Riu is a great brand/hotel. Great food, staff, grounds. Good selection of Ala Carter, was not overly busy at 6pm It's just all the smoking. People smoking cigars in the pool. I much prefer the Rius' with designated smoking areas. (Panama, Jamaica) Casino on the neibouring property

A shout out to Johan and Alexis for making check in easy. I really wanted give this resort a good review, but unfortunately I can't. The buffet definitely serves day old food, and drinks are very watered down. The lobster tail from the steakhouse smells like amonia. A lot of ppl I spoke with had an upset stomach. The cleaning staff didn't come to clean until I complained to front desk. The water stopped working all of a sudden. The staff is extremely lacking in English. They try their best. The rooms are beautifuly renovated. The Capuchino shop is amazing, great coffee, great sandwiches, great desserts. The beach is gorgeous.

Excellent stay! Except one thing. It was our Wedding Anniversary trip. I was told that they have something special for couples. Our room wasn't even decorated for our Wedding Anniversary at all. It was kind of disappointing.

What we expected
Overall my wife and I had a very nice stay with our 3 year old. The food was actually much better than we were expecting with a ton of great seafood and veggie options. The hotel itself is in great condition and our room was very nice. Everything was clean, including common areas. There were a lot of pools and our kid had a great time at the kids pools. The only thing that prevented me from giving 5 stars is that the overall service level was slow. I tried calling and emailing the hotel for airport transfer and I got no response after multiple attempts. I ended up finding a third party for the airport transfer. Also, the maid forgot to replace our towels one day. Not a big deal, but then it took 4 phone calls to reception and 5 hours of waiting for someone to finally come deliver us towels. Again, overall a good stay and we like Riu, so we would stay again. However, don't expect 5 star service if you go.

Everything is beautiful and renovated but only thing the beach chairs are very old and a few have black mold stains.
Only the beach chairs need to be replaced to be able to use a clean one, alot of them were black and moldy that look alittle disgusting
