Nov 02, 2026Disappointing Customer Service – Not Worth the Price
This was my first time trying a Japanese hotel brand in Honolulu. Unfortunately, the experience did not live up to my expectations. The biggest disappointment was the front desk service. Several staff members came across as cold and unwelcoming, with little warmth, friendliness, or genuine Hawaiian hospitality. Their impatient attitude made me reluctant to approach the front desk for assistance. The guest room was comfortable, and housekeeping did a good job. Having stayed at both the Sheraton and Hyatt in Honolulu, I have experienced much warmer and more welcoming service at those hotels. For the price I paid, I honestly don't think this stay was worth it.

Halepuna Exceeded All Expectations
Halepuna exceeded my expectations. From start to finish I was impressed with the service, ambiance and room comfort. We were celebrating both my birthday and anniversary and booked a Deluxe Ocean View on the 22 floor. Fantastic views, cold AC, deep soaking tub and quiet rooms helped us truly relax. This is definitely the hotel for you if you’re looking for a calm oasis in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Waikiki. This felt like a couples hotel which is what we were looking for. Very few kids the whole week, and they were well behaved. So don’t expect to come here and have a kids pool and splash park handy. This is not a resort but rather a boutique feel hotel. Do your research to plan accordingly if that’s what you are looking for. In saying that, this hotel can work for anyone as long as they understand what they are booking. Great breakfast buffet at House Without a Key at the Halekulani, the sister hotel across the street. I will put this hotel at the top of my list in Hawaii and will be returning when I come back. A 10 out of 10 in every way. It felt upscale, secluded and modern. A big thanks to all the staff for the incredible service and a thank you to Karen for going above and beyond to make our last day memorable. Mahalo!

Super Low Values
Great location and view for a deluxe ocean view room. Missing basic room amenities for the price we paid for. You pay for the view, that’s all. Shampoo, conditioner, shower soup. That’s all you get in the bathroom. Coffee and tea, bathrobe and slippers are what supplied in the bedroom. Nothing more.

Commendation — Riho and Anni at your front desk, evening of Thursday, October 15
I wasn’t even a guest. On a Thursday evening in October my phone died after an event up the street, and I ducked into Halepuna’s lobby looking for somewhere quiet to think. Riho and Anni at the front desk charged it without hesitation, offered to call someone on my behalf, and invited me to wait until I had enough battery to get a ride. I sat there fifteen minutes watching them handle arrivals and questions from actual guests, and they were exactly that good with everyone. Service culture is easy to claim and hard to prove. The proof is how a place treats someone who can’t do anything for it. I’ll be back — as a paying guest next time.
