Do Not Stay in the Bungalows

Pros: The location is really stunning, the beach is gorgeous, and the restaurant has amazing views. The staff in the restaurant were great as were the beach activities folks. Cons: First, it's important to note that the bungalows are rooms in buildings where there are four rooms on the bottom and two above - the four lower rooms you can walk out of your patio. We stayed in an oceanside bungalow with a walk out patio so we would have easy access to the ocean, and, views. We chose this resort because it is sold as being “quiet,” but our experience was anything but. They have wasted a beautiful location with substandard, cheaply-made accommodations. We paid a steep price for the oceanside bungalow only to hear every single word of the 4 pm beer bong tournament/studio 64 party being thrown in the adjoining room when we checked in. The hotel addressed the noise and the group turned their Bluetooth speaker off for all of 10 minutes before they started a drinking game and turned it back on. (Given the numerous amount of small children running around, it was surprising the hotel had no issues with the explicit hard core rap blaring from their balcony as well.) The hotel was only able to move us to a room with double beds instead of the king we had requested, but we were willing to take anything to get away from what was surely going to end in someone’s stomach getting pumped at 1 AM. Our next room, however, featured a cast of characters stomping around so loudly above us, the lights flickered. And this went on every night, late into the night. (It’s entirely possible that it was a family walking around like normal, but the building quality made them sound like drunken trolls.) Not wanting to be the people that complained about noise twice, we kept telling ourselves that being on the ocean would make it all worth it. I’m here to tell you - it did not. No visual expanse of ocean or the sound of waves crashing can make up for six interrupted nights of sleep, for sleeping in separate beds on what was supposed to be our 10 year wedding anniversary trip, or the thousands of dollars wasted staying in the equivalent of a Super 8 motel room. Do not stay here if you value a peaceful vacation full of relaxation. Do stay here if you’d like to make new friends by joining in the conversations of the strangers staying next to, above, and below you. Because you may as well all be in the same room. On top of all this, the hotel never offered anything to make-up for us losing the room we paid for, and despite promises to look for a king room for us to move to, never contacted us again. If you have to stay here as part of some group/family get-together (which is, frankly, the only situation I could see this property good for), request to stay in an END unit, that way you only have one neighbor’s noise to compete with. It’s a shame because the bungalows have recently been renovated so I don’t see them addressing the popsicle stick walls anytime soon.

    Nice short stay

Front desk staff and valet guys were great, very friendly and attentive. The upstairs bungalow was nice, the bed was comfortable although I think the pillows were a bit too fat. The shower didn’t drain well but I have no doubt that if we had complained they would have addressed it right away. I do think some towel hooks in the bathroom woukd be good. Plenty of chairs by the pool and a nice ambience. Great place to watch the sunset. Good burger at Lahaina noon for happy hour, we didn’t care for the wings they were a bit sweet for us.

    Paradise on the beach

While checking in my experience with Stacey C was amazing, She was very friendly and helped us out a lot. The property is very large and very clean. They also assist you with golf carts to your room carrying your luggage, the room was very large with a kitchen and the beds are really soft and you have plenty of pillows. I do love the beauty of the property right on the beach, access to food and restaurants and a trolley that can take you to the Whalers Village. I would totally come here again.

    A wonderful 5 star stay!

This is a perfect location with the worlds most beautiful beach just footsteps out the back door. A fabulous snorkeling area a few minutes walk. The balconies were beautiful with wonderful views. A very quiet hotel with zero noise from neighbors or hallway. Food was terrific. Music outside at Branches every night was fantastic! This hotel is old Hawaii. So much charm. So easy to get around. Shaded parking, shuttle transportation. Pool was clean and quiet. I would come back every year if I could. The newer hotels require you to walk so far to your room, pool, beach. Royal Lahaina is a perfect size. Highly highly highly recommend.

    Amazing Vacation at Royal Lahaina!

We have nothing but positive things to say about Royal Lahaina! We stayed in one of the tower rooms about 15 years ago and remembered how wonderful the resort was so decided to book one of the ocen front bungalows for our week in May this year. We arrived before the check in time but our bungalow was ready and absolutely perfect. It was clean, newly updated and the beachfront location was so convenient! The roomy lanai was great for morning coffee and afternoon naps. The beach, pools and grounds are all so well kept. The pools, though not heated, were so refreshing after coming in from the ocean. The breakfast buffet was included in our package and we found it to be a fabulous start to the day. There was always a good variety and the service was quick. Lahaina Noon has a daily happy hour and we often went in and enjoyed some drinks and snacks to get out of the sun for a bit. We also did the luau on site and loved it! The food was delicious and our waiter made sure we always had a drink in hand. I would strongly recommend getting a bungalow if you can! I believe the tower rooms are being redone as well but the convenience of walking right out to the ocean and pool can't be beat. Royal Lahaina has a smaller boutique feel to it and you will not be fighting crowds to eat, get loungers by the pool or a great spot on the beach (at least we didn't at this time of year). We can't wait to go back!
