This was our first time to a Riu hotel and I will say I was very impressed. The hotel was beautiful. I love the open spaces and the attention to detail in every area. The bar area was great, the views the vibe, everything. The other thing I was very impressed with was the attentive staff. Everyone was super friendly and made us feel very welcomed. The entertainment was fun and we truly enjoyed our time there. The other thing I was enjoyed was the photo staff. Doing random photos at the pool led us to doing a mini photo shoot at the beach and I am so happy we did it. Capturing those memories was amazing and not something we would have done normally.

I will premise this review by saying in general the resort was decent. Rooms are in need of some love but to be expected in an older resort. Food was decent. My biggest problem was the the fact that this resort was over run with spring breakers. The RIU policy says specifically that it does not allow spring breakers. Very untrue. I would say approximately 70% were and they were obnoxious and drunk and rude. Spoke to the resort customer service and they basically said too bad. You could not even get into the adult pool or the bar associated with it. If RIU is not going to honor their own policy take it off the website. We would have chosen differently if we had known. We were not the only one complaining but to no avail. Also there was a very aggressive employee who kept removing our towels from our chairs. We went to get a coffee and come back and they were gone. When we asked why, they said it was a policy to not reserve chairs. Well it is also a policy that you do not allow spring breakers. I would like an answer from management about that.

Beautiful Property
My husband and I stayed for a week at the Riu. The location on the beach was beautiful. It was a about 30-40 minute walk on the beach to the marina or a 10 minute cab ride into town. We were upgraded to a honeymoon ocean view suite which was nice. There were a few items that needed repair in the suite and the jets in the balcony tub did not work, otherwise it was good. While we liked the friendliness of the staff and the selection of the food we found the food just average. There are two other Riu properties next door that we visited but didn't eat at. I probably would recommend the Palace over the other two properties for it's size and food selections. We visited the first week in March and the temps and sun were nice, the wind is very cool. Pack warm for the nights as the entertainment is i an open venue. I was cold even with the outdoor heaters. The entertainment was okay but nothing to talk about. It was also the beginning of spring break and the Riu Santa Fe next door was crowded & loud in the pool which was just down from our balcony. As for the Riu Palace there was plenty of pool space available just not great service if you're IN the pool. Hard to tip when you're actually in the water and if you don't tip the service doesn't seem to come back to you. For food we really liked the tacos and wings at the pool side eatery at night. The steak house was good, the other just okay.
