My family has their wedding here and it's a beautiful resort but far from my expectations. First we get there and can't check in until 4. Okay that's fine but I get to the room and it's dirty. Like a guest had just checked out. Also it was a single bed when I booked double beds. They then apologized and have me another room but was unable to honor the double bed until the next day. I was okay with that until I get to the room and it smells like sewage. The hotel still couldn't change my room until the next day. So i had no choice but to stay in the smelly single bed room. They did change the room as promised however I didn't get the right room until after 4 the next day. I chose to make the best of the trip. We were out and came back hungry. There was no way to get anything to eat. Now I have been to all inclusive resorts and there was always some way to eat. No we had to wait until morning because we was told that the restaurant closed at 11. This was not an pleasant experience for my first time in St. Thomas.

Hotel was beautiful and staff very friendly but there were several cats walking around the resort especially in the two outdoor restaurants... when we asked we were told they just happen to live on the resort. it made the dining experience not very pleasant

After I booked the trip I read some unfavorable reviews of the resort. My expeditions were low and I was pleasantly surprised. I am a snobby traveler and this resort was perfect. I can't wait to return and am already referring friend and Family.

Found the hotel and room to be better than expected. The amenities were very nice. Drinks and meals were expensive (but probably in line for an island vacation). I found that 1/2 of the wait staff and cab drivers were good and the other half didn't seem to want to be doing what they were doing, which manifested in poor service. This was the most noticeable difference from other islands that I've visited. It did not affect my enjoyment, I reflected the service in my tips and didn't patronize those places where the services were less than expected. Overall, beautiful place with good amenities and I plan on returning.

This was one of the worst hotel service ever! I've called and emailed to confirm our reservation several time. On the day off, not only were our rooms not ready on time but they got the reservation completely wrong. We did not even get the island view that was promised when we booked the vacation through apple. Checking in took over an hour. Check out was even worst! They had charged us a resort fee even though an Apple rep confirmed that fee was covered by our package. It took 45 mins to get everything straighten out. We almost missed our flight. These are a few of the many things that went wrong with our stay at the hotel. The only thing this resort got going for them is the view.

Frenchman's reef exceeded our expectations! It is a beautiful and relaxing hotel with service at your fingertips. We could not get over the pool area and the beauty. The staff were always willing to answer your questions, help you with local outings and transportation. They always looked out for your safety. The food good, the cocktails excellent! The location of the hotel on the point guarantees a beautiful sunset every day! We did not miss any! I want to go again next year in January!

The hotel was very large & spread out. The pools are beautiful & never seemed over crowded. The beach had soft sand & it was very relaxing. There are LOTS of stairs to get to the pool, beach or boat docks; fortunately for me I didn't mind the exercise (there were so many stairs, I didn't feel the need to use the fitness center)! My biggest complaint is that on the hotel web site it said scuba was available, but it wasn't. I was told that it was too expensive to insure & they discontinued it over 2 years ago. The main reason I selected the Marriott was because I wanted to go scuba diving. When I was searching for hotels & reading about available activities if scuba was not available, I didn't even consider the hotel. So even though the Marriott was beautiful & the trip turned out good, I would have never selected to stay there if I would have known they didn't really have scuba available.

The staff we're very helpful and their restaurants were equally as good. Pricing for neccessities I thought were alittle over priced as were the bars, otherwise we had an excellent vacation. Thanks to the professional service that we got from our travel agent Chris Cancilla.

This is 2nd year we have stayed at Frenchman's Reef. Not as world class as last year. We got there at 2:00 and check-in is 4:00. Stood in lines with 20 other people groups at desk multiple times until we got a room around 6:00 PM. At check-out the bill had a $30/day resort activity fee (beach chairs, umbrellas, etc). They said this began 11/1/2011 and all travel agencies were informed. They agreed to remove this from our bill. The card listing the details of the resort fee was given to our travel agent - Joyce Robertson, AAA, Chambersburg, PA so that agency was informed. Food is expensive but was good at all restuarants. The buffet at Coco Joe's was excellent.

I really liked this hotel. The rooms were very spacious and luxurious. The resort had multiple restaurants which were all a little above average. The price of the hotel itself was a little high, but with the hotel you get multiple pools and a private beach which is very nice. Overall, I would recommend it if you were staying in St. Thomas. It is most likely your best option :)

Stayed in August from the 9 August to the 25 August. The staff particularly in the restaurants, housekeeping and front desk were amazing and took GREAT care of us. My room was perfect and I loved everything about my stay. It was about my 30th stay at the hotel and it was especially meaningful now that the hotel will now be closed for an extended period of time due to IrMaria...

The resort was very nice - I wouldn't recommend the condo style - the beach is less than par on this side. Lost of coral / rocks. The beach on the hotel side is beautiful but it is a HIKE. Staff is very friendly. You do not have beachside service ... you can go to the bar to eat. It would be nice if the resort offered shuttle services to town. It was very expensive to take our family to town every evening for dinner 10.00 per person .....(Resturant's are fantastic at every price point). Iguanas are everywhere; they will not bother you.... but they can look intimidating ;). I would probably choose as all inclusive resort next time. The pricing for food is very expensive in St Thomas. I should mention the ferry ride to town is a nice change from the cab rides :)

An Island Stay Before A Cruise
VMSNS007, Fort Lauderdale, Florida
Fri Nov 10 11:21:12 EST 2017
We stayed at the Frenchman's Reef & Morning Star Marriott Beach Resort for one week before taking a cruise from San Juan, PR. Our room was down by the beach and not in the main hotel. The hotel provides a shuttle to make this journey easier, especially upon first arrival. The room was quite large and comfortable although not luxurious or modern. The balcony was most welcome. A better choice would have been a room overlooking the ocean. There are some open air restaurants at the beach, where we had a couple of dinners, but we preferred the restaurant in the main building for both breakfast and dinner. From here the view of the bay was wonderful both morning and evening. There are tennis courts and a swimming pool by the beach, plus some other pools at the main building. There is a small supermarket / shop in the main building. You can also make island tour arrangements in the main lobby. The town of Charlotte Amalie is a taxi ride away and there is quite a lot to see and many nice restaurants. If you like jewelry shopping you will spend some time here. There is a water taxi from the hotel to Charlotte Amalie, but be prepared for a lot of steps to get to the water taxi. There are a lot of stairs in this resort! Be prepared to get some exercise, unless you use the shuttle bus. We enjoyed the walk to the main building where we saw a waterfall and many iguanas! There is a beautiful garden location for small weddings or private activities at the main building. The photos from here must be stunning. The staff was friendly and we enjoyed our stay at this hotel.

Comfortable, Convenient, Great place to stay with kids

We stayed at this resort in December 2016. We were traveling with smaller kids and needed a resort with several pools, an easy access to the beach and a beach restaurant. We were overall really happy, my kids loved it. We liked the food selection at the restaurants for adults and kids (my kids loved the open air beach restaurant with simple bar-type food). All staff members were super friendly and helpful. The pool areas and the pools were clean. The infinity pool and the views from it were just amazing (plus it has a swim up bar). The rum drinks were large and strong. At first the hotel was fairly slow but as we were getting closer to the holidays, it was getting packed. We really enjoyed it during the slower portion of the stay as we were seeing the same guests over and over and it felt really intimate. The views from our rooms were amazing. We were able to watch cruise ships in the mornings when they pulled into the harbor and watched them leave from the pool in the evening. The location is great, close to the main town. One doesn't really need a car because the hotel has a water taxi that goes downtown to where all the shops and restaurants are located. We went shopping on a day with no cruise ships and most stores and restaurants were closed. The town is much more lively with the cruise ship visitors, even though they make it crowded. The hotel also has a catamaran and daily sailing excursions. We had a car and took daily trips to explore all near-by beaches. So much to explore on this small island. We would go to Red Hook to eat (there is good Thai restaurant and a lively Mexican restaurant). The beach at the hotel is beautiful but it is pretty rough for small kids, big waves rolled in all day. We did rent kayaks (free for an hour). Once we got passed the break, water was really calm. There were beach toys on the beach for kids to borrow and also plenty of beach chairs and umbrellas. People would save chairs with umbrellas when the hotel was getting more crowded. There are rooms on the beach - Morning Star. We didn't stay on the beach. Stayed in the newer part of the hotel - Frenchman's Reef. We did a lot of walking up and down the stairs as the Frenchman's Reef with 2 pools, spa and restaurants is located on the top of a hill overlooking the ocean. There is another pool and a restaurant on the beach. All rooms are nice, really the same size and look the same. Furniture was new, rooms looked renovated. There was also a small store near the lobby that sold alcohol, wine and breakfast items, sandwiches and coffee among other things. Some mornings we didn't care for the breakfast buffet experience and we grab a coffee and breakfast pastries here. Grounds were very tropical. Our only issue throughout the stay was the noise level. One night we stayed in a room above the lobby terrace and I listened to a pretty drunk and loud crowd till 2am. Since we have small kids, we cannot really join the festivities. Then we were moved to the top floor and unfortunately our neighbors decided to party in their room till 3am. I didn't call the reception because I didn't think that they would kick out guests from the presidential suite, but the next day when I mentioned it, the reception manager said that they would definitely send someone up there after 10pm no matter who the guests were. Good to know. I did get ear plugs after that night and they helped.
