    Nice stay at Riu Vallarta

We enjoyed our stay at Riu Vallarta. We usually go to Riu Palace Pacifico, because we prefer the adults only resort, but it was fully booked for our time in May. We were upgraded to an ocean view room, which had a fantastic view. It was spacious with a very nice bathroom with walk -in shower. Our fridge was well supplied with large bottles of water as well as soda and tonic water. The buffet restaurant always had a wide selection of choices at lunch and dinner. We could always find something we liked. Plenty of fresh fruit as well as salads. They had sliced mango on several days, which was especially delicious. The morning buffet included 2 omelet stations, so I never had a problem getting an omelet with green pepper, spinach, tomato, onion and cheese. You can also get lattes or cappuccinos with breakfast. Our favorite sit down restaurant was the Italian. They had a buffet with salad, bruschetta, and some very yummy breaded and fried eggplant, among other choices. You then can order an entree, and we really liked the steak with gorgonzola sauce. We went to the ‘gourmet’ restaurant Kulinarium one night, and tried the seabass with coconut crust, but it was disappointing in that there was minimal coconut and essentially no crust. It made the fish somewhat bland. The steak there wasn’t as good as the one at the Italian restaurant. We never got to eat at the steak house. I got in line right when they open at 5:30, but by the time I reached the front of the line, they were full and had already given out all the beepers for the waiting list. I read other visitor’s reviews of the steak house and they were mixed. So, we just settled for having steak at the Italian restaurant. We tried the asian restaurant one night and it was terrible. It was all buffet, but the food we tried was lukewarm and subpar. Surprisingly, the white rice and fried rice were both poorly cooked. We left and ate at the buffet. Later in the week I was having dinner at the regular buffet restaurant and tried the chicken curry and white rice, and it was actually quite good, worlds better than what they served at the asian restaurant. We enjoyed the entertainment, especially the rock circus. They had one woman suspended by her hair doing acrobatics and spinning around. I hadn’t seen something like that before. The obligatory Michael Jackson show was quite good. They also had live music nightly, usually from 8-8:30, and then again at 10, after the main show. They have their big ‘white party’ every Friday. We skipped it this time, but people enjoyed it. Drink service by the pool was spotty, but they also had a large bar by the pool area where you could get drinks. We checked out the boogie boards they provide for free and surfed the waves on several days, great fun. We also went to one of the tents on the beach beside the hotel for a massage. $35 for an hour massage. The sound of waves and a nice breeze and an excellent massage. It was great after getting a little banged up by the waves on the boogie board. The weather was perfect in May, not too hot, but the ocean was warm enough. There was always a nice breeze coming off the bay. Special thanks to Ernesto at the front desk. He was very helpful in arranging my transfer back to the airport. (If you book through the Riu website they provided free airport transfers.) They allowed us a late check out , 12 noon instead of 11. Transfer back to the airport was on time and went smoothly. Overall a good visit.

    We Love Riu!

Riu resorts always deliver first class experiences! We only travel to cities that have a Riu all inclusive right on the beach. The Riu Vallarta was just perfect for us. The staff here are the best and cater to you 24/7. The facilities are super clean and comfortable. If we have one critique, it would be that the buffet food was mostly the same each day. That will certainly not ever stop us from staying at Riu resorts. Thank you Riu Vallarta for the epic memories!

    Sit back and relax

There isn’t much bad I can say about this resort. The employees are really nice, the food is good, and the resort itself is really clean. We had a couple concerns about false advertising however. 1. The Riu app says “completed” even tho a request has not been completed, 2. There was no food in the 24 hour snack bar and we were told that there would not be anymore coming, and 3. It was a tiny bit difficult to understand what some of the food was because there were incorrect name plates for them, and in the wrong spots it seemed. These are all minor inconveniences but for having paid $1500 a person, you’d think they’d pay a bit more attention to them. One last thing I’d like to address is the front desk manager who threatened to call the police on us because we were speaking loudly in the hallway, instead of just telling us to be quiet lol that was a little excessive. Overall, great family resort, and if you like tequila in your pool water, great swim up bar with a stellar party vibe. If you’re looking for something quiet, maybe not this one. If you don’t care about quiet during the day, and you love a good crowd, I’d highly recommend this resort. Also bring lots of extra sunscreen and aloe, etc. the shop sells these items for almost triple what you’d get it for off the resort!
