Awful experience!
Following a wonderful cruise, we arrived at the Wyndham Grand for 3 nights commencing 20th January. On approaching the hotel main building, it looked like a prison and it only got worse thereafter. The location is far too remote, nothing around it whatsoever so basically you are stranded. All you can do is walk around the hotel grounds or down to the beach which is not very well maintained. You cannot swim in the sea as there are riptides and extremely soft sand. We had a room with a sea view which was very spacious but not cleaned to a very good standard. The safety deposit box didn’t work as it was in error mode. Hotel public areas and glass filthy. On exiting the lift on our floor, one of the windows was shattered. Main dining room, the food was always cold and the same choice throughout our stay. Pool bar, there was granite missing from the counter and the bar was filthy. Seating around the pool was badly stained and also rusty. The Castle View optional dining wasn’t available as it was completely booked throughout our stay. Only one bar area at night which was freezing cold. Dining staff were polite but on occasions, drinks ordered never arrived. This is not a 5 star hotel, it is 2 or 3 at best. Please don’t waste your money coming here, go somewhere else.

Not worth it
Staff was like sloth and did not care about customers. Pool, gym and room was ok but the staff needs education. Seems like an easy fix but all of them need it

Positives & Negatives
Before I write the below review, I read a large number of negative reviews before going on this holiday which made me extremely apprehensive before going. I really hope my review is balanced and offers a good rundown. We travelled as a couple in January 2026. Hotel/Location The hotel when we stayed had less than half occupancy at around 200 rooms being occupied. A number of these rooms appeared to be taken up by air crew staying for a night or two in between flights, or people pre/post cruise ship holidays. It’s a large hotel but due to the occupancy we never had any problems finding beds around the three pools. We were upgraded to a sea view room and the room was one of the best we’ve stayed in, it was large in size with a very comfortable bed. Cleanliness has been commented on several times in reviews. This hotel isn’t unclean, far from it, however they could be better with maintaining cleanliness. I never once saw staff monitoring or cleaning the communal toilets, cups were left by sun beds for hours on end and our room was cleaned to differing standards on a daily basis. The staff we cannot fault, EVERYONE was beyond friendly and happy to help from the minute we arrived. In case you haven’t picked up on this when doing your research this hotel is on the South East coast. It’s beautiful but also extremely windy! You could not swim in the sea. It isn’t far from the airport but is a drive from any tourist spots, to get to Bridgetown it’s around 45 minutes on the bus. The hotel does put on a free shuttle bus that runs to Bridgetown on three separate days, and there’s also a free shuttle bus to Oistins on a Friday evening. Gym - the gym is a good size, it has cardio machines, weight machines and some free weights. Everything you’d need to put a workout together when on holiday. Food The food is nice but very limited in variety. The main restaurant, the Mediterranean Market is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner for a buffet service only. The website says it’s open till 10:30pm yet when there it was only open till 9:30pm. Sam’s Lord Grill is more of a pool bar/restaurant. Perfect for lunch but we felt it was not a place for a nice evening dinner. We felt over dressed, the menu was limited, plastic cups and it had the same feel as the daytime pool bar. Castle View - this is table service and is by booking only. Out of 7 days we only managed to get in twice, not because they were fully booked but because they were at capacity for the staff on shift. This was disappointing as the food was delicious. The bar at the restaurant also had more of a range of drinks on offer. Grab n Go This is a 24/7 fridge stocked with drinks and some basic foods. How well stocked it is, is hit and miss. I raise the grab n go as on one of the evenings the restaurants (definitely one, potentially two) are completely shut and the hotel hold a form of buffet in a different part of the hotel, in a marquee. We arrived back late from an excursion looking for some dinner but couldn’t find any. The buffet put on had been out for a number of hours in the marquee and so we didn’t have any. The grab n go was empty and when we asked if it would be restocked, Reception could not give an answer. Drinks The drinks overall were ok, some of the cocktails were tasty and the rum was flowing. However, I think we lost count of the times that we were told they had run out of certain drinks. From Banks beer, to tonic, Prosecco and juices that made up certain cocktails. In my eyes this should never be the case, these are standard products and we often wondered if they told us they had run out because they didn’t have the staff to go and check at another bar/restaurant for supplies. There was only one bar open for the evenings when we were there, we weren’t aware that the second bar was shut at the time of booking. This is open from 4pm - 1am, well this is what the website suggests but final orders were between midnight and 12:30am most evenings, and when it was coming to the latter part of the evenings they refused to give drinks in glass - I assume as this would create more work in cleaning up. The bar was so quiet, we questioned a lot as to where everyone was then we realised it was because of the occupancy being at half, and that of aircrew. It would have been nice to have a bit more of a buzz with some more upbeat music and vibes. Entertainment We’re used to having an amount of entertainment during the day and into the evening. We were only at the hotel for 3 1/2 days of our stay and so I can only comment about what we saw on those days. Around the pool it was a bit hit and miss, we experienced a pool side quiz on one day but not much else. They provide a weekly timetable on arrival but I didn’t see 90% of what was listed happening. I asked on one of the days if a lot of the timetable wasn’t running as I hadn’t seen the Aquafit on once, they replied saying had I told someone I wanted to do it. I found this odd. It’s a shame as myself and my partner like getting involved in activities. The evening entertainment is ok from what we saw. It’s held in the Live Wire bar which is primarily a small meeting room with a stage and some seats. The bar is a trolley outside manned by a member of staff, the drinks are limited and they will run out. Karaoke was good fun. Advice Get out and explore the island! There’s so much to see, a lot of beautiful places. Bottom Bay is a stunning secluded beach 10 minutes drive away. Book the shuttle bus and Castle View as soon as you arrive. Go to Oistins on a Friday, even if you arrive that day. Oistins Fish fry is onto held once a week on a Friday and it’s great fun which lots of freshly cooked fish and cheap beer. The Cat & Fiddle Catamaran sunset cruise was worth every penny. Do it! We cannot wait to return to Barbados, we loved the place, the people and the vibes. We may not return to Wyndham Grand for the above reasons, and also because we want to explore the Holetown/Speights Town area more.

Fantastic laid back luxury hotel
Beautiful hotel, food was amazing. We had an ocean view rom it was luxury so many little touches from Molton Brown bathing products to nescafe coffee machine. Fantastic pool areas complimentary shuttle services to beaches and bridgetown on a friday evening was a thoughtful touch. Staff were always helpful when needed the only down side to this hotel was sea it was quite rough so you couldn't go in it but that obviously is beyond the hoteliers control.
