a free room?" and glaring at us! My family was NOT looking for free handouts at all! We just wanted to go back to the original room! We were very upset and horrified at the way we were being treated at this point, and my dad, who is normally a very reserved and patient man, became so upset that he had to walk away to cool off. What appalling treatment from a place that is supposed to be servicing hospitality! He even told us that if we wanted the orignal room, he will charge his co-worker that had made the mistake, instead. Are you for real??? I couldn't believe my ears. The way he was speaking and treating us was just unacceptable. When we asked to speak to a supervisor, he said "I am the supervisor!!" Who knows if that was even true. Needless to say, we were very upset and unhappy to be at Iberostar, at least for the first few days. This was so upsetting, because our trip was only 5 days long- and we had wanted to savour every hour we were there. We had never, ever been treated like this in any of our many travels before. Even thinking about it now is upsetting! Food The food is okay. Nothing super amazing, but the buffet was decent for the most part- there's lots of options and a ton of delicious, fresh fruit in the morning. The fruit tends to be less fresh in the lunch and evenings. My parents liked that the desserts weren't sickeningly sweet- just the right amount of sweetness. The ice cream is pretty good, they switch up and rotate flavours throughout the week. You need to make reservations for restaurants with the concierge when you get to the hotel. We went to all the restaurants. Here are our thoughts: Gourmet/French: not very good, so-so at best. Decoration was beautiful though! Japanese: it was ok. Nothing mind-blowing, but I enjoyed the octopus and shrimp off the grill. Steakhouse: My parents absolutely love the steak here; the tenderloin in particular! Mexican: Fiesta! I think this was probably one of the best restaurants- i would give it a 3.5 to 4 out of 5. Again, not mind-blowing but pretty good. The main dishes really were just okay but the appetizer buffet was great! Beach/pools The beach is beautiful and really large! Lots of beautiful water to look at and play in, the sand is nice and clean (no seaweed or anything), and only a few rocks in the water. Jumping in the waves was really fun. The beach also isn't super crowded since it's pretty big. Big plus for this hotel. There's lots of different pools to play in- and because there are so many, they also are not too crowded. The infinity pool was great, and the hot tub was my parents' favourite as well. Room Like I mentioned previously, our room (#222) was loud. Thank goodness the construction did end at around 6-7 so at least we were able to sleep. In terms of overall decor and structure, the room was dated (as I've read in other reviews) and in need of some upgrades. Cleanliness This was one of my Mom's favourite parts! Anthony, the cleaner, was amazing and cleaning our room everyday and even organizing it so it looked immaculate. He also made cute animals with towels for us to smile at when we got back to the room. :) Thank you! Entertainment As mentioned in other reviews, the entertainment is unfortunately dismal. They are honestly not worth going to at all. That's all I really have to say about that. Other staff Jesus, the concierge, was very friendly and gave us a wave every morning and wished us to have a nice day. Thank goodness for his friendly face, otherwise we might've been sour the whole trip. Anthony, the cleaner, was also all smiles every time we bumped into him. Other Tips If you ask the gardener, he can/will open up a coconut for you so you can drink the coconut water inside! We only discovered this on the last day so couldn't enjoy it much. Try it! Also, avoid Emmanuel Vivanco to protect your sanity. :P

Staff went above and beyond to make stay exceptional! Beautiful grounds, plenty of activities or lazing around.

My husband and I spent 5 nights at the Iberostar Cancun in early December 2017 and we arrived to smiling and welcoming faces. The hotel offers all inclusive and is dedicated to conserving the environment. It was my birthday and our Anniversary to which they surprised us with a birthday cake at dinner and we returned to our room to find chocolates , flowers and champagne beautifully presented. The food was fantastic, the service was always friendly and prompt. The staff are wonderful and always ready to help. Special shout out to the activities team, Claudia who takes yoga and fitness classes- what a passionate instructor who makes her classes fun and suited to every level. And Enrique at the steakhouse restaurant. The ONLY thing I would say with a grain of salt, are the rooms are the slightest bit dated. They are still clean and have full amenities, just signs of wear and tear. Overall, I couldn't recommend this Resort highly enough. Plenty of activities and beautiful grounds, swimming pools, the ocean is all right there. I look forward to returning.

Recent trip for 5 days. Stayed in ocean front villa...awesome views right in the beach. Drinks decent and did not seem watered down at all. Pools were never crowded and plenty of chairs to pick from around the pools and on the beach. My children with me were 9 and 12yrs old and we did not utilize the kids club as it had activities for about age 6 and under. The teen club why the video games was for age 13 up and never had anyone in it. Would be nice to open up to younger ages like 10 and up. Watched some NFL at thw sports bar with no issues...only thing that needs much improvement is the food. Hardly much choses at the buffet and was low quality and cold a lot. Speciality restaurants better but you do have to set up reservations when arriving. Juices for drink we obviously packet mixes and tasted horrible. Hardly any fresh fruit to be had at any meals. I think i was spoiled when staying previously at the Rui Peninsula down the street.

Well what can I say, the hotel and staff were amazing. I honestly could not fault anything in the hotel. The kids club was great open 10am - 5pm with plenty of activities. There were plenty of deckchairs, and all the swimming pools were nice and clean. The food was amongst the best I have ever tasted and varied from day to day so you didn't get bored of it. We went for 2 weeks and could honestly have stayed longer if we could! Highly recommended!

Beautiful Swim Out Villa Not To Be Missed!
CASECHI, Austin, TX

Booked a last minute first time trip to Cancun. Found the Iberostar and heard good things about the chain from friends. The Cancun property did not disappoint. I had the option of the swim out villa and it was wonderful. I'll be going back and booking it again. The grounds were very well kept and it's a beautiful property. I never left the five days I was there but next time I'll explore more. I ate at the buffet for most of the trip and there were plenty of selections that were high quality. Great selection of meats and fish, not just buffet fillers. I did eat at the gourmet restaurant one night and it was high quality. There is a dress code and everyone looked nice, but no gentlemen were in jackets (other then me). This was my first all-inclusive and I was unsure about tipping. Service was good but was better with tipping. Initially the tipping for standard service became the same tip for better service. The bar staff would come up to my swim out villa while I was in the pool and I was never without a drink. It does help to order two at a time as their territory was pretty large. Tip at the buffet and sit in the same section if you can and the staff will have your drinks remembered. An excellent introduction to Cancun. Highly recommended.
