Lovely location. Gorgeous beach. Old hotel needs a major refresh to be able to say it’s a 5 star property
We loved staying at Sofitel Moorea over Christmas and had an amazing food experience from wonderful dedicated welcoming staff. Thank you especially to Pedro, the food outlet manager who seemed to be everywhere and made us feel exceptionally welcome. Bravo! You have a gem with Pedro. Madjo one of the bar and restaurant servers was also so kind and attentive. For the price paid — this property was way overpriced considering that it is due to close for an extended refresh. We expected more from a 5 star Sofitel in terms of luxury and small touches. It was really the food service staff who shone and made our stay memorable. The executive chef and his team also truly created a memorable Christmas experience. Beach is gorgeous and secluded. Coral garden is fun to snorkel in and complimentary snorkelling equipment and paddle boards was a bonus. Locally made soaps and body creams were a nice luxury. It’s our third visit to French Polynesia and we will be back. We were spoiled on our first trip to Tahiti by an all inclusive multi island experience with Pearl Hotels and resorts. We will check the final product of the resort refresh before we commit to returning to Sofitel.

Go Elsewhere
Our experience at this beautiful location (with somewhat run down facilities) spoit by poor quality (and overpriced) dining and disinterested staff.

Ok, but not normal Sofitel standards.
Not up to Sofitel standards. I booked an over water bungalow….phone didn’t work, furniture was stained, and everything in the resort is just tired. I’ve heard they are planning a renovation in January 2026…I hope that is the case. My last stay in a Sofitel was so great that I was very disappointed in this one. The service overall is pretty good. The food was fine, nothing stellar. This is a solid 4-star hotel, but definitely not what I paid for it. Only thing that is unbeatable is the view and snorkeling, which is the only reason I’m not completely upset about this location and my vacation here.

Pacific tranquility
Our third time to Sofitel. Last two visits we stayed for two weeks straight. We love it here and Moorea is our favorite. Staff at Sofitel are amazing and so nice and they remembered us from previous trips which made us feel even more welcome. Rooms are comfortable and clean. We come in December so prices are cheaper. Plenty of sun. Snorkeling is incredible and the sea life and coral are healthy and vibrant. From rays to reef shark and turtle to hundreds of colorful fish. Feels like swimming in an aquarium. Rent mopeds on site here and ride the whole island. Champions super market close by to grab snacks. Food at Sofitel is good. We love breakfast and seeing Heintz. Super funny and good at what he does. Lastly, If you’re a runner, great jogging along Route de Ceinture. Thats our take. Beautiful people here and whole island.

Absolutely heartless and uncompassionate people
We had to cancel entire trip due to 2 emergencies - family member urgent cancer surgery + dog in critical care fighting for his life. I asked if we could get full refund, they said no, not without medical certificate. They didn't care about my dog, who is like my cild, and I can get medical certicafe for im now, but they wouldn't allow refund without med certificate for my sis . I understand but t is highly insensitive time to be asking for this when the she is grieving and in shock about the diagnosis, preparing for surgery. I asked if they could instead allow us to use payment as credit to rebook later. They kept repeating "our policy is very strict" over and over again. I also got palmed off from the person I was initially dealing with. They said ok we'll extend by 3 weeks. It felt like a slap in the face, they are essentially saying you have 3 weeks to recover, we don't care. They said they can only extend 3 weeks due to renovations in Jan, so i asked what is stopping them from offering extension after the resort reopens. They said because the accounting must be reconciled at the end of year. We are suffering and potentially going to lose our loved ones and the reason they can't help is because it's too hard for their accounting. Their only job is to say "our policy is very strict" and want a confirm that we will cancel. We had no choice and within seconds the charge came through. For such a big brand resort, they have the smallest of hearts, absolutely no compassion and only care about money. BTW Westin Bora Bora, on the other hand, offered to reschedule for 1 year without asking anything else or putting extra stress on us. The Westin has been incredibly compassionate and kind and I'll never forget it. I'll also NEVER forget the way Sofitel has handled us.
