DREAMS RESORT AND SPA PUNTA CANA
JANE S.
Nov 08 2017
The hotel needs air conditioning. The rooms need to be updated, especially the bathrooms. The entertainment could have been better, especially without air conditioning and only one fan working. The specialty restaurants were very good. Need more excursions that don't involve snorkeling. Overall we had a good time and we're treated nicely.

Hotel and the staff were excellent. Food was incredible and the grounds well maintained. The only issue was the vendors the resort allowed in that pestered people to buy stuff. Was annoying and couldn't get away from them.

Excellent service & staff
CHRISTOPHER S.

This was our first trip out of the country and the resort was beautiful. The service, staff, and food were amazing! The only thing we didn't care for was the hotel pushing a time share. They were not content with NO as an answer.

How many Apples?
SCOTT N.
Oct 23 2017
Hotel was OK, housekeeping was only adequate. Staff was somewhat indifferent at times, but never rude. Overall, it didn't seem to live up to its Golden Apple rating, in comparison to similar (or even lower) ratings I have encountered previously. Apple staff on site were helpful, and Manuel Garcia Apple rep at the Punta Cana airport was exemplary - going above and beyond his role in helping to recover a missing backpack - his assistance in an unfortunate situation, was the SERVICE HIGHLIGHT of this trip, and I appreciate it very much.

Tip Hungry and Attitude
NICOLE E.
Oct 18 2017
For being an all inclusive resort, the staff was very very tip hungry to the point of straight out asking for tips. We believe we should tip for good service but the staff expected it at every turn. The hotel also made it extremely difficult for us to get $1 bills for our 20's. Much of the staff also had an attitude when serving us. We were put off by these attitudes and will choose someplace else next time even though the resort was beautiful.

Breathless Punta Cana was just that!
CARL H.
Oct 16 2017
We were upgraded form the Dreams resort to the Breathless resort. What a great experience. The rooms were very nice, swimming pool right outside your back door and maid service three times a day. The E-team had top quality entertainment and they really made you feel special. This is a adults only resort and the atmosphere was just that. They had something for you to do or keeping you entertained every minute of the day and night. Music and dancing went on until 3:00 AM. Everybody that worked at the resort was amazing and courteous. I want to give a big shout out to two great guys on the E-team, Yendel and Redbull. I would definitely recommend this resort to adults looking to let loose and go out and have a good time. My wife and I are both 60 years old and we are telling everyone about it and we definitely plan on going back next year!!!

Front Desk

The front desk was very helpful but gave horrible time estimates. When we checked in the said come back at 3 to get our room, our room wasn't ready to 3:30. we wanted a King size bed, and received two doubles. They told us to check out the next day and we could get a new room. The next day we checked out at noon and were told to come back at 3 to check into our room. When we came back a 3 our room was not ready and were told to come back in five minutes and were told that every 15min for a hour and a half till our room was read. I wish they would have just told us that our room wouldn't have been read till 4:30 so we couldve enjoyed more time on the beach.

Moved to Dreams La Romana due to Hurricane Marie
HARRY S.
Oct 01 2017
I want to give Dreams an Excellent on taking care of its customers. They moved us to La Romana on Wed morning for our safety for the remaining 4 days/4 nights of our stay. We didn't care for La Romana, we had been there before, don't like the rooms or the outdoor buffet, food is not as good as Punta Cana and the staff is not as friendly. We lost out on the room as we pay for a Deluxe Swim out Room and only had 2 days to enjoy it before being moved to a room that had a musty smell and no walkout to lounge chairs, pool, etc. Once the sun was shining and we could go to the pool, had to be there at 8:00 a.m. to get a chair with an umbrella, don't have to do that at Punta Cana, which is why we pay extra for swim out.

Lots to choose from

Pros: - Friendly staff, especially Edry (the best), Francisco, Jesusa and her colleagues from the Japanese restaurant. Also the girls at the reception of Portofino restaurant. - All the resort is ran by an army of employees. There's no chance you can't find somebody when needed. - Room service 24/7. - Large, clean pool. Huge I might say. - Big rooms. - Diverse food. - Free WiFi. (see cons also) - Good esspresso at Coco Cafe, in the lobby downstairs. - The gym is acceptable, although it could use an upgrade of the equipment, which are good brand, Matrix, but you can tell they've seen better days. Cons: - Rooms are large, but they need renovations. - Restaurants too. They look like in the 80s. - Table management is poor. We've waited more than 25 minutes to clean a table for us. We've been told it would be ready in 3 minutes. Another issue: we saw 3 people being seated at a 10 persons table, multiple times. Obviously, not good for the business or the clients. - Although WiFi was free, this would desperately need an upgrade. It keeps disconnecting you and there's nothing you can do about it. - Very poor cleaning of the glasses, which are all plastic (around the pool I mean). It's best to bring your own drinking recipient. - Very poor management of personal events advertising, so that when guests enter the resort could know what restaurants are closed for the public and what dates. For instance, we tried to save Bordeaux for the last evening, only to find out it was closed. If it would've been advertised in the brochure from the beginning, we would've gone in the first night there. - Very bad "black water" (should be read "coffee") (esspresso available at Coco Cafe in the lobby. La Cimbale esspresso machine) Tips: - Choose the beach if you're a beach person. It's a lot nicer than the pool, you still get service, WiFi and baldakins. - If you come 2 or more families, one is enough to take the Preferred option for all. - If you dislike drinking from plastic-who-knows-how-they've-been-cleaned glasses, like me, buy yourself a recipient from the lobby shop and use that for the drinks. You'll also have a souvenir. Special thanks to Mr. Juan Gigante from all of us!!

Upon arrival we had a bit of stress and we were a little bit sorry because we got an ugly room with bad smell but after talking with the receptionist we got a beautiful room overlooking the pools and beautiful botanical garden Clean rooms, daily replenished toiletries, mini bar (water, cola, fanta, sprite, beer), coffee, sugar, milk. The rooms have free safe, tv, internet access throughout the area with a very good range even on the beach Huge pool with hot water and hotel mattresses, beautiful botanical well-kept garden with parrots, turtles, flamingos, peacocks and lizards Beach clean, no algae, enough sunbeds, there were also comfortable couches Around the area are many bars and places where you can dine practically all day from several types of hot dog burgers, gyros, pizza without having to walk to the main restaurant. Also theme restaurants, no limit and reservation. Meals with very good products, fresh and tasty.Drinks made from original alcohols Hotel service is always nice and always welcoming The hotel does not have mosquitoes, they regularly spray the area, At the entrance to the restaurant, in the bars and bathrooms are preparations for hand disinfection. To sum up the hotel is well managed deserves such high opinion. The entire team of animation is without a doubt this hotel would have been kind to them as the family were with us for 14 days from morning till night entertaining us and making us feel almost every part of the hotel at 6 Jay-Z, Scooby Doo, The Best Dancer, Yari, Heart, Littel Girl.Number 1 foto man Eduardo,The Best of Barr Rating 6 deserves Emenla, Raffael, Loreto, Carlos, Linno, on the beach the best always smiling was Raffael for them all Thank you and we will come back to you as soon as possible

We stayed at Dreams Punta Cana for a full week and had a great time dispite the constant rain. We booked through Costco Travel, which included some resort coupons, airport transfer, and excursion credit trough Blue Travel. The Blue Travel staff member never showed up to discuss any excursions and we had to call to set up airport transfer after attempting to meet him in the lobby each day (we were told he would be there daily at 9am to help). There were plenty of other companies providing excursions, but we felt gypped as we had excursion credit to use (but apparently they didn’t want us to use it). Upon arrival, we had to meet with concierge staff who explained this raffle and their organic resort 5 minutes away. We are unexperienced to all inclusive resorts and found out the next day this was some sort of timeshare/sales promotion. They tried to get us to go to a 90 minute presentation so that we could receive a $100 spa credit. Once we clearly understood what was happening, the staff member told us if we didn’t go it would reflect poorly on him (major guilt trip). We walked away as fast as we could and never saw him again (thankfully). It rained every day of our trip, which was unfortunate but we did receive a few hours of decent beach and pool time that made it worth it. The resort grounds, pool, spa, and beach are well maintained and very beautiful. Staff cleans the beach daily to remove as much seaweed as they can and keeps it very well groomed. The rooms definitely need some updating however. You can tell that the resort has painted all walls as an update, but they need to make some serious updating. Many of the roofs need desperate repairs - shingles are missing in several of the covered walkways and restaurants. It was pouring and the roof in the theater allowed a heavy sprinkle fall on us throughout the nightly event. When it rains hard, it showed where all the leaks are (and there are many) in the World Cafe and the walkway into the lobby. The alcohol was constantly flowing and it’s not difficult to get a drink here. DR alcohol was okay, nothing to rave about and I️ wouldn’t purchase it after this trip. Some bartenders make drinks WAY better than others, but overall not bad. On a brighter note, the food was surprisingly really good! We ate at all restaurants besides the Asian restaurant, barefoot grill (grilled burgers and hot dogs), and the grill next to the pool (I️ think Barracuda?). We didn’t want to eat hot dogs and burgers, which is why we avoided these. Also we heard really positive things from other people about the Asian restaurant, but never went. We went to the World Cafe for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This is the only sit down place for breakfast for non preferred club members. They have lots of options such as a Mexican breakfast burrito, egg, smoothie, and crepe station. It was amazing the first two days and then realized it was the same exact food every morning. There are lots of fruit, potatoes, bread, and then an assortment of random options (ie pineapple ham, sushi, etc). They switch things up for lunch and dinner and there are more options. They’re open to 2am so beware that depending on when you go there is a wide range of freshness. While you may not be hungry at noon, but this is when they put out the lunch options and if you go at this time you will get the freshest food options. We thoroughly enjoyed going for an early lunch, but can be picked over for a late dinner. Definitely a little bit of something for everyone and it had waiter service too. If you’re in a big group you will be heavily attended to. We had some difficulties getting drinks (they serve it you can’t get it yourself) you could be somewhat neglected. For dinner and lunch they have a pasta/risotto, pizza, and taco/burrito station. Also, there is a heavy assortment for bread, fruit, and desserts. They usually have 2-3 big cuts of meats that you can get slices of (crispy pork leg, ham, beef, etc.) They also have a station where you can get freshly grilled meat (sausage, chicken, beef, etc.) - so lots of options. La Trattoria has pizza slices and a bar that you can stop by at lunch. It is close to the beach and pool, so you can quickly stop by to pile a plate and leave. Super convenient and tasty! Bordeaux was closed - staff told us they were redoing the floor? But this is where they host wedding receptions - at least one wedding occurs at this resort per day, sometimes they do 2-3. Seaside grill has lots of grilled meats and is very good. The spinach dip is super yummy and so are all the steak options! This resort knows how to cook a steak. Between me and my partner we ordered a steak a night every night and it was always done perfectly. You want medium rare, it comes out perfect. Portfino is extremely popular and you may have to wait for a table during peak times. We had the gorgonzola steak and the penne with clams. Both surprising good, but I️ didn’t understand the hype of this place. Our favorite place was Oceana. Breakfast and lunch are only opened to preferred members, but they allowed us to eat here for lunch for several days. We ordered the shrimp and scallop ceviche, grouper ceviche, caesar salad with shrimp, clam chowder, surf and turf, poutine, peel and eat shrimp, mahi mahi curry, sea bass salad, and shrimp kebabs - all were super good! We would happily eat here again! Definitely our favorite place at the resort and is ocean front. Just a FYI that menus are different onsite than what is listed online - slight variations, but worth noting. The beach rules are quite confusing - there are buoys outlining a small section of the water. After many whistles from the sometimes present lifeguard to guests - we asked them why they were whistling and telling us to get out of the water. They told us that we are only allowed to go into the water where the buoys are as there are rock formations in the water beside it. When there wasn’t a lifeguard, we did indeed find a few rock formations in the water, but the resort needs to put up some signs so that we know that! Also there is a floating jumper in the ocean that has rules in the side 1) 2 people at a time on it 2) 1 person can jump at a time 3) children under 12 must be supervised. I’ve seen over a dozen people on it and the lifeguard said nothing. We tried to get on it and were told to get off. We saw another man trying to get in it and was told to get off. Again, the whistling lifeguard with rules we don’t understand. We came back to shore and asked why we were told to get off - there was no one on it and we weren’t breaking any of the rules on the side. He then told us it’s only for kids ... if you can pretend to claim a kid and you’re one of 15 people on it, it’s okay. However if you’re an adult trying to get on it and there is no one else trying to get on it and you don’t have a child with you, you are told to get off. Again, if you have rules (especially ones that don’t make sense) make them clear to guest! Don’t just blow your whistle and expect us to understand. No worries though, karma got to this strict rule following lifeguard and the floater detached and floated away with 15 people on it shortly after (probably because too many people where on it). People had to jump off of it as it was floating away so that staff could try to control it and hook it back up. The spa was amazing! We had several hotel coupons to use and you can apply up to $40 coupon per treatment. My partner and I both had a Dreams exclusive facial ($129 full price) and a massage (Swedish $129 for me and deep tissue $149 for him). The facial wasn’t special - no steam or extractions, just lots of creams and a hand/arm/leg massage. The massage was to die for though! It was probably the best massage we’ve ever had. We wished that we had done the 80 minute massage instead and not done the facial. The spa has been thoroughly updated and it is recommended that you show up 1 hour before your appointment to do the hydrotherapy. I was quite skeptical, but it was amazing. The staff member told us which treatment to do in which order and for how long (i.e. Scottish shower 1 minute, Sauna 5 minutes, Ice bathe for 1 minute, etc.). It’s written on the board, but it’s great that she helped us along and we felt so relaxed and ready for our massage. I would highly recommend stopping by! We had a wonderful time at Dreams Resort even with the poor weather. Most resort staff members were absolutely amazing. We did tip when we felt we received excellent service, although this was not required nor did we feel pressured to do so ever. There was a particular staff member that did speak to us frequently through our trip that did make us feel uncomfortable. I don’t think he intended to, but was way too much. The only reason I mentioned this is because as I was checking out you have to complete a survey on an iPad. He came by as I was completing the survey and was so close to me that he was touching the iPad. Additionally, he was blatantly reading and watching me enter my responses, which is unprofessional and made me feel uncomfortable. Please do not a staff member at check out time stand around harassing customers as they are completing their surveys!

Young people and Europeans, this one aint for you!

We travelled to Punta Cana (couple, aged 28) in the summer 2017 for a 2 week holiday after hearing great reviews about Domincan Republic. We ended up being quite disappointed and here are some of the reasons why: 1. Strange check in experience: - When we arrived at the hotel (16 hours from when we left Ireland) tired and starving, we were checking in and then told our room wont be ready for an hour. We thought this was quite strange as it was late evening, no queues and clearly there were hundreds of rooms. We were then ushered to Eddie " I am your personal consultant during your stay at Dreams". Oh please no. - Eddie then sat us down for 30 mins, despite our pleas to have this conversation in the morning when we were fed and rested, discussing every deal we have available to us, how he could get us a "special rate" and how we were to come to him for everything we needed. - This was way too much and not surprisingly, when we managed to escape from Eddie, our hotel room was ready...! - When you come into the lobby for breakfast/lunch/dinner; you are met with 20 men HOUNDING you as you try to get past them to eat; trying to sell you something. It is so intense and so unwelcome, you can barely escape them they are so full on. Not good. 2. Did you know, there is a luxury members club? AND if you didn't decide to go for that; you basically don't have access to any of the good alcohol in the bars or in your room, or access to some particular restaurants?? Madness. - There is no wine by the bottle also, which we found bizzare. you only get glasses. 3. Weddings every night: - There are a minimum of THREE weddings per night in this resort in the summer and this means they CLOSE three restaurants per night to all the remaining guests. That meant of the 6 restaurants made available to guests; the rest of the hotel was squashed into the 3 remaining restaurants!! There were some nights that we didnt get to eat until 10.30pm with all the people queueing. We didnt know this when we were booking and we certainly would have not booked had we known. 4. Bars and all late night activity closes at 11pm: - This is very much a family resort. - anyone looking to have a few drinks after your meal better pack them in before 10.30pm and then order a few to take to your room because the place completely shuts down at this time. - There is one late night "bar" which is a tiny, really air conditioned almost hole-in-the-wall that no one ever went to, looked more like a sports bar. - If you want to take a bottle of wine with you to your room; it'll cost you 50$. For pretty bad wine. We paid it, we were desperate. 5. Screaming Waiters: - At some points the service was very good in some restaurants and in others, you could tell that they would rather be anywhere in the world than serving you. - What freaked us out most is that there were 2-3 waiters in particular that would scream "I LOVE MY JOB, I LOVE MY JOB, I LOVE MY JOB", "HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY" "EXCELLENTE!!!!" "HAPPY WIFE HAPPY LIFE' - and I mean screaming it! That it started to become a bit unnerving, it was as if they were going a bit mad and were screaming it like a mantra. Very weird... 6. Food is very Americanised and heavy, very little traditional Dominican food: - The quality of the food in the restaurants was pretty average and really Americanised. - For starters you can expect things like: cream cheese and chips (nachos), lots of fried food. Mains are equally as heavy, as are the deserts. - The french restaurant was pretty good, but men had to wear long trousers in order to be let in - always a catch! In that heat, I couldnt have asked my boyfriend to wear trousers more than once. - Our most favourite food, believe it or not, was served in the World Cafe, then also the Asian place up by reception (always very busy) and the French, trouser wearing place. 7. The TV repeatedly broke in our room and they must have bee extremely understaffed; we had to call 5+ times before anyone came out. 8. Beware of the Dominican weather: - almost all water sports activities were cancelled every day due to "uncertain" weather conditions. What a let down! - You also cant go beyond the hotel grounds, so make sure you are ok with being in the one spot for a long period of time. - 2 weeks was too long in this place! Good things: - Very pretty scenery; the grounds and hotel itself are very nice. - Friendly grounds-keeping staff and cleaning staff. The girls who work at World Cafe entrance and showed you to your table were very friendly too. - Great gym - Great food in the World Cafe (general breakfast, lunch, dinner restaurant. Especially the deserts - Great BBQ service on in the middle of the resort every day. Very tasty, Great little coffee place inside on the bottom floor too. - Coco Bongos is a must see!!! They do trips from the hotel, but you have got to bargain everything down - it's all one massive sale in there. - The airport to hotel and back journey was well organised. - They greet you with a glass of champagne once you check in which I thought was a nice touch. Overall: I would recommend no more than 1 week here and you must be OK with the American way of eating, tipping, drinking etc. to enjoy it.

Absolutely brilliant

We stayed here from 26th oct 2017 for 2wks I was with my husband and 2yr old son. In our party were my parents and my Brother and his family (18mth old and 3yr old) Where to start. First of all it was amazing! The staff were great and the food was fab! The room- we had a normal sized room which had 2 large double beds. We ended up pushing these together for one giant bed so our son could tag in (he won't go in a travel cot). The beds were quite high and we were worried about him falling out. The room when we arrived was clean and spacious although housekeeping didn't seem to ever get to us until very late afternoon by which time our son was napping so most days we didn't get our room cleaned. That is the only negative I have about our entire stay. Food- world cafe for buffet was excellent. Great selection of food and desserts which varied daily. We went to all the other restaurants which had good selections and were delicious although the Asian was our favourite! The Mongolian beef was awesome! Pool- the pool was super! Nice little dropped areas where you could sunbathe on loungers or let the kids jump in. Pool is quite shallow which was fine for us. It was constantly being cleaned of any debris and water tests were done daily. Beach- again lovely. Never had to worry about loungers as there were plenty. Sea was really nice although there was a roped area which was deemed safest part swim and clear of corals under foot. Bars- decent selection of drinks and happy to make milkshakes for the kids. My nephew went to the explorer kids club a few times and loved it! The staff seemed so nice as well and always remembered his name if they saw him round the resort. Evening entertainment- usually a Latin singer in the square and then twice a week or so a rock band who were really good. Then the hotel staff put on various shows such as cowboys, circus, pirates etc all were really good. They did do a fire and lights show while we were there and that was absolutely amazing!! Twice a week on a weds and Sunday they would allow local sellers to come in for a few hrs which was quite nice although some were a bit pushy. We were able to extend our room on the day of checking out which was an extra $10 an hr. we felt was quite reasonable. Overall we had an amazing holiday at dreams and were so pleased we chose this hotel! The staff are all so helpful and love the kids. They couldn't do enough for us. We would 100% recommend the hotel and would definitely go back!
