Jan 18, 2026Good solo experience. RIU EB first time guest.
Stayed Dec 12-19 solo. Superior room facing the drive and spa. The room was clean and modern. Only issue was the pillows as they were uncomfortable made with torn up big chunks of foam. I asked for alternatives and did receive them but it was just more of the same. In order to exit the front of the resort, you had to exit room, travel down to second floor, walk through two hallways and head to the front desk. From rooms in the 3390s, it was about a 5 minutes jaunt. If you were exiting towards the pools and Malecon buffet, the walk was less. The a la cartes were all quite disappointing; Italian mains were rushed and unappealing. The Japanese was the only satisfactory experience but it was completely buffet style with no made-to-order options. Regular buffets were good, didn’t offer much variety day to day. The reservation system was not 100% reliable, even after having received confirmations of reservations. Twice, my reservation was not listed as we arrived but they allowed me and a friend to dine anyways. Could book the whirlpool (jacuzzi)/steam room for an hour each day. I think they turn the heat pump off over night as if you go too early in the morning, the water is cool. The steam room was not operational at the time of my stay. Think it’s been that way for a while. Servers and bar staff were all very good; take care of them and they’ll take care of you. Phone had no placard with information on how to reach front desk, spa, housekeeping, etc. At 1:30 am, a drunken young local man began knocking and pounding on my door randomly. He would not listen to me telling him it wasn’t his room, didn’t speak and just kept hammering his fist on my door and trying to push it open. I tried reporting through the app that this was happening and did not receive a reply. The man eventually left and I didn’t hear from any staff or security that night. At the front desk in the morning, I asked about the situation and they said that they responded to the complaint from a few guests and that the man was removed from the resort and told to not come back. Don’t know if it was a registered guest or just some random but it was a bit unnerving. Sunwing/Nexus disappointing with the transfers and providing information. Overall experience was good and the resort and staff were satisfactory.

Excellent resort! Clean facilities, all washrooms were exceptionally clean. Rooms cleaned daily, fresh towels and linens. Well stocked mini bar great service. All restaurants and buffets had variety of choices for food and beverage. Would recommend staying at this resort.

Excellent Stay!
We had an amazing stay at Riu Emerald Bay and overall it exceeded our expectations. The food was excellent with tons of variety, and as a family with a celiac child, we were especially impressed with how well gluten-free needs were handled. When we checked in, we were given a sheet to show the chefs, which made everything so much easier and stress-free. A special shout-out to Jonathon, one of the chefs, who went above and beyond for our son—checking in repeatedly, explaining options, and truly making him feel cared for. He honestly made our son’s stay. The activities and entertainment were fantastic—there was always something going on, and the staff brought great energy every day. We never felt bored. Our only small complaints would be that our 16-year-old son was not allowed in the gym, even when accompanied by his dad. He loves working out and it would be great if minors could use the gym when supervised by an adult. We’d also love to see more pool tables added, as they were always busy. Overall, this resort was wonderful and we made memories we’ll never forget. We would absolutely recommend Riu Emerald Bay and would happily return.

Pools, beach, service were all good. Buffet and a la cartes were about a 3 on a scale of 10. If you like liquid mashed potatoes, weiner pizza, tough stringy over cooked bacon, and corn on the cob you wouldn't feed to a cow...then this place is for you. The acoustics and sound in the theatre were horrible and the shows were only slightly better than what you would find at a 2 star Mexican resort. This place needs to 'do better'.

Amazing vacation
Had an amazing time at the resort. Service was above and beyond . View was great . Food was so good . Great options. Great drink choices. Clean beach . Foam party was so fun. We are coming back definitely every year and told all our friends and family about this place
