lovely beach resort
Stayed here for 5 nights and had a great time, Staff were always friendly and attentive, big shout out to Alejandro, Abediel and m in the man buffet area at breakfast and lunch who took such good care of us Rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. With 5 pools and a lovey large beach area to chose from there was never an issue getting a sun lounger The restaurants do get busy and with no reservations allowed it can get a bit frustrating as they are to book out early, especially the steak one, still the buffet was always a good alternative with good options The property is well maintained and has nice gardens Would definitely come back here again

Great hotel but Renova Spa is a low point.
We have been to several RIU hotels in the Cancun area and this is our favorite. All RIU hotels give a 10% discount as a rewards member and an extra 10% discount with a AAA card. That’s 20% off the regular price. The AAA card pays for itself with one stay. RIU runs specials periodically so book early and then keep checking to see if the rate drops. We do not use the RIU free transfer because we typically have to wait an hour or longer at airport and then the stop at several resorts. One time it took almost 3 hours to get to hotel. Just book a shuttle beforehand you’ll be glad you did it. Check in was smooth but if you arrive at the wrong time it can take awhile. They charge the room on a separate bill and the Mexican taxes on a separate charge. Download the RIU app it has all the information. Under the resort credits you can use “Costamurc” code. If you stay at Palace Costa Mujeres you can use the facility at RIU Dunumar. We went there for the water slides (very fun), kiddie pool (extensive) and nightly shows. The shows are different each night and you have options to attend two different shows each night at the two hotels. Shows Circus Show 4.5 stars Michael Jackson 3 stars Comedy Show 3 stars Mariachi 4.5 stars ABBA 3 stars There is a kids show each night at 730 PM. Cocktail lounge has a signature drink each night. They also have piano music or saxophone player each evening. Service can sometimes be slow. On the RIU app you can view the selection of alcohol. Be sure to ask for the liquor of your preference because they will use the low tier alcohol for drinks. The coffee shop serves a variety of coffee and tea drinks. The sandwiches are not good, but the desserts are excellent. They also have shakes. The buffet is very good with tons of options. The wait staff are excellent, very responsive and professional. We find that the restaurants have limited options and some are hit and miss. The wait times can be long and we ended up going to buffet most nights. There is a grill by the pool that serves hotdogs, hamburgers, ribs and nachos. They offer a romantic dinner on the beach for $240, but they only offer on limited days and slots fill up fast. There is a gift shop with swim gear, clothing, candies, medications and other essentials. Everything was very expensive so bring your own medicine, swim gear and other essentials. The beach is nice, plenty of chairs and waves are calm. It was very clean. Service can be very slow. There are several pools. There are plenty of chairs, we never had to look long for a chair. Service around the pool is very good. Main negative The staff at Renova Spa (Miriam and Fabiola) were rude and unprofessional and this negatively impacted our overall experience.

Terrible, very disappointed
Extremely poor food quality and almost no variety. We’ve stayed at multiple Riu resorts, and this one is an absolute embarrassment compared to the rest. The food is repetitive, bland, and nowhere near the standard Riu claims to offer. Half the staff doesn’t speak English, so even basic communication turns into pointless back-and-forth. And the worst part: the towel boy took our towels and never gave us new ones or cards. When we asked about it, his manager came over, acted aggressively, and even cursed in front of our kids. Completely unprofessional and unacceptable behavior from someone representing the resort. After this experience, we’re never coming back to any Riu again. Not worth the money, the stress, or the disappointment.

One of the best
Fantastic from start to finish! We are both extremely well travelled and would put this in the top 3 hotels I have stayed at. Me and my partner originally had another hotel booked but this closed due to renovations and it was a blessing in disguise as we could not of hoped for a better experience. The food for an all-inclusive was outstanding with different live cooking station options each night at the buffet - now usually buffet food is lukewarm and not attended to, however the food here was regularly replenished and always hot still. The À la carte restaurants were always popular, we only tried the steakhouse (our favourite) and the Mexican but the Italian and Japanese were busy every night also. Pepes for lunch by the pool was very good each day with multiple options which changed. The pools were the biggest surprise to us - we are used to having to get up early for sunbeds but not here… you could easily get a sunbed at 11 clock still if you wished which was fantastic! Drinks were frequently offered by pool staff, entertainment team came around usually about 2/3pm. Rooms were spectacularly clean as were all areas of the hotel. We had a partial sea view which being in floor 4 gave us an entire sea view once out on the balcony. Staff were exceptional and always on hand to help with anything, they were EXTREMELY hard working beyond the normal levels you see at hotels and helped create a fantastic environment within the resort. The beach is just steps from the hotel and is beautiful, kept extremely clean and you can still get drinks served. They have kayaks included without additional cost but you can also pay for additional watersports such as jet ski’s etc Special shoutout to Adrian in guest services who helped me arrange a beautiful proposal on the beach for my now fiancée. Jorgè and Nico around the pool who were ever present with drinks. We will definitely return here again.
