    Fantastic stay

This will be a long review and I will list pros and cons. We stayed here for 2 weeks in November. I previously stayed at the Yucatan 5 years ago so had a comparison. There was none. Playacar is far superior. PROS Hotel - The cleanliness is stunning. Everywhere you go, rooms and social areas are constanty cleaned. I liked the central walkway down to the beach. Nice and wide and bright. The Yucatan can be very dark. Check in was quick and cheery. No problem when we asked to be moved down a floor as there are no lifts. Rooms - Nice and large with plenty of storage. Balcony with coffee table and chairs. 2 sinks in bathroom. Shower gel and shampoo in nice large shower. Optics in bathroom with well stocked fridge, replaced when necessary. Large bed. We were in room 5223 on 2nd floor. It overlooks the walkway. Beach - Lovely beach. Raked each morning so very clean. Plenty of sunbeds on beach. Sunbeds - on arrival there didn't seem a problem at all but on our second week had to get down beore 10 to nab one. Plenty of shade around the pool. Bars - Excellent. They work very hard. Good choice of cocktails. 2 bars in theatre in the evening is handy if it is busy. Lobby bar open 24 hours if wanted. Restaurants - Buffet was excellent, plenty of choice and service good at breakfast and dinner. They don't enforce the long trousers rule for men. Our favourite was the Italian and we weren't too keen on the Asian but liked the Steakhouse and Mexican, which are down by the beah. Lunchtime buffet was also good. Entertainment - the team work very hard during the day and evening. Theatre shows are generally good and sometimes excellent. Didn't expect to enjoy the Mariachi show but was really good. CONS None. Excellent hotel

    Amazing Rui Playacarf

We had the most amazing time at Rui Playacar. Everything was perfect. Great room and food. Fabulous beach and we felt they went above and beyond to make the guests have a great holiday.

    RIU Playacar Nov 2024

First stay at a RIU resort. Likely better than expected. Enjoyed the location, food, services. The ability to visit other RIU properties in the area was great! I don’t drink but there was always non-alcoholic beer available. I found the bed uncomfortable but my wife didn’t have any complaints. Plenty of hot water and pressure for showers. There was a Scuba Caribe on site that allowed for free hobicat ‘rentals’ for experienced sailors. My biggest complaint (which isn’t all that big a deal) was the ice machine in our building broke a couple days into the vacation and they never fixed it. There were usable ice machines available in other buildings that were literally one minute more to walk.

Good overall but there are correctable Issues

This will be a long, thorough honest review of our stay here, keep in mind that We have stayed in over 35 hotels in the Playa del carmen ,Riviera Maya and Cancun area so this is also a comparison review. Unfortunately, our driver from the Cancun airport somehow delivered us to the wrong hotel to another RIU nearby and the RIu made us pay to transfer to the other hotel which was close by whereas they could have just shuttled us there ,not a good move on their part in my opinion, in other words, Riu... train your Management to care for your customers , they just spent hours of stressful travel to get there ,obviously poor management decision, check in was pretty good, however the girl who checked us in completely forgot we were there for our 35th wedding anniversary which she said she was going to send us something special and just absolutely forgot, not a big deal I guess but they shouldn't tell us something and then not carry through with it . Restaurants... Almost always Leftover buffet food served in a different manner , next time I would avoid the restaurants and just go to the buffet which was actually pretty good and you can choose what you want,it also will be more fresh rather than reserved as a leftover, The bartenders at the pool area should be replaced with bartenders who are friendly and don't ignore you, Rafael, Sergio the whole bunch except for the girl that worked there I forget her name, but we would tip them everyday and we never saw anybody else leaving tips and these bartenders, Sergio, Rafael and a few others would completely ignore us and wait on people who were there after we were already standing there every day, and there is no shortage of rude ,mostly Europeans it seemed who will gladly gyp you or allow the bartenders to skip over you even though they know you were waiting first, my wife and I NEVER do that and try to show manners as we don't feel we are above anybody else. It makes me wonder ,does management here even pay attention to what is going on? I think not, just gave me an unwelcome feeling , Room was pretty nice and the people who cleaned your room were very nice also, however ,the A/C left a lot to be desired as we set it at 18 degrees C just to try and get it cooler but despite running 24/7 it never dropped below 23.5??? Should guests who work all year and take a vacation here have to deal with this? Beach area was nice and we never had problem finding chairs,, seen there were a lot of activities and entertainment each night if you are interested in that kind of thing, overall I will look at staying somewhere else next time as there were negatives at this place that disappointed us ,dealing with some indifferent staff but other issues as well ,The waiters in the restaurant were very nice . There are so many hotel options down here why would you return to the same place unless it was over and above what you expect or at least met your expectations? This seems to be not understood by at least half of the places we have stayed down there, but this hotel cost more than 2/3 of the places we have stayed and I would have expected more based on reviews, perhaps many who gave good reviews here haven't stayed in other hotels in the area to compare it with?

    Great Holiday

Enjoyed our stay here. Lovely clean hotel, and grounds, staff was friendly food and drinks were plentiful . Could always find a sun bed. My only complaint was about people leaving left over food lying around the sun beds and not clearing it away 😞
