We stayed for 6 nights and have a wonderful vacation. Just a couple of dings in my ratings. First, not their fault was the beach. It was really good, but due to a recent hurricane there was a lot of seaweed every morning. The maids were good, but a couple of times they tried to clean the room late in the afternoon while we were napping or trying to relax after a long day. They did come back later. The staff was great about 97% of the time. We had some waiters that seemed distracted and acted like we were a bother.

The Day of the Wedding was amazing. The Level of service given by the stay was great throughout the week. The food that was to be cold was warm and the everything was located in a warm to hot environment. My Husband and most of my guest were under the weather. They have stands that sell their products for gifts and they were extremely aggressive with their sales approach.

The hotel was amazing and the staff were very helpful, gracious, and fun! Our only complaint was that the World Cafe was hotter then heck, large fans to circulate the air or a/c would have made us visit that restuarant more and have a better dinning experience.

Food mediocre with limited choices that left 3 out of 4 of us sick. No trampoline in ocean like advertised and ocean was dirty and disgusting. No towels at pool some days and no made service for 2 days. Venders high pressure sales inside resort was extremely annoying and disappointed when the rude comments came out when they were told no thank you. One hotel worker told my daughter she was ugly after she said she didnt want to play the game he was organizing because she didnt feel well. Room was very outdated with white caulking everywhere to hold things together. My daughters bed had blood on it when we checked in. The tvin my kids bedroom did not work at all. WiFi was terrible and cause my husband to have to pay for international phone calls in order to fulfill work obligations. We would never return, never recommend and will spread the word that this advertised 4 diamond resort is more like a one star motel. The power of social media! Next time I will do my own research instead of depending on Apple!! Were conned into attending a high pressure time share presentation because worker told us he would lose his job if we did not attend. Told we would get 2 $100 resort vouchers when in reality we received 1. Sales girl also told us she would lose her job if we didnt buy and asked if we would please lie to her manager for her. Her manager was so mad when we said we did not want to buy, he would not allow her to escort us back to our resort. They stuck the 2 of us in a van with just a driver. We were very upset and uncomfortable with this. Never again will we fall for these lies! Apple, you need to upgrade your standards! There are too many choices these days for you to treat people like this.

The good and the bad!

Here’s my honest review/perspective of our experience. Traveled here Nov 1-8. It’s about 45mins north from the airport in an area called Uvero Alto – Not Punta Cana/Bavaro Beach. It’s very remote, nothing around the area to walk to for those that are looking for shops etc. The grounds are beautiful and immaculately manicured, probably the nicest I’ve seen in all the AIs we’ve been to…including a few Sandals resorts we’ve been to. Service, top notch, everyone is sooo happy and helpful, and smiling, did not see one unhappy staff member the entire week (shout out to Carlos, Guillermo, Humberto, Margarita and Angela in Oceana they are exceptional staff) Food, pretty darn good, you will not starve that’s for sure, so much variety and delicious. Not sure why people say it’s not good, we travel all over the world at least 3-4 times a year and found the food here top notch. We ate at the Seaside Grill twice and had the striploin both times and loved it. Ate also at World Café a couple times, Oceana for breakfast every day and dinner once, and the little hidden Italian place by La Trattoria on the beach (not Portofino..sort of hidden behind pizza place). Barefoot Grill at lunch had a good variety of burgers, La Trattoria best pizza! The red wine is AWFUL and I mean AWFUL even the staff admits it’s terrible, it tastes like they make it in the back shed…I ended up buying wine off the wine list 3x…yes it was pricey, but I don’t drink mixed drinks and have the occasional beer…so a good glass of wine with my dinner was my treat to myself. The snacks and drinks in the Preferred Club Lounge was really worth having the upgrade. After the day at the beach we would head to the outdoor patio of the Club lounge have a cold bevie and a few of the wonderful Appetizers. Beach is nice, not spectacular in my opinion, not at all like Bavaro Beach, for those that have been there, the water is much rougher here and not clear, and there is a bit of seaweed mixed in the water, you feel it around your feet when you go in the water. If you’re looking for crystal clear water, it’s not here, more stirred up due to the rougher water. However, if you walk north to the Breathless property the water is beautiful, clear and calm there. We booked Preferred and we were glad we did, this gave us access to Oceana for breakfast rather than the craziness of the main buffet at the World Cafe. It also gave us access to the Club Lounge where they have amazing snacks all day if you want, and top shelf drinks. We had a private section on the beach, and you could order lunch to be brought to you, however we preferred to get up and walk to get a light lunch. We aren’t pool people, but rather beach people so thoroughly enjoyed our cabana bed on the beach with the preferred service. (shout out to all the girls serving drinks in preferred and Willy) Pool looked beautiful and very large, but very busy around the swim up bar, and the area where they did activities. It looked quieter as you got further up towards the lobby. During the weekend the ‘locals’ did stay, but I honestly didn’t find them obtrusive or ‘taking over’ any more than most of the other guests, as other posts suggest. They traveled in large groups, but didn’t find anyone rude, etc. The kids were rambunctious, but hey it’s a family resort…fully expect that. Rooms…now this is where the resort falls down and this is why I can’t give this review 5 stars…and I know some will disagree. We were in a Standard Ground Floor room/King Bed building 9, just because you are Preferred, you don’t get a honeymoon suite, or what they “call” swim out suites etc., you will need to pay for that upgrade separately. Yes the rooms are extremely worn and tired and the resort should seriously invest into renovations, these are definitely long overdue. Yes the bed was super comfy and had clean linens. The issue we experienced was our toilet did not flush and we had to call them daily as once it flushed that was it, it was blocked. We wondered if someone in the room previously had flushed something down that shouldn’t have been. The other issue is, we had no hot water. Some are probably wondering why we didn’t request a new room. However, when we checked in the concierge called and asked how our room was, I started to explain about the toilet…as we weren’t in our room 10mins and it already didn’t flush. He hung up on me. (that should have been the warning). I thought OK maybe we got cut off, so we walked to Preferred concierge desk in the main lobby explained the toilet and now the hot water issue and he said they would send someone over immediately. No one ever showed up after waiting an hour, and we weren’t wasting our vacation waiting. We called again when we came back from the beach, and now I’m frustrated and said enough, it’s time to switch rooms. Housekeeping was down the hall so I went and spoke to the lovely woman, and within 5 mins someone showed up. They told us to run the shower water for at least 30-45 minutes to get hot water and they plunged the toilet. So all seemed to be fine, so we decided to keep our room, and thought the issue was resolved. Next day same issue, only we ran the water for 45mins still no hot water, then called and someone showed up and magically we got hot water, and again they plunged the toilet. Oddly there is a closet down the hall from the room that they would go to (I’m thinking to turn on the hot water??) Again we decided we would keep our room since our view was amazing and by now we unpacked and I didn’t want to repack, only to move to a room that might have the same issue. I did speak to several people in our building and they either had no hot water as well, or scalding hot and no cold. We even tried coming back to the room from the beach around 4pm and try and shower before the masses, thinking that was the trick, nope, waited till 5pm, nope, didn’t seem to matter what time of day. On our 2nd last day I finally blew a gasket and went to the Spa in tears explaining that I’m tired of a week of cold showers and a toilet we are afraid to flush, was tired of having to keep calling about the same issue over and over again. All I wanted was a hot shower. Well I guess I should have done that on day 2 because magically by the time I returned from the Spa, our toilet got fixed permanently and we had running hot water after that. Did it ruin our vacation, no, but it definitely made us decide we wouldn’t come back to this resort or recommend it. Two key necessities, a working toilet and a shower. On a side note, thankfully neither of us had any tummy issues otherwise the toilet issue would have been disastrous.

Just ok

My wife, 4-month old baby and I have just got back from Dreams after a 7-day trip. Overall, we had a really nice holiday, but there are issues about the hotel that they really do need to address. On the plus side (first), the pool and hotel grounds are simply superb and couldn’t be faulted. The beach is nice, and we did like the preferred club area, although on a hot sunny day the bed / cabanas offer little shade which wasn’t great for the baby. The food was excellent and the choice of restaurants very good, with Oceana for breakfast (only for preferred club guests) and the Japanese place standing out. Aside from the pool bars -.which were good but closed at 6pm - the bars in the hotel are not great (fairly soulless) but we used the preferred club bar near the beach every night which I really liked. (To that extent, I suppose we got our money’s worth for doing the preferred club option). The staff were generally very polite and helpful (although see comment below re bellboy) with room service coming quickly and Margarita did a great job cleaning our room. The main downside to this place is the general standard of the main hotel foyer area and the rooms themselves. The words “tired” and “dated” are frequently used in reviews and rightly so. The first room we were put in (a preferred club deluxe room) was small, dingy, smelt musty / damp, generally looked old, and if that wasn’t bad enough it faced a chain link fence bordering the property. The patio door was rickety and didn’t seem secure (for a ground floor room), cupboard doors wouldn’t close properly, and the bathroom needed a serious refurb. So we complained and they moved us to a deluxe family room on the first floor. To be fair this was better with slightly more room. However, it was still old looking (“tired and dated”), smelt damp, and the furnishings had seen much better days, as had the bathroom. So the next day we moved to a suite (at an extra cost of $300 for 6 nights) which was a much bigger room (and bathroom) with a jacuzzi on the balcony. Was it worth it? Probably, if only for the extra space we had, but the comments above about the old furnishings and general shabby appearance of the room still applied to the suite. I also found (old) blood on one of the bed cushions and bedsheets which wasn’t nice. All that said (and apart from the blood), the room was spacious, clean (and kept clean by Margarita who did a great job) and quite comfortable. As far as other aspects of the hotel are concerned, the general upkeep of the property is fairly poor. The corridors and stairwells near our room were pretty shabby; cracked tiles, poor grouting, poor lighting, and hatch doors kept coming open (onto the corridor) revealing dirty piping and electrics. There are no lifts in the resort, not great if you have to lug a baby and buggy around. The main foyer / lobby area is (as with the rooms) rather dated and needs sprucing up; it certainly didn’t give a great first impression. Finally, yesterday’s check out was a bit shambolic. The previous day, as we had a young baby and needed the room facilities, we paid $50 for a late check out at the preferred club desk (they charge $10 an hour after midday). When we did so, they offered and we arranged for someone to collect our bags (we had three big bags, a buggy and various baby things) at 5pm for a 5.40pm transfer (to be on the safe side). At around 5.05 I called the preferred club desk to ask where the bellboy was, and was told he was on his way. Ten minutes later my wife called again to be told the same thing. When no-one came at around 5.25 I had to do it myself. So, I had to carry three 20kg bags, and a baby / buggy from the room to the foyer (up the stairs, with no lift). This was an unacceptable and disappointing end to the holiday. Either a bellboy service is available or it is not. But if it is and one is told three times that someone would come and no one does; it is simply not on. I spoke to the Assistant Manager before I left who apologised but there really wasn’t much she could do. All the above said, there are a lot of positives about this place, especially of the “all inclusive” variety that people come to a resort like this for - drink, food, nice pool and beach in particular. And I don’t suppose you go to the Dominican Republic to sit in your room a lot, so maybe my comments on the rooms are unfair in that context. But if the rooms are upgraded / spruced up this would be an outstanding resort not just a pretty average one.

Let me begin my review with stating the grounds and atmosphere of this resort are truly breathtaking. After a 35 minute ride from the airport, we were greeted at the entrance with a welcome drink and a cool towel to cool off. Within minutes a young women name Pamela came over and began our check-in process, which despite some reviews I’ve read went very smooth and quickly. The first nice surprise we heard from Pamela was that both of our rooms had been upgraded to honeymoon suites and we were also upgraded to preferred. Within 30 minutes of arriving, we were giving our room keys and were brought to our rooms by another member of the Dreams staff, which was a nice touch, luggage arrived roughly 10 minutes later. The rooms we were given we very nice spacious, with a Jacuzzi on our balcony, bed was also very comfortable, although we don’t spend much time in our rooms, I must say they were very nice. I also need to add that each member of the Dreams staff we encountered throughout our 8 day vacation were all very friendly and would go out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and enjoying our stay. I feel I need to point out a few staff members, first Willy in the preferred beach area, went above and beyond daily and is a true testament to customer service. Although I am not sure I would pay the extra to become preferred, he is definitely a reason to reconsider that decision. Franklin and Robinson whom are part of entertainment staff also need to pointed out, as they keep up a great positive vibe throughout the day, keeping all guest involved in the daily activities. The also help my daughters boyfriend plan his marriage proposal to my daughter while at the resort on a whim. The last 2 individuals I would like to point out would be Margarita always kept our room looking top notch room 8205 and although her name escapes me at this moment, started with a J, she booked my wife, daughter and myself massages at the spa, and also gave us each a 5 minute sample at the beach, which was enough to convince us that a massage was the way to go. Regarding the food/restaurant selections, no complaints here either, most nights we were able to walk right in, others we had small waits. We tried every restaurant in the resort except the Bordeaux, the night we had that selected it happened to be closed for a wedding reception. I personally enjoyed the buffet the most, as I like to sample, which the buffet allows that type of option. The only drawback I have from the resort, which is probably more a personal opinion verses a general is the lack of entertainment options in the evening. I am a non drinker so just hanging our by the bars at night, not exactly my cup of tea. In other resorts we would enjoy going to the nightly shows, however the shows at Dreams are barely watchable. So I found myself typically heading back to my room around 10 nightly. However this would be my only complaint, the nights the vendors invaded the resort actually were the most entertaining, I enjoyed interacting with them, although I must add, they are very aggressive, so if you don’t like this type of aggressiveness in sales, you would best suited to avoid. Some of you may have read about the locals coming in on weekends. To be honest, I was a little worried about this personally, thinking it may be become a chaotic loud resort, when I was here to relaz, on the contrary, just about noticed the difference. They did come in, but were generally very quiet and actually enjoyed playing some volleyball with a group of them on Saturday night, although I was the only English speaking player on the court. Only thing I would like to add is, if you are able to, get up at least 1 morning, head to the beach around 6 am and enjoy the sunrise, I did this 6 of the 7 mornings and enjoyed each and every minute of having the beach primarily to myself. Of my travels to Caribbean resorts, this resort comes in a close 2nd to the Iberostar Tucan, in my opinion, you will not be disappointed in your stay here, unless of course you go in looking for negativity, in which case I am sure you could find some in any place you may travel.

Nightmare! Please do not stay here!

Traveled to this place on November 4th for a 7 day stay with 2 other families, a total party of 11. Every bit of this resort is subpar. The hotel is very dated. The entire lobby of the resort is covered in pink marble, circa 1986. No air condition in any main buildings, no elevator in the entire resort. The rooms are very dated, bathroom is nasty, the shower has no water pressure, the floors in the room are dirty. Furniture must be 30 years old and dirty, small red sofa is ripped and dirty. The 2 Outlets in the room must be 35 years old and barely hold a charge. Air conditioning leaking all over the room floor every other day. Bugs everywhere! Not enough towels in our room - we had 2 adjoining rooms. The food is not good, good luck getting any at any of the restaurants. We went to Himitsu and they said they ran out of food - it was 7:30pm, c’mon. Surf and turf at one of the restaurants consisted of a steak the size of my finger and one shrimp. Saw a roach at the buffet. There is no top shelf liquor here, asked for a mojito and they said they ran out of mint, coming in Wednesday- it was Sunday. Ask for a martini, they ran out of olives. Pool is more like a lazy river and never had any towels. Casino is tiny. 4 tables and 6 slot machines. Also dirty and dated, of course. We left the resort after 2 days of disappointment and headed over to the Hard Rock Resort for the remainder of our 7 day trip, which is a real resort. Do not stay here!
