Excellent Adventure.
Crew was fantastic. Great during snorkeling, kept group together. Saw a ton of fish, a turtle, lobster and stingrays and starfish. El Cielo was amazing. Crystal clear waters with stingrays constantly swimming around. Great service by the entire crew. This was a really fun experience. Definitely recommend.

Love the hotel
Very good and helpful crews, Armando and Edgar did a great job, we enjoyed the free snorkeling trips and all the staff was so helpful and friendly. Love the service and the place and I I’ll definitely come back again. The trips are also included in the hotel’s fare which is so great

Paradise
The Explorean is a relaxing and quiet resort nestled in the jungle bush giving a sense that you are visiting a magical place, this is mine and my husband’s third year returning here. This resort is more laid-back and a nice place to wind down and also have sightings of iguanas outside our room. The Explorean offers daily excursions at no charge which is nice, the past two years we partook in the buggy ride which takes you to the back side of the island and you visit a Tequila Ria and taste different tequilas and also takes you to a white sandy restaurant/bar of which you have full access to for about an hour, you do however have to pay for drinks or food. We also have full access to the sister resort Fiesta Americana which is on the waterfront, this resort is a bit more active and is also where most of the evening entertainment takes place. The first two years we visited, the beachfront/dock were not open you could use the beachfront but there were no cabanas, lounge chairs nor were the restaurants open. We found out a few months before our trip in January that the beachfront was now open with access to cabanas, lounge chairs and a couple small restaurants which we utilized often and it was wonderful! Aaron the beachfront server has taken care of us the past three years and is always on top of refreshing your empty drinks and will also take your food order if you prefer to eat in your cabana instead of sitting at the restaurant. One of the main reasons that has us returning here year after year is the staff, they are extremely attentive and friendly and our second year we returned the minute we stepped on to the resort and they saw us they remembered us by name which is pretty amazing since it had been a year since our first visit and the fact that they have thousands of people passing through that resort in a years time. Plus our first year there my husband is 13 years sober and he wanted a nonalcoholic beer, Arturo the main man that keeps the resorts running smoothly sent a staff member into town to buy some nonalcoholic beer and made sure they were completely stocked the entire time we were there and has continued to do so every year we return! On the beachfront every morning they have a breakfast buffet and at 1:00 they have a lunch buffet but they also have two small restaurants one that servs hamburgers, chili dogs etc. and the other is more seafood based serving things like fish tacos and ceviche etc., they do have a dinner buffet but that is only a few nights a week so on the days they do not have the dinner buffet you can make reservations at one of three restaurants which are Mexican, Italian and Asian or they also have a nice restaurant back at the Explorean resort which you do not need to make reservations there and all are very good! If you contact the hostess Alejandra she can take care of making the reservations for you at any of the restaurants. I also have to give a shout out to the hostess Isabel every year we have returned she, without us reminding her, has remembered our anniversary and my husband's birthday and each year she has a surprise treat brought to our table with happy anniversary written on the plate as well as on another evening has a birthday cake made from my husband. I highly recommend staying at the Explorean although you should know as I mentioned it is a very quite and laid back place and the rooms do not have a TV which is fine with us as we do not go on vacation to watch TV. We will continue to return year after year! If you want a little more activity and access to TV I would suggest staying at the sister resort Fiesta Americana both places are amazing! The Walker’s

The Good and the Bad
I really wanted to give this resort a 4 star hotel for a number of reasons (Tripadvisor should allow for half stars), but couldn't (also for a number of reasons). I'm very fair in how I rate my trips. I understand that not all people can agree on what is important and what is not etc. I like to break it down by pro's and con's and the reader can decided if my pro's and con's are important to them. PRO'S: The resort itself is lovely and lush. The pool has been completely re-done and is beautiful Service is outstanding everywhere! The people are the most friendly, helpful people I've ever experienced at any resort in Mexico. Drink selection is quite good and house wine decent. Rooms are clean (for the most part more on that in Con's) and spacious. Poor lighting in bathroom, very comfortable bed, pillows are a bit of a miss (one too little, two too much). Excursions excellent. We did the boat/snorkling and the bike/cenote one. Guides were outstanding! Plenty of towels, toiletries, water in rooms. CON'S: First con is probably the biggest. We arrived on the Saturday early evening and checked in. On first inspection, the room was lovely. We went out for dinner and drinks and came back around 9:15 to have an early night after a day of travel. When I went to close the white blackout curtains I was horrified to find it covered in black mold. I don't mean just a little bit here and there, but infested. We immediately called the guest services and they sent someone over with a new room key. We waited outside as we didn't want to breathe in this toxic substance. The gentleman who came was lovely. He was properly horrified when he saw it. He said the housekeeping supervisor should have caught that (not just before we came but clearly it's been growing there for months). In any case he moved us to a new room which was fine. The next day we went by front desk to ensure they knew (our breakfast guy still had our old room number when we went in the morning). We explained to them and showed them the video and pictures and while they looked disgusted with it, they offered zero apologies. No one ever apologized or offered us any kind of goodwill gesture. We decided to move on and not let that ruin our trip (and it didn't). Food is mediocre. We had a couple of good meals but inconsistent. One time at the Asian was really good, the next time everything was cold. Italian was not very good at all. Did not try Mexican. The Explorean restaurant on first night was good but, although its supposed to be an a la carte restaurant every other time we tried to go it was buffet and not that great. They deliver coffee/juice/muffins to the room every morning (or they're supposed to) we got it one day, not the next, said something, got it again next day, not the day after etc. Coffee is cold and undrinkable so we enjoyed the juice. When checking in we were directed to a staff member that explains the excursions. In actual fact this is a time share person who pressured us to attend a presentation. When we told him no, he said he'd keep asking all week as he is incented on getting people to attend. He even said that he didn't care that we weren't interested but it would be good for him if we went! We weren't wasting an hour of our precious vacation doing that. We avoided him the rest of trip. We tipped our servers, bartenders, housekeepers quite well throughout the week, upon checkout the person at the front desk asked us for a tip that they would split with staff. Never had that happen before but we just told him that we'd already tipped all week and he accepted that. At the end of the day there is a lot to like about this resort but there are so many small inconsistencies and ways they skimp on things (too little to mention but added up to be a bit annoying). We ended up having a lovely vacation and appreciated the good things about this resort but there is definitely room for improvement and wouldn't take much to bring this to a 4 star quite easily.

A week at the Explorean (and the Fiesta Americana)
Ok, so I've read allot about the Explorean, Fiesta America and Cozumel before we planned our 5 day vaca here. Some of it outdated, some of it true, some of it untrue...here's our experience as an active 50s couple traveling without kids. The rooms: beautiful, large, well laid out and very clean. Also cleaned very well daily. The lighting: not good for putting on make up, bring a little mirror The grounds: lush at the Exp, resorty at the fiesta, but both spotlessly clean and very well kept. Beautiful. The Exp pool: all new gunite. Very nice, kept very clean. The beach: clean, many lounging options, great water access and a great little reef right along short. Not beach walkout, but you won't care. Excellent. The drinks: actually really good. Note: the fiesta has stock liquer, the Exp has top shelf liquer. If you want something straight up, go to the Exp bar. The food: breakfast buffet was pretty stock resort stuff. Good, not great. Lunch at cerviche on the beach was excellent . The bar grille was hit and miss. We didn't do the beach restaurant for lunch. Dinner, not too good!. If you guys just dod a better job with dinners it'd be a 5 star resort. My wifes lasagna was undercooked, my shrimp pasta had TWO pieces of shrimp, the pizza was bland. The meat was often tough or undercooked. If you're coming for the food, you may not be happy. Nightlife: there isn't much by design. The shows are ok but end early. After 9 there's nothing to do (and remember no tv' in the room is at the Exp) Here's a tip for the Fiesta. Your bar can fit 30 bar tools. You have 8 out. People like to congregate and meet other people sometimes. Given them a place to do it. Liven up the bars a little. Bring out more barstools. Give us a destination. Excursions: the only one we did was El Cielo. That alone was worth the trip. The guides were fantastic and fun. The sights were awesome. Do NOT miss this trip. Tip: post somewhere what tours are on what days. Had i known the buggy tour was on a Sunday I would have changed what days I was here. Lastly, the town; we went twice. During the day it was crazy touristy with cruise ship travelers. The vendors were typically annoying. At night, we tried to go grab one dinner downtown. It's dead. And I mean dead dead. Nothing to do. Don't go. And that's it!....the place is fantastic!...just don't expect too much from the dinners....bring a good book. Relax and enjoy your vacation
