Veery disappointing! Be prepared to tip for service you've paid for.

Sadly, this hotel was a huge disappointment. From arriving at Punta Cana, it was poor. We were left waiting at the airport for sn hour for our bus. No real direction either. We booked a Pool View room. The room was nice and spacious, although the view of the pool was dubious. The view of the back of a restaurant was more impressive if you like that, including the smell of cooking meat constantly! The mini bar was full, but virtually all soft drink, with 2 beers. Over the first few nights, our toilet flush handle failed 3 times, and our electric failed 4 times. Each of these times we had to call out maintenance. Onr of these times involved having to get dressed in the middle of the night to go down to the front desk, as they wouldn't answer phone. This was due to overcrowding, which I'll come to later. They eventually fixed the electric issue. It was a big issue, loosing lighting and AC wasn't nice at night. Then there is the issue with the restaurant reservation app. This app cant really cope. Its worse than trying to get a GP appointment. Everyone is scrabbling at 9am on app. When it doesn't work, you end up with a queue of angry guests outside buffet restaurant trying to blag a reservation. Another stress! Then there is the attitude of cleaning staff. So grumpy. Over the week, despite drinking our stingy 2 beers on night 1, we only got one more beer all week, and that was after asking miserable staff. They didn't restock anything after that. This is not all inclusive. Over the week, we realised that you need to bribe staff to get the service you've already paid for. Our North American friends are used to tipping in advance for everything. This is effectively bribing, and has created the culture of only getting a good service if you pay extra. As Brits, we tend to tip after, as reward for good service, not before, as a bribe. The obsession with tipping has probably enabled the hotels to pay their staff less. We booked an all inclusive to stop the need to bring any money, or have anything to pay for. Be prepared to pay extra if you want service. That being said, the majority of staff were very friendly. The buffet restaurant service was awful. On 3 nights out of 5, we failed to get a drink with our meal. We seemed invisible. Probably a result of not bribing at the beginning of week. The same applied to breakfast. Getting a tea is nearly impossible. We resorted to getting a tea from the coffee shop outside, and bringing it in with us! The good wasn't very warm either, even when we went in at opening time. Now the worst aspect. At weekends, this hotel allows a massive influx of locals at discounted price. It appears to fill rooms with extra mattresses to cram extra guests in. On the Friday, the hotel lobby resembled a natural disaster evacuation zone! It was rammed with people and their belongings. Kids running riot. From then on, the hotel was overcrowded, and couldn't cope. Facilities all has queues. I'm not against locals staying, but not when it overloaded hotel, and when they don't understand queuing. It results in tension and stress. We paid alot for this holiday. On Sunday night, peace returned, as the extra guests left. This practice might seem a nice gesture, but ruins the hotel experience. I would've had the same gripe, has it been a plane load of fellow Brits being crammed in on the cheap, overloading the resort. The A La Carte restaurants are just extensions of the buffet. Same slop, just rebounded! We managed to get 3 reservations over the week, albeit at awful times. Firstly we got the Italian at 9.20pm! This was ok to be fair. Quite tasty, and good service. Next was the Mexican. We got this at 5pm! Going out dressed up at 5pm was hot! This meal was ok. Lastly, we got the grill. Sadly, this was a 9.45pm. Ridiculous time! Finally got served our 1st course at 1015pm, 15 mins before it closed. I took my last spoonful of soup, as my main was dumped on the table. I ordered what effectively was a mixed grill. It was literally what they had left. I wouldn't have fed my dog that. We just got up and left. A bit of advice. If booking a daytrip, use the hotel service, not the beach guys. We did both. The trip with the beach guys was awful. What was sold as an hour bus ride to get a boat, took nearly 4 hours on a variety of mini buses. No English speaking guides. We felt abandoned the whole day. The trip with Amstar was far better organised. On the last day, 10 minutes before pick up, my partner had her phone stolen. She thought she has just lost it at first, but when we tried to locate it with a phone app, it has already been turned off. Sad end to holiday. All in all, this has put us off all inclusive, especially the Caribbean. The whole point of all inclusive is to do away with the need to spend anymore money. Sadly, the American over tipping culture has spread here, meaning it's become necessary, if you want good service. I feel uncomfortable having to bribe staff. I'm guessing the majority of reviews on here are from people who bribe, sorry tip lots, and have been rewarded with a better service. Beach is lovely, though sea is like England. If you walk left, for about a mile, the beach and sea is better. The weather was lovely!

    Too Many Issues

I hesitate giving Coco 3 stars. The overall look of the resort outside is great....clean and well maintained. Not the fault of the resort, but the beach was infested with seaweed, as many coastlines have been. It didn't look like any attempt was made to clean up part of the shoreline, or maybe it was too big of an effort to do it properly. Our Room - the door was so jammed that you needed to put a shoulder into it to open, and slam the door to close, something neighbors would not like. We asked for it to be repaired. I stepped away from the pool to watch the maintenance guy. He was using WD40 on the auto door closer, which was not the problem. I pointed out the upper hinge, which was loose, and suggested that he put in a longer screws. He did, and it was a little better. We left it at that. The booking stated that the refrigerator would be fully stocked with soft drinks, juice, beer and water. The refrigerator was broken with 2 warm beer, water, and 2 soft drinks. We asked that it be repaired - and that was done the next day. There was never any juice.  The shower had no cold water pressure....the sink and tub cold water was fine...but no showering. I watched the guy work on it - he began by fixing the hook that holds the hand held. Wrong. Then he looked into replacing the hand held. Wrong. I demonstrate the issue, and left. He later he came down to the pool to say it was fixed. I went up....it wasn't. I requested a new room, which I could not get until after 5pm. By the afternoon, the shower was fixed ... so we agreed to stay. The room was basically clean, but damp and dated. There was no kleenex. The TV channel card on the night table was covered in ketchup. The houekeeping leader came later to deliver items - she had a very "sour" look on her face, like we had somehow inconvenienced them. Anyway, by day 3, all was fine in the room. There are a number of eating choices, but most were usually closed. The main dining buffet room was nice and comfortable. We were there when it 1st opened in the morning, and at dinner. The food was warm at best, but usually cold. Most items were overcooked. If you are fortunate enough to be served coffee, make sure that you have sugar available, and as important, a stir stick. They won't give one unless you ask, which could take a while. The freshly cooked as you wait foods, like pasta and omelettes, were good.  Many resorts allow the local population to use the facilities, which is fine. In our case it was on our last day. But, they were not very well mannered. We were bumped into by kids in the pool, while the parents watched, and said nothing. There were many drinks poolside, which is fine, except that they were left there, or emptied, and/or tossed into the pool. There was no oversight. We wil not return. Maybe there was a staffing shortage. Maybe I was a bit unlucky, but any room in the condition as when we got it, should never be rented out. The issues with the room, did not just happen that day.

It was okay, I will not come back.

Great location. Rooms are old, dingy and rusted... but clean. 1st hotel ever which does not provide body-lotion. Entertainment was amazing. Food was great. Nobody here knows how to make a martini.

SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GO SOMEWHERE ELSE

So let’s start off, I went from 24 Nov-1 Dec 2025. Check In took approximately 45 min, finally got to my room did a quick look, it’s in dire need of Reno’s! Unpacked then took a further look. The room is old, there was a used bar of soap in the shower with hairs 🤮. Patio light wouldn’t shut off, curtains falling down, no toilet paper holder. When I informed the lobby they sent someone to remove the soap and said they will do a deep cleaning the next morning! Well they came in made the bed, changed the towels. That was it. I asked for a box of Kleenex as the Kleenex box was empty and tipped the cleaner. The next day still no Kleenex ( whole week I was there) did not restock any beer ( no beer the whole week). The grounds are clean I will say! Good luck trying to book à la cartes! You have to book through their app, at 9 am when it opens up, which never happens. When you go to see the lady near the buffet, the line up is huge because everyone has the same issue but she insists there’s no problem. But she couldn’t even get on it! Oh and you can only book 1x à la cartes at à time. I’m not a picky eater but they like to over cook everything meat is dry or like eating a rubber band. The best was the Dominican ( but honestly how do you screw up your own culture). Forget about going in the water it’s a slew, not clear and the whole time it was full of seaweed, the sand fleas are tremendously bad. You can’t walk 5 feet without someone pestering you to either sell you something or an excursion. On the weekends the locals flock to the resort, (that’s fine see it everywhere) however they cater to them and not you! The sports bar is smaller than the rooms and when you go there they are packed in like sardines, not my kind of fun! The lobby bar staff were the best thing of the resort ( Jose, Phillipe, Maria and Jusa) probably spelt the names wrong! I’ve been to better resorts in cuba! And I travel 2-3 times à year. This is more like a 2star resort, at its best. And talking to other travellers I met they said the same.

Great People, Great Entertainment — Some Improvements Needed

Our stay at Sunscape Coco Punta Cana had some wonderful moments thanks to several standout team members. The Entertainment crew — especially Golden Boy, Chocolate, Coca Cola, Cielo Bombón, Secreto, Pumba, Capuchino, and Timón — brought amazing energy every day, and the show team delivered high-quality performances that truly elevated our experience. We also want to recognize Yurke at the Sun Club pool, Angel at breakfast, Martin and Ivan at the buffet, and Angelica from housekeeping, who all made us feel welcomed and cared for throughout our stay. There were, however, a few areas that could be improved. Staff often seemed understaffed and overworked, which affected the overall atmosphere. General maintenance also fell short, with a dirty beach, missing pool tiles, and limited shade or space for guests. The dining reservation system was frustrating as well, with same-day bookings only and unclear instructions through the required app. Overall, the people made our stay memorable, but there are opportunities to enhance the overall guest experience.
