Satisfactory Stay- Pros and Cons
Priya S, New York City, New York

This is my second time staying at Grand Palladium (first time in Feb 2013) and not much has changed from my first experience except it was far, far less crowded this time around (assuming Zika related). Pros: 1.Tons of restaurant choices for dinner which is especially good if you are on a long stay so it doesn’t get boring. Also good if you are going with picky eaters so there are options for everyone. For those with dietary restrictions this place is also great for that. There is choice for everyone! The food was also pretty good. TIP: Miss Lou’s Café upstairs has the top shelf liquor that cannot be found on the other bars on the property. 2.Offers lots of activities on property including non-motorized water activities (Hobie Cat sailing, kayaking, paddle boarding, snorkeling). There are also paid excursions that you can sign up for on property either leaving directly from the property or a tour bus ride away. 3.Staff is always incredibly friendly and goes out of their way to be helpful. 4.Entertainment is provided in the form of shows, live musicians, and fire dancers with every night being different. Drinks are always flowing at these events. There is no real need to leave the property. 5. I was pretty worried about Zika and mosquitoes as this is a CDC warning area. However, I didn't see that many mosquitoes during my stay. I was also ultra careful covering myself with Off Deep Woods, wearing mosquito bands around my wrists and ankles, and carrying a clip-on OFF spray fan that was constantly going. I also tried to cover most of my body during the night. With the proper protection, you can make the visit happen. Cons: 1.The check-in process is extremely LONG and DISORGRANIZED. It was this way in 2013 when I visited as well. They need to get better systems or more efficient personnel to move through the process quickly (it takes about 30-40 minutes). After sitting on a long flight and a long drive from the airport, standing around waiting to be checked in (after 3PM check-in time) is the absolute last thing I want to be doing. 2.The resort is not technically located in Montego Bay but rather Lucea which is about 45 minutes ($60 cab ride) away from the airport. TIP: pre-book a shuttle which is about 50% cheaper through Holiday Services. 3.The resort is HUGE. If you are placed in one of the further rooms you will have a 10 minute walk to reach the main pool/lobby, a 15 minute walk to reach restaurants, and a 20 minute walk to get to the other side of the resort (Sunset Cove beach) where the water based activates are held. They do offer shuttle golf cart shuttle services but it is still a bit of a pain. It’s a total scam they always place new guests in the worst rooms and then offer an upgrade to the Lady Hamilton side which is much, much closer and centrally located. TIP: The upgrade fee is nominal ($25/night) and definitely worth it to be more central and a quick walk to everything. 4.Although advertised, the rooms on the Lady Hamilton side are not much nicer (I’ve stayed on both sides). You are better off waiting and then doing the upgrade during check-in because it will be cheaper. 5.The beaches on the resort aren’t that great and somewhat rocky- the beaches in Negril (Seven Mile Beach) are nicer. I am picky with beaches so the beach was perfectly fine for me but my husband preferred the beaches in Negril. 6.The property is very secluded. If you want to venture off property for dinner or to explore you will need a taxi and a drive. However, the resort provides plenty of dining options and also has pretty cool entertainment so this will probably be unlikely. Overall, I like Grand Palladium because of the extensive dining options (I am vegetarian and other more limited all-inclusive resorts were harder to eat) and the non-motorized activities. I also like how it was between Negril and Ochos Rios which we had excursions planned to so it wasn’t an unreasonable drive. It is a satisfactory hotel and I wouldn’t mind staying there again but will probably try out a new resort on my next trip. It is pretty pricey and there are lots of room for improvement if they want to keep the high prices, I would recommend doing a trip to Negril and visiting Rick’s Café and Dunn’s River Falls.

Resort spread over a really big area. There are buggies to take guests from one end to the other. Room and accommodation good. There was plenty of food but could do with more variation from day to day.

We had been sceptical about our visit owing to the number of reviews critical of various things but we were happy with the experience we had. The rooms were cleaned daily fresh towels and toiletries were supplied and the fridge restocked. We ate at the A La carte restaurants every night and had no problem booking but the food and service were not to the standard expected from a 5 * Hotel a word about service both in bars and buffet restaurants you could wait forever to be served if there were no supervisors present in the main bar it was quicker to go to the bar rather than wait for the waitresses to finish their conversation. There are plenty of sunbeds around so no problem getting one. What I did find annoying was having to listen to drunken guests high fiving and whooping all day and evening as if they were away from MOM and Dad for the first time.

February 9-15, 2017. Second time returning within three months. Without doubt best Hotel resort I've stayed. Upon Arrival we were warmly welcomed by the staff and Manager. My stay was absolutely perfect, from the kind courteous Staff. I would like to especially thank "Garth James" (Front Desk Manager) for exceptional service to me and my family. Check in was smooth, and efficient. Our room was WONDERFUL. All respect for the Manager (Garth James) who does a great job here, a true sample of excellent hospitality. I would recommend this Hotel Resort to anyone wanting a nice facility, clean grounds. This is just a great place to stay. You won't be disappointed. We will be back!!

My husband & I have been to the Grand Palladium TWICE for our wedding anniversay & we will be back this September 2017 for our 3RD vacation; this is how much we enjoy this resort. Normally we do not vacay at the same place twice but this is second to none. Staff is AHHHMAZING, friendly, hard-working "you name it"; the facilities are well keep; housing is fresh & just nice really. The ocean view "yes!" love love love this place. We are taking friends with us this time - yay!!
