    Overwater Bungalow - Honest Review

Royalton Chic Honest Review - Overwater Bungalow Suites - 4 Nights Taking an early AM flight to Charlotte was probably not the greatest idea, but we don’t fault the resort for that. Once we arrived at the airport, using arriveantigua.com made it very easy for customs and immigration (though we learned we also needed it on our return and we had already removed our passes - oops). Travel by Nexus was a bit tricky, as we passed the woman who would have scanned our tickets, but not a huge deal. From landing to arriving to the resort, it probably took a bit less than an hour. Arrived to a very nice diamond club check in experience and our rooms were ready (it was now 4pm-ish). Butler introduced himself and drove us to the security checkpoint before the bungalow rooms - cool idea - annoying to keep giving our room number each time we came and went. Room was great, beds were stiff, so were the pillows. We asked for a bottle of Vodka, never got it, so we asked for rum the next day and got that (bringing it home). First dinner was at the buffet. Pizza, rolls, salads, meats / cheeses, desserts. Not an incredibly large buffet, but food was ok. The waiting staff did not seem properly trained (across the property) to make you feel welcome, at least, in general. A lot of them were quiet and would take your order and leave. 2nd night - Hunter’s Steakhouse was probably our best meal, but not a high bar to jump. Our waitress, again, was decent at best and the food was good in a “meh” way. We got room service for breakfast the next morning, scheduling it from the tv. It arrived on time and was good. One thing we don’t understand is why maids come, turndown comes, but no one takes trays of food / trash. Were we supposed to leave it outside of the room? We were given no instruction and for us, it feels “rude” just to leave our trays outside of our room, so they stayed in there. Vespa Italian was our 3rd night dinner. I got the bolognese, tasted like hamburger helper to be honest. Had wings later at the sports bar which were good though. No one seemed too thrilled with their food, again, just meh at best. 3rd day was the day we asked for floaties (surprised this was not offered to us upon arrival) and basked in the sea, jumping from our room. Awesome experience and changed the perspective on the room (in a good way). Last dinner was buffet again, meh. Tried getting room service later, took 90 minutes for tenders and poppers and again - meh. Overall, the butlers don’t respond quickly on whatsapp, they do not go out of their way to make you feel like you’re getting your moneys worth, and there was a lot of room left to be desired. Food was unimpressive. Food truck was good - got a fantastic burger - that was sadly my best meal of the trip to be honest. Room was great - hard to beat that - just don’t understand why they clean it but don’t take trash away. Beach and water are fantastic, very beautiful property - but also mosquitoes and such. Meh. Overall, I would probably give it a 3.5 out of 5. They have a lot of work to do from a butler/service standpoint. And the food just doesn’t get you excited especially with the lack of options.

Lovely hotel in great location, however!!

Lovely hotel with great facilities and in a fantastic location, the only things that lets the hotel down really is the service and quality of the food, whilst we did sometimes receive good service more often than not we found the service to be very poor, the serving staff at times would completely ignore you and at times were quite rude and miserable. We found this to particularly be the case for the first few days but after a while you do get to know one or two of the better bar staff and the service certainly improved for the second part of our stay, unfortunately the service and food in some of the restaurants remained poor throughout. Such a shame as this hotel has the potential to become one of the best.

    great place

This hotel is very good, the facilities are good, reception is great, location is a bit out of the way, but it is made up for a bit, by the facilities, there is enough to keep you amused, the restaurants are ok, well the ones we tried were, the over water one is very nice, although you have to pay for it, and it is not that cheap by UK standards. It can be difficult to book them on the app, i think that depends on how busy it is. The pools are good, the only thing to remember the main pool has the daily entertainment and can be very noisy, it was a bit to loud at times, made ya ears ring, the evening entertainment was the same, just to much bang banging and shouting. The beach is good, long and plenty of beds and sun shades, water can be hard to enter as there is a large step as you get in, that said it was warm, beach bar is really nice place to spend some time, drinks are real good. Getting out and about is ok, but taxi is expensive we got charged $30 US for a 4 mile trip to St Johns, you have to ask about charge as they sometimes use the local currency, and there is a large difference in cost, so check currency before you get in. There is a desk at the hotel, specifically for taxi's. when all said and done it is a hotel worth visiting. Clean and everything you would need, the rooms are cleaned every day, the only problem we had was the tea coffee milk etc was not done often enough, the drinks in fridge were ok included beer. The coffee and cake shop was wonderful, guy in there was entertaining, we had a great holiday here, made special by the staff, they were fantastic, really friendly and helpful, Would i visit again, probably not, to much noise, and its a lot of money, not to see the entertainment, if your under 55 may be your thing, even older possibly, the island yes definitely will visit again, loved it and the people even out side hotels they were great. They do tend to favor US visitors. That is not the fault of the visitors, we met some lovely people from the US and Canada, we enjoyed there company and hopefully keep in touch.

    12 days in Paradise

We celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary at Royalton Chic Antigua and it was AMAZING! Our butler Chris was awesome; he was very attentive to our needs and questions. The bartenders and waitress at the Diamond Club Pool Bar, Shekida, Marlon, and Ersa made our two-week stay all the more memorable! And we cannot leave out Ms. Jennifer our housekeeper. The day before our departure, everyone came together to help decorate our room as an anniversary surprise and we are appreciative to all for their efforts! As certified water-babies, we loved the fact that our room lead out to the pool area with the beach just a few steps away. Our dining experiences were exquisite, and everyone was friendly and smiling. We definitely plan on returning and will request "our room 6104" again! Lawrence and Charlotta
