We were there last year and the food quality was allot better. The Bar/Pool Service was HORRID. We waited times for over an hr. to get our cocktails (from the beach servers). It was easier just to get our drinks ourselves. The maid service was AMAZING. Our maid, Victoria was outstanding. Salvador (the bartender) at the bar (by the preferred tower) was awesome. Always had our drinks ready when he saw us. Hot tub was filthy, bar pool was dirty and in need of a good over haul. One night at Oceana for dinner, we were seated immediately, but when the waiter came to take our order (for cocktails), he told us the kitchen was so backed up that we needed to order IMMEDIATELY. Not our idea of a relaxing dinner. We were so rushed, we didn't get a chance to enjoy our dinner. Did not like the idea that the hostess at the buffet would come running after you if you did not check in with her first upon arrival for breakfast. Last year, we were able to sit anywhere and go up and get our food. This year.... NO WAY. We had to go to the hostess stand, wait in line and give our room number, then she would bring us to our seats. Even if no one was eating breakfast, we still had to follow those rules. We have been there twice now and we have had our fill. The beach is amazing and the rooms are outstanding. The service is hit or miss. Did they ever think to hire more staff?

I watch for the specials at Dreams PV. The food is fantastic, the beach outstanding and it is close to town. I watch for your direct, charter flights. I do not like to make connecting flights in Mexico. I'm not fond of connections in the US either because of weather. Please continue to offer charte .. More>

Everything was nice. Great service and ok food. The drinks were good my wife and I enjoyed the entertainments. We stayed for 5 night but unfortunetly after the 3rd night we got stomach flues. Everything was nice. Great service and ok food. The drinks were good my wife and I enjoyed the entertainments. We stayed for 5 night but unfortunetly after the 3rd night we got stomach flues. We went into town that morning feeling really sick didn't couldn't eat anything we had to come back to the resort right away. We spent the rest of the day in the room. That put a damper on our vacation, but before that we were having a nice time. The staff is great and try to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Side note we had to pay 7 dollars for a small bottle of pepto I thought that was to expensive.

Pros: #1 Was definitely the scenery with the resort set in-between the mountains, absolutely gorgeous #2 The food was much better at Dreams vs Excellence Resort in Punta Cana. #3 Free 24hr room service The resort had a private beach (which I guess most resorts do not in Puerto Vallarta) Less pushy ppl trying to sell us stuff I like the activities (I was able to make a bracelet, paint a ceramic turtle, played a pool game and got 2nd place) Free 1hr Boogie Board rentals which was a blast Saw a whale from the restaurant Saw 3 manta rays riding the waves when we were playing in the ocean Slightly smaller resort which made it easier to walk places (The Excellence rooms were so far from everything it felt liked you walked forever) Very close to downtown with cobblestone streets Airport seemed brand new and was definitely more organized than Punta Cana Rhythms of the Night was amazing, well worth it, although the boat ride was packed and really long there and back (about an hour each way) Cons: No internet (they would charge you $70 to use it) Poor night time entertainment (Excellence had awesome night shows compared to the Dreams) Check-in was kinda rough…they try to get you to buy some resort package for the next 30yrs for $22,000 Some wait time to get into restaurants (most were about 6min, one restaurant was 45min) Bathrooms near beach could definitely use updating No free horseback riding like at Excellence Resort Sometimes it was sightly cool at night time Sun Country planes were really old

My wife and I returned to DREAMS, maybe our 5th or 6th time, spending 12 nights in April on an APPLE VACATIONS package from Chicago, IL. We had a rough 2012 health-wise, including a recent broken ankle and decided to go again kind of at the last moment. We spent out 26th wedding anninversary this time and our 25th their last year. We were hoping to get upgraded to the Preferred Tower but the hotel was full and we settled nicely into a balcony room in the Dreams Tower. No complaints. We appreciated the redecorated room with the orange accent wall and the white furniture refinished to woodgrain. We loved the restaurants. Our best liked was El Patio and least liked was Oceana. At one time we thought El Patio was our least favorite and it has improved considerably. Oceana is too hard to get to especially for a person walking after a broken ankle. Too many stairs to climb and the boarded sidewalk is rickety and unstable in spots as well as too dark in the evenings. The World Cafe is the place for breakfast. I especially asppreciated the smoked salmon (lox) on a bagel with cream cheese, tomato, onion and capers. 1st Class. World Cafe lunches varied from great to just O.K. depending on the entrees that day. I think cheesburgers and hot dogs should be made available for lunch for people who don't want to make those far walks to Seaside Grill or to the Barefoot Grill by the Dreams Tower. We are palapa people and sit on the beach all day. There is only one ramp down to the beach opposite the World Cafe and we were always lucky to find a palapa near the ramp. As seniors we required straight-back chairs as it is difficuklt for us to get out of the low chaises. Luckily we found HECTOR, the beach attendant who made sure we had straight-back chairs everyday. We discovered our beach waiter disappeared several afternoons to attend to wedding party setups leaving us without beverage service under the palapa. Very disappointing. We found the resort's lack of free and accessible WIFI and Internet a real PAIN. The wife purchased a temporary APP from APPLE VACATIONS via the telephone before we left home only to find out DREAMS PVR was not on the list of APPLE/AMRESORT properties participating, yet the "live" person she talked to and ordered it from failed to tell her this. We're hoping to get a refund. Will we return? God willing and the creeks don't rise, we'll be back. Hopefully Dreams will install more ramps to bypass the stairs where possible to accomodate us seniors. Cudos to Chief Concierge Gregorio Robles, truly a fine gentlemen and again we extend our sympathies upon the passing of his father during the time we were there. L

My daughter and I recently returned from a week at Dreams Puerto Vallarta. In comparing it with Dreams Cancun and the Rui Palace in Cabo, we were quite disappointed in this property especially after we booked because of the wonderful reviews it has received on Tripadvisor. We are thinking the main reason is because we were traveling as two women without a male in our group. Our service was extremely poor from dining where first courses that were ordered were served after the entrée and then only by requesting them to bar waiters that would walk by us and serve those next to us pool side even after we had tipped them to only one bed being turned down nightly even those both were slept in. (Again keep in mind that although we had booked with gratuities included, we were still tipping everywhere we went and for our maid service) We were expecting the friendliness that we had experienced at the previous AI's we had stayed at but everyone on property including guests walked around disgruntled looking (unless they were hanging out by the swim up pool bar ;-)

Dreams was more than we expected. The service was excellent from front desk to room service to housekeeping. The food was fabulous in all the restaurants, even the buffet. The fact that you dont need to make reservations at any of the restaurants was great. The only suggestion I have is, if you are going to have a "dress code" it should apply to everyone or not apply at all. We were turned away from the buffet because I had shorts on, yet two young girls were seated shortly after I went to my room and changed who were both in short shorts and tiny tank tops. Also when we checked in we were told that Suzie would show us around but all she actually did was try to sell us a timeshare. Otherwise it was an amazing vacation and we have already booked again only this time in the preferred tower. The beach is fantastic, the Barefoot Grill makes awesome chicken tacos and the vendors are very nice, not pushy at all.

This article is an update to my already existing, IN-DEPTH review from a while back which you might want to take a look at! We have been coming to this resort almost every year for many years and not much has changed since my last review. The resort is still as nice as always and things are maintained quite well! Very clean everywhere! Food: As top-notch as always! No matter which restaurant you eat at. Staff: Extremely friendly as always and always eager to please. Room decor: By now all the rooms have been re-decorated and look nice. Landscaping: As beautiful, lush and tropical as ever! One can still choose between the regular tower and the club tower, which is slightly more upscale. This is still mainly a family resort and also popular for weddings ( which can be a good thing for the wedding parties but sometimes not so good for everyone else...) The adult-only infinity pool, which is very pretty, is unfortunately very small with only 18 ( very comfortable! ) lounges and not enough umbrellas for all the people who prefer shade... The main pool area features very comfortable lounges as well but it gets extremely hot on the vast concrete pad / deck, can be very crowded and one has to put up with constant loud music all day long. Also, not every set of lounges comes with an umbrella... There is one more pool, somewhat secluded, close to the regular tower. There, one will find decent lounges, a lot of space to move around but NO umbrellas at all! Years ago, the huge tree provided a lot of shade but lately, this tree has not been too healthy anymore but the management still refuses to provide umbrellas there. ( We have asked many times... ) Plenty of shade to be found under the many palapas along the beautiful beach ( but rough waters! ), but the lounges there are VERY uncomfortable if one intends to spend more than 2 hours on them! People with back or neck issues beware! These are some of the worst lounges around ( and we travel a lot! )! Please read the entire chair/lounge story in my previous review of this resort!!!) One rather annoying side-effect of all-inclusive resorts ( note: this resort was only converted into an all-inclusive a few years ago!! ) is that certain types of people have a shameless need to take advantage of all the free alcohol, and as a result end up behaving as if they were the only guests around, to put it mildly! They are loud and sometimes even rowdy and love to make a spectacle of themselves, whether on the beach, at the pools or in the hotel bar. Many times it is entire wedding parties who take over a whole row of chairs and then just let loose. On this trip we had a group of people in the adult pool from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm drinking non-stop ( I kid you not!!! )! The noise was unbelievable. When they finally left, one person vomited all the way to the bathroom! During last years stay, a couple got so drunk in the adult-pool that staff had to be called and they had to be lifted out of the pool and literally carried to their rooms! This kind of behaviour is extremely disrespectful towards fellow guests and also the staff, who are taxed to the max in situations like these!!! Everyone is entitled to have fun but not at the expense of others! Please be considerate in these matters! One more thing: Please clean up after yourself! Remove used towels from chairs so that other people know that they are available. This prevents a lot of misunderstandings. Do not litter along the beach! Cigarette buds, bottle caps, straws etc. endanger the wildlife and create extra work for the staff!! And last but not least: Do tip the waiters if you are happy with their service ( especially if you order one drink after another like it is the case so many times...)!! Despite all the negatives, this is still a beautiful resort mainly because of its location. Surrounded by jungle forests, cliffs ( the beach is private! ) and lush greenery and flowers! It is an old resort but maintained quite well ( aside from the lack of umbrellas and the terrible beach lounges...) and friendly. The "kid's club" program is fantastic and as I mentioned earlier, the food is too! We really enjoyed it here for many years but now I think we are ready for something a bit quieter. The wedding crowds and party crowds don't really appeal to us and our children are grown up now. We will most likely visit again some day ( for nostalgic reasons, since our daughter practically grew up in this resort ) but in the near future we will explore some non-inclusive resorts and will stop travelling during peak-times, which turns EVERY place into a super noisy / busy place, I am sure. Note: If you do get tired of the all-inclusive food and feel like eating in town, these are our absolute favorite restaurants in PV: " Pipi's " : A great, fun family restaurant! Fantastic Mexican food, giant portions and fantastic Margarita's! Not expensive. " Si Senor ": Traditional Mexican food in a magical, terraced garden setting. Love the food and the Margaritas ( served with the Tequila on the side ). Very romantic! Moderately priced. " La Palapa " : Beautiful restaurant on the beach! Nice for watching the sunset and romantic! Moderately priced. " Trio " : Mediterranean food cooked with love. European garden restaurant with a colonial touch. Moderately priced. " River Cafe " : Romantic, open-air, upscale restaurant on the river " Cuale ". Fantastic food and atmosphere! Beautiful restaurant in a beautiful location! Come here if you are celebrating something special!! Moderately expensive. " Cafe des Artistes " : Elegant restaurant in a magical, terraced garden setting! Very romantic, the ultimate! Beautiful place, has won many awards! Gourmet food. Expensive but worth it, especially for a special occasion!! Shopping Tips: Silver Jewelry : Go directly to " Evolucion " Silver! ( Morelos 265 ). Don't bother with any other place. Ask for Julie, the owner, and say a friend sent you. This place is fair in their pricing and you won't be taken for a ride! The selection of pieces is incredible and there is something to be found for every one. All real silver! Bargain a little... Creative Jewelry: Check out this tiny shop right beside Pipi's restaurant ( Pipila 245 centro )! Sigi Contreras is a very talented young artist who makes the most beautiful and unique jewelry! He uses different materials for his creations and the prices are NOT over the top! Hand-Blown Glass: Go to " Mundo De Cristal " ( Insurgentes No. 333 ) for reasonably priced vases, glasses, bowls, art etc. The selection and the beauty of the pieces will blow you away! Ask for Rosa, the owner. Everything can be packed as carry-on! Tequila and other spirits: The BEST prices in town! Forget duty-free at the airport! Staff not particularly friendly but who cares... ( Pipila 139, Col. Centro ). Happy Eating and Shopping...!

We enjoyed breakfast at Oceana. The lunch buffet at World Cafe included all you could ever want, and the sunset from Seaside Cafe, along with the food, was fantastic. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The beach was intimate because rocks and both sides made it inaccessible to those not staying at the resort. The beach was also very clean, and beach chairs were always available at no extra cost. It was a five minute inexpensive taxi ride into the old city and boardwalk. I would definitely stay there again.
