Visited here with my family two adult and three children aged 22,18 and 13. From the moment we got to the resort to the moment we left everything was just amazing. All the staff will go out of their way to make sure you have everything you need.
There is food available every minute of the day for breakfast there is everything you could ever want; bacon eggs omelettes cereal cheese cold meats everything! And the bread is to die for even sometimes coming out warm! There is a cafe called coco cafe which serves the most delicious coffees and hot chocolates all day and they serve sandwiches, cakes muffins and fruit all day long (the chocolate muffins warmed up are the best) we mostly ate in the world cafe which is the main restaurant in the resort serving everything again you could ever imagine there salad and cold meats to big joints of meat with mash potato, pizzas, pastas made how you want and the fruit is out of this world!! There is also the fruit shack serving everything fruity for during the day if you don't want to go to the restaurant. There is also bbq's in the resort and on the beach cooking burgers and hot dogs throughout the day(these are delightful) There are a range of restaurants throughout the resort which you have the chance to go to we went to the grill restaurant one day which was mostly a steak restaurant and the steak was divine!!
Swimming: we liked the part of the pool nearest to the bar with the swings only because it wasn't as busy as the main bar area. there are sun bed floats for the water everywhere so you can always find one of them to use when in the water. The waitress's around the pool are continuously coming up to you and asking if they can get you drinks so you don't even have to get off your sunbed! I would highly recommend the cocktail flamingo!
Rooms: we had a room with a king size bed and an interconnecting room with two double beds in block 3. There are a lot of people on here who say the hotel rooms are dated however we did not find this at all. The beds were extremely comfy and cleaned and made every day. (who goes on holiday to spend time in their hotel room anyway)
Entertainment: there is something for everyone all day and all night in the resort. There are circus shows, magic shows and dance shows all of which very high quality!
We done two trips while we were here a fishing trip and a trip on a speedboat and then to a small pool where you could snorkel with the fish. These were well worth the money we paid!!
We have never wished to return to a resort before and we have been on many holidays however we will definitely book to come back to dreams Punta Cana it is the most amazing place and the staff are fantastic! Highly recommended!!! All the people that write bad reviews on here must just do so because they like to have something to moan about!!!!
See you again soon Dreams Punta Cana and Thankyou!!!!!
Weak drinks, one kind of beer. Average food, excellent service. terrible beach with lots of rocks and debris in the water, brown sand, but plenty of comfortable shaded loungers. Nice landscaping. The pool is shallow and very warm, but clean. Rooms and beds are very comfy. The spa is very nice.
Recently back from a 2 week stay with the family. The hotel is lovely, beautiful beach and well kept gardens, clean communal areas, good choice of food in all the restaurants and such friendly staff throughout. Excellent lunchtime burgers at the beach bar too! A wide choice of bars to choose from although sadly for me the White wine was not of a very good standard however the Prosecco made up for it! Entertainments team work very hard and there is never any pressure to join in if that's your preference. We were in Building 4 and the rooms are good, decent air conditioning, very comfy beds and maid service very efficient. Two negatives for us were firstly, on arrival at the hotel after a 9 hour flight and an hour in the cab, we were not offered a drink of any sort nor a refreshing cold towel (something that many Trip Adviser reviewers had mentioned they had received). Instead the Receptionist checking us in was rude and spoke AT US at 90 mph whereby we couldn't understand a word she was saying. Secondly, the key card situation to the room. Lots of guests had problems with these and you had to keep going back to Reception when the cards didn't work. Depending on which building you're staying in, it's a trek in the heat and doubly annoying when they replace your card (Reception having accused you of getting the card wet or putting it next to your mobile which we hadn't), getting back to the room, it still doesn't work and then having to go back to Reception. Didn't work the 2nd time either and at this stage, really not happy. They said they would send a Maintenance guy straight away. I waited outside the room for nearly half an hour waiting for him. This exact same saga happened during the holiday to my husband and also to our Son and his Girlfriend. For a hotel of this calibre and the amount of money we paid for the holiday, this key card situation needs to be resolved. We all had a lovely holiday but I wouldn't return to this hotel and probably not to the DR.
The ONLY reason I'm not going 5 stars is - there should be a breakfast by the beach and air-conditioning needs improvement in casino and a couple of other areas. I'm writing a detailed review of this resort and my overall trip:
DINING: I must say EXCELLENT - staff are very friendly and surely go overboard to serve. Buffet (world cafe) breakfast: eggs made to your order, juice made with blend of fresh fruits you pick.., crepes, and many many more. You surely have a lot of healthy choices and if you wanna indulge -- you find plenty of ways.. - too many desserts for lunch, a salad bar, bbq, Italian, sandwich bar, ice-creams, etc
Every staff member at buffet excels in service and a warm smile - I remember two names.. Evelyn was a good sport and Christi for her fruit carving, care and service.
I have visited all other restaurants during my stay, Bordeaux is upscale and Lidia the hostess is a ball of energy. Food and service were GREAT. Oceana and Seaside Grill also have great food. The Italian restaurant was good too and tried Himitsu - a Hibachi style japanese/chinese place with some live cooking stations. The fish there was excellent.
There is a pizzeria and a bbq place by the beach for lunch and dinner. All the bars and their service was excellent - I was surprised at the number of non-alcohol flavors they could make.. too GOOD.
ROOM: It was good. I was using the room only to sleep n shower... As some reviews suggest, some rooms may seem dated... but, given the water and other stuff - I wonder how long they can keep them as new? Service was excellent. They replenished the mini-bar.. kept it CLEAN - not just the rooms - the entire resort was kept very clean. My friends warned me about mosquitoes(zika) in DR before I made the trip - but, the way they maintained Dreams - I never saw any.. Kudos to the team.
Their laundry prices are high as any other hotel. I could dry my swim trunks and Tees in Balcony - I think when humidity is high, clothes do not dry fast... yes do NOT... dry FAST.. but they will..
ACTIVITIES: It was my first time trying to sail (hobie cat or catamaran), OMG did I LOVE IT... it was simply wonderful experience. This is handled by "Seapro divers" folks. They also do excursions. Mr.Guadalupe is a nice and a very helpful gentleman. Jose and other trainers are very friendly too. Tried Kayak, Sailing Catamran, Snorkeling... enjoyed a lot. Though you don't see much in snorkeling at the resort, for a guy like me who's trying it for first time - it was a great introduction and practice. I was there in August - beach chairs and floating mats were available. The entertainment team is just tireless.. they have a LOT of activities for EVERYONE. I've tried beach volleyball, water aerobics, archery, kayak in the pool among others. Their nightly entertainment is wonderful - I was impressed by the "circus" show they had. I have tried Scuba diving lesson - loved it. The instructor however is a J@CK @SS... interested in hard-selling tours. He's also part of seapro divers. I booked an excursion, went to the lobby, realized I forgot my ticket, (My Bad).. But, I informed this to scuba guy - told him I will pace back, left my bag there, and ran to the room and back.....sweating.... He's nowhere to be seen. I asked concierge to call Guadalupe - he tried to get me onboard but it was late by then. Guadalupe was very apologetic and offered another trip or return the money.
Shopping Tour: There is a small plaza (5min bicycle ride) near the resort. Dreams offers a free bicycle tour to the plaza. You can buy any souvenirs, SIM cards, there is a phone shop - you can buy chargers, covers, etc. A car and motorbike rental place, a convenience store, etc. I had to get a sim card and concierge and everyone informed that I can't get it at the nearby plaza and that I need to go to Bavaro ($100/- USD by taxi.... ).
Carrying Forex Pesos: I did not find it useful. Everyone quotes prices in USD, and if you want in Pesos, they will try to skim a better exchange rate from you. Like while 1 USD is around 44, for a $100USD excursion, it should be 4400 pesos, but, they apply a rate of 46 and collect 4600 pesos. So, not very useful. You may use to place lower bets in a casino.. some tips.. and if you want to shop at a standard super market in Punta Cana with fixed prices... etc.. (but I guess, I can use my credit card for that rather than carrying foreign exchange)...
LOCATION: This location is Uvero Alto - which is a further away from airport than Bavaro. But, once you get into the resort - I doesn't matter much. Unless you want to travel frequently into Bavaro, etc.. but, you don't need to do that while at an all inclusive resort. I booked a round-trip using expedia... no issues.
CASINO: Small with some table games and roulette. Staff are very friendly. Air-Conditioning needs to be improved.
EXCURSIONS: There are multiple agencies right outside the buffet (world cafe) area. A couple of stations by the AMR resorts folks themselves, then sol-cana tours, expedia and others. By the beach (where you collect beach towels), there is Seapro guys. They seem to have better prices on similar excursions - but, I'm not sure how their tour experience compares to the others.
COMPARED to Other Resorts:
Breathless - had dinner there - OMG - It is UPSCALE by every measure and the food and drinks are simply outstanding. It's an adults only resort though... no kids. I'm very very impressed. It's in Uvero Alto - it's near Dreams..
Now Larimar - It's a HUGE resort in Bavaro area. The sand seemed a bit whiter than at Uvero Alto.. but, it's huge resort with a lot of stuff a bigger beach - but then again, a lot of rooms and a lot of guests. The food was comparable... service was good. Had a bit of wait at restaurants, etc. Ruth at Conceirge was AMAZING in hospitality and a bundle of information. She's a GREAT HELP.
We got back from here today..
What a place..beautiful..amazing..fantastic..
The staff are so polite and nothing is to much trouble, the food most the time was amazing..our room what airy and cool and great shelter from the heat..
We didn't have to leave the complex at all..everything we needed was right there..
The staff are so happy and cheerful all day everyday..the beach is simply beautiful..the drinks are very generous
Not so good points..
Our safe in the room didn't work, we reported it yet nothing happened and money went missing from our room..we did report that and the security started an investigation leaving us feeling like criminals as they routed thru all our belongings..and we never heard anything back on the matter..
On some evening little stalls are set up to sell souvenirs..one or 2 of the men running the stalls where quite rude and pushy..they need to learn no means no..bare in mind these people are not hotel staff..
Above all..this was an amazing holiday and I can't wait to go back as soon as I can with my kids as they wud love it..xx
