We returned to the Golden Parnassus for the second time this year. On both trips we travelled with friends. On our first day of this trip we encountered our main problem: KIDS. There was a massive group called Cia Lazer, a tour group of Brazilian teenagers at the resort. We started to investigate and found out they were there for a month, bringing in a new group of kids each week. Some looked like they might be 18, but most were 14-17. We confirmed this by speaking with the kids. Hotel management was notified on multiple occasions but refused to acknowledge the kids were under 18. (If you don't believe me, research the Cia Lazer website) They had different colored wrist bands and the bartenders would not serve them alcohol. The group was massive (200+) and would return at 4-5am creating problems and being loud. However, during the day, the group was primarily out on tours so we would not see them. Ultimately, we were still able to have a good time by ignoring them to the best of our ability, but when you book an adults only resort, you expect it to be adults only. Aside from the children problem, this resort is an average to above average all inclusive hotel. Booze: I have read other reviews about the alcohol being watered down. If you want to get tipsy, TIP and ask for specific booze; ex. Captain, Jose, etc. Tips ensure you will be treated right. $1 every few drinks keeps them coming. Food: Better than average buffet. Avoid Shangri-La. We loved the Barn. Rooms: Average. When we arrived our room had dirty sheets. One day the maid left in the middle of cleaning. After, we just opted out of maid service. Pool and beach: Beautiful. The pool is missing a few tiles but it is Mexico. It is kept clean and otherwise well maintained. The waves are large so ocean swimming is only recommended for non-novice swimmers. Wifi: Paid, over-priced. $75 USD for the week. Final word: I wish I could say we would return to this place. If it were not for the children, we would definitely return. We chose to stay at adults only for a reason, and no longer trust this location to provide that experience. More>

Some Good - Some Not So Good

It seems that the GP is struggling. While they have tackled the A/C issue, it now works everywhere except the elevators, they have put brighter bulbs over the sinks, they have updated the pillows, added umbrellas at the pool and a few other improvements, they have cut other items. The front desk clerks are still rude and untrained. At check in, they tried to put us in a lower category room on purpose. Being a repeat guest, we know the room numbers we were to have. We heard other guests had the same issue and were forced to pay an upgrade for the room they had reserved. . If you room includes a stocked mini bar, now all you get are 3 beers, 4 sodas & 2 waters. No more doubles or juice. Some rooms used to offer a pass to the Airport VIP lounge. They have stopped that service. You order a frozen drink but get no straw. Ask for a straw and sorry I don’t have any. But the next person gets a straw? The drinks are not watered down, you have to ask for a named booze and as long as they haven’t run out, you’ll get it. The bars are not stocked as well as they used to be, they do run out more often. The food quality and portions size has dropped over the years, but one never goes hungry. The threat of personal items being removed from the pool/beach lounge chairs is lame. Being at the pool by 7:30AM seeing chairs ‘saved’ but no shows up for hours and nothing was ever removed by ‘Security Personnel’. The BIG concern was in the invasion of kids. Since the split with the Great Parnassus the Golden honored a huge reservation that included 15-17 year old guests. These children are unsupervised and have no manners. Ever see a 16 year old boy eat? Yuk! They have to be first on and off the elevators, no matter if other guests are trying to enter or exit. The ones that were over 18 took their visit as a spring break, returning from a night of drinking between 2-4AM. Fighting and screaming in the halls and outside stairway. Twice we had to tell them to quiet down, people were trying to sleep. Hector with a group this size and ages you didn’t think to add security? What about informing other guests a large group would be there but had off site activities planned and there should be no interruption to your vacation? What happened to the music? Go to the Sixties and hear 60’s music? No. At the pool in the mornings it’s some kind of soft jazz rework of rock and it’s the same track every day. Still the Activity People do not know how to speak with a microphone and their English is very poor leaving most of the guests to ask ‘What did he say?’ The Beer garden used to have Classic Rock, (which everyone seemed to like) now it some kind of Techno something that is just thump thump thump. Asked the bartender if it could be changed, no this is what we have. We go to GP to escape and relax. It’s not the place, it’s the people! Yamel, Jose Teo Santos, Gamma, Fonzie, Perfecto, Edith, Jose, Moses and of course Uncle at the pool. One last comment, the house wine is still disgusting. Walk to the mall, there's a grocery store now on the upper level. Get your own wine and you can take it to dinner. They removed the ice machines on floor 4 & 6. Only one now on the second floor go thru the unmarked door to the left of the elevator. More>

Visited this resort for the first time this year and it was a great trip. Waiters were attentive, food was good, atmosphere of the place was good, staff were excellent, and we had a great trip over to Isla Mujerus. Definitely will be back... More>

The bartenders Carlos and Jose made this solo experience even better. Great service! The location of the hotel for the price was great! Not a party hotel, which is what I was looking for so I had a great time. More>

The staff make the resort - but you won't get drunk!

We booked this for 4 adults, 3 ladies and 1 man. We knew it would be an average hotel, it is quite tired looking and really is in need of updating. We paid approx £900 per person to stay here but the main thing that lets it down is the watered down drinks. All the alcohol, apart from beer or tequila is watered down, without exception. The bar in the lobby may be a little better but everywhere else, the beach bar, the one by the pool are all watered down. It's a shame, we saw that new owners had taken over and saw a woman in leopard print swanning around but she didn't speak to any of the guests! Surely in order to see what improvements are needed, you talk to the people who pay to stay? The rooms are also basic, the bathrooms are better and are granite and clean. The beach is clean and well kept. All the staff make the hotel enjoyable to stay at, the food is very good but the alcohol issue lets it down hugely. More>
