Enjoyable Stay
JESSICA H.
Apr 05 2018
We traveled to Tulum Dreams for a family anniversary, and enjoyed our stay for the most part. It was a very family-friendly resort which was great for our multi-generational group. The hotel rooms are adequate, but small. We had some hiccups traveling with Frontier airlines-baggage fees, fees to ensure seats together, etc. Tulum Dreams was also unable to get all 4 of our hotel rooms together, which was a bit of a disappointment.

The resort property and its staff are top notch. Food and drink options were amazing, and the restaurant staff goes out of their way to accommodate for food allergies. Highly recommend this property!

The staff at this resort was phenomenal, Wili took great care of our room, Benito Mojito found us a great list of non-alcoholic fruity drinks and Claudia Xool took great care of us at the restaurants. It was pretty humid in our room, but other than that the whole experience was phenomenal and we would definitely stay again!

We stayed at this resort due to it's 6 golden apple rating. I wouldn't rate it that high. I would rate it maybe 4 golden apples. It's a decent resort. The people were nice. The beach wasn't that great, lots of rocks. We saw people fall every day stepping on those rocks. The food wasn't very good and there wasn't enough selection in my opinion. There's no reason to go to the city of Tulum either really. Not that it's bad, it's just not what I expected.

Dreams Tulum was great! Took about 1.5 hours to get here from the Cancun airport but worth the drive. Hotel is secluded and not in the hotel zone. You can walk the beach in either direction for quite awhile. Beach is gorgeous. Entertainment staff is fun and great at their job. Rooms were clean. Food was pretty good! Expect a sales pitch with hotel coupons and deals right after check in, if not interested just let them finish their pitch (about 5 minutes), tell them no thanks and you can get on with your vacation.

Our trip was quite good however our first day while waiting to be able to access our room, we went to grab lunch. Attempting to wash up for lunch we discovered that the restrooms had no water. I reported the issue to the hostess and she seemed unaware. She showed me to another restroom that also had no water. I again reported this issue to the hostess and again she seemed surprised. Not the best start to our trip. It was resolved during our meal. That same evening we discovered that our room did not have any hot water. We reported the issue. No one showed up to repair and no one called to update us. We called again and were told that it was a resort wide problem. It took several hours to resolve. Strange that we found ourselves having to resort water issues 4 times on our first day.

There was a puddle in our room when we arrived. The thermostat would not go below 20 C, and to sleep that is low enough. The first night it did not get below 21 C, so I went to the front desk and told them about it and they said maintenance will be right there---well and hour or so later they showed up. That only resulted in a 1 less degree in temp. Then Sunday, all of a sudden my key and my husbands key did not work. I went, yet again, and there happen to be more people with the same problem. Don't know what that was about. Unfortunately, there were about 3 or 4 groups checking in while I needed to get my key reprogrammed. Not very good. I I I believe management needs to look into what they are doing that is creating such problems. The massage therapists were great! I wish Silvia lived near me in IL!

The pool deck area needs resurfacing, one can see the rusty rebar in areas that guests have to walk on. In other areas it's so rough you can almost cut your feet. Everyone wants a tip, even for saying hello. Kind of annoying, don't mind tipping but only do it for great service.

This is the second time we have been to the Dreams Tulum (about 5 years apart). It did not disappoint. It is nice to have a private beach, great landscaping, excellent food. The only downsides were longer wait times at some of the nicer restaurants and the cleaning staff seemed short staffed (it was our anniversary and we did not get any of the complimentaries that came along with the anniversary stay). Overall, we had a wonderful vacation and would recommend to friends and family.

1. the dolphin pool needs redone in areas, and take off that popcorn finish at the pool bar. 2. Can you please announce what the entertainment team is doing in other areas. Maybe just a FYI 10 minutes to beach volleyball. 3. Some restaurants took 2 hours to eat. We were seated right away but it took forever in between courses. 4. others in our party did not receive maid service till like 5:30 at night then the turndown was like 1/2 hour later.

Beware of 90 minute sales pitch
Erin L,
Thu Apr 19 21:08:43 EDT 2018
I went to Dreams with 3 girlfriends. The resort is beautiful and we found the staff extremely nice and helpful. We only swam in the family pool as the big main pool was cloudy looking and full of drunk adults. The drinks were ok but the wine was disappointing. We found the food mediocre at best and sometimes downright bad. We liked the Italian restaurant the best and the FRESH guacamole at the Mexican restaurant. So, about the pitch...I believe everyone gets approached to attend a “90 minute pitch over breakfast” within the first 30 minutes of arriving. We were stuck longer in the lobby when we arrived than we should have been because they did not have our rooms next to each other like we had requested, ugh. We were approached and convinced to do the chat because the guy offered us steep discounts on the massages which run $195 each for 50 minutes! Anyway, the “90 minute pitch over breakfast” for membership to their vacation group turned into a 3 hour hard sell that moved from breakfast to their membership lounge. We had to say no to 3 different people before we could leave politely with our massage discounts. We felt misled and hoodwinked. They up the prices of extras so they can bribe you with discounts to hear their pitch. The memberships run $25,000 and up! Of course hey don’t tell you that until 2.5 hours in. Besides that and the mediocre food, it is a beautiful and peaceful resort.

Lovely Views, but Customer Service is LACKING!

We prepped for a family wedding for nearly nine months. We were beyond excited to finally arrive at the resort, but upon check-in, we were quickly deflated. Due to a communication issue with our travel agent, we were booked one night too few. Instead of alleviating our concerns and allowing us to check-in and deal with the extension over the next 24 hours, front desk staff turned us away and told us to contact our travel agent. Good thing we had my father-in-law's internationally-capable phone. We returned to the front desk 20 minutes later and checked-in. Our room was beautiful, the non-front-desk staff were genuine, kind, and courteous. The views, both from our room and from the beach, were stunning. The wedding was gorgeous and went off without a hitch. (use your own photographer, though) Pool was great - not too chilly, but it did get cloudy as the day went on and post-thunderstorm. Grounds are gorgeous and there are plenty of places to either catch the sun or stay out of it. The World Cafe is alright. It's a buffet, so... The fish is lovely, but the desserts lack flavor (and sugar). Breakfast is the best time to hit the buffet. Choose Portofino or the French restaurant for a better selection. We chose to do an excursion to the cenotes, ziplines, and ATVs- worth the money, but be aware there is the possibility of a rain-out if thunder and lightning strike. More front desk problems arose when we touched base with the manager Sunday before we left for the excursion. I thought I'd check in to make sure we didn't need to do anything to confirm our one-night extension. I was told that the extension was added, but that we would need to move rooms! We have a nearly 3-year-old and were heading out for an excursion that would bring us back after the hotel's extended check-out time. I asked Jorge what exactly his plan was for letting us know. He didn't have an answer. He attempted to guilt me into accepting the move and other room by mentioning that we received a free upgrade and were currently in an Deluxe Ocean View room. Pretty sure it wasn't MY fault that THEY gave us an upgrade. I explained that we had a young child, would be gone for the day and would not be having anyone touch our things. I told him he needed to FIX IT....and magically, what had been, only a few moments ago, impossible, was now fixed. Don't let front desk staff give you the run around. Multiple people in the wedding group had issues at check-in, too. Unfortunately, our troubles were not over. We phoned Sunday night to have our shuttle reservation moved to 10 from 8:45 so we wouldn't be at the airport 4.5 hours early. My husband confirmed, multiple times, the 10AM reservation. We arrived in the lobby at 9:40 only to be given a "missed pick-up" slip for a 9:30 departure...and the slip was time-stamped at 9:45 (5 minutes into the future?!). The concierge desk was unhelpful and did not attempt to reschedule or help. The woman from Mayaland/Greyline accused me of lying after I stated we had been there for 20 minutes when she stated the shuttle waited until 9:50, meaning we could have caught it and they instead left us. We had friends on that shuttle who said it waited until 10AM and our friends told the driver they knew us. Also, somehow, the reservation was in my 3-year-olds name!? We finally had to take a $100 cab ride to the airport. Overall, while I would return to Tulum, I would NOT stay at this resort again, even though it smells heavenly (seriously, there are scent infusers everywhere). There is no respect for the customer and there is minimal service from the front desk.

Family holiday with young teens

Excellent hotel with good rooms and great location. We stayed in junior suite before switching to adjoining rooms, they are available, but again cannot be reserved until on site. The resort is on a white beach and built in local style. Impression is a small village. There is seaweed on the beach on a constant clean up, but its all part of an eco-system that sees pelicans cruising above your head and big iguanas strolling past your bali bed (can be reserved). The choice of restaurants is good as is the quality. There is no reservations apart from the teppanyaki tables, there are 2 each seating 10, book 2 days in advance, its worth it. The unlimited luxury aspect is more then satisfying, pretty much anything anytime, if they do it you can have it, constant (kids and adults) treats left in your room every night a bonus via expedia. The entertainment team work very hard and that's what makes this hotel...the staff....they all work very hard to help you have a good holiday. You never have to search for someone and the fact that money is not needed, any tipping is really about that extra service. One of the pools can get a bit loud, but there is a quieter one. Some of the best sites and attractions are a short ride away. Chichen Itza, Tulum, Xcaret, Xel-Ha, Rio Secreto, Cirque de Soleil Joya and swimming with dolphins and turtles at Akumal beach.

Family wedding got off to a poor start. Nice location. Rooms in need of redecorating.

We travelled to Dreams,Tulum after 9 months of preparation for our sons wedding. My husband and I were rooming with my elderly mother and had booked through a travel agent. We had requested 2 queen beds or two double bed in a deluxe ocean view junior suite. When we arrived they did not have the room we had booked. They assigned us a room with a king bed only. Front desk staff informed us that they could bring in a rollaway bed for my Mother. At NO point is it OK for an elderly person to be offered a rollaway or for that matter any full paying adult should not be expected to sleep on a rollaway. We refused to accept this room. The hotel blamed our travel agent, our travel agent blamed the hotel and around and around we went. We were in the lobby for 2 hours, where we were offered several other rooms, none of which were the type we had paid for, or would accommodate an elderly person with bad knees. We were told they would move us the next day to a different room but when only staying a few days and with an elderly person that was not the answer we expected. The bottom line is the hotel knew there were 3 full paying customers staying in the room therefore a king bed should never be an option for that situation. Finally we agreed to a downgraded ground floor room with 2 double beds but when we arrived in room the smell of sewage and mildew was so offensive we had to decline that room. In the end we were forced to take a king bed room with a cot that my husband (father of the groom) slept in. The next day we were moved to another room which they claimed to be "one of their best rooms". It was ocean view and had 2 double beds. It was on the second floor approx 24-28 steps up for my mother, who was able to manage but not without pain. The room was in need of renovation and was above a cafe, so very noisy. After the initial problems we had a pleasant stay. Pool was fun but cloudy. Food is OK but certainly not amazing. The french restaurant was the best food we had but not luxury. Beach was covered in seaweed.

It was a great experience from the first moment we stepped foot inside the resort. They welcomed us with sparkling wine and warm towel. The entrainment team is great and I would like to thank in particular JOSE. It has been great and incredibly friendly!!!
