Lost Reservation
ROSEMARIE M.
Jan 17 2018
Great vacation. Had a problem when checking in, they did not have our reservation. The hotel staff said it fell out of their computer system. I was a little concerned but they did give us a room. The system to get a beach hut to stay out of the sun was crazy, you have to line up and get in a lottery to reserve a hut for the next day. Other than these 2 concerns the vacation was fantastic. Beds were comfortable, pillows were comfortable, room was clean.

Second and last visit

We visited this hotel in 2000, and had a lovely experience. We visited in October (17 years later) and nothing has changed, which isn't good. The hotel is very dated, the lobby is not inviting (very simple), the pools need to be cared for as they are looking very old. The casino is dated and smelled of cigarette smoke. We were originally given a room in the Sea Tower which was absolutely horrible and overlooked the parking lot. This tower is old and dated. We asked to be moved and were able to do so the next day. We were moved to the Ocean Tower, which had a better view and the rooms looked a bit more updated, but not to my standards. We loved the cheeseburgers and fries at the outdoor bar (near the pool and beach), delicious. We did not see any entertainment while we were at the hotel; the place was very dead at night. We booked this trip through Apple Vacations and we never saw a representative at the hotel, or anyone that we could talk with to book excursions. The beach is absolutely beautiful, the weather tranquil and beautiful. The best thing about this entire vacation was relaxing on the beach. The hotel really doesn't offer much, so if you're a beach lover, you will love this place because it is right on the beach. This was our second visit; and our last to this hotel.

TOO MUCH NOISE

I rate the hotel very good from top to bottom, except for one issue. The noise from the Moomba Bar next door was so loud, I lost two nights sleep. That would need to be fixed before I would give a better rating or recommend to anyone.

We were there with 6 other couples and were under the impression that we would have rooms together. A block of rooms. We did not and were placed on different floors and in different towers. This is not what we signed for. Our agent said that we would be together. Otherwise the staff and the hotel itself were very acceptable. We did have a problem with one dinner at the hotel dining room but the manager very kindly took care of this problem.

What a wonderful first impression. The lobby is very inviting and has a wonderful breeze. Check in went well. Major problem. We arranged for 12 people to stay at the Holiday Inn. We requested rooms to be near each other. The trip was to celebrate the Drenner's 50th wedding anniversary. They had the worst room of the lot. This was not acceptable. Our travel agent requested all the rooms near each other and Drenner's should of had the best room. Cleanliness and friendliness of the staff was great. Everyone went out of their way to be helpful. We did have a problem at the Seabreeze Restaurant, but it was taken care of with the help of Kevin Anderson, hotel manager. We would stay there again, but would not recommend the restaurants.

50th Wedding Anniversary

A group of 12 traveled to the HI in Aruba for one of the couples 50th anniversary. When the reservations were made by our travel agent it was requested that all parties be in the near proximity of one another. We also requested room accomodations: queen/king or double beds. Phone calls made to the hotel and to Apple answered our questions and again requests were made. Once we arrived in Aruba we found out that our rooms were not close to each other, in fact the anniversary couple were in a different building! What a disappointment. I can only assume that Apple does not have good communication with the HI. What is the use of making reservations ahead of time if the requests cannot be honored. I guess the old saying"you get what you pay for" is correct. If it had not been for the fact that we were a party of 12 I would not have booked through Apple

I have traveled with Apple for the last 15 years and this is the first time there was not an Apple Rep. to meet us at the airport, I was looking for the flowered shirts. I was really surprised that there wasn't an Apple Rep at the hotel, I guess everyone is cutting back on help, but that was always one of the reasons I traveled using Apple it made me feel safe when out of the country to know that I had a rep. in the hotel certain hours if I needed help.

Outstanding hotel with great location on the beach. The GM and his staff do an excellent job to make you feel comfortable all the time. Cleaning goes on around the clock and every thing is immaculate. The rooms we have stayed in have been undated (Sea Tower) and very comfortable. Housekeeping stops in about 8 PM to check to see if you need anything. We have stayed at the HI many times and will continue to make it our home in Aruba, It is a good value, close to shopping and restaurants.

Prior to arriving at the resort I emailed them asking if they offer transportation from the airport to the hotel. It took over a week to get a response that they did not offer this service. I was surprised it took so long to get this simple response of no. We arrived at the resort around 2pm. We were offered the all-inclusive package upgrade which we were nervous about not doing since we always buy all inclusive. We decided not to upgrade as we wanted to go out to eat and explore the surrounding area. They gave us a towel card and our hotel bracelets. We were able to keep our luggage near the front desk while we got some food and waited for our room to be ready. We ate at one of the hotel restaurants and the food was mediocre at the least. It seemed like they used frozen food and just reheated it. We immediately were happy we did not opt to buy the all-inclusive package and never had another meal at the resort after that. Around 4:15pm we went to the front desk to get our room and heard a gentleman yelling about his room not being ready, so we started to get concerned. We got to the front desk and were told our room is not ready and they had no estimated time of when it would be. We waited another 15 minutes and still not ready so we were offered a drink voucher, as were many of the other people waiting for their rooms. This didn’t seem acceptable as check in time is 4, where most places is at 3pm. We spoke to the manager and she was able to get us into a room within 10 minutes. This was the first resort we have stayed at that did not have someone take the bags up to the room. You are on your own, which is not a big deal, but we have never seen this at any resort so it seemed strange. Our room was mediocre to say the least. The bathroom looked nothing like the pictures shown online when we booked the room. The cleanliness was poor. There was hair on the bedding, and just about every towel we ever used. It was really gross! There were also small ants in the bathroom all over the floor. We had no food in the room so not sure what caused them to be there. Our bed felt itchy every time we slept. We checked it and couldn’t visibly see anything, but just felt like something was on us all night. When housekeeping would come, it would be really late in the day and they basically made the bed, emptied garbage, and replaced towels. It didn’t look like they cleaned the floors or bathroom counter, and we even left them a tip every day. There was dirt right outside our door that we noticed was there from the time we got there until we left. The pool area was not very relaxing at all. The chairs were not comfortable and some of the umbrellas were broken. The chairs at the beach were even worse. I sat in one for about 5 minutes and had to get up as it killed my back. They clearly need to replace all their beach and pool chairs right away. We never felt like we fully relaxed. The atmosphere just was not relaxing. One of the 3 pools was not clean – very green. Another thing we noticed this report did not have is someone walking around taking drink orders. You have to get up to get a drink, and the bar area did not open until after 11:30. They could make good money by having someone walking around. The staff in general was not the friendliest. They always seemed unhappy and not interested. I would not return to this report nor would I recommend it to others. I feel there’s a lot of work they can do to improve the experience for their guests that should be expected when you go to any resort. Three simple things to start with: have a clean resort, offer comfortable bedding and seating, and have friendly staff. Thankfully Aruba is beautiful and the weather is amazing so we will not let this hotel experience deter us from coming back, we just would not stay here. On a positive note, they always had water stocked in the lobby that had lemon in it, which was nice to grab a cup and go. The location is also nice as it was close to all the restaurants and shopping. This really could be a great place if some effort was put into it.

This is my second time staying here and I can say my first time back in 2014 was better. Don’t get me wrong the hotel is clean and staffs are great but I just don’t care for the LOTTERY system they have now for the beach hut and chairs. It’s just sad that if you stay here..it will be a possibility that you won’t be able to get a beach hut and chairs to enjoy the beach. Many people I’ve spoken to wasn’t happy about it either. A few said they won’t be coming back here again. Unfortunately I’ve booked for October to stay here and I can’t cancel. Nobody wants to go on vacation and be aggravated. We were here for 5 days 4 nights. I had to rent a beach umbrella and chairs for $40 a day since I could not get one here. Another day we finally got a TENT a white TENT. The others days I didn’t even bother trying to get a beach hut. It was my mom birthday getaway celebration and her first time in Aruba so we didn’t let the lottery system ruined our trip. Honestly they need to come up with a better system for the beach hut and chairs so ALL of their guests are happy and be happy to come back again and again.

Second time in Aruba- @ Holiday Inn

We visited Aruba for the 2nd time last week and stayed at the Holiday Inn. The hotel has great location and is on nice clean beach. Our room was ready upon arrival and we stayed in Palm Tower. Room was clean, beds are comfy, however bathroom was small. The hotel is starting to show it's age with dirty carpets, musty smell. I love the hobby as it's all open and looks out on to beach with nice view. Biggest complaint is trying to get chairs around pool or palapa. Clearly there are not enough for how many people stay here.

This Holiday Inn is a cut above our concept of a Holiday Inn in the US. The entry way is lovely if a bit outdated. The breezy open concept is nice. The exterior is outdated which is unfortunate. The help is pleasant enough but not overly friendly. Businesslike and average. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Including the beds. I’d wish for firmer pillows but maybe that’s my hang up. The hallways smell musty which is hard to avoid in Caribbean areas but the room did not smell that way which was a relief. One of the elevators had issues while we were there but they seemed to fix it promptly. I would have liked to have seen a better job with vacuuming the halls which always seemed a bit messy with sand and wisps of paper, etc. That’s a pet peeve for me. Generally good value for the money. A reasonable walking distance from many things. Would I stay here again? Yes definitely. If my budget were higher next time I might try The Marriott or Hyatt Regency just to get a feel for the difference. Would give three and three quarter stars if I could.
