    Riu Guanacaste Costa Rica 🇨🇷

I have to say that reading some of the reviews before arriving at the Riu Guanacaste, I was worrying that my partner's 50th birthday would be ruined. Not the case at all. All the staff are extremely friendly and helpful and there is great variety in the buffet to find something to eat. Drinks a bit weak but they are measures, just ask the bar staff to make it 'grande' and you'll get what you want. The beach and surrounding area are beautiful and this is now my new favourite place in the world, having now knocked Mexico off top spot. I would highly recommend this place, yes rooms maybe aren't perfect but how much time would you be in there anyway. My only gripe is constantly being logged out of the WiFi but that's hardly a reason to give a bad review!

    Nice enough but not great

We are from the UK and stayed here in April for 2 weeks. We flew with TUI and the rep at the hotel was absolutely useless, she is only interested in helping you if you want to buy an excursion. I wasted a lot of time on holiday trying to sort out return flight seats and was advised via TUI online chat to ask the rep to call them to resolve our issue but when we asked her she said she couldn't, so apparently she can't speak to her colleagues! I also asked her about how to get the public bus to visit Coco beach and she laughed at me! The hotel itself is nice although it is starting to look a little dated. There is also a distinct lack of toilets with none in any of the restaurants except the steak house which is actually the pool toilets. The sports bar is the only bar with air conditioning and is quite grubby with only 1 pool table which for the size of the hotel isn't enough given the lack of entertainment here. The entertainment here is the worst I have ever seen, apart from 1 night when they had a Queen tribute band it was literally just the entertainment team dancing and miming on the other evenings. Although they do have the Riu party on a Friday night which is good fun although slightly dated (think 90s Ibiza). The food here is ok, in my opinion there is too much offered and not to a great standard, would be better to do less but better quality. The fact that you can't make a reservation for dinner is really poor and definitely not what you expect from a 5 star hotel. You have to que from about 5.30 to get in and they won't give you a buzzer to return at a later time until the restaurant is full. We wasted a lot of time with this while we were away which is a real shame. The house keeping in our room wasnt great and we had to ask at reception for toilet rolls and one day our room wasnt cleaned/fresh towels at all and had to wait for an hour for them to sort it out. My husband was monitoring some dirt on the floor for the whole 2 weeks and it was never cleaned so they don't seem to sweep or mop the floor! The hotel is definitely geared towards Americans with a strong tipping culture. I found it quite off putting to see members of staff stood counting their tips instead of serving you. Also have tip pots on display at the buffet restaurant, I wanted an omelette for breakfast but the guy making them had a mountain of tips strewn across the counter which made me feel like unless I left a tip I couldn't have it, so I never did which is a shame considering I paid a lot of money for all inclusive. The drinks offer is good and I particularly liked the mango margarita. You could always get a sun bed by the pool without reserving. Check in was good and the reception team were always helpful. The waterpark is a nice addition although small.

    Family Vacation

I stayed at the RIU Guanacaste for a family vacation. Two members of my group upgraded to a suite. The suite was large and nice. There was an issue with the air conditioning unit in the suite and they were quickly moved to a different room. Overall, the food and drinks were exactly what you expect when going to an all inclusive resort. We had a great time and enjoyed spending our days in the pool and ocean.

    We ❤️ RIU Guanacaste!

This was our second stay at the resort. The hotel is very clean. They have a very large staff and they seem happy to be there. Service was outstanding! Jesus at the front desk is fabulous!! The staff at scuba caribe are also very attentive and accommodating. Thanks to Lisa, Ronald, and Alan for taking great care of our diving needs. Food at the Buffett is good. We are at all 4 al a crate restaurants and they were all very good. We will definitely be back! You cannot beat the value for the money!

Don’t waste your money Worst experience ever- staff doesn’t care, food is some of worst I have eaten- all buffets; rooms are dated to the point of they look like a horror movie. Beds and pillows barely have filling. Towels falling apart Flight canceled and put here for the night- figured how bad could it be? Well I found out.
