Great Location and Beach, small crowded pools

The resort is a short trip from the airport which is great. The beach is beautiful. The food was also very good. That being said, I would not go back to this resort. The pools are very small and overly crowded. There’s very little space to walk around and there are no where near enough chairs by the pools/beach for how many guests are there. It was a battle to find somewhere to sit by the pool or beach. The entertainment certainly catered to an older crowd and the music played just weird. I don’t want to hear a saxophone and violin at the pool all day. The entertainment team here was sooooo subpar compared to other secrets resorts we’ve been to in the area. The view from our ocean view room was great. The bathroom was old/run down with no bath tub. The shower would randomly turn to scalding burning hot that was actually painful then swing to freezing cold without warning. We were told not to make dinner reservations, but our first night there was when they were transitioning to this policy. Everyone else had made reservations for the entire week, which made finding somewhere to eat super difficult. We put our name down at three different places and to still took an hour to find somewhere to eat (after 9PM). When we checked in Antonio made us a hibachi reservation, but when we got to the restaurant they told us the reservation wasn’t valid (despite the confirmation on my phone). Some of the staff was excellent. Sylvia at the pool and Jaqueline at the beach were amazing. Ana and Liz at the spa were awesome. Daniel Uribe at the French restaurant was an excellent server. Jorge at the Mexican restaurant was lovely. Multiple times my drink order was forgotten and the service at the breakfast buffet was very slow. We did feel hounded constantly about selling time shares. Even when we said we were not interested. I think the resort had potential, but the small pools with not enough space would make me never want to go back. For the price, there are much better places to stay.

Sky Bar - daytime bartender - April

Truly enjoyed the Sky Bar as a little day time quiet and beauty with great signature cocktails made by April. She was fantastic and everyone in our party enjoyed it so much! I highly recommend!

Management Needs to Get Their Act Together

Pros - Beautiful location with amazing views from our room and most staff are very pleasant. Our room is very pleasant, modern & clean. This place has potential. Cons - Food poisoning. I was VILOLENTLY ill in the bathroom 12 hours straight and sick in bed for another full 24 hours. Phoned the front desk, asked for management, informed them exactly of what I ate and drank that day in a sincere effort to be helpful. Not much, if any, concern for how I was feeling or what they could do. They offered to send a doctor to my room FOR AN EXTRA FEE. I told them I have been in business for more than 40 years and never heard of such a ridiculous response to such a serious customer service issue.....no response to my comment whatsoever from the manager I was speaking with. We are still at the property-for few more days- eating extremely cautiously and constantly listening to other guests sharing very similar stories of getting food poisoning this week. Management NEEDS to get their act together, rectify the clearly deficit food handling issues and learn how to properly address such serious customer experience issues. We have been to other Secret resorts and have had enjoyable experiences. The management team at Secrets Mirabel is destroying your brand.

    Stay Away!

Title: Health Hazards and Total Brand Failure – Avoid Secrets Mirabel Rating: 2 / 5 I have stayed at over 20 Secrets and Dreams properties, and I have never seen a resort fail this badly. Secrets Mirabel is a disgrace to the brand. 1. Medical Distress: I was violently ill for two nights from food poisoning after eating at the buffet and the Asian restaurant. 2. Dangerous for Allergies: As a guest with a seafood allergy who requires Gluten-Free options, I found this resort life-threatening. The buffet/Preferred Club food is UNLABELED. When I asked the Asian restaurant for a plain protein to ensure it was safe, I was flatly told "No." They refused to accommodate basic safety needs. 3. Management & Service: We arrived on a Monday and were told every restaurant was booked until Thursday. The concierge offered zero help other than "order room service." The resort is severely understaffed; we couldn't even get water refills. 4. Room Bait-and-Switch: We paid for a "Garden View" room. Our "view" was a literal concrete wall. 5. Hygiene: Zero hand sanitizing stations on property. This resort is a health hazard. Hyatt needs to intervene immediately. Save your money and go to any other Secrets property besides this one.

Amazing staff, Amazing beach and Great Food! Fun Trip!

We visited this resort 2/3-7 with 3 other couples. This was our 8th trip to Mexico but our first time in the hotel zone. Since we had visited other Secrets properties, we decided for a quick trip to give it a try. We had read about some of the challenges in the FB groups, so we went into it with open minds. Upon arrival we were greeted with the normal welcome home and whisked away to the preferred lounge. We were a little confused at first because we were told to get a drink and someone would grab us...after about 30ish minutes we realized we needed to let them know we were there for check in. The preferred lounge is huge, one of the largest we have ever been to, but there are only two desks for people to check in/out at. With the space available there should be more. We had booked preferred oceanfront terrace rooms. Based on the property maps floating around we knew those were in Building A and no one had stayed in them yet. We were placed in "terrace" rooms that were ground floor by the pool in Building B. We immediately went back to the preferred lounge to let them know these would not work as we booked oceanfront rooms. The feedback from the staff if they were trying to get us in terrace rooms...which we could care less about...we wanted oceanfront. We had to wait for them to find and clean rooms for us. They would not entertain moving us to Junior Suites in Building A. Honestly, we should have challenged this because at the end of the day we were downgraded from what we booked. We ended up in Deluxe Oceanview Rooms in Building A and B but on the upper floors so we had amazing views.... but not what we paid for. At this point we had been in the check in process for several hours just wanted into our rooms after traveling all day. The rooms were not set up with preferred amenities when we finally got into the rooms and over several days of multiple requests of all 4 couples we got everything. The rooms are nice and clean but small compared to other resorts we have been to.... more of a hotel feel. On a side note, on the preferred in rooms snacks...I'm a simple girl give me the chips and candy...not a fan of the nuts. When we arrived the reservation game was still going on but we could not get reservations for our first 3 nights, so we showed up to the restaurants and asked to wait. The worst wait was the 3rd night, which was a Thursday and you could tell the occupancy was creeping up. We did get a reservation for the 4th night but still had to wait about 40 minutes to be seated. As of now reservations has ended which I think is very smart. We only go to resorts like Secrets or Excellence where you do not need reservations and we arrive at dinner knowing we will have to wait and it's not a big deal. First come, First serve...it works. Get on the list and go get a drink while you wait. The other challenge is very obvious there is not enough staff. Each time we were seated, later in the evening, there are plenty of open tables, but they do not have enough wait staff and based on food timing I suspect kitchen staff. This really needs to be the focus in the coming weeks/months is building the staff to handle crowds and they can turnover the dinner time faster. There are plenty of tables and spaces to eat it just needs to move faster. As far as food we ate Blue Water twice, Bordeaux and Himitsu (not Teppanyaki because I am not paying for food when I already paid for all inclusive) Everything was truly delicious, but we also order things we know we are going to like. Our first night at Blue Water was my favorite and Bordeaux was second. I would say Himitsu was my least favorite meal. We were preferred so we had breakfast at Olio each morning...delicious...but again more people needed to move things along faster. We waited each morning for a table. I would book preferred just to be able to have breakfast at Olio. Lunch we did the grill options...burgers, fries, guac...more options needed here like a club or quesadilla. If we had a longer trip this would get really old fast. There is lunch at Olio for everyone, but we are there for the beach and sun...don't want to go sit for a long lunch but to each their own. We are not buffet people so never even went into the restaurant but there are some germs floating around so we def avoided it this trip. Speaking of the germies...we had no issues with the stomach stuff. We took probiotics, before and during. Constant hand washing and hand sanitizer. Sometimes no matter what you do you get it, but we did not. I'm not sure if its food poisoning or noro but noro is bad everywhere right now too. Nevertheless...no issues for us. Entertainment...we had great beach weather so we sat on the beach every day, but we could hear the music coming from the main pool, but we never went up. Waiting for dinner there is tons going on in the lobby before and after dinner. We caught a casino night that was super fun. We went to Desires each night and entertainment varied from bands to DJ. The middle of the week was slower, but it was packed on Friday night which was our last night. We had fun!!! SkyBar - I personally would book preferred to go up here and watch the sunset and have drinks. It is such a vibe...the only thing I would change is the DJ. It's weird to me or maybe tone down the music. It really takes away from the ambience. THE BEACH WAS AMAZING!! We had the prettiest water I have ever seen in Mexico while we were there. No sargassum, it was swimmable, it was just amazing. I will say this the chair game is real. I watched people from my balcony at the crack of dawn reserving chairs...so if you can't beat em you join em right. So, an early riser in our group reserved us chairs each day at the beach and we used ours all day...we aren't those people. But what I did see is if you cannot find a chair ask a concierge and they will help you find and move chairs. The pools are crazy cold, but the weather has also been abnormally cold I think keeping the pools from warming up. We did get in the preferred pool twice to say we did and for the photo op. The hot tub is now warm, we only hit that once, because it was packed most of the time...because the pools are so cold is what I think. The ocean was wonderful though :) Lastly the staff...the staff is everything that makes Secrets Mirabel what it is and what it will be. Every single person we met went out of their way to make our vacation memorable. They are working so hard and they are understaffed so they are working even harder. At check in Antonio was running around trying to get our rooms straightened out. Sergio is a rockstar...he had our bags and just kept running them all over the place. I know he thought we were crazy...mi casa su casa :) April got us yummy shots at the Sky Bar and then I swear we saw her everywhere we went. The bartenders at Blue Water, Himitsu, Rendevoux and Sky Bar while we waited for dinner made delicious drinks and entertained us. They kept the waiting fun!! Dayna and Teresa at Olio served us amazing breakfast and bottomless mimosas. All of the Hostesses at each restaurant were working so hard to get folks seated...and yes some of us were hangry lol. The wait staff is hustling. The waiters on the beach are working soooo hard. All 3 days on the beach we saw only 1-2 waiters covering the whole beach. They kept the drinks flowing and even brought us lunch. We had a great trip...it was 15 min from the airport. It was clean, the food was great, we had fun the whole entire time. In the middle of winter, you cannot ask for nothing less. I don't know that I would return because that is not what we typically do and I love the large spread-out resorts but down the road one day if we ever want a quick trip to Mexico, it would definitely be on my list. The growing pains will end, and this place is going to be great and really it's because of all the people working hard day in and day out.
