Great trip!

We usually stay at the Riu Palace but found a great deal and gave Couples Negril a try! Glad that we did. We enjoyed the change in scenery and food. Everything is clean and well maintained. The grounds are beautiful and the grounds people were constantly working. Our room was nice, although, the "open" blinds concept in the bathroom facing the walkway made me feel like I didn't have much privacy. While, they are very "high"...sounds still travel through them easily (as proven by all the various noises from other guest rooms walking to and from the amenities). I really wasn't a fan of the "sit down and order off the menu" style dining at dinner time. I just think that process should be for the specialty restaurants and the buffet should be, well...a buffet. I would recommend this resort, however, as there are many more appealing features that bad ones. More>

No complaints at all. Beautiful resort, great food and best spa ever. The beach is public so you will occasionally be approached by locals selling merchandise ...so if that bothers you Negril is not for you. More>

We have been to this resort 3-4 times. Our last visit was back in 2011 and I was anxious to see if it had changed. To my surprise, the resort is even better. They have replaced some furniture, renovated all the rooms, this place is simply great. Here is a recap: Airport: We got to the lounge without problem. Fast check-in at the counter. Time for a cold beer and we were transferred to our bus. Smooth drive to the resort. Check-in: We were the last one to get our rooms but it didn't matter. We waited with a cold beer and chatted with staff. At 5:00pm we got the keys to our room in building 2. Room: Clean, fresh flowers, beautiful view on the pound. The service in the room was amazing. Always towels, beverages was replenished each night, turn down service. Great job! Restaurants: I can't pick one because they are all AMAZING. The fact that you don't have to reserve is great. You go whenever you want, wherever you want...this is REAL vacation. The buffet was excellent and the Asian lunch buffet was beyond expectation... The quality, freshness and presentation of the food in all restaurants is exceptional. We had jerk chicken almost every day (or late at night) because I just couldn't resist. Nice Ice cream machine. Pop corn in the casino/pool table area. Great snacks all day long. Beach: This is probably my 15-20th time to Jamaica and this is my favorite spot in the entire world. Crystal clear blue water. No seaweed. The beach is calm (for now... we'll see once the next door family hotel of +700 rooms opens) and you can walk on the beach for a while. The beach vendors are well set-up (market) on the beach. Plenty of chairs available and we didn't have to get up at 6:00 to get one in the shade...again... No stress!.... Activities: Catamaran cruise was again a hit! These guys are crazy, fun and always make sure that you have a great time! We were also scheduled to go to push cart but it was closed so we ended up at rockhouse, which was a beautiful surprise. Nice sunset by the cliffs. Service: a BIG thank you to the amazing staff of CN. Camille is great and knows every single drinks. I love the fact that the Management allows their employees to chat with their customers. This is how we learn more about the Jamaican culture. Shows: I am a huge reggae music fan so I wish there was more local live band. The other shows were great (magician, circus) but I prefer local music. Piano bar was great and we had a few late nights because we had a great time and meet great people. Overall, I work in the travel industry and as mentioned before, I see a lot of hotels. This one has something particular that makes you want to return and makes you feel like home. Thanks Couples Negril! More>

After arriving at the airport and being escorted through the Club Mombay area, we arrived at the Couples lounge with a Red Stripe. Then we have a salesman that wants to offer us a plan ride to the resort for $150pp one way so we can avoid the long bus ride. Then we have to follow some guys out to the bus to put our luggage in and are greeted by them putting their hands out for a tip. My husband and I have two small carry-on and I gave the guy two dollars. He got mad at me for it, “what is this…What you have only two bags?” But whatever. He has to earn money some way. I saved the $10 tip for the driver. Couples Negril was absolutely gorgeous. Everything is pretty close together so it does not require a lot of walking. There are several areas to have something to drink so I never seem to be looking very far for a bartender. I love the drink dispenser on the beach. That was very convenient. They have many containers of fruit infused water set up all over the place to fill your cups. That was very good. Keep in mind, this place does not give you bottle water. You have to buy it from the gift shop and you really have to look for it in there. They will give you Pepsi, 7up, Ginger Ale…. But no bottled water. Very surprising and was quite hard for me to come to terms with since I have always heard to drink bottled water when traveling. But to avoid from becoming dehydrated, I started drinking them. The chairs along the beach fill up pretty quick but you can usually find a couple empty that you can move together. Just keep in mind, all the chairs on the front row facing the beach is a vendor magnet. The vendors will just stand in front of you trying to get you to pay for their service, and if not they wait for someone to walk by to grab their attention. A rule for them is, they cannot leave that beach water strip. They have to get you to come to them so therefore they are always trying to get your attention if they do not recognize you. Not to mention if you are talking to them and you say you don’t like how it looks on your husband, they get snippy. Yeah.. I was not a fan of the vendors. I had to fight my natural urge to respect people by not turning around to talk to them when they are yelling “hello” or “excuse me”. So we just stuck a couple rows back on the beach so we would not be bothered as much. Beach vendors are “Farmer Joe” – you can only guess what he sells, the beach boss – who tries to get you to come to their location just down the beach for tube rides and skiing that you have to pay for and the Hair Braiding Girl. Oh and let’s not forget the vendor on the Jamaican colored boat that patrols the swimming area hollering at people. Not sure what he sells. HAA HAA.. The beach is very nice and clean. No rocks or seaweed to worry about stepping on. The pool bar was the place at this resort. Right by the bar in the water or out. Lots of people hanging out there all the time. The little water fall/slide that comes from the upper pools was very nice and relaxing. If someone at the above pool wanted below, they just put the chair float over the falls and slide down. Soooo fun. Oh and keep in mind “YOU DO NOT WANT A BOB MARLEY SHOT”. YUCK…. Looks pretty but wow is it nasty but it is a nooby drink. Grenadine, crème de mint and white rum. So nasty. Just dump it over your shoulder and say you did it so they quit offering it to you. Breakfast was nice with the omelet station. They make omelets or pretty much any kind of egg you wanted. They also had the flavored pancake of the day from mango to pineapple. Several choices of syrup with fruit floating in it as well. As for the coffee. It is very good but I really like Irish Cream or Rum Cream in my coffee while I am on vacation. The bar does not open until 10am and unless you get a couple shots from the bartender the night before, you can’t have it in the morning. They can even have a bloody mary mix with vodka set up for you to make a drink but nothing for coffee. The only time they offered it was at 8:00 at night when a Blue Mountain person was there. Coffee, a splash of Jamison and some Irish Cream topped with whipped cream. THAT is what I want every morning not night time when I am having drinks and will be going to bed soon. LOL The lunch buffet was abundant so you can pick and choose. Keep in mind, This is Jamaica so do not think their Asian food on the buffet will be good. LOL The fresh made egg rolls were the best on that day. The salads were good but if you like ranch, this ranch is a bit strange tasting because I believe they put mustard in it. Dinner was served in the main dining hall. They sit you at the table and you place your order. Or you can go to the Chinese place (Lychee). That was very good. We ate there twice and had our reservations for Otaheite for our anniversary night. Unfortunately, they could not find our reservations on the night reserved so we had to go eat at Lychee. The Guest relations said that we were on the list for a group setting so they set us up for the next night in a private table and apologized. With that in mind, when you reserve for this place, if it is just two of you make sure they know you want a private table otherwise they automatically put you in a group table. Otaheite was very good food. We had to try the Lion Fish and Scallops… Had to because it is a Lion Fish. It was a tasty too. They cooked it to perfection. Alcoholic Drinks, the Dirty Banana is a fabulous drink if you like bananas. Creamy and delicious. But they cannot make a margarita anywhere at that resort. We have tried. LOL The couples massage was amazing. The natural breezes flowing through the room and hearing the birds outside, very relaxing. I also took advantage of the free snorkeling trip that takes us to the tip of the harbor we were in. The reed was pretty but the ocean was very rocky. It was still great for my first snorkeling. Seen quite a few fish and a whole school of fish.. .hundreds of silver fish were swimming under me. Then a smaller group of dark blue fish swam away. Awesome. We signed up for the Catamaran cruise but with the ocean still very rocky due to the storm at sea, we canceled it. You have to sign up for the Cruise at Guest Relations 24 hours in advance but you can sign up for Snorkeling and I believe scuba lessons at the beach shack at the end of the property. Free wind sailing and kayaking also. The AuNatural side did not seem private enough for me. I have not been brave enough to try it at Couples Ochos Rios which had an awesome AuNatural section…but this one is not closed off enough for me to try it. When all is said and done, I enjoyed my stay here. I will probably not go back only because there are so many other countries I want to see first. But If I come back to Jamaica I will probably pick Couples Ochos Rios over this one due to how much more secluded we were. Oh and the coffee with the cream is very important to me. More>

No complaints- Crystal blue water, great food, sweet staff

This resort is directly on the beach it has less wind and waves than Swept Away so it's easy to use the paddle boats and sails and other water equipment that is included in your stay. The staff is very sweet and attentive. The food is delicious, I normally don't eat anything outside of seafood when I'm at the beach but the steaks, duck, lamb and burgers are delicious. The hummus bar is great and they have flavored waters daily. My favorite was the pineapple ginger water. If you like refreshing alcoholic beverages try the Lycée Martinis. The wifi is slow everywhere except in the wifi room. The fitness classes are amazing, they have lots to choose from, my favorites water aerobics, yoga and full body work out. If you like tennis they have a pro on the grounds Wonderful place can't wait to go back. We were there May 8-15 it rained lightly in the late afternoons just in time to go inside and shower up for dinner. The rain never interfered with beach time in the morning. More>
