Amazing vacation

My husband and I went to Couples Negril to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. We arrived on November 18 and stayed for 7 days. It was a perfect vacation. Couples exceeded our expectations in every aspect. The food was outstanding. The service was excellent. The drinks and beach were awesome. We stayed in a beachfront room (not a suite). The room was comfortable and had everything we needed. The building where our room was located is very close to the main dining area where the buffets were as well as the live entertainment. When we go back we will probably choose a different building to stay in because it was quite loud at night. The entertainment did end at 10:00 pm so it wasn't like it went on late into the night, but after a day at the beach and drinking, we usually ended up in our room fairly early. If you are looking for a getaway with your significant other, this is the place you should go. You can do as much or as little as you want. They don't bother you to participate in activities, but they have activities if you are into that kind of thing. We went snorkeling and kayaking, but the rest of the time we just relaxed on the beach and at the pool. The staff are beyond friendly and helpful and will do whatever is necessary to make your stay awesome.

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon, it was wonderful. We couldn't of picked a better place for the occasion. With all the included activities, I didn't feel like I was being ripped off. The food for every meal is delicious with a wide variety. You can eat at the different restaurants. The pool bar was our favorite bar. The drink menu has a ton of options, not one that I didn't like. All of the employees were kind and helpful. One of my favorite parts of our entire trip was the bonfire with live music on Monday night. It was relaxing and entertaining. Like I said, we couldn't of chose a better place.

This is our third year for Couples Negril and still like it better than our other trips to Sandals Negril. However, the resort had it's ups and downs. Trip from the Airport - This year we wanted to do things different and do a private transfer, We hired Joe Cools Taxi, Great service and great ride. I will say we never have had a problem with couples provided transportation. Very professional as well Arrival - Not sure if they got mixed up or not, they were not ready for us and it just threw off a number of items from not a stocked bar as promised in the pre-check to no water bottles in the room and no continental breakfast orders in room as well. Room - Room was nice, and always cleaned well, our maid did a fantastic job. We booked an Ocean Front room which actually has a partial view better than ocean view. For us we were with friends and never in the room other than to sleep so the tropical view would have been our better buy. Not couples fault at all. Beach and Pool - IF you are a beach person this is a great beach. Not it is not 7 mile beach and I think it is better. However, they have red flag bar services (plant a red flag in the ground) and they bring you your drink. Sometimes a bit slow . Food - Here is where I think after now being there 3 times the food is the same all three years. Breakfast is about the same each day, Kind of feel like the movie groundhog day. We had great service at the Asian restaurant, and the main restaurant. However at the beach front restaurant I have to agree with a couple of other reviewers that the staff was not happy, not very willing to do but the minimum and some were unfortunately rude. Great place for a lunch or snack but have to just get past the staff. Veggie bar was great. Bars - All good and top shelf if you ask. Again depending on the bartender it was great or not so great. Check out the local talent at 8:00 in the piano bar if Donavon is playing see the show it is worth it The Entertainment crew works hard to keep the guests happy and John in the watersports is a rock star! he is always very helpful. Lastly, if my wife and I would have went alone and not met up with our friends I am not sure I would go back. Not that there was anything horribly wrong but there are so many different groups that meet up once a year during the week we go I might feel a bit out of place. For us as we reflected on this last trip, it was more about being with our friends than the resort. Couples is a good choice, however after visiting 3 years it may be time for a chance.

Last year we stayed at Couples Sans Souci in Ocho Rios and had a stunning time. Based on that we decided to stay with the Couples Chain and also go back to Jamaica for the 3rd time in a year. Airport: No hassles with getting through customs. Bags were already off the conveyor and lined up for us and as with our last time at Couples we were greeted in the Couples Resorts Lounge which provided us with some Red Stripe on Tap. Our luggage was handled by Red Caps, without asking, which put some people off as they would have handled it themselves and saved the tip - but no big deal. Travel to Resort: A trip to Negril, like Ocho Rios, lands you at the Montego Bay (Mobay) airport. It is about an hour and a half trip to the resort in a small van/bus that seats about 10 people comfortably with luggage piled in the back. This is the most common type of vehicle used for the resorts although their were some large buses for other resorts. No washroom on the trip so don't drink too much Red Stripe in the airport lounge! Unfortunately we arrived on a Friday and left the airport airport around 2:30-3pm so with the added traffic of a Friday "rush hour" it took 2 hours to get to the resort. Check-In - Was a breeze. Credit Card for Incidentals, and anything you buy from the hotel during your stay is charged to your room. We were quickly checked in, given a drink, escorted to our room, and our luggage followed shortly. No silly wristbands on check-in, like I'm a captured animal! I'll write this part here - we were looking forward to the same kind of tour of the property we had at Sans Souci which is always the day after you arrive and they want to tell you your airport pick up time etc but it was a lot of fun last time - and had nothing to do with Time Shares like in Mexico and selling tours, it really was just to know about the property. Unfortunately the guide never showed up, and we were told someone else would come, but we, and the others waiting with us, got tired of waiting and went for lunch. Not a big deal, we have legs and can explore ourselves. Tipping: When checking in you are advised that tipping is not required or expected - it is part of what you paid for to come to a Couples Resort. This was the same at the other Couples Resort we stayed at. We still tipped the odd person but I never did see anyone tip at a meal, or a bartender etc. If it was done, it was done very discreetly Room: While advertised as an Oceanview Room it was immediately apparent that the building we were in (7) faced a lovely garden and pond, and towards the ocean, but to see the ocean we had to stand on the far right side of our ground floor patio. And even then, you were looking through trees and buildings for a narrow view of Blue Water. There are a few rooms that have much better views in other buildings so I would pay attention to the different classes of rooms when booking if that is a concern. Next time I will pay more attention to Oceanfront vs. Oceanview. Kind of my fault, not theirs I guess. The room itself was very clean, Kingsize bed in great shape and comfortable. It was a little less than we were expecting based on the room we had at Sans Souci. This was pretty much just a standard hotel layout. Glass shower, single sink. The "window" is the bathroom is really just California Shutters over a window opening above the shower so no matter what you are doing in the bathroom don't make too much noise as that window is on the path to all the other units front doors. Flatscreen TV with lots of options, bar fridge is stocked with some beer and pop but every night you can leave a card on your door with liquor/non-liquor options and they bring it to your room the next day. We wanted rum and vodka, full bottle of both, with mix. Didn't even use the air conditioner but did turn it on, nice and quiet, remote control worked well. We used the nice fan (I'm a big guy) and it was still really nice and comfy in there. You can also get coffee, juice, croissants etc for breakfast in your room, also by leaving a card on your door before bed. Restaurants: There is only one a la carte restaurant that requires reservations (and therefore automatically long pants, no flip flops, collared shirts etc. This is booked throughout the day at the Guest Services desk next to check in. You can reserve a meal there 2 days from the day of you attending to book it. This is an enclosed restaurant that had a pleasant ambience. We went once to it, and it was very nice. Rack of Lamb, Sirloin Steak, Seafood Chowder - I will say food is great with lots of options and good portions. I can't see anyone not liking this restaurant or the food/service. There are two other Restaurants other than the main buffet. The one by the beach has very similar food to the last one I described but it is open air right off the beach. We just walked up and were seated without a problem. Again, top shelf food and service. The last restaurant, other than the buffet, is again a enclosed restaurant tucked in between the last two. Japanese themed it had lots of room and although it's a Jamaican take on Japanese it too was fine. The buffet serves breakfast and lunch as a full buffet. It is an open air room from all sides and we always tried to sit on the edge by the pool with a view to the ocean. You will not be disappointed with the food selection.. Omelette /Waffle Station for breakfast. Bar serves fresh made smoothies, vodka, and champagne for breakfast. Lunch has a carving station with things like roast pork and chicken. At dinner the buffet is half and half. You order your appetizer and main course off a menu but go to the buffet for salad and dessert bar. We went there our first night (Friday) and it was lobster night all over the resort. Small lobster tail, wife had steak and scallops. Bars: One next to the buffet, one at the pool (also swim up), and one in the restaurant by the beach - oh, and the piano bar at night upstairs - maybe more, I didn't look to hard. Red stripe on tap. Premium Liquors - I am Canadian so I loved my CC or Crown Royal, and JD and Coke. You can buy wines on your room tab other than the house wines but they were just fine, both red and white! Beach: Hands down nice! Ridiculously clean white sand, water was stunning blue with nothing but white sand on the bottom. A notch above Ocho Rios and definitely above Montego Bay. Lots of loungers available whenever you went, with cushions that double as floats in the water. Just walk up to the towel station (white towels) and take as many as you want, when you want - no silly cards etc. Waiters will walk over and give you a red flag, stick it in the sand beside you when you want a drink - never takes long. Beach was quiet with lots of reading and tanning going on. Beach Volleyball at 11am each day and a few vendors approved by the hotel and some activities at the other end of the beach from where we spent most of our time. A few locals, maybe in total I saw the same 5, stroll the beach trying to sell cigarettes/rolling papers/stuff that go into rolling papers, and tubing rides, and play music but they will not ever approach you and if you start talking to them a security guard will immediately stand a few feet away. They were harmless though and stay just above the edge of the water. There is a nude section that is covered up well with foliage on the beach, but, there is a rope line in the water that separates it from the main beach, so, if older nude people bother you, sit at the other end of the main beach. Pool: Spent very little time there but it was little more lively than the beach. Swim up bar, fast service, lots of loungers, bartenders play games like Trivia during the day. Just chilled place to be. The only thing we ventured out on, as we wanted to completely veg on the beach, was the sunset catamaran. It was about 3 hours, lots of booze, about 80 people,, saw a few dolphins and spent a half hour parked in front of some caves that we swam to and did a little exploring. Young local kids climb the rock face and jump and dive and flip into the water from about 30 - 40 feet and then swim to you asking for money. You have to book this at Guest Services but we had a good time and talked to lots of people. The staff of the boat were great. Obviously there is also snorkeling, SCUBA, kayaks, and other water sports to do, and many seemed to take advantage of it. Would I go again - No, but not for any other reason than we liked certain small things at Couples Sans Souci better and our once a year away from the kids trip down south deserves what we feel is the best for us. It is a great resort, with great staff, food, and entertainment - which I skipped in the review the Piano Bar, the shows, the live music during breakfast and dinner buffet etc - but all in all, relaxing, enjoyable, good food and drink. There were many people there that had been going for years - as with most resorts I guess. They had a Couples Repeat Customer cocktail hour on Monday night in the Beach Restaurant and it was closed to others. I did hear a few people say it was a little more dated - but, so is the car when you drive it off the lot - I never saw anything broken or lacking. Last thing - this resort is elegant - not a party place. Couples may have travelled in groups or made friends there, but for the most part it was just Couples! Relax, relax, relax - that's what we wanted - that's what we got! Nice job overall Couples Resorts!
