    Amazing

    Food was excellent, staff was amazing. We had a wonderful time. If you can’t enjoy yourself here, it’s on you, not the place, food or people! Also, saw some great sea life ❤️ Booked a glass bottom boat trip with Captain Brown, Milton and Martin. Had the BEST day snorkeling and site seeing. Went to a cave, Ricks Cafe and Margaritaville. We had a blast!

    Horrible! Horrible! Horrible !

    I spent my thirtieth birthday at Riu negril and I am beyond disappointed my spouse made sure to place on our booking way in advance that it was my birthday celebration she even went through the trouble of calling to make sure they were aware of it and when we arrived check in was a hassle. The young lady at the front desk gave us attitude and when my spouse mentioned that it was my birthday all she said was “mi see” our room wasn’t ready we asked where we could get something to eat and a young man at the same front desk referred us to the buffet. After eating we spent about an hour sitting and looking around the bar staff was noisy talking to each other and seem to skip over us without asking if we needed anything I had to shout orders like I was at a common bar. Despite being an all inclusive a lot of things seems to come at a price if you wanted to indulge. While waiting on our room as it was not ready we decided to play some billiards and to our surprise we had to pay to play pool we are both travel agents and we have referred and sent many guests to Riu negril and to know that this is what they went through well this resort will no longer get any recognition and recommendations from us. We were told that a third party owns the pool tables when I calmed down about paying to play billiards and went there again because we needed something to do to pass the time we were ONCE AGAIN TOLD THAT LOCAL CURRENCY ISNT ACCEPTED TO PLAY BILLIARDS IT HAS TO BE IN USD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. What kind of resort doesn’t cater for locals !!!!! We had to scurry around and beg for usd just to pass the time and it gets worst when looking for something to eat we had to seat ourselves and a lot of time we were skipped especially when having breakfast one morning it was after we ate that someone came to offer us water long after. To top it off to do some simple water sports activity such as paddle boating we were told by water sports that it’s $75usd !!!! We brushed it off determined not to make it ruin our trip we wanted to play volley ball there was a team already playing so we were waiting on our turn a entertainment staff showed up without acknowledging us again and then another set of friends showed up and he stared talking to them and started putting a team together it was when my spouse brought it to my attention that he’s skipping over us I told him that we are here to play and wanted to go on next as well .as stated before we have sent thousands of guests to Riu local and international and we will be doing so no more I even started to compare holiday inn to Riu as the service is so poor holiday inn made Riu negril looked like a baby camp we’ve been to sandals iberostar moon palace and many other resorts local and international and this is the first time we were treated like this it felt like we begged to get on property. All in all if it wasn’t for my spouses optimism and her not wanting me to ruin my birthday trip I would have left the resort on the first day. Our housekeeper was amazing and the gentleman that help us at the front desk when checking in otherwise it was a horrible stay

    Delicious food and good snorkeling spot

    We stayed here for a week in April and it was a very nice resort. Only complaints were the toilet wouldn’t flush sometimes and the bed/pillows were stiff and hard. The food and drinks were delicious and the beach is nice. The snorkeling was amazing. There are people walking along the beach trying to sell stuff and people selling marijuana on the beach as well/ people smoking it everywhere. We did not go off resort and driving to Negril from Montego Bay on the shuddle was sad because people live in shacks and there were a lot of abandoned looking homes and vehicles.

    Poor Experience with Riu Negril, especially with ScubaCaribe

    We booked an activity with Scuba Caribe at Riu Negril. The activity wasn’t confirmed but we were asked to pay the activity fee, which we did with the understanding that it would be cancelled or refunded if the activity didn’t go through. The activity didn’t happen because there wasn’t enough people. More than three weeks after paying, we still have not received our money back, despite several communications to the resort and ScubaCaribe.. If we could do it again, we wouldn’t have gone to Riu Negril and we definitely wouldn’t have trusted ScubaCaribe, no matter what they said. We have been to many resorts, and we thought the Riu Negril compared poorly. The staff were not helpful and made us feel like we had to beg for things. They fogged for mosquitoes every evening around 6pm all around the swimming pools. There was the smell of ganga all over the resort. Overall, we did not have much fun and will not be returning.

    A major disappointment

    To be honest there were some positive points about this resort, however there was an extremely disappointing incident which somewhat ruined the whole trip so I'm giving it 1 out of 5 as I will NEVER go back here again. First with the positive points: - Overall the resort is reasonably clean. The beach, the room, the restaurants, the bars, the pools, the resort grounds, are being cleaned very often - Plenty of available chairs along the beach as well as at all the pools at all times. - The food was overall decent, some good points and bad points, not as great as I anticipated from reading previous reviews, but having sufficient options of food to satisfy most people. Jerk chicken from the Jerk Hut was excellent. - The room was reasonably spacious and comfortable. - Great friendly services from some staff (but also received horrible servers from some others, see below) Some not so good points: - Even though there was no shortage of chairs on the beach but there were very limited shades (no umbrella or cabana on the beach) from trees which are usually crowded. There are however plenty of umbrellas for the pools, unfortunately we wanted to go there for the beach, not the pool. - The resort looked outdated with some cracked floor tiles, old beach lounge chairs (that look dirty even though they might not be), old towels that are fairly worn out, some looked like old rags. - Specialty restaurants were not that good, Kulinarium was mediocre (tough, chewy steak), the Seagull steakhouse food was getting cold by the time we got served. And now the big disappointment. One night in the middle of our week we went to the Mandalay restaurant for dinner, when we got a table we waited, and waited... and waited... and we watched the waitress in our section greeted other people who came before us, as well as those who sat down after us, but she never went to our table, I eventually had to call her over after she served the table behind me, she asked bluntly "You want water?" I told her that we also would like some red wine for my wife and I. It was very different how she served us vs. how she served other people with "Hi, how are you? would you like some wine? etc.." About 45 minutes later while we were eating dinner, our wine glasses were empty long ago by this point and so were our water glasses, we've observed the 2 waitresses who were serving around our section, they were refilling both wine and water at ALL OTHER TABLES around us, but somehow both of them always had their back to our table as they walked through our section and they both "coincidentally" never saw our table throughout the evening, as if we didn't exist. At that point we were getting quite upset because we noticed that we were the only oriental customers there, all others were either white or african americans. As we stood up to leave, a waiter (from another section) came over and asked us "how was everything?" so we told him how we were ignored throughout the evening. He apologized but we explained to him that it wasn't his fault, we were very upset about the obvious racist behaviors from the 2 waitresses in our section, we wanted to point them out but they seemed to disappear at that point. The next day, we received a call from someone at the front desk, she said that she heard we weren't happy at the dinner last night so she can offer to book reservation at another specialty restaurant but we told her that we were planning to go to the buffet for the rest of the week, she didn't say anything else. It was disappointing that she did not ask for details of what happened, and there was no apology on behalf of the resort, etc. I was going to ask them to review the recordings from the restaurant and see for themselves, but they didn't seem to care to ask about the "incident", it seemed to me like they just wanted to sweep it under the rug. This is not the appropriate way of handling complaint in any hotel or resort, definitely not a 5* hotel service level. There were several other minor incidents where we found we were the last to be noticed and get served, but we just ignored them so we can somewhat enjoy our vacation, but the restaurant incident was just not acceptable at all. So in conclusion, my advice is do NOT go to this resort unless you're white or african americans. Other races are probably not welcome here, especially of Asian descent.
