Fabulous week holiday
This was our 4th visit to this lovely hotel. We always come in February a welcome break in the sun. The hotel is spotless, food is amazing, all cooked fresh and a fabulous choice to cater for every taste. The pool are is always clean with plenty of sun beds. Ideally situated on the walkway for a stroll either to the shopping mall or the beach.

Very happy
Our first time at this Riu but been to Palace in Gran Canaria one a few times. Especially liked the pool layouts at this hotel, not all in lines of chairs, and the fact you could get snacks in the bar by the pools and the one overlooking the sea during the day. Spanish restaurant was awful but the other one was excellent. We were upgraded to full sea view which we didn’t know until we checked out: just thought their side sea views are better 😂😂.

Fantastic hotel. Detailed review with examples of prices
We absolutely loved this Hotel. Everything from the pools, to the rooms, to the food and the service - all exceptional, and exceeded our expectations. The staff make you feel so welcome and taken care of. They are the jewel in the crown of this hotel, so warm and friendly, yet hardworking and professional. From our experience, I can highly recommend staying here. We arrived for one week from 20th December 2024. Check-In: Ioana gave us a warm welcome, explained everything clearly, answered our questions and on request, she took our bookings for the speciality restaurants. Each day when she saw us she remembered us and greeted us warmly, which makes a difference. Requests: I had emailed the hotel in advance, with a couple of questions and to make a room request. The email responses were brief and standard, but on arrival, our room request had been met. Room: We were in the perfect room for us, quiet and with a view of the gardens and a view of the sea in the distance. The bathroom was huge, with a very large shower with excellent power/pressure. Plenty of towels and even robes, how divine! Daily cleaning was offered and was always to a very high standard. Entertainment: If you like hours of entertainment at night, well then, this hotel may not be for you. There was a piano player/singer in the bar from around 7pm. ‘Angel’ is fantastic, we loved when he sang ‘Earth Angel’, what a wonderful entertainer 💖. Then from 9-10.15pm there was usually a band on the main stage, often rock style music. Just okay. We liked when the indoor bar area was used for the band because it gets pretty chilly at night this time of year (Christmas time). Pools and Sea: The pools are heated, so they are not freezing (which is common on the Canary Islands). There were lots of sun loungers available throughout the day so no need to jump up at the crack of dawn or reserve a lounger all day. Buffet: In our experience, the Rui Palace has the best buffet we’ve ever experienced at any hotel. The quality and variety of food is fantastic. There is something for everyone. The buffet also catered for a wide variety of dietary needs, such as low calorie, low sugar, vegetarian, vegan, gluten free and more. Breakfast: We thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast buffet. The quality and variety of food is outstanding. I did however, find it difficult to get just 2 slices of gluten free toast from staff each morning. So I would recommend just saying “gluten free bread” and let the staff bring you their selection (which includes bread, rolls and muffin). I do prefer the system in other hotels - which have a designated gluten free area and a separate toaster where you can help yourself. But this is a first world problem and the Riu selection is fine. So, overall, breakfast is fantastic and the selection is so vast, that there is something to satisfy any taste. Dinner: Again, the buffet is great (Christmas Gala buffet was incredible!) and again the dinner buffet, has something for everyone, the most fussy eater will still be satisfied. I would go as far as saying, it’s the best buffet we’ve experienced in any hotel! There plenty of ‘made to order’ dishes available too. My husband loved the chicken pesto pasta from the Italian section. The chef (Franco) in that section was even happy to prepare me a gluten free version - what I can only describe as the most sensational gluten free pasta I have ever tasted. We’ve been to Rome, Venice, and the Amalfi Coast in Italy but this was on another level! I am craving it now as I write this review. I complemented his dish afterwards and he told me he was Italian - I wasn’t surprised, well done RIU, an authentic Italian chef who can duplicate the delicious textures and tastes of Italy on a gluten free basis, wow! Belisimo! Staff that deserve a special mention include, Pablo, Ana Luisa, and Paco. Desserts: All wonderful. The flambeau fruit is especially divine, and the Stracciatella Mousse was a firm favourite. Speciality Dining: There are two A-la-Carte restaurants, Krystal and Espanol which are both included in half board (but need a booking in advance). I would highly recommend making a reservation at both of these restaurants on your arrival - if you can. You will be glad that you did. Espanol offers Spanish food (as the name suggests). You receive a variety of tasty starters including breads with premium olive oil for dipping, croquettes and a fish and potato dish. All are excellent. Mains options included fish, a vegetarian dish and a special sharing dish (for a minimum of two people) - slices of delicious steak cooked at your table on a hot stone. We went for this option and it was delicious. We really enjoyed the spectacle of the cooking process too. The staff at this restaurant deserve a special mention, as they were fantastic. The service was excellent and they were so much fun. Raul and Fouad were excellent as our servers. This was our first encounter with Ricardo (the Maitre D) - an absolute superstar! In fact, he made our holiday - he seemed to be always on staff, he (and others) work so hard and he is so funny and goes out of his way to make you feel special and so well taken care of. RIU, this man is a credit to you, brilliant, a real gem! I know others will feel likewise. I can only imagine what the hotel would be like if Ricardo was in management - on another level! Anyway, back to Espanol - food delicious and very memorable. I would highly recommend this restaurant! So impressed that it is included in half board too, well done RIU! Krystal was also very good, in terms of food and service (a special mention for Jorge) and we will return there next time too. Snack Bar: The snack bar was just okay. The parmesan fries are literally fries with parmesan sprinkled on them. No gluten free pasta/spaghetti available at lunch and the salad bar was basic. Chicken satay skewers - were dry and the sauce was separate and very mild/bland/cold. We wouldn’t really recommend this bar, but it’s a nice area to get some shade while having a snack or a small bite while overlooking the pool and gardens. Prices at the Hotel (examples) Soft drinks (the size varies significantly depending on where it’s ordered - buffet being the largest and best value) & water €3.50. Cocktails €10-12. Glass of wine €5. Salad bar €11. Areas that could be improved… Some of the ‘thatched’ sun umbrellas on the sandy area need more thatch (protection from the sun rays). Overall, The Riu Palace is an excellent hotel, facilities, food and staff. We can’t wait to say here again.

Winter Break
Lovely hotel right on the beach. Good pools. Very good food with lots of choices. Never any problem getting seats at mealtimes. Only gripe is people reserving sunloungers before 8am making it difficult to get one later in the day.
